HTC_IME is Swype capable! - HTC Sensation

Sorry if this has been posted, I searched and found nothing. Anyways, I got my phone last night and have not installed swype yet. I unlocked it today and went to reply to a text. Used to using swype on my MT4G I just started swyping on the HTC keyboard and it worked. Its Swype capable. Works pretty good, swype itself works a little better but for those of us that want HTC's keyboard for typing and swype ability now we have it!

I think you are using "trace"... HTC's version of swype.
it's not very good.
sign up for the swype beta and install it. you'll be much happier.

Called Trace, it's a start. Swype 3.0 beta is a vast improvement though.

Ah, yes, your right. I just went into settings. I didn't know about trace before. I haven't use IME in a long time. Been using swype for the last 8 months.
As I said, it works ok, has some issues. Swype is better but I hate they keyboard layout (i.e. number locations) versus IME when regular typing. I will install swype.

whats the big deal with swype

I tried it today and i have to say i like slideIT much much better. Swype looks better but i slideIT always seems to type what i am trying to say. I orginal got it on my old wm phone last year. I got it for android now and its just as good. Is there actually a benifit from swype that i am missing?

I have tried both and I'm a Swype fan over slideIT. I don't know if slideIT has recently updated, but I know Swype knows my contacts names, whereas when I tried slideIT, it did not. My wife's name is Estefanía (note the accent) and Swype gets it right every time. That itself is worth it. I also found Swype is more customizable...you can change speed/accuracy settings etc.
And yes, I think Swype is much better looking than slideIT...and while that shouldn't matter...it does.
I totally agree with @bwshockley
Swype is leaps and bounds better.. its programmable and looks much nicer..
I adjust Swype's line length down, accuracy up, pop-up box down and then it is unstoppably outstanding.

Strange. I've had the exact opposite experience. After using Swype for a few weeks I'm almost as fast with it as on my desktop keyboard. I tried SlideIT for a few hours last night and found it to be so inaccurate that I was even slower than on the stock HTC keyboard.
Everyone should use what works best for them, but if someone were to ask me for a recommendation, I'd have to steer them towards Swype. (If they ever make it legitimately available to the masses.)

yep, you MUST be missing it. SWYPE is sick. But i hate typing on phones so it is awesome, and it always picks up my words. you have to configure it as it has many settings that can alter its performance....
slideIT works with my contacts and u can add words to it also. Idk i guess its all prefrence i am just a bit annoyed that everytime i type good God pops up... nothing against god but damn of course it dose not pop up with alternative words. I messed with the settings a bit to fix it and then boom i some how add the word causr... I dont even know how i added it on accident.. i never have these issues with slideIT and slide it figures out words as u go so u can quick hit em while ur typing also i like where the alt words show up right where they do on htc and android keybord its nice.

You're probably not selecting O twice. That could be the reason why god shows up instead of good.

Go to menu>settings>language & keyboard> Swype Settings>Tutorial

ShapeWriter works for me.....

I tried and tried to get Swype to work but..... FC and trial ran out got me searching for ShapeWriter to try. I found this apk. and it works great looks much better than swype as well. I have this confirmed working on DC205 and as well with Treve's version. Just figured I would put it up there if anyone wanted it.
Thanks to all involved for all the hard work... I cannot believe the options to flash, I am giddy!
Download, unzip, copy apk to root of sdcard use file explorer to install. Have fun scribbling

Thanks for the post. I just downloaded and installed. I have been using Swype for a while and love it. Let's see how ShapeWriter compares...
ShapeWriter sucks compared to Swype. You pretty much have to hit the beginning and ending letters exactly for it to work at all. Swype doesn't require you to be nearly as accurate, which makes it far more accurate
Hey Bee saw this article yesterday and even though it leaves out a few I have seen, it covers most of the main keyboards:

Which texting method do you like best?

Which texting method do you like best? Swype, SwiftKey, or FlexT9?
Personally I loved swype when it came out, then when Swiftkey came out I liked that better and changed to that now, (the free app of the day on the amazon app store is FlextT9 so grab it today cuz it's 4.99 regularly) I started using this FlexT9 and I'm not %100 sure yet but so far I'm really liking it, Maybe even better than swiftkey, it's pretty nice, I recommend you at least try it. Like I said, today only it's free on the amazon appstore, so it won't cost you anything to give it a try.
after using it a little while here I noticed this little wierd swirly looking key at the bottom of the keyboard and I didn't know what it did so I pressed it and that makes it so you can text with your voice, and it works perfectly. I sent about 10 texts using it and it pics up what I say correctly every time. I'm definitely making a permanent change to FlexT9.
I loved using swype after I got used to it but for some reason it just got boring for me. I've been using the Gingerbread stock keyboard for months now. Love the look and the speed.
Swype. It requires some practice but done that it's great.
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
I first got swype when it first came out, I found that it worked much better on my Droid then it does on my Thunderbolt. Then I was using Better Keyboard 8 for the longest, but FlexT9 is my new favorite by far. its pretty awesome and so far I haven't had any problems. and it spell correct is the best compared to the other two also. The Better Keyboard had terrible auto correct, it was like I was drunk texting for something.
Swype always. I couldn't even stand my G2's keyboard after Swyping for over a year.

The one that gets modded and themed to match whatever is currently on my phone. Which had been mainly swype so far.
I like swype, but I ahve to admit I've never tried SwiftKey nor FlexT9. BTW, it seems like swype can be laggy sometime. Perhaps I should text out SwiftKey and FlexT9.
I like Swype, but you loose time if the word is unknown. I tried SwiftKey and 10 minutes later I already decided to purchase it from the Market. And the comming version 2 seems to be even better in predicting the next word that you want to type.
I use all 4 ways! Swipe, On screen keyboard, phyical keyboard, and voice... They all have their needs...

Swiftkey, by a long shot.. Had I known it existed prior to buying an Android phone with a physical keyboard, I would have skipped the physical keyboard altogether.. I barely ever use my physical keyboard on my Evo Shift 4G..

Keyboard Preference

I started a poll on sms preference, but I wanted to start one on keyboard too. I personally use Swift Key x. I've tried the other ones (mainly swype style key boards) and I just realize at the end of the day, I can type faster with two thumbs than dragging one. What keyboard do you guys use and what theme?
EDIT:
I use AOSP when CM7 comes out. At the end that one is my favorite.
I tried a bunch of different keyboards before settling on Smart Keyboard Pro. I just wanted a simple keyboard (no swiping, fancy predictive text that tries to guess what I'm typing, etc.) that could be themed and remove the period. That damn period was bugging me and Smart Keyboard had the option to remove it. I also like the Honeycomb theme I'm using for it.
At the moment i use SwiftKey X and i'm happy with it so far.
I use the stock one and have never tried another one. Now that I wanna try something different, I will wait a little bit to see the result of this poll.
I like the way swift key auto corrects, it does it well. Something about smart keyboard pro annoyed me. I can't remember what. I think it was something about typing smilies
Swift Key X all day in the blue neon look. Excellent sizing to the keys, great look, and great features such as the fact that if you use spacebar to automatically fill out the predicted word and then want to put punctuation, it will automatically put that punctuation up against the last word even though the cursor was spaced out one space past the last word (that was probably confusing lol).
Thumb Keyboard
Thumb Keyboard rocks! I have tried several keyboards and by far this one is the best. Granted, no swipe, but then again I'm not a big fan of the swype (I have put in the effort and am still faster with a standard qwerty). After I loaded the free version of this keyboard and trying it, I was instantly sold. It is SO easy to get used to, and the portrait mode is a one hand wonder!

Absolutely thumb keyboard is the best if you have issues with hitting the "." Button when trying to hit the spacebar, on the stock keyboard and basically every other market keyboard the spacebar is way to small, I miss my genuine swype, but nothing else compares to thumb keyboard with the blue nuance theme....

Swype does that as well, Also, why is SWYPE Beta not a choice in the poll? That's what I use and it's RAD
Swype beta I was including as swype.

Why Swype is better, way better, than SwiftKey

Since i stepped into Android, by one thing i was amazed and it was/is Swype. Then other keyboards appeared and SwiftKey X was the most popular among them. So i used it for two weeks to see how good and efficient it is then went back to Swype. Why? The video proves why.
I am on 102°F while i was typing (in fact that's the reason why i have done this video as i had nothing to do, lol), so take 30-45 seconds out from both the video.
I would like to find a more simpler article as base, but couldn't find any by simple Googling.
Regards.
PS: If already this has been done by some fellow member please pardon me, i haven't searched
I agree with you totally, imho after swype any other keyboard in android makes me sad panda =(
I actually like SwitKey better... but I use Swype. I like being able to type with one hand.
P.S. not sold on the new Swype beta - I love the prediction, but it seems to be a bit of a hog.
I am a FlexT9 man myself..
No offense, but you seem to be pretty slow at typing and I think that's why you are faster with Swype. I think it really comes down to peoples personal typing styles. I am a fast typer but end up making a decent amount of mistakes especially with the stock HTC keyboard. I recently started using the trace function on the stock keyboard on my Evo 3D (custom ICS rom though) which is basically the same thing as Swype. While I did enjoy it more than normal typing and it made me faster, I ended up correcting a lot of errors and inputting new words. I then bought Swiftkey 3 and after setting it up, fell in love. It's just a lot smarter than Swype. It's like it knows what I want to say before I even start typing. Also I love the new cobalt theme they have.
So it really depends on your personal typing styles.
I use the stock HTC keyboard, which has Swype-like "trace input" (basically a blatant clone of Swype, but IMO a nicer looking keyboard; I did install Swype before I found the option to enable trace input) and I think it is absolutely fantastic. However, on my Blackberry Playbook, the built in (and non-changeable ) keyboard is made by SwiftKey, and is apparently very similar to the Android version, only themed differently. I have to say it is quite excellent, it can often predict the next word I want to use, preventing me even having to type some words at all, and at times only makes me type the first letter or two before it guesses. Main reason I haven't tried it on Android is because it costs, and I am perfectly happy with the HTC keyboard, which is free.
If there was some amalgamation between Swype and SwiftKey, with the swyping of Swype and the prediction of SwiftKey, it would undoubtedly be my keyboard of choice.
Stock ICS keyboard FTW!
I prefer the one handed operation of Swype 3.25. Swiftkey has been ruined. I used to use it and its pumpkin theme because it disabled the keypress pop up. Now it's in every theme. And there is still no dedicated enter key.
The new Swype sucks, after nuance bought them out. I hate the mandatory Swype connect process that runs, the large footprint, etc.. 3.25 is probably the last acceptable version. If anyone has apk's of builds produced after 3.25, please post them as I'd love to try them out.
Also if anyone has a stock ics keyboard apk that was pulled from a ROM, not the market version, post that too please.

I did notice that and consider it, but to be honest, the screen on my phone is a bit cramped for "proper" typing, so I decided to stick with my HTC trace input. I'd probably only go for SwiftKey if it added a swype/trace like function.

I have used lots of keyboards of every type and I always come back to Swype. I like Swiftkey's prediction but I've had tough life with predictions. And anyway, my main concern is the speed which Swype most definitely provides me. It depends on your typing habits and screen size, of course.

I always liked ai type until I tried the SwiftKey beta. My only wish is that SwiftKey would do voice to text like Ai type does using the ics real time transcription rather than the old one. I never liked swype mainly because I drive for a living so my use case makes it tough to swype and drive. Much easier to peck but even easier still to speak.
