Is anybody working on a root for the EVO SHIFT 4g, I mean as in running Gingerbread? Temp Root solution at least???? I'm slowly dying ever since I mistakenly updated.
I sure hope so. I did the same thing.
If you need tethering, just use PDAnet. Works well and it is free.

I finally got sick of the bloat and rooted it. I used The tutorial from here:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/26/universal-android-rooting-procedure-rage-method/
In the tutorial download file I substituted with the new version of the superuser.apk and su from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
All you need to do is substitute the superuser.apk(system/app) and su(system/bin) the rest of the folders/files are not needed. This method worked 1st try, you just have to be very cautious and type everything exact.
Thought I would share for those that like to do things manually Now on to de-bloating, anyone know of a good list of apps that are safe to remove? So far i just got rid of cityid and infoalarm.apk(daily briefing).
Or you could install z4Root from the Market...

Yeah, that happens sometimes. I don't know why. That's one reason that I like SOC better. That and I can see what's going on.
Question. If/when I Jack up my phone, and it needs to go in, is there a way to restore the Mez to it's original bloated glory? Thanks in advance

You can tether without rooting with the stock wireless modem app unless you just don't want to use that one. Saving apps to the sdcard won't come until Q1 2011 with the 2.2 update.
Welcome to the forums. Good to have another Mesmerize user!

Since you are in the Rooting the Mesmerize thread, have you gotten the phone rooted? Next, if so have you gotten Clockworkmod installed correctly? That is in a different thread?
Just trying to get background info to know where to start the help. I definitely don't mind helping.

You're supposed to, however. I have talked to several us cellular employees and they cannot tell if you use it or not. If you go over your 5 gigs, they'll assume and charge you. I've been using it and have not had anything said to me.
Can my phone get bricked from using z4root?
These phones are hard to brick permanently, i have not used z4root but it seems there has been lots of testing with it and I havnt read of anyone bricking from it.

i'm working on that now. says its rooting but dont do nothing. rebooted a couple times and still no go
It only works if you have downgraded your ROM to the DHD rom first.
Ok will see what transpires with this thing. Hopefully things move along like the captivate forums.

Just wondering because it's a pain for me to get to a computer and download the stuff I need. My computer caught fire and I have to get another and I don't like asking people to use their laptops so I can download things.

You need a pc to run the fastboot commands...don't see if ever happening.
Sent From My Evo
What do you mean? There is a one-click method for the Evo. I understand I'd need a pc but if I can download one file and do a one click unlock and root it would be awesome. One file to complete the whole process. It wouldn't be a pain to borrow a laptop from someone to download one thing.
If I root now I have to download SDK, this & that. I moved so I don't live that close to my friends. I only have an iPad and Xoom as my source of internet.
I think for a one click we would need the source code to honeycomb
sent from my Motorola XOOM
Personally I wouldn't want to one click the xoom, I learned a lot about the xoom while trying to root it and I now feel comfortable tinkering with it as a result. I wanted one click with my cell but at 600 bucks I want to know what makes the xoom tick and be knowledgeable enough to restore it if I need to. The root methods available now aren't difficult at all.

This is for 3.0, but it's one-click unlock, root, unroot, and relock.

Its relativly easy to make a one click mthod and the old one just needs the rigt images put in the right place, all the commands are the same.

I must have read it wrong then, i thought you were having problems getting a computer. The way i read it, you were looking for a one-click method to run from your xoom. Sorry, if i would have read it right, i would have answer correctly. There is currently no way to one click root 3.1. In all honesty i hope one never comes. I understand your problem, but people need to learn to do things. One clicks are the reason we have 762 threads that start with "bricked".

I was successful rooting with this method. I have rooted two thunderbolts. I downloaded the instructions.pdf and just followed that.
Didn't work well
It didn't work well when I tried it. It doesn't take much more effort once you have ADB setup to do the manual method. Really it is quite easy to manually root.
Yeah I root using and... But my bro lives 200 miles away ... And he wants to root but his not so good with computers any other ways ... I look at adb for dummies.... And sets every thing up auto.... Will it work okay ... Or any other options..
sent from my rooted tbolt using XDA app
I rooted my OG Droid and my Droid X the manual way, so I had a bit of knowledge before hand so I'm not sure how much help this will be, but I did use the three step method on my thunderbolt and it worked perfectly. All it does is exactly what you would do the manual way, except its automated. You still have to go to recovery and flash the software as normal, though, so you may need to walk him through it. The pdf really does help, though.

Try google, or my signature, or glevitans sig., perhaps if banagranola shows up, you could try hers. To add some spice we could just hope guyinthecorner comes over, but he rarely comes to this side of the force. There, now that yoi have read some nonsense, once you try any of the above suggestions, you can use an ubuntu live cd to root your ohone with ace advance h.k. I wonder who else has the thread in their sig? Sashank? Muikkuman? I don't know, I rarely log on from my pc. Now I wonder if that fella found the answer among all this nonsense

I'm feeling nice (from the holidays I suppose) so:
TLDR; use a Linux (probably Ubuntu) LiveCD. AAHK runs great on it.

HA...we are all here. Yeah use a liveCD (UBUNTU) 32bits version. That works great, much better than windows...and there is no need to install anything. Just boot from the CD and you are done.
