I think I just cried a little. Thank goodness for insurance.

Exactly what I thought....think it dropped on corner because you can see the cracks coming from bottom left.

Gorilla glass will crack, depending on the angle/surface that the phone drops...the whole point of gorilla class was that it doesn't scratch easily, not that it will never shatter

How much are you guys paying for insurance? I have it for $7.99/ month.

I never get insurance for my phones or buy any cases or even screen protectors. If I have a problem with the phone, I will take it to HTC USA.

And wait two to four weeks for them to fix it and ship it back at your cost of shipping?
No thanks. I'd rather pay the couple bucks a month and have a phone tomorrow then wait for them.

what you going to do with the damaged one? i like to take them apart and see what they made of...interested in selling to me cheap to play with? thanks..frank

Can you pay for insurance even after you have purchased the phone and had it for more than a month?

I think they give you 14 days, I'm not exactly sure on the exact days but its around there. I think 1 month is too late to purchase it.

Reason #439 that I always use a case. If nothing else it adds a little impact resistance.

You can scratch that reason. I just had the EXACT same thing happen WITH the Tmo case on. I Dropped the phone from about waist level and it landed perfectly flat, screen-side down.....and shattered. I had it from the Day 1 launch at Walmart and while thankfully I had insurance, the $130 fee wasn't exactly the best news.
At least they include "free" next-day shipping with Assurion.

my heartfelt sympathies man!! I feel for you!!

So.... Is there anything I can do about this? WARNING: BRUTAL PHOTOS

It looks like the LCD might be okay, so it may just be the digitizer that's damaged. Those are fairly inexpensive to buy but I've heard they're not very fun to replace if you're inexperienced. Try seeing if there are any repair shops around that will fix it if you provide the digitizer.
what happened to it? it looks fine to me
p.s. digitizer and LCD need to be replace Digitizer is usually 60 dorra(attempt at Chinese accent)
It literally fell 2.5 feet out of my hand onto the floor of the bus while I was getting on. I'm going to try and scrap it on eBay to offset another one.
Get insurance on it with tmo over the phone, wait a few days and file a claim. Or just order the parts and watch the youtube video for it. It really isn't that hard to replace. Just take your time when you do it.

This phone can take drops but not flat on its face. If it landed fat its going to crack samething happen to me. I have insurance though its going to cost 130 dollars.

Not to much some but not as bad as the powerskin case good protection for Trident case. First time I bought a case for a phone the power skin case isn't no case... Didn't help my phone from breaking.

That sucks man... I use a T-mobile 2 part case that's rubber with a hard plastic shell
It's taken its share of falls from my lap getting out of the car (nasty habit that I will eventually kick). The plastic is actually broken off on 2 corners. Only thing that is wrong with it is some damage to the bezel since that part is only covered by rubber. It has seriously paid off dividends though. I'm sure my phone would be mad ugly if I never got the case.
Guess its random... I just dropped my phone like three feet to concrete... no damage thank god! Anyways you can try calling customer care and complaining about the lack of durability... I know gridlock dropped his phone and it broke and he called and complained and got a new one free of charge... you should pm him and ask him what exactly he said ....

...and the tales of survival commence.
A week or so after getting the phone, mine fell 4-5 feet into concrete stairs. It hit on a corner, had a tiny mark because of it. The phone worked fine otherwise.
But...a month or two after that fall I was able to replace the phone because mine had the "bad" screen.

It would be easily painted tbh, it would need sanding down then painting with a primer/undercoat then a topcoat of your choosing (Depending on the paint you may need to add a top coat of lacquer)

The problem with the pain removers is that it would also remove it from the "htc" which then takes away from the appeal imo.

Damn dude, I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me! Well, I doubt it would, I have a Trident Aegis Case on mine.
My G2x fell about 3 feet onto tile yesterday and the glass is cracked something terrible. Will post a picture when I get back from vacation.
Hopefully I can get a similar repair deal from LG.
mine didn't quite look as bad as that pic, but was pretty bad. It still worked just fine, I could feel the cracks in it when moving my finger over the glass. Just call LG, they quoted a price between $40-$100, gave me a confirmation number. I mailed it in, then got an email with the total amount due for a repair. Called and paid over the phone, got my phone back about 5 days later...pretty easy..
Definately wasn't happy when it happened, actually felt sick to my stomach
Mine survived a swim in the pool. In fact it stopped randomly rebooting after that. Now it runs great.

I just broke mine recently too, I ordered a white replacement digitizer on ebay, originally thought I would receive the whole assembly as most are advertised with the housing that has volume /power buttons, I got just the screen still easy fix though it required some tough gloves and a screwdriver to break all the old digitizer out and some impact proof superglue to put old one in though it worked, and now i have a black and white g2x its quite nice here's a link to a video on how to replace it.
I would recommend for ease of replacement to get a black one with the housing (volume and power buttons) attached. much much easier to replace.

I sent mine to LG (well, Stellar Wireless) after I dropped it, and they swapped it out for me for $40. Unfortunately, the one they sent me had non0functioning 4G and GPS, so I had to send it back in and I'm waiting for my replacement to be returned to me.
I ordered the digitizer from eBay. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to replace

My new digitizer should be here in a couple days, seems a whole lot easier to repair than my last phone, so I will update on how it goes. My biggest thought is about getting dust or anything between the LCD and digitizer. :/

Samsung warranty

So I have a hard bricked infuse. Don't necessarily need to go into deets on that. However, I can exchange my infuse through warranty. But there is a glitch; I have a hair line crack in my screen. Maybe an inch in the top right corner. Warranty will cover it, but cost me $370. I was wondering if I could just bring the phone in locally to have that crack sealed (if possible at all. Heard of people doing it.) then send it into warranty without them knowing the difference? Then get my new phone without that hefty fee.
Plan b is to send it into the jtag peeps. I've already tried the jig. That's a no go.
Heres a pic of the crack. Its that black line in the corner. Its hardly visible.
