I'm trying to use the Kitchen to do a few mods to my Unity rom, but I'm not sure how to upload the required files to be able to flash them. I don't see a how to anywhere on this. Is it that simple and I'm an idiot or is it as confusing as I'm making it.
On the kitchen page there is a link for support which will tell you how to install the mods.
The how to doesn't show how to upload the files from your rom so you can flash the zip and make sure it works. I can do everything except for uploading the framework and system files.

You need an app like root explorer or file expert. You have to navigate to your root directory.
In file expert download from market... it's a free app...give root permissions and then make root directory your home... so when you hit the home button it will automatically go to your root folders directory.
There you will find \system\framework and \system\app .
That's where you'll find the files you need.
Copy them to your desktop (easiest way is to copy to sdcard then connect to pc and transfer them to desktop) and then in the kitchen when you get to upload files... point the kitchen to those files.

If i added mods that included new font and I want to change it later, is that all I'll need create a mod for or will I need to create a whole new one. Will it just flash over the old font?
If all you want to change is the font then you have to upload your modded files to the kitchen. That or download font switcher/custom android font changer from the market.

I just installed the incognito theme and love it but was wondering how to switch the font back to stock. Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm also intrested in changing up a few fonts? And font colors too. I've browsed around most of the apk files to see if anything stands out to me but no luck... Mostly .png image files. Which ive successfully modified. But can't seem to find straight forward answers floating around for fonts in the any of the forums.
Any help pointing to the right files locations??
Why would you want to go back to the old font
If you wanna do that, the best way is to repackage the Incognito zip file with the fonts you wanna use. You can do that by:
1 Extract the files in the .zip file to some location on your computer (there should be 2 folders and a file, I think).
2 From your extracted files, go to the font folder located inside the system folder
3 Replace the fonts in that folder with any fonts you want (in your case, you'll have to download the stock fonts from somewhere) and make sure that the fonts are renamed to match the ones before
4 Once that's done, repackage the files/folders as a .zip file by jumping back out to the location of where you originally extracted the files, selecting all 3 files/folders(ctrl+ click each one), right click and "send to compressed folder (zip)".
5 Put that file on your sd card and install it the same way you installed the theme the first time.

Hey Guys I just want to be able to create my own themes for sense ui, can anyone help me out..... I think i need to change the rosie apk and do I need m10 tools?
there's a couple of files to edit. someone in the themes & apps section did a rough outline of what to do, you may want to search through there.
I think you need to edit images from framework.apk
Hi
You will need to edit the images in the framework-res.apk, systemui.apk and com.htc.resources.apk
For some of the apks like Rosie and the lockscreen you will need the m10tools. For the others you do not.

Yes you can use APK manager. If you are editing only the images then a better idea would be to open the APK with winrar and drop the images in the respective folders. Do not extract the APK. If you want to edit the XML files then you will need to decompile it using APK manager.
APK manager is simple to use. Start the program and place the APK file in the place-apk-here-for-modding folder. In the program select option 22 and choose your APK.
Then select option 9 and decompile the APK. Once it has decompiled, you can go into the projects folder and edit whatever you want. After you have finished editing, select the compile option in the program and then zipalign the APK.

Yes you will have to zipalign it. You will have to flash it. Installing it will not work.

XML files store data and text, they are not pictures. Anyways to see the pictures you can extract the APK using winrar, or you can decompile it using APK manager.

Thanks about the winrar tip! I think it would be easier for me to replace the pngs through there than something else. right now i'm looking through my iphone for all pngs, but the problem is that the scan has found over 90 thousand pngs! Its going to take a while to sort that out but when i'm finished I bet its going to be good.
So im wondering, when I edit a system apk this is the process I use:
Open apk with 7zip, I dont extract.
Replace all png's I want to and exit.
Simple yes? Heres the problem. How do I edit AndroidManifesto.xml and add it back in? I can get the xml un-encyrpted and edit it but do I need to make the file encypted again before I put it back?
Any comments/suggestions welcomed
Thanks!

Unzip the ROM file, place the APK in "/System/app" rezip the file and flash it.
Or open the ROM file in Winrar, navigate to "/System/app/" drag and drop the apk file there and save it. Then flash it.
you need ROM Cleaner

Hi I'm making a rom but I dont know how to preset a application on the home scream.
So when somone flashes the rom and starts up for the first time theyll see the application shortcuts on the launcher.
How do I do this ?
Thanks,
I think the simpliest way is to make the home screen the way you want and then just copy data of your launcher (for example /data/data/your.launcher or system/data/your.launcher) and include it in rom package. And you probably have to edit the updater script so the data/ (or system/data) folder will be copied
(Sorry for my English)

I'm trying to edit the current launcher it's a xperia z launcher the when the rom boots on the phone for the first time there is nothing on the homescreen. So I'm working of that launcher.
Although I'm a newbie to the new rom making I cannot find the /data file in the rom ?
1. Flash the rom you are working on to your device. Drag apps you want onto the home screen.
2. Then open a root browser and go to data/data and you should find a folder of that launcher. They are named like com.devname.appname.
3. And then you will be able to put it to your rom's .zip package. Oh and you'll have to edit your rom's updater-script so the data folder will be copied during flashing. (there are guides at xda about editing updater-script)
Well, i'm not very good at rom development myself. And i'm not good at explaining Hope it helps and you will be able to make your rom!
