[Q] CWM not installing correctly NEED HELP! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I had it working and had Trigger 0.4 ROM Flashed on it and it was working ok but then Bionix Black Ice came and I couldnt help but want to flash it. I had everything correct and checked my mounts and so on in CWM so I flashed it but then when it came to reboot "Linda" said something about system not found and it was stuck on the Galaxy S 4G start up screen. I did a ODIN install of a stock+root ROM and I've been trying to get CWM back onto my phone so I can get Trigger back but nothing works. Keeps saying failed verifacation. Ive read everything and still can find a solution!!
Who can help!!
(and yes I made sure that in root explorer it was monuted R/W and I overwritten the recovery file over and over again and still nothing.)

Nevermind I was smart enough to figure it out on my own. Turns out that if your root explorer is outdated then it wont work at all. Simple fix just took awhile to figure that out. Oh well. Onward.

And just everyone knows i still cant get Black Ice ROM to install even with all the instructions to do so. "Linda" still says system unavailable and will stay on the Galaxy S 4G start screen and will not go into recovery after so i have to ODIN back to stock and start all over.
I guess ill just stick with Trigger for now.

for that follow the instructions seems that some of the kd 1 have a dirty system partiton put the bali 2.1 on the root of your sd card once u install black ice go and install the 2.1 kernel then reboot let black ice load up do its thing then reboot to cwm and install 3.1

First yoy need to find these files and then flash in this exact order you need ext4 converter, black ice kd1 without voodoo, bali 3.1 uv then you wanna flash them in this order assuming you already know how to get to CWM already. Make sure you put these on root of sdcard not in any folders. Check your mounts
Cache/unmount
Data/mount
Sdcard/mount
Systen/unmount
1. Flash ext4 converter
2. Flash black ice kd1
3. Flash voodoo
4. You shiul be red cwm go ti advanced and Restart recovery
5. Disable voodoo
6. Reboot
And linda will let handle the rest will take abiut 5 mins to load to team whiskey loge and a few more minutes after that ket phone sit fir about 10 mins to settle in and vuala you running one if the fastest stock roms out there i mean superfast hit me uo if you have any problems worse case you will have to odin back to stock i know it took me sometime to almost gave it up and hit the thanjs button if its there.

So I downloaded the heinz 57 rom with the steel blue theme. Everything seems to be working, except the home screen transition effects. Like the book flip. I tried flashing a different theme and reflashing the rom. Any ideas?

If you are trying to use the LED as a flashlight try instant heart rate from the market. can't be left on while you multi task and probably is a huge batt drain but works great for both purposes...2ยข

I'm having no issues with my flashlight app. I use Tiny Flashlight
The only issues ive had with Heinz57 is that I cant get the clock on the status bar to change any color but black. And sometimes the market does some weird things, and force closes. So I am having trouble downloading apps/games.
EDIT
I fixed the color issue by restarting my phone after I changed the settings. That worked.
Im still having trouble with the market though. I will try to reflash my phone and see what happens.
Is anyone else having that issue on Heinz57?
my setup
EC10 with root and recovery
CWM 2.5
Heinz57 v4.40.11
OTB Reloaded v 1.3
so far 0 problems whatsoever and its faster than hell. if you dont match this setup. try it. its been literally flawless for me.
i cant get Heinz57 to install. i got the latest update version (5/3/11) and i also completely wiped my phone all the way back to stock (Froyo 2.2) and i have followed directions to a T. but my problem is when i select the zip file to install the ROM from the red recovery it gets to "Installing Update..." and just freezes. the loading bar does nothing and the phone is useless. any suggestions?

My guess is that you aren't waiting long enough. This Rom takes a little longer than most to install.
how long should i be waiting? i can run the EC10 PnP v0.3 ROM with no problems but when i want to switch to ANYTHING else it just stops when it gets to the "Installing Update..." step. it even still has the lines in the loading bar instead of being solid with the download progress. AHHHH! it's driving me crazy! i've been going at it for two days solid now with no luck (although i'm only a noob).
try using the 4/30/11 or wahtever it is. thats what im using and its perfect. the only changes in the new version is he fixed a bug with the MIUI lockscreen i beleive. its basically identical.

You should make sure you're using the latest version of cwm located below, let us know if you still have the issue. I typically flash the .tar in odin (it will replace the existing blue stock recovery so that you don't have to apply any update.zip to get into CWM)

A plus I have noticed is there is no longer a full battery pop-up when charging.

For heinz 57, you require to already have EC10 and the PnP already installed.
So the order i did things in was...
1. EC10 Root and Recovery flashed using odin
2. installed update.zip from blue CWM to get red CWM, , then cwm-recovery-all.zip to keep it red on boot (i think i rebooted once here to make sure i got to red right away alright - no problems)
3. installed mesmerize ec10 .5 pick n pack, from red CWM,
4. then Heinz_57.Hybrid_v4_30_11_OTB.zip installed from cwm red.
hope this helps - i had problems installing heinz 57 until i ready very carefully.
addition: you only need EC10 for heinz, but i could not get just the EC10 root and recovery to work with heinz, so i tried installing the PnP ater the Root and recovery and then heinz installed fine no problems. I am, however having problems with the gps. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067693 for details if you can help - thanks).

er...not exactly.
I've flashed this rom a dozen times, and every kernel available. It works just fine.
Try This.
1: Do a stock (non-rooted) odin flash.
2: Boot your phone, do any account setup, blah blah.
3: Turn Phone off, flash custom recovery-all-fixed
4: Reboot, let fully boot, then turn off, reboot to custom recovery.
5: Install heinz 5/3 (it comes with a kernel, and it's rooted) from zip on sdcard (not update.zip)
6: Reboot, let fully boot, then turn off.
7: Boot to recovery, wipe dalvik and data and then flash your theme.
8: Enjoy.
Make sure you read all the info provided by the devs on their respective threads. If you're applying a ported theme, then read the original thread for that theme.
And remember kids...if you don't know what you're doing, and you have trouble following clearly outlined instructions, and don't check in chat for answers, fail to read guides and tutorials sticked, or are just downright simple...you probably have no business messing with your phone.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Read, alot, ask lots of questions in the right places if you can't find the answers you need from reading. Then post a thread.
And tell 'em J sent ya!

This is something with mrhome. I will add to my op post about it. I didn't know that Livewallpaper work with the transitions.

Cwm doesn't automatically reboot.

If this is normal please let me know. Ok so just got g2x. Came with 2.3.3 installed on phone. Flashed cwm with nvflash. Installed cwm on the external part. Installed boarders tweaked rooted stock 2.3.3 rom. It flashed everything ok and now my question. I selected reboot system. It reboot then just turn completely off? I had to hold the power button and boot it up normally? Is that normal? If anybody knows if I didn't do something right let me know please.

LMAO!!! skipped all over that part! Thanks for the re-read. Gave you a thanks!

I give up! Ready to Root!!

On my 4th G2x. Same problems as the others. Reboots on its on, sleep of death. In fact this morning I was talking on phone and it shut down. I had to remove battery and reboot.
I called Customer Service that has always been super nice. This time they said, oh, since this is your 4th and this one just in 6 days I can't help you I have to send you to Tech. The Tech guy basically said "known software problem, sending replacement won't do any good. Can't give you different phone. Maybe it is your SD card and apps you have loaded. He actually told me Facebook app could cause it to shut down. Said to reset to factory, remove SD card and use it for 3 days with no apps. After 3 days if all is well then start adding apps. I asked what if it has problems during the 3 days? He said, 'there is nothing we can do. I will report this to LG and they will send out an update. I don't know when but they will update the software".
WTH?! So I am done. I will do the root. Now i just need to read all these great threads to figure out how and which version! Wish i could just pay one of you to do it for me!
Thanks for letting me rant.
I've been running stock since August with no issues but I really wanted the LG Camera app so I installed CWR and flashed the WeaponX rom with no issues. Everything works and it's even smoother then stock Gingerbread. Just follow the directions to the T and the process should take less than fifteen minutes if you have all your files ready to go.
Enjoy!

The directions are a bit confusing as they reference other threads and then have comments stating this step is now obsolete. etc. Seems like I first need to get the ROM Manger?

I used this method to NvFlash and install Clockwork recovery which is the basic software you need in order to flash ROMs. You do not need ROM Manager. Once you've done the NvFlash and installed CWR you can copy your ROMs to the SD card or phone storage and flash through Clockwork Recovery. Make sure you backup your stock install through CWR prior to flashing anything new so you can return the phone to a usable state.
As always follow the directions verbatim, some steps take time as well. Also make sure your battery is 100% charged... If it dies during any portion of the process bad things can happen.
I had all of those issues until I flashed cm7... then the issues became very minimal... I once had 8 reboots in a day on stock rom, during phone calls and everything... You are definitely taking a step in the right direction
P.S. my wife has completely stock phone on stock rom and has Facebook app with no issues, she just got lucky I guess
To OP: do you have 2.2 or 2.3 installed as your stock rom... read carefully there are different instructions for both
Never use ROM Manager. Even if it worked perfectly on our phone I still would never recommend it. I've seen it cause more harm than good.
Anyways, you don't even technically need root to flash a ROM.
Just NVFlash CWM. After that you can upgrade to the latest CWM via ADB. Then flash your desired ROM. I suggest CM7.
yeah, you know ROM manager... now forget it. Use NVflash and clockwork
I got myself in trouble!

Now i can't get rid of it! I tried reinstalling the GB and the cyanogen won't go away! i tried restore to factory, but it won't go away!!

Make sure you wipe data, cache, dalvik then format system before flashing new ROM.

http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-t-mobile-g2x/
to install a new rom
remember: (once you've copied the zip on sd card, power the phone to enter into clockwork and steps)
1. back up and restore
2. wipe data/ factory reset
3. install zip from sd card
so far, it hasn't failed me
you can skip the first one, but shouldn't
Just download Weapon if you want to go back to stock. Its Stock with a few needed tweaks and fixes. Very stable and no issues.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
The reboot issue were in all my G2X(3). Only rom that fixed that was Weapon G2X. Running a custom rom is the way to go with this phone, otherwise you'll go through 100 replacements with same issues.
Today I did an exchange for my brother's line which he has the G2X and the rep told me I could get a brown color G2X because they no longer carry original color or a Sensation. (Not sure what he was talking about brown color because I thought all G2X were the same color other than the white floating around)
So I decided to just get the Sensation, I know it's got issues of it's own, but will give it a shot because I want the G2X to just be a memory of the past.
This phone could have been a beast, but will never live to it's full potential.
Good luck and if you need to exchange again and you don't mind getting a Sensation I would suggest bringing that up to the rep.

If you screw up and can't boot up, ROM manager cannot get you into recovery. Only an NV flashed clockworkmod recovery will boot up in the event of a boot loop.

Rom manager works just fine. However, like previously said, you just need to NVFlash first for safety reasons.
From a complete stock G2x, NVFlash, Nandroid Backup, and flash a previously downloaded rom (Weapon or CM7 or MIUI or Eaglesblood or any of the other wonderful roms). Custom roms have root so THEN you can go to town with Rom Manager.
I use Rom Manager as my primary flashing service because it not only downloads them, but will automatically reboot into recovery, perform your desired wipe options, and flash. With CM7 it will automatically check for the latest GAPPS and flash it too in one fowl swoop.
Just have to NVFlash first.
I NVFlashed my neighbors G2x the day he got it and, while he didn't want to try custom roms just yet, we did a Nandroid Backup just for laughs. Now he's running MIUI.

[Q] Flashing ICBINB help and advice needed

Hello All,
I am a new SGS4g user and have had the phone for about a month now. I've been looking into flashing, and have looked over a large number of forum posts and such to help guide me through what seems to be a difficult process. the guide i've been most looking into was this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508
I'm trying to flash the ICBINB ROM onto my phone due to all the good things I've read about this particular rom.
I finally decided that I would do it today, but when I went to wipe the data in Clockwork orange, the process got stuck at a file named Android.Secure. The post above mentioned something about this, but I wasnt too sure how to avoid it. I ended up restarting the phone, finding that it had gone to stock, ran the clockwork restore and found that in the restoration it also got stuck on this same file. After several minutes of freaking out and panicking, I did another force restart and found that thankfully my phone is back to where it was.
So I was wondering if anyone could guide me to another post, or help me to find a solution to this problem. And, if you could also help me find a more detailed guide because now I'm scared to do anything to the phone at this point without further info.
Thanks for any and all help!
Did you try just following the instructions in the post for ICBINB?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157593
The link you posted is to the NOOB's guide, which is cool, but it specifically mentioned ROM Manager. Did you install that or anything?
It's hard to say without a bit more information as to what you were doing, what step you were on, what other changes you may have made to the phone first. Can you provide some details?
Thanks for the response stephen,
Well what I had done up to that point was just create a recovery on ROM manager. Then I booted into clockwork and began the wipe of data, as the steps in the ICBINB steps said. It was here that it got stuck.
I have an update though. I tried again flashing this time through Rom Manager. When I did it, the Rom manager did its stuff and then began a reboot, where the phone got stuck on the opening screen (where it says galaxy s 4g and has the S logo). I shut it down, and tried to restart it and when I did, a voice started says `convert system partition, system not available`` and would get stuck. I pluged into odin and selected-repartition. Now, if I reboot I go into a red Voodoo lagfix recovery v. 3.0.2. Now as far as I know, I never put in a lagfix, so I have never seen this screen before. When I select the reboot option, it just gets stuck again and the voice says the previous statment once more. So what do I do from here?
From what I've read on this forum ROM Manager doesn't seem to work well with our phone. I can't speak from any experience with it, though.
The voice you heard is Linda. That's the voice you hear when voodoo lagfix is converting your partitions from the rfs filesystem to the ext4 filesystem. It sounds like something got hosed in the process of what you were doing.
Boot into voodoo recovery, disable voodoo across the board to be safe, and see if the phone boots. If not, try following my directions above to get on a stable GB ROM.
If you're able to ODIN the ROM & boot, then you can use the phone & flash other ROMs and whatnot.
If you're able to ODIN the ROM but it gets stuck in a loop or has an error, more than likely the voodoo is still enabled and this ROM can't use ext4. You would then need to ODIN one of drhonk's kernels (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032). Use the KG4 one. It comes with CWM Red, voodoo, and root.
Once you flash it you should be able to utilize the voodoo menu in CWM to enable or disable voodoo.
OKAY now I think I effed up royally.
I followed the steps, but then I tried to upgrade to ICBINB GB and now clockwork wont start. The samsung galaxy s4g logo will pop up, then it will go away. Occasionally I will get a full pixelated screen. Is there any recovery from this?!!!??
and it keeps cycling through this over and over again
If u can get to download mode ur fine...get one of the Odin leaks fo gb...put file in pda..flash...then get kj1 Drhonk kernel with voodoo...follow directions to do that...flash...should hear Linda...then, any ROM u choose to flash I'd put it directly on to ur sd...do NOT get ROM manager for anything instead goto market and get qick boot..once u do that...may the phone be with u. I'm nowhere near an expert but this saved my phones more than once.

UPDATE
I have done something (not too sure what) and have been able to get into the main phone, however I am unable to get into Clockwork because whenever I do it is just Pixelatios. I keep seeing pixelations randomly at startup. It looks like I have the ICBINB theme and stuff, but I kinda want to go back and undo this and go to my saved backup. Any advice?

[Q] CWM not working right on new MT

I'm having all kinds of trouble with my MT. I originally flashed CM7 from stock with CWM after wiping factory and cache. The flash errored out the first time, but worked the second time. The gapps install errored out so I just tried rebooting without stock google apps. The phone just booted to the Motorola logo and didn't go any farther. I let it sit for over 20 minutes and no go.
I had made a backup so I went back to CWM to restore the phone. Again, I did a factory and cache wipe, ran the restore, rebooted, but now the phone boots to Motorola logo, then reboots into CWM. So weird!
I have a theory that it has something to do with a hardware problem. When I try to flash another rom (besides cm7) the screen goes blank (no text) and then goes back to the root menu. I tried booting to CWM then plugging it in and removing the battery but after an varied amount of time the phone shuts off.
I've searched and searched and I can't find where anyone's had a problem like this and NOT been able to get the phone back. I'd like a solution, but I'd also like to know if i'm the only one who's had this problem!
thanks!
Never mind
I got it working! I tried a different battery in it and it worked! I'm not sure if it was the battery or I just did the right combination of things, but I'm glad to be back! But for anyone who is having the same issue here's what I did:
Running CWM 5.0.2.6
1. Wipe factory/cache/davlik
2. format sd card
3. shut down
4. use pc to copy stock nandroid backup from androidforums (google "stock triumph restore")
5. boot back to CWM,
6. restore the backup and reboot, should work
**IF you have md5 checksum error, use adb via usb to run these commands and immediately try to restore again:
adb shell
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2010-06-29.20.22.53
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
# exit
**Make sure to unmount the sd card before restore.
Again, I really don't know if it was battery or not, but I tried this before changing batteries and it didnt work!
But wait, there's more!
Ok, now that I'm able to get back to stock, I'm still unable to flash any custom roms. I wipe/factory reset, format /system, then install update from sd card. When I confirm the update, the screen goes blank (no text), then goes back to the main menu! It does this with any rom!
Any help?
dont think triumph is supported phone according to cwm ?

Yep, 5.0.2.6. I just tried CM7 .04 beta because I have a friend who flashed it successfully on his MT. When I ran it it said it was installing for maybe 4 seconds and then said complete. When I rebooted all I got was the Motorola logo.
I just got this phone. Is it possible that Motorola changed something with the hardware to make it not work?
I've managed to get CWM running a little more stable by replacing the boot.img file with the one from CM7, but all I get when I run the zip is this:
-- Installing /sdcard/CM7.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Install from sdcard complete.
that all takes about 6 seconds and I get just the motorola logo when I reboot.
It still goes blank (no text) when I try to flash any other rom (like stockROM) so something is definitely screwy.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I have a friend with a Triumph who successfully flashed cm7. I looked at his phone and found that the model number on his is WX345 while mine is WX435. Maybe my version really does have issues with clockwork?

I did notice that the Triumph isn't listed on Clockwork's site. It is, however, listed on xda. Maybe its not officially supported?
figured it out! It had something to do with the sd card. I was using a 16gb class 10 PNY card. I put the stock 2gb back in it and it worked like a charm. Don't know if it was a defective card or the phone/clockwork just didn't like it.
Bay PONY...Noticed that my pny class 10 16gb was slower(or just took longer to mount and search for media, cause it's bigger) than the 16gb samsung class 2 that came with my epic...Dunno; but glad to hear CWM works! now you can switch back cards
PS. what root method u use command line or gingerbreak?

I've tried both. I like the gingerbreak b/c it adds superuser app for you. Both worked fine though...
But since I installed CM7 I didn't need to root it first.
