I have been unable to find where the file is and remove it to free up memory. Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance!!!
sdcard/gameloft/games/nova
Thank you very much...
sure thing. Hey if you delete the file, does the game ask if you want to re down load it?
yes it will ask again.
What is the file for? Can you play the game without downloading it?
Is there a special app that is needed to remove the download? Could not find the "SDcard/Gameloft/Games/Nova" file via settings.
Thanks!
You need a file manager app.
My favorite is Astro (free from market). Others are Linda, File Manager, etc.
It's like using explorer on a PC or finder on a Mac.

Which is the best file manager on Android platform? Now I use the eFile app, but it has some deficiency (cannot write/delete root files, strange way of sorting the files, etc.). I've tried at least 15 file manager apps, but I haven't find yet the best. I need basic file handling (copy, move, etc), unzip/zip, unrar, modify on root, small size (yeah, X8 with 200 MB phone memory). So which is the best?
Have you tried androzip? It's great for archiving tasks. I'm using it in conjunction with astro.
Root explorer is what you need if you want total control over your entire file system.
There are .apk around here somewhere.
I use ES File Explorer, it knows everything (maybe except unrar) and it's free. You can set it to be a root explorer and you can mount the partitions from within the app

astro file manger for me simple and sweet
Hi, i'm also the ES file explorer its free and great!

I've tried androzip, ES and Astro, but they cannot extract rar files. This is very important for my work, I always receive emails with rar attachment ( rar is the official compression method in my company)
I've no experience with root explorer, but i will try it

Use unrar Or unrar pro.

Androzip can extract rar files, sorry. But cant modify root files

I love ES File Explorer. It is best for me, to manage files from my computer over W-LAN.
Aksi sometimes i am using Root Explorer.
I would recommend Astro File Manager.
Another vote for Root Explorer.

+1, for all your files' needs
for navigating to my sd card and installing apps I use Astro File Manager, and for system management, permissions... creating folders etc.. I use Root Explorer.
I've tried a few but I use ES File Explorer. Just my preference to manage files with. Well I use that and AndroZip of something needs decompressing. Is root explorer just for your root folder for your phone or does it have access to all.folders? Probably a silly question.

Yes. It gives you access to everything. When in root folder just scroll down to/sdcard/ to access your sd card contents.
Definately Astro for me
I am using Astro file manager looking in /data and it is empty. I checked to make sure I can see hidden files (.file) I am looking in the folder from phone not sd card. I even tried to search for the specific file but it did not exist. The file I am looking for is "com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk" When the search completed it only found the backup of these files, not the ones that are currently being used.
I am still very new at this, so I'm sure it is operator error at some point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can use Astro to do this. You're going to have to use something like Root Explorer.
That was the problem, Astro does not allow access to the system files.
Super Manager is free in the market and solved the issue. Thanks!

Howdy all.
I was looking today to transfer an apk to my friend but unfortunately I don't know where they are stored. I tried to send him Linda file manager through the Share this app via the Market but you actually need data for that option. So I was considering to locate the corresponding .apk and transfer it via Bluetooth but no luck.
Can we do it this way?
TIA

I installed App backup & reinstall and it saves apps as apk files. There is probably another way, but this worked for me

If you have a file manager app such as root explorer just go to your data/app folder (its in the root directory of your phone) and all the Apps you've installed should be in there

How might I get the ipk files for apps I download from the Market, to back them up on my computer? I know how to install an ipk with Astro File Manager and would like to retain current versions of my apps in case I update an app and do not like the update.
I am interested in all methods. Can I extract the ipks from my Sensation somehow (preferred if possible)? Download from websites (if there are good websites collecting ipks)? I would consider using a pirate website (if I have to resort to that), as I am not a pirate if I get the apps in the Market first.
Thanks

Hi,
If I were you ,I would not mention anything to do with piracy in these forums...
Do you mean apk.?
I use a great program called ROM CLEANER
It has an apk. backup, which stores all your apk. files on your sd card.
These could then be stored on your PC.

If you are rooted, use root explorer or similar and you can copy/paste them from the system/app folder to your SD card then transfer them to your PC.

I have not yet rooted, but plan to do so. However, I viewed this directory with Astro File Manager and do not see the apks for the items I got from the market. I see a bunch of standard apps that came with the phone.

That is actually not my preferred way of doing it, because I may not get the same version as the one I get from the Market.

This seems to have a complicated install. Are there any apps to do the task? (OK for them to require root, as I plan to do that.)
appSaver usually does the job.
you mean apk? ipk is webos! I use the backup function in astro file manager and just copy the folder it creates to my pc

Yes, i mean apk. I found Astro File Manager will back up applications as .apk. But it's help says it will only do apps marked as public, not private and that most paid apps are private. Will File Expert and Linda backup private apps?
Apps that are on the system when you get the rom are stored in \system\app apps you install or download from the market are stored in \data\apps. I use root explorer to copy them to SD card then on to my PC.

EDIT Sorry, i meant data/app
Hi. I just found out that apk files are kept in the device after installation of the app.
I just recently downloaded a file explorer app and I found out that the apk files of the free games which I downloaded and installed from android market are kept in this folder:
/mnt/asec (I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace)
There are individual folders for each game, and in each folder are a lib folder and the apk file. For example:
Fruit Ninja folder (which is found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
Fruit Slice folder (which is also found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
My question is, is it ok to delete these apk files? Will the games still work?
Also, can I send these apk files to someone else via bluetooth so they may download the apps without having to visit android market?
yeah you can delete the apk file after installing any app for it to still function, I do it all the time. Yes you can send the apk file to your friend so they can install it. If you're still cautious, try doing a trial run with one apk file...send it to your friend first, then delete, see if it works.
The .apk files are like setup files for windows. Once installed, you don't need the apk, especially if you are backing up with Titanium or similar backup program.
follow up question
Hi. Thanks guys.
Is everything from the android market ".apk"? Is it possible that some have a different extension? I downloaded a dictionary app, I can't be sure but I think it's a .zip file.
Thank you.
pakattack
I tried to delete the apk file. It cannot be deleted.
However, I copied it to my sd card, uninstalled the app, re-installed it using the one already in my sdcard, and it installed just fine.
I still want to be able to delete the apk file that is in the system though (/mnt/asec).
Any ideas or do I just have to deal with it?

I agree with deleting it won't be a problem but sending to a friend?
sometimes I think there would be a message stating that its not sign

WillShaka, like I said, I tried to delete it. I can't. Not allowed.
I don't know why. I'm using ES File explorer
not sure if this works but have you tried unmounting the sd and delete?

Also, and I don't mean to veer out of topic (this question is often ignored in Q&A forum), if I use Odin to upgrade my stock firmware instead of using Kies, will it erase all my data? I have a feeling it will...

Yes, you can delete the APK after installation. But the APKs in /system/app/ need to stay where they are to function appropriately

I use the All-In-One Toolbox app to automatically find and delete all .apk files. It also has an automatic backup and restore function for apps.
