It's annoying that the official gmail app does not show an unread mail count on the icon, i use the gmail unread count widget however the lock screen customisation does not allow widgets to be used, only apps. Is there a way round this? Or am I doing it wrong?
Why does the gmail app not have unread count?

Hi*,
Since I'm playing more and more with my Desire and trying to beautify my home/lock screens, I'm looking for a (minimalist) widget showing the amount of missed calls, unread texts and unread mails. I know that I can simply use the handcent widget and that the market offers plenty of gmail widgets, but I really want them to have the same design.
Do you have any idea about this ?
many thanks

Is there anyway to have email notification show a number on the email icon? For example, if i have 2 new emails, the email icon would show number 2 on the email icon. I have yahoo.
Also, anyway to have miss call number show in different color?
Thx
NoLED has a notification for email on your lockscreen that shows the amount of new emails. You can customize LauncherPro to show unread emails also. I think it'll work for yahoo, not certain.
ADW Notifier and there's also a widget that you can get from the market that will show the unread count with a gmail icon.
I am using the default email app with an Exchange server account. Is there any way to see a numerical indication of the number of unread messages in the inbox through an icon on the screen? I use the email widget that when pressed, takes me right to my Inbox. In the Samsung world this widget would show the number of unread messages in real time. Can't seem to replicate that with Google's default mail app. Anyway to accomplish this?

You can install a different launcher (like Nova) and it can show you unread count next to the icon.
Any way to accomplish this through DashClock?
I've noticed that there is no unread message count on the Google Hangouts and stock email app icon. Any way to get this? Or do I have to use a different app.
I'm having the same problem. No unread count on gmail or hangouts. No LED notification either.
I don't recall the there ever being unread counts in stock android. Have to use third party launcher like Nova.

Notifyer+ should work. Issues with it is i don't think it lines up with the new Google Experience Launcher yet. If you are using another launcher you can adjust the height and size of the icon and title to try and match the others on the screen. Works great on most launchers, but haven't tried it on the N5 yet.
Hi All,
My very first post on XDA forums, i have used these forums for great help in the past.
I'm a little stumped at the moment, i am using Dodol Launcher on my Nexus 5 with Lollipop OS, i'm about 90% happy with the whole launcher, just need to know if there's any good notification badge applications out there for Ebay? so when i get notifications in Ebay, the badge app icon with notification count comes up on the homescreen icon? An app which lets me select which apps show homescreen unread badge counts on the icon would be perfect!
Also, is there a good email app which supports multiple email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo etc) all in one, and will combine the unread messages as a badge app count on the homescreen icon?
Any suggestions would help, please don't mention another launcher as i'm quite happy with Dodol at thei stage.
Thanks!
The email app you need is my mail. I use it and it is superb. Takes all accounts plus you get an email account from them which just uses your phone no as a pass word so can only be used on your phone. Makes for really good names. As you put say your name then its just @MY.com. I've Gmail Hotmail etc on it and it takes nova notification badges
