[Q] Screen capture? - HTC Sensation

Hi guys,
I've been looking but couldn't find an easy answer. Is there a way to screen capture on the Sensation?
Thanks in advance!!!

I got this from the Incredible S forums:
1.Download Android SDK (zip one)
2.Download and Install Java JDK 6
3.Connect phone to PC in debugging mode
4.Where you have extracted Android SDK, go to the tools folder and open ddms.bat
5.Click on the device tab and click screen capture.
6.Capture and save

Any way to do it WITHOUT using a PC?

Yes this is what I wanted to know. Isn't there a way to just do a capture and have it saved to your phone without a computer?

Here you go

nothing come for free!!

not without root if you don't want to be tethered to a pc

u could try this paid one.. maybe it works.. and if it doesnt.. u can always uninstall and claim refund (i think within a certian time frame)

So I go to the HTC Sensation support page and I see that under mechanical I see this issue (sorry I tried to post a link but I guess I'm too new for the forum to let me...something about avoiding spam...).
The second question is my question, is it not? But I can't seem to make is work. Anybody else try this?
*EDIT*
I went to the HTC website's forums and they said that this was some sort of misinformation. This feature currently does not exist even though it came from HTC themselves! Someone did state, though, that there is supposed to be an update soon that MIGHT have this feature...not sure if that also includes unlocking the boot loader!

it may interest all you vox owners (like myself), that I have looked thru the coding of that cab and have been coding all the nessesary bits for it to work on our phones. I'm still working on the cpr file (the one that positions everything), and then I will cab it all up. im still trying to contact the developer to see if he knows whys its not installing thou (and to make sure its okay to poke around in his file!)
EDIT>>
I've just noticed the developer has changed his use of the TestUIPlugin slide for the use of the welcome screen slide, due to reliability and positioning, BUT I personally use the welcome slide for shortcuts, and have had no issues with the testuiplugin slide, plus I notice the welcome screen cannot refresh like the testui one can, so i'm sticking with it. If anyone is interested in my cpr file, or others, I can post them.
Kos letme know when your cab is ready...
thank you
So.. is it possible to install the weather plugin on the Vox? Please post the cpr file or whatever is needed to install it.
If you go the original thread in the Excalibur forum, you can download the cab there and install it on your Vox. It uses the WelcomeCenter plugin which is already properly formatted for the Vox as well. Go download it and try it
I tried every version posted in the Excalibur thread and it doesn't install. It says i don't have sufficient permissions. Rebooted, tried again and still nothing...
EDIT: Found the original version and it still does not install...

The solution I found to make it work is to install everything manually including the creation of the registry keys... :| :S ....but it works now ;P
Well, now I have an issue: everytime the weather updates, my start menu dies...it just stops working...
You guys should try unlocking your device with the SDA Unlocker app that's floating around. That will most definitely do the trick.

I already said that didn't work as the other user also said...I had to install everything contained in your cab files manually to make it work...

Install APK installer without market

Is there a way to install Astro File manager without using the market? Because if I would need to install APKs in a situation where I don't have access to the market (No Internet access, etc.) I would need to use Astro File Manager and if I didn't have it installed I would need a way to install it without using the standard way of using the market...
Plus, it would save me bandwidth to install it from the SD Card each time...
To answer this topic quickly. There is no way to install a apk without an apk installer. Be it astro or any other app. There just aint
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
So then you have to get one from the Market? So if you cannot use the market (don't have a connection) you can't install it?
Damn, the next release should include and APK installed because I am sure most people use APKs. If not, then why would they be using Android.
PS, wow no real reply until the second page... (Edit:kekkle's post and this post were on the second page after nobnut filled the first page with troll posts, since then they were deleted so now it's on the first page)
PS2: 100th post
Seriously now...
There is a manual way you can install apks without an apk installer...
Download the apk onto your desktop/laptop. Remove the back panel from your desktop/laptop using a hammer (a claw hammer is best but you can use a pin hammer if you have no claw hammer).
Remove the battery cover from your device (your Android phone not your vibrating butt plug).
Using the tweezers you normally use to masturbate. Find the downloaded apk and carefully place it underneath the battery. Reinsert the battery and battery cover.
Before you restart the device, firmly knock the device against a hard surface like the wall or a hard floor about 15 times until you are sure you have started the kernel flux capacitor.
Then restart the device.
If the device fails to start normally, take it back to the stockist and tell them you were born retarded and that you want to trade it in for an iPhone.
If you've got an HTC Phone you can install ASTRO (or any APK) using HTC Sync.

Just use droid explorer and close this thread
or you can use adb to install apks.
so in short yes there are ways to install apk without market.
I use Android Mate for my file manager. Also MybackupPro which backs up my apk's. Ones I download from the Market, phone browser or home computer all get put in one folder & merged with a backup on my sdcard. If I need an app later and in bad cell coverage can install without downloading again.
From what I understand only apps from the Market are updated so I try and download it there first.

I was able to play Samurai Vengeance II which it says powered by Nvidia Tegra II on my O3D without a root. But this is something exceptional. Great guide to take our devices one more step ahead of any other competitors on the market.
O3D was already the best device overall and now it has removed one more of its very few disadvantages.
Greetings and thank you again.
How do the Nvidia games handle on the O3D? Do they play pretty smoothly or is their some noticeable glitches/lag?

Thanks for the info.. towards the end you're instruction it says "go back and select fix market settings" however, this is greyed out and says it's the option is only available in the Pro version.
Hence, is there any other way of fixing market settings without buying the pro version of ChainFire?
Thanks.
PS. My 1st post so would just like to say thanks to everyone for all the useful info on here. Picked up my O3D earlier today from carphonewarehouse. Never used Android before, moving from Symbian on the i8910 to this O3D. Before even putting the sim in, I connected it to my wifi and tried doing an update. It froze at just over 40%, tried several things before ending up on this forum. Needless to say, after through 6 hours of threads I eventually managed to get it going. Cheers everyone!
Edit: It's ok, figured it out! Thanks.
So how do you work around the free version not being able to fix market settings without purchasing the pro version?

[MOD]One Click Root and custom recovery

This one click root is only for windows. Make sure to enable usb debugging, then simply extract, then click on root tool sharp program. Once up, just click on the root button, press yes if windows asks you if it is ok to run this program, and soon enough your og droid will have rz recovery, and full root. This works on all froyo builds, including frk76. It does not work on eclair. Do not use this if you already have root, or are running a custom rom simply because you do not have to.
Should have put this here a long time ago. This will NOT work, if you do not have a sd card inserted and working properly on your device:good:

Sleep 300 was kinda stupid but the script works!
It made my Nod32 go nuts though, so if you're getting "this is a virus" from your software, you'll have to disable that before downloading, unzipping and using then re-enable it afterward.

Line 10 in the root script:
adb shell "./data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage & sleep 300;kill $!"
It hangs for like 5 minutes. I got a laugh out of it. And there are no virus' on the download, my stupid anti-virus thought there was so I was just letting people know it's safe, even if their software says it isn't.
why is sleep 300 there?

well, not sure what I'm doing wrong but here is my experience:
OG Droid 2.2.3 (build FRK76). Attached to computer with usb debugging on in charge only mode. Run root tool sharp.exe, one click root box opens. Click on the 'Root' button and the cmd prmt window pops up and runs some scripts. It hang on line 10 for about 5 mins, blazes through the rest of the script (too fast for me to read what it's doing), closes itself and reboots my phone. when the phone reboots i do not have SU installed. I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) if that matters. Please let me know if i'm missing a step or doing something wrong.
thanks in advance.
i'm having the same issue as the guy above.. seems to be issues with the chmod777 part for me.. mostly the "rageagainstthecage" file doesn't seem to push or activate right, then adb can't find it..
Any Tips?
i'm in USB debug mode.. i have an sd card in.. i have the USB drivers from moto..
For anyone with problems make sure your sdcard is inserted and indeed working properly Make sure it isnt to full eaither. If you have a screen lock set up, make sure to unlock your phone before performing this process. should work after that.

Security Unlocked probably means UEFI is off, or otherwise the bootloader is unlocked. Could be very wrong on that, though. Either way, doesn't matter since we don't have a 8X ROM to cook and modify.

This is so very serious and huge news...if it has the UEFI unlocked like an ES is supposed to be. Can you access the file system/mount device in bootloader mode?
Also, could you try and install a WP7.* xap file ( just download an app/game xap from xda or this one from here, not a sys messing one) on it? Just copy it inside phone's int meme and click on it, the installer ''should" handle the xap...
BTW,if tha XAP installs and runs I could say that phone is worth its weight in gold...cough...cough...for us and MS.

I posted partition dump instructions in that thread, but I now see that this could be even more useful in the future, for allowing us to have unlocked bootloaders with all engineering features intact. So if you could somehow get us, either a full "disk image" or preferably all of the individual partitions, that would be awesome!
All the tools needed can be found in the links of my footer. It could be that you need to install some additional USB drivers as well.. But we'll see.

My brains! Is it possible to do that via TeamViewer or something like that? So you would control my PC?
EDIT: I got into the 'bootloader mode' (not sure if it is). I plugged it into my notebook and it installed Windows Mobile Device Center (forgot the exact name lol) and the 'Serial' mode changed into 'USB'. ?

It's not that hard and it can't be done via remote support unless you have two machines ( you need one running linux and the other one with a IM that has video also). Your best shot is to find a friend that knows Linux and has a Linux distro installed and "beg" him to do it for you.
Also, it would be wise to keep secret the rest of the info about the device. It's been known that MS roams XDA and this thread isn't good news for them, just let me put this in another way : it's like you've got a WIN8 key generator in your hands ( though this is not a solution to activate W8). Stick to PM the devs.
Gracias
More finds. I pressed camera, volume UP, and power. Got this on Windows.
CHECK FIRST PAGE. =)
