[GUIDE] Wallpaper-Template (Stock Launcher + LP) [UPDATE: 30-Jun-2011] - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Hey there
Since it seems kinda hard to get your wallpaper not cropped, I made a template just for the TF (Stock Launcher)^^
The whole wallpaper has to be 2048x1504, even thought your homescreen will only show 1368x804 of the whole wallpaper...
Your wallpaper has to contain a section you will never see (top: 123px, bottom 175px)
And to on the left & right side 20px you will only see through the bounce-effect.
If the template is not enough I can write some guide for making wallpapers, too
Good luck ;D
UPDATE 27-Jun-2011:
Added new/updated templates:
Stock - 2048x1504
Stock - 1917x1408
Launcher Pro - 1700x1358
UPDATE 30-Jun-2011:
New Template for portrait mode - 2048x1504
So.. about the resolution thing... the transformer resizes the wallpapers to 1920x1408... so speaking of "sharpness" it doesnt matter if you make it 2048x1504 or 1920x1408 (template is still 1917... I mean... 3 pixels <.<)
The only thing that matters is what you want to see... if you got a bigger picture you want to see, take the higher resolution and the transformer will scale it down to 1920x1408 by itself.
Going to rewrite the guide for both resolutions tomorrow (if i have time to..)

*suggestion: maybe you can make us wallpapers, like make a wallpaper thread just for the TF.. just saying. / other than that, thanks for the template
Sent from GadgetViews.... Rockin Evo CM7 Nightlies.

the problem with making wallpapers is that I dont know what exactly you want to see on your homescreen
sure, if someone needs help I can build the wallpaper for him, its easy with wallpapers bigger than 2048x1504, but it gets kinda tricky if the wallpaper is smaller then you have to add custom borders to each site so the pic you want to see is in the center.
If you are ok with black borders around the pic, then thats no problem too, but if you dont want a black frame around the pic, it's a lot of harder to make it fit and look good
So if you can't get it done yourself, just ask If I got time to spare I'll help you out.

thanks for the template!
maybe someone should just make a wallpaper thread and we can all post ones that work nicely in it.
if no one makes one before i get around to making some wallpapers, i'll do it

2048x1504px
I was using 1920x1408 which seems to work perfect for me, I even checked if it gets resized using a 2x2px grid - strange.
greetz

I'm using Gimp for Windows, if anyone is wondering what app can be used too edit or resize a wallpaper.
GIMP FOR WINDOWS
I think this is the longest i have spent trying to apply a *^(%^(^%(^ wallpaper on anything and cant figure it out.
Using wallpaper wizardrii, isn't helping.
Holding the tablet horizontal 99% of the time, gives me short, not long enough, views of the wallpaper
I've tried the dimension up top in every way possible lol
H (2048) x W (1504)
also
W (2048) x H (2048)
I can take screen shots but im about too see if this tablet can/will be a true transformer out the window

yeah other resolutions should be okay as well but it seems like 2048x1504 is a good resolution if you want a pretty sharp picture

LP plus with auto-rotate

The original Asus tree wallpaper that was ripped from a TF was 2135 x 1408 pixels. I see that your dimensions are slightly different. Are you saying that the original had less/extra information in it than was necessary, or just that 2048 x 1504 looks good enough onscreen not to need to make it precisely like the original please?

Ah ok.. havent tried LP but i've heard that wallpapers behave different on ADW and LP, I'll test it myself later.

The resolution I use was mentioned in the Home Screen Thread and its working flawless. If you for example take my template and set it as your wallpaper, you will see that the crop-selection fills the whole pic. Even thought the crop-lines shown, arent the real ones you will have after the cut (Mine are the real ones.. )
the problem with 2135x1408 is that when you crop it, there is a part which is not in the crop-selection-field.. so you wont get 2135x1408, but 1917x1408 and your center screen will be about 1280x753... maybe they did it because display resolution is 1280x800.. but yeah they got 1280 with their version and we got x804 with mine maybe I should "optimize" it to x800 ;D

Ok cheers for the info.

So here is a first version of the launcherpro template
pic size is 1700x1358
homescreen is 1362x800
still trying to figure out whats the best resolution for the homescreen area...
EDIT:
see first post

sweet will try this..i am amking them @ 1920x1408

updated first post =)
if somebody still has problems just feel free to ask

So is there a special way to put these wallpapers into my Transformer (rooted) or do I just stick them in my SD?

Put them on the internal or external sd, long tap the homescreen, choose wallpapers, then gallery and search for your picture last you have to resize the crop-thing to cover the whole screen. at least thats the way for the stock launcher

Can someone resize this pic for me please, to have the better fit possible ?

Resized and added a black border.. should not be seen in use
Okay like that?

Thx, but definition image is blurry now
My original is 1680*1050, and you made 2048*1504 with my picture, the stretching modification render is not sharp now...
Picture resolution must be 1368x804 ? (with a little crop, to keep original ratio if necessary)
So can you make a picture with this resolution 1368x804
After resizing my picture, can you center it in your template, with black color surrounding in non-shown parts ?

Port Request :)

Is there a way to have this ported to the Hero? These are the best icons I have seen in Android so far (imho)
Mayb with some resizing the icons can b used in one of the roms 4 the hero
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Well afaik the icons are changed by changing the apk and resigning. I don't know how to change the icons in the apk or resign, so I don't know how to do this... if someone were to do this, they could just make it a flashable zip to change the icons on almost any ROM (with the apps)
could ask him. Konib used to dev for the Hero
It would look better and take way less time if you either asked konib to do it or asked to have his originals so you could port it. Resizing indexed .pngs from higher resolution to lower resolution makes them look like crap. (not all but a lot of them)

How can you say its not even close to being true when Im sitting here staring at a GPS icon I took from the Droid X resized it to 25x25 and there are a few pixels that are out of place? Unless I'm doing it wrong... even then its still close to being right. And how can porting a theme from a higher res theme not be time consuming?

You're right. Theres no argument about the the depreciation of images when resizing. They get compressed. Its not a matter of opinion, or conjecture, its fact. If you are able to refute this, let me know.
Well to correct everyone, resizing will remove some of the clarity of the image. Scaling the image down will preserve the clarity to do this we start with a 38x38 image create a new blank 25x25 and paste the image in, then use transform to shrink the image down. This actually scales the full image to size. That is for photoshop . Fireworks also can accomplish this very well . This is just my experience after 7 years of PhotoShop

Metamorph please I have better luck with them not messing with any of my other mods.
I did what I could for now. I will make both a flashable zip and a metamorph theme. I haven't made a metamorph theme since they changed the program, but I should have something up either tonight or in the morning. And I am putting the icons in both the HTC apps(HTC dialer, mail, messaging) as well as the AOSP apps, because I am not sure who uses what.

30 Good Evo Wallpapers

Hey I went through and resized 30 wallpapers for the evo that I use on my phone. Hope you all enjoy.
Post some screen shots of you rocking the wallpapers if you want so we can all see.
Enjoy =)
Thanks! I'll post some screen shots soon
These are the ones I like most
Those look nice. Yeah that last one is one of my favorites. along with the stones one. it looks really good with all white text.
Hell yeah! This is freaking nice wallpapers too, none of those cheap ones!
Thanks, OP!
Your welcome. If I had more time I'd find more to resize.

nvm
Oooo I'm downloading that man. It looks good. My Fiance will want it on her evo for sure.

Ok I'm hearing mixed views now so I'm confused.
All the tech sites say the evo resolution is 800x480 so I sized my wallpapers accordingly.
But I have someone say the resolution is 960x800. Which is true? I really didn't think the later is true because the official sites aren't saying it's that res.
pretty sure its 800x480
Anyways.. why is such a pain to set wallpapers. You shouldnt need to resize the wallpaper. Everytime i try to set a picture as wallpaper.. it makes me crop it and It never looks right.

Hello all. I have compared the two sizes on a few evos by making wallpaper in both sizes. When you resize wallpapers at 960x800 it will look/be hi-res no questions asked. OTOH 800x480 is display resolution this DOES NOT equate to wallpaper size. Its definitely not wallpaper size.
I kinda like the argyle ones, but they're a bit too much for me personally.
I am trying out the following though.

Thanks a bunch! Found a handful of them I like.
I'm glad people are liking them even though I guess they are the wrong resolution.
When I find some more that I like I'll make some in a better resolution and put more up.
I found these on deviant art. So if anyone sees any they like let me know and I'll check em out and add them to the list for you guys.

no body interested for doing it on tab?
is tab HDPI or MDPI?
im using the MDPI ones but i still have gap between picture
i already use 5 row icon for launcher pro, but still 6 row actually to get the picture aligned quite right
i also set the lcd density back to 240 otherwise the picture is much smaller >.<
and i'm a total noob using the photoshop
who knows there's some tab owner here interested in this and posted their own icons for share
i upload mine, using the MDPI ones
still on trial basis, but thats how it looks
get desktop visualizer from the market and you can do it how ever you want
already know bout that, and i already follow the guidance on the link
i just thought it would be fun if a lot of tab user like the appearance and starting to make the icons on their own, so that ppl who's incompetent with creativity and photoshop like me can enjoy other's creativity too ^^
i already got some though from that forum
Lol that looks interesting.
Btw the tab is a hdpi device.
ah, i see
i'll try to scrap from HDPI forum then hehe
thanks
You'll need more rows/columns with LP/ADW. Ill have a go at it in a bit to find the right layout needed.
Sent from my GT-P1000
seriously?
since almost all of them is using 4 column definitely, and not more than 6 as i recall coz most of them is using 4" smartphone
4 column being 3x1 and 1x2
but sure, give it a go
would love to get another input from another tab user hehe
what i'm curious is about getting unread number on text or mail or phone
already get the signed apk, but since it was originally for hero and friends, the ppi and the res and the blablabla is not correct when i installed it in tab, ended up in 1x1 widget when its supposed to be 1x2 on their phone
i think its awesome ... and works fairly well
my lock screen and 5 screen dock
Nice ^^
how to customize the lock screen though? never knew how ^^
so you make your own icons using that .psd given?
willing to share your icons? hehe

thats why i'm starting this thread so that more tab user making them and some willing to share their work, and i download it, for a mix and match
i'm grabbing some already from the original forum, but still i dont have all the needed icon like angry bird above or other games
maybe its a disgusting habit, but hey, thats all i can do for now ^^
as natious said .. its widget locker .. seems to be okay for me although i'm not trying to do anything to fancy with it
got most of my icons from the android forums in this thread

They also have the psd files to make your own
oh, i guess i havent got to the last page then ^^ thanks
i know bout the psd files, but i really dont know bout photoshop, so its kinda useless for me
i'm guessing you're making it on your own coz their psd is 3x1 and 1x2 while some of your icon looks like 2x2

[Q] Why are my custom wallpapers so pixely and crappy?!? --- RESOLVED

i've noticed that the wallpapers i make for the xoom are severely pixelated. i've tried searching around for a possible fix or even an explanation, but haven't come across one. anyone got some insight on this?
Its to do with needing to fill the screen in portrait so they need to be 1280 high by 800 + extas for screen scroll.
Not sure what the actual value is though for width.

[Q] LauncherPro Size for the Sensation

Hi, this is my first post so be kind
Im going to be buying a Sensation very soon, and will be using LauncherPro
I know that on WVGA phones, the size of the dock is 480*84, I was wondering if anyone knew (or could find out for me) the size to make it a perfect fit on the Sensations QHD screen?
I can find out when I get the phone, but it would be useful to know now so i can begin creating docks.
Any help would be good, thanks!
I use launcherpro on my sensation and u used the docks I had on my hd2 and u made no changes to them. They work well. I'm using coredroid 2.3.4
Thanks, im guessing that LP scales the image up, so the chances are that 540*94.5 (awkward size) will fit perfectly.
Yep, LP sizes the dock up automatically
