Im new to the android scene but was wondering if there is a way to turn off 4g on the infuse I am rooted
Ya there are apparently you can use, can't think of any but search the market for data toggle.

Choose Phone Information
Near the bottom is a drop-down, the default is GSM/WCDMA Auto. To turn off 3G, change it to GSM Only. To turn it back on, switch it back to GSM/WCDMA Auto.
On AT&T and T-Mobile, "4G" isn't really 4G - it's just HSDPA+ which is part of the 3G standards. None of the current "4G" services meet the original ITU requirements for 4G, but the ITU gave into pressure from the carriers and lowered the bar SIGNIFICANTLY.
Thanks for the info i changed to phone setting and went to change it back and something happened i cannot get any internet service at all could you give me the settings for SMSC: i hit refresh and it typed in 0180 and also toggle DNS check is set on not allowed any help would be greatly appreciated
Try going to Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks and check Use packet data. Having it unchecked will turn off data, similar to Airplane mode but you still have a phone connection.
Thank-you that worked
You can either go to edge or turn data off completely. HSPA+ is 3G.

AT&T will have true 4G up and running by the end of this year in select major cities across the US with more to follow in the first quarter of next year. so up until then, any 4G toggles you download off the market or add to your phone won't function yet
4G Toggle
Thanks for the information, I was having the same issue. PPhoen toggles back and forth between 3G and 4G(H)

Irrelevant - our phone doesn't have LTE anyways.
From XDA App on Infused v2.2.3 OCed to 1.6 GHz
Extended controls has a 4G toggle. its only $.99. I'm sure there's free ones but it works particularly well, at least for me.
Like the person above you said. 4g toggle is useless for our phones..
I'm new to the infuse. I used to have a galaxy s now I have the infuse 4g from rogers (Canada) I know that were only running HSDPA+ but is there supposed to be a 4G icon I only get a 3G icon instead.
Thanks in advance.

is there any way that you can disable 3g mobile data while keeping on the 4g data(like you can with the evo 4g)?
the reason i ask is this... i use my phone to tether to the computer in my room, and it seems that i get a weak 4g signal there, so its constantly going back and forth between 4g and 3g. I'd prefer to keep the phone only on a 4g signal, even if weaker. is there a way to do this ?
Try the app lte onoff from the market. I believe there's an option for lte only.
Which selection would it be? thanks in advance

I need this too.
On the thunderbolt if you used one of those phone info apps you had the options for CDMA only, CDMA/LTE auto and LTE only.
I have to use LTE only when I want to tether in my office because if I leave it on auto my phone will constantly switch between 4 and 3g and it rapes my battery.
If you use those same apps on the charge they show a bunch of gsm options and wcdma and such. Far as I can tell none of them do anything either. The built in options on the phone allow you to use CDMA only or CDMA/LTE auto but not LTE only. Definitely hope someone can work up a fix soon as it's a key issue for me (I own two tablets that I like to tether).
please help. How to activate 2G/3G switch in INFUSE 4G (I997UCKD5).
I would like to switch my phone between EDGE and HSDPA+ speeds.
The Edge and Hsdpa+ speeds are the same on ATT lol

i just asked about switch, not for the ATT speed.
Somebody knows how to to activate this button?

There is NO switch like that, if you want only 2G then simply set the phone to "GSM only" and it will only get the slow EDGE speeds regardless of what area you are in.
If you do not set the phone for GSM only then the phone will automatically switch to 3G/4G speeds if those speeds are available in whatever area you are in.
Whenever you are in a 3G/4G area you will see a little icon in your notification bar if you have not set the phone up for GSM Only.

You're right... I tried to force GSM Only and failed.
Not sure why you would ever want to force WCDMA only. The phone will always prefer 3G over 2G.

The reason for doing that is if you are somewhere on the outer edge of a 3g/4g connection and it keeps jumping back and forth. All the signal jumping can kill a battery quicker.

How to Switch Samsung Infuse 4G i997 to 2G Edge Network. Turn off 3G/4G on Samsung In
Warning: This will work depending on where you’re at. If you’re in a good area with excellent coverage your phone may just stay with the H+ and not switch. Here we go.
Step 1) Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Step 2) Click Phone Information (at the top)
Step 3) Scroll down
Step 4) Click the grey/bluish menu and select GSM only. DON’T SELECT ANY OTHER ONES or you may roam on other carriers.
Why would you do this? You can save battery power by not using the H+ network.

Hey! I'm new to the forums and just got a Skyrocket this week.
I was just wondering if its possible to force the LTE signal to HSPA only or even Edge/3g?
Looks like the LTE radio is locked pretty tight. Anyone out there find a method to bypass this? I've tried the administrative menus in the Phone Information menu and even some of the Apps in the market LTE on/off and nothing seems to work.
Thanks!
Pretty sure you can change your APN settings to allow only hspa since lte seems to require the PTA setting. Look for the various settings and I'll update later if you have no luck.

I thought of that too for battery saving.
Here in Canada I tried changing the APN from the default LTE setting to the internet.com setting but it is still stuck on 4G. I didn't subscribe to LTE plan yet but Speedtest.net tests is still better on the LTE apn.
*#2263#* gives access to the RAT selection menu, which lets you choose to park on GSM/UMTS/LTE, and separately which bands (850,1900,1700,2100, etc.) to park on within each technology.
Unfortunately the menu is restricted on our current radio, in my experience with previous Samsung UMTS radios we will need to flash a radio that is not restricted (at least temporarily, to unlock the menu) to get access to this.
@cue_32 i believe its supposed to say LTE when you are on lte. if it says 4g its really just 3g (or 3g+).
It would be great if an LTE on/off switch was created. If the current radio restricts this from occurring would be a huge bummer. I'll have to dig around on the Development blog to see if anyone is starting to look into this or creating some kinda switch.
The TPC rom gives you the option to choose LTE or HSPA in the settings.

What would be nice is if the ROM only connects to 3G when on idle, then go to 4G or LTE when data is being used. For better battery life

Hi, how can I bypass AT&T throttling through chaning the APN? I'm running 2.3.6 stock and am in NYC. Thank you!
So I turned off 4g using phone info because I was in an area that doesn't have good coverage. But now when I go back into phone info, I can't seem to get 4g back!!
What's the trick??

Turn the Radio off and On. Make sure that you have it set to LTE/CDMA/EVDO (or something similar to that).
My question to you was why turn it off if they area didn't have 4G anyways? LTE switches over to 3G simultaneously anyways..

I actually reflashed the rom and 4g came back. I'll just leave it. I turned it off cause I figured it would save a bit of juice.

Next time you want to switch:
3G: CDMA (Auto PRL)
4G LTE: LTE/EVDO/CDMA
3G (DATA ONLY, NO VOICE/SMS): EVDO
Global: Roaming Network and or Home if available
LTE: Roaming LTE (AT&T or lower end Verizon LTE. Suggest you use the other option for 4G LTE as this one picks up very bad signals)
GSM: Doesn't work unless you modify the phone
WCDMA: Doesn't work unless you modify the phone.
I use the "phone info" app and when I select LTE/EVDO/CDMA, it just goes into and stays in 3g mode..? for me to use 4g, I have to select LTE only... any info on why LTE/EVDO/CDMA does not go into 4g mode?...
thanks

I had a problem with "phone info" messing up and found "battery moniter widget" app free in play store. If you install it there is a really good widget for battery, plus when in app click on tests then device info and you get radio menu just like phone info. But it has never hung or not worked right for me.

ITS at work told me today that Telstra are switching off the 2100 network tomorrow (31 Aug) and that my phone might not get data connection afterwards - has anyone else heard about this and know if it is true or not?
I find all the frequencies plus 2g, 3g hsdpa, edge nextg stuff confusing...
I've not heard this before. I, too, am fairly ignorant when it comes to mobile networks.
90% plus of my data usage is over Wi-Fi, but I'd be very miffed if I had no data connection at work done I rely on my Exchange account staying synched.
Of course, all we have to do is wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Yep, cross fingers and let's see. Reading a bit about it on whirlpool and it may be that we drop from HSDPA on 21,000 to the slower Edge on 850, hope not!
EDIT - the little signal indicator in the notification bar has changed from 'H' to 'E' for me over lunchtime... wonder if thats it. Browsing does seem a fair bit slower
E stands for Edge (2 /2.5 G) ...
Whereas., H stands for HSPDA (3/3.5G).
Try selecting WDCMA only in your Settings > Mobile Network Settings >Mobile Network mode.
This should give you only a 3G signal., if available. . Or else no network at all!
You can try switching back to GSM /WDCMA auto and be able to see the network back again.. In this mode it will select the best available option.

Thanks for the tip. If I set my phone to WCDMA Only, I get no connection., So I've left out I WCDMA Preferred.
By the way, I don't have those setting options, but I can get there by entering *#*#4636#*#* in the phone disaster and selecting Phone Information.

Weird, I use the same shortcut to get to that menu and tried wcdma only, my data signal indicator is now 3g (sometimes H).
No idea what frequency it is using but I'm getting data and presumably it must be better than E, edge. I'm in metro Melbourne btw

On CM10 (and I know you are running that ) you have a toggle called 2g/3g and in the settings you can change the network modes.
I have set them to 2g/3g only, because normally I'm in a WI-FI area and there 3g is useless.

Edit the screenshot wasn't working
I guess, the 2G/3G toggle option is the same as GSM only or WCDMA only option.
Edit : Ok, the pic in the above post just loaded... It's the same way of doing things, a bit differently though !

In fact, H is (just) better than 3G as well.
And as far as you are getting H/3G, leave the frequency to the network Radio Engineers to handle
