[Q] Lossless audio Flac support for htc sensation? - HTC Sensation

is there an app that would allow me to play lossless audio like flac? if not.. what format should i convert it to in order to maintain that quality?
or would wave.. be the only option to keep that quality?

PowerAMP is the only player I've encountered that can play FLAC, and the poor UI stops me from using it https://market.android.com/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&feature=related_apps
Once we're rooted though, I'm told Cyanogenmod builds in FLAC support. Android 3.1 is the first version to officially build it in.

Poor UI ? Really ?
I say PowerAmp is THE music app. Fully customizable EQ, flac support and much, much more. I have used it for over a year now and love it. Never listen to someone that says someone else told them. (quoted poster)

Sorry, can't root my HTC Sensation so I can't confirm .

The app andLess plays flac. Free, simple interface, nothing fancy, but works.

Just came across another option listed in a different thread. AudioGalaxy is free, plays flac, and allows streaming all your music from your PC to your phone. I just set it up and it's very cool. Worth checking out.

I had a moment and found the discussion I had read previously regarding FLAC support in Cyanogenmod. It's there, as long as your FLAC files are 16-bit.

What's the best MP3 player?

My biggest problem with Windows Media and HTC Audio manager is the lack of an equalizer... my JBL noise-canceling headphones need just a touch of treble boost to be perfect.
I've been using CorePlayer... it seems like overkill for just music.
Is there a better one I don't know of? Maybe a bit of visualization would be nice... but an equalizer and good playback are the priorities (currently having a bit of a problem with occasional skips on playback in all three players mentioned above).
What's everybody else using? Ideally I'd like something able to interact with the HTC Home music tab and the HTC W100 (I'm thinking about getting one).
Also, I was excited to find out about the HTC system-level equalizer. I guess it has problems with WMP but I couldn't seem to make it have an effect on any playback at all. Does it not work with the Kaiser/Tilt?

1. CP is one of the best players CPU usage-wise, particularly if you use non-hardware (!!) equalizers.
2. not all HTC models are supported by the HTC Equalizer, as has also been pointed out in my related article. (And, in addition, it forgets its settings when a new song is started, unless you use a gapless player.)
3. I'll soon publish the Multimedia Bible. In there, I give you all a FULL picture of multimedia apps.

Looking forward to it! Any insight into my skipping problem?
It'd be great it the bible could also detail the pros and cons of the W100! I mainly like it for the microphone... have to remove my current adapter to answer a call... but I otherwise like my current one. It allows you to charge (or sync) while listening.
I love MortPlayer. It's got an equalizer and is skinnable. There is also a Today plugin (also skinnable).
I use it mostly for audiobooks in mp3 format. It can go to background when playing music and as far as I know it is still free. It supports a variety of media formats via plugins that can be added as needed. Highly configurable, it does do file association and what I like most, it has a sleep timer/alarm to music.
HI,
I am using full version of core player.
Its starts slowly and begins palying htc demo.
Then if asked to scan sd card it freezes. But if it scans individual folders, it performs fine. Can there be any file in the sd card that makes it freeze.
Will try Tcmp to see if it works.
I tried PocketMusic, TCPMP and Pocket Player. To me PocketPlayer has the best features, great sound quality and the new versions run without problems.

I think GS player is the best MP3, radio, and streaming audio player out there. it's a small app, doesn't consume memory, skinnable, equallizer, surround sound, echo, bass boost, many more options, and best of all....free!

Real DSP code for EQ. Studio-quality reverb. Useful crossfeed (for headphone listening). You won't find any of that anywhere else - I don't mean toy implementations. Starts in one second with 1500 files ready to go: mp3, m4a (aac and alac), flac, wma. Perfectly gapless playback of live tracks for lame- and itunes-encoded mp3 and m4a (aac and alac), flac, and lossless wma. Perfectly gapless means absolutely no notice of the track change. Runs acceptably with all effects (reverb, eq, whatever) on a 170 MHz OMAP 730. Runs on a PXA310 at the lowest speed (speed step). Any display size, from 176x220 to 800x480. So on, and so forth. And it works on 2003 up to WM6; SP/WMStd, too.
Pics are probably temporary (nevermind the xp covers; the same on WM). There are a couple of movies available, too.

GSPlayer is pretty cool, but its CPU usage isn't very good and lacks a lot of important features (AVRCP, really good reverb etc.)

Yes. Both screenshots are from the Conduits Pocket Player. The 1st is my version of a skin by Jimmer (posted at the conduits website) and the second is the new content browser with album art support available in v3.5. Strange you couldn't see it at their website. I just checked and they show it in the animated screenshots.

There is one option that I know of: AndLess, but only if you use an image file with a Cuesheet. Meridian also supports Cuesheets, but I haven't been able to achieve gapless here. I think that Meridian inherited the code from AndLess, and AndLess hasn't been developed since March 2010.
But: Rockbox is on it's way. And that has gapless and more features otherwise than even most hardware MP3 players. But it is early days yet. The current version works, but on my phone the playback stutters. I don't know if the problem is specific for my phone, which is a HTC Tattoo.

When I had an Android phone I bought Power Amp, that app ruled, it played any audio I threw at it, well worth the money. For video I use Dice Player on the A700, and that also supports FLAC.
Okay together with the guy from BubbleUPNP we found out that the default player crashes with an unknown exception. I rooted my tablet and deleted some apps. Maybe I deleted to much. Does anyone knows what is needed to play flac.?

Thanks to the BubbleUPNP Support I have following information for peolpe who may have the same problems.
I noticed that some FLAC files do play and some don't.
These flacs do not play on Android because they are non-Subset FLACs, a variety of FLAC that
may not play by all decoders.
I've created an issue for Google to hopefully add support for them:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35348
Short explanation: these FLACs where probably encoded with the --lax option of the FLAC encoder.

EDIT: how can I mark the thread as solved?

I have the same problem. I head read somewhere else that it was the inclusion of ID3 tags that caused them to not play but I removed the ID3 tags and they still didn't play. I hope that Google resolves the issue in one of the next updates.

Apollo Music Player?

Does anyone have the apk for it that has been tested to work with 4.4? And with apollo player having flac playback, is it native? Or is it like google play music in which it just down samples it to 320kbps upon playing?

Download any cyanogenmod build for any xHDPI device and extract the apk from system/app inside the ZIP for it.
Then remove the zip because it is obsolete.

Sure thing! h ttps://f-droid.org/
For those that have it, have you tested flacs on it? Do they play natively with no down sampling? This is my biggest concern; there just doesn't seem to be any elegant solution for playing flacs right now. Poweramp and winamp are clunky and heavy to say the least, and andLess is so bare bones and lacks a lot of features compared to Apollo.

Thanks for directing my towards Shuttle. It has all I was looking for in a music player. I encourage everybody to try it.
It handles 4.4.1 without a problem on my Nexus 5. Widget background colour and transparency are customisable, buttons can be dark or light to fit your wallpaper. There are themes and lots of settings. Even though free version is all I need I'm going to buy Shuttle+ as a token of my appreciation to developers hard work.

[Feature Request] Equalizer

Hello, Im new to android and new to MX Player as well. When I first use this app I did not regard it as usefull, but after sometime I again download it and try to compare with other Video player and atlast I got my favurite Video Player.
Anyway, thanks for developing such a wonderful and powerfull video player. May I request one feature which I regard it as very usefull for watching movie with good sound quality. I mean including Equalizer in MX Player in coming version.
Thanks.

It's already in the Feature Requests list. Always check there before making a request.
Two years later, will there ever be an equalizer for MX ?
FYI, I'm a willing buyer as soon as an equalizer is confirmed. I'm hearing impaired and without setting the frequencies I can't use the MX properly.

Same here! I do like this MX player, but I miss the VLC equalizer.
The nice thing about the VLC equalizer is, that it has a wide range, and 10 bands.
You can amplify frequencies up to 20dB. Many equalizers only go up and down 10 dB.
Nice about the MX player is that you can do a lot of adjusting to the way subtitles are displayed.

I have tried some of the equalizers like equalizer fx. Everything is working on my two test devices running on Marshmallow. Only thing is you have to ensure that the app is not suppose to be killed for battery optimization.
Yes it may some time inconsistent since the latest android devices doesn't provide option to select the default audio fx app. It might be the reason why the developers has stopped developing Universal audio processing apps.
10band equalizer will be great for audio geeks....
I will ask the MX Player developer about his plan for equalizer & update the status if any.

It also interfered with the EQ that's built into Poweramp.

BTW, had a interaction with @bleu8888. FYI, equalizer is planned for 1.10. He is in a process to finalizing 1.9.0 & working on some other features. Once 1.9.0 is finalized to all android 4.0 users he may take up other pending features like Equalizer, Chromecast for 1.10.
