Disable Softkey backlighting - Thunderbolt General

Does anyone know how to permanently disable the softkey backlighting? Is it somewhere in the build.prop?

You can use the screen filter app.. it can disable softkeys on the TB and if you don't want to reduce brightness just set it to 100 and to disable softkeys.

I've tried screen filter. It doesn't work for me. There has to be another way

I found an app to do exactly that...
Keyboard backlight controller. Free in Market, requires root.

I would like mine to go off after a few seconds while the screen stays on.

Disable softkey backlighting?

Is it possible to disable the backlight for the soft keys?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I'm pretty sure there isn't a way but don't quote me on that. My logic is because it seems the backlit keys use the screen light to actually become backlit they aren't like a separate area really.
I think they are on a separate sensor. In CM7 they would be off a lot of the time.

Yes they can be disabled.

You can try the LEDS hack (root) from the market.. I know it works on the inc, haven't tried it on the thunderbolt though I know it's not listed as "supported".. worth a shot
Could you point me in the direction I need to go?

Leds hack is a no go. Thanks though.

There are two LEDs at the bottom of the phone that light the keys. I accidentally covered them up when replacing my LCD so I have no backlight for the keys now and...I kinda like it! They aren't bleeding into the screen now too.

They can be disabled in the kernel.
You can disable them.by editing the framework also =)
App called "screen filter" has the option for it. Only lasts as long as its open though(runs in background, open in notifications). But it does work.

Thanks Now when my phone is using void lock it looks like it is dead if someone tries to mess around on it.
What about an app that shuts it off permanently? When I put it to sleep and wake it back up... poof, lights are back on.

If you are running cm7 or cm9, check out this guide for dimming the screen, just set all the button values to zero and the soft buttons won't light up anymore.

Theres a app called screen filter that lets u turn them off
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
you could always install MikG 3.11 and run Miktweaks which is built into the ROM; it has the option to disable the illumination for those buttons.

You've gone into the advanced settings and checked the adjust soft key box? Then set the frequency to always off.
You need to check lux to never be killed. Then bring up the dashboard and refresh you lux value and then the settings should stick. I've found that at night the capacitive keys turn back on though.

You can try the link button to match the settings to a particular lux value. Honestly it took a bit of trial and error to get the settings to stick.
Do the steps before open the dashboard, let it adjust the value. Set your default back light % and then link it. Mine eventually stuck. As I said at night they still come back on. Go figure !

You can just disasmble the screen and take out the light filters for the 4 keys! That's what I did.

Turn off backlight.

Hello
I'm looking for an app that disables the screen backlight but leaves the screen on. I don't have amoled, so I know it is possible, it even happened sometimes by some ROM error. Do you know any of such apps? The screen backlight is using just to much energy and I want the phone to stay active.

i'm not sure if this app totally turns off the screen backlight:

Disable capacitive buttons

Would anyone know how to disable the light of the capacitive buttons as well as disable the buttons all together?
Sent from my unknown using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know you can disable the lights in Xposed Gravitybox. Not sure you can totally disable them.
For those wondering how to disable Tue capacitive buttons I have attached a photo to the directory and the file you want to edit is shown at the bottom. To disable them you must insert a # before the number for each key.
Now if I can find the directory to dim the lights...
Sent from my unknown using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I found the directory for the lighting but it keeps reverting back to its typical level after a few seconds. Would anyone know why this is? Also, I cannot backup the file either..kind of odd too!
Sent from my unknown using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I use an app capacitive buttons. But it seems the only way to get them back on is a reboot.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have used the application before but I was looking for a more definitive way. On the ROM I was running the brightness of the capacitive buttons mirrored the brightness of the LCD brightness; however, on the stock ROM this is not the case. Why the difference? I don't know all.
Regardless, I caved and installed Gravity Box to handle the issue.
