G2x is it possible to restore Wifi calling app (kineto) from stock rom after CM7 ? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I have stock 2.2 on my G2x and want to install CM7, the only app I care about (and reason I switched to T-mobile) is wifi calling (UMA). If I adb pull /system/app/kineto.apk from the phone, install cm7, and push the apk back to the phone will it work ? Do I need to pull any libs from /system/libs/ ? I read on some thread that wifi calling after cm7 does not work, so I want to make sure before I root and mod my phone. I also downloaded the gingerbread leak version of the kineto.apk just in case the stock (2.2) one does not work... But if someone can please confirm that this process works I can root/mod this puppy PDQ.
Thanks a ton for your help.

I'm confused...is the wifi calling app even necessary? Even with the app uninstalled (or frozen), I just connect to wifi and then dial a phone number and my calls connect. So what's the purpose of this app that runs 24 hours a day?

The wifi calling (UMA) app allows you to make calls over T-mobile network by using a WIFI even if you have no signal, this is similar to the ATT femtocell calling. The app needs to be running inorder for you to make wifi only calls using T-mobile network. T-mobile supports UMA calling and no other carrier does.

CM7 comes preloaded with WiFi Calling installed. What is the issue here?
BTW, the app only turns on and activates IF turned on and WHEN wifi is enabled. If WiFi is off, so is WiFi Calling. It has been prebuilt into CM7 for over a month. It made its way into CM7 in one of the earlier builds (#13 I think).
I have the latest CM7#58 and I use WiFi Calling all the time while at work. Make sure you grab some signal before activating as it has to communicate to the cell towers to activate the app.

player911, thanks a ton I did not know that CM7 comes preloaded with wifi calling app... I will be rooting and modding my phone today! Bye Bye stock POS 2.2... Hello CM7

This is correct.
However, the little notification will ALWAYS say "Wi-fi calling uses plan minutes", at least for me. I verified with Tmo that I had free wi-fi calling on my account, and the rep said "it's a known issue, the notification is wrong, don't worry about it".

[Q] Can wifi calling be ported?

I know this had been touched upon in here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791372) but once the new G2 update is released there should be an app for wifi calling. Do you think this will be capable of porting to use with Verizon?

this would be sweet.
I agree using WiFi and Google voice I would like. In fact should I find something and verify its working on my phone i will post some links.
Sent from my Droid Incredible.
we can use skype on our phones, but thats still an extra fee, and it won't use the numbers we already have, we have to get a skype number.
you would think the cell carriers wouldn't mind wifi calling since it frees up their towers.
In the market there's an app called GV dialer. it works with Google voice (i think). You make a phone call, Google intersepts the call then calls the # dialed and your number to connect you. No minutes used, all internet. Even gives you your own # that you could receive calls on your phone. I've been using it for about 6 months now.
N1 users are interested as well. They have T-Mobile too, though. Hopefully when it gets ported over we can find a way to use it.
Here's the link over to the N1 forum on it. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806746)
This is something that must be done.

[Devs] Lets get Wifi Calling working on these custom ROMs,

I require this since i have low signal at my house and rely on the Wifi Calling app, and i'm sure i'm not alone. I'm devoting this thread to this. JBoogie, i've been told you're the man with the skills here, so if i can help in any way let me know.
Agreed! I've asked more and more, but I haven't gotten an answer - I've no signal in my dorm, where I live! And i need wifi calling

Guys none of them have it. But there was an apk put up.somewhere. you should ask jboogie3 to help you with making a zip file so that you can flash it on any rom.

Side question.. does anybody know of which SBFs contain wifi calling?
Wifi calling? Wifi can access moible network? Or do you mean VOIP?
Maybe should turn to your carrier. And ask them whether they can supply sets like femtocell.
in defy cm7 2.3.5...voip calls works..inbound/outbound..you just need to have a active SIP line to apply in the internet calling accts.
as long as you have a data/wifi active & connected your defy-its magic.
tried it myself & used a SIP acct..works great on overseas intl calls too..
I assume that everyone is talking about the Kineto UMA app that is being introduced on some of the ?Orange branded roms ?
There is a good thread here on XDA which has the Kineto android app, but it looks like it depends on other dependancies which need to be built into a custom rom.
Will be watching this thread with interest though.

In the US, T-Mobile provides WiFi Calling free for its customers. Another benefit is people can call your mobile phone number
If someone using a Froyo rom, using tmobile US service, and does not currently have Wifi calling - send me a pm.
I think I have this working, but as I'm not in the US, or using tmobile, I cannot test this.
So ya get in touch and well see what we can do.

Skype (and other wifi calling apps) are available on the market; so why ask to 'bloat' roms with this??
Just use MarketEnabler and try a US provider if Skype is not available for you to download.

I don't think some of you guys are catching this. Lookup T-Mobile uma. It allows you to make calls using wifi when you are out of the coverage area. It is not a separate sip acct, it uses your cell minutes.

[Bounty][Feeler]Wifi calling on MIUI

Personally, I will start with $10. If this gets popular, I will setup a Paypal for people to submit to. Right now just want to see who's interested.
Want to get wifi calling working and supported on MIUI builds regardless of old or new Sim card.
$30 pledged so far!!
If nothing else hopefully we'll find out if it's possible or not. Since MIUI is based off Cm7, I don't see why not.
Thanks,
Derek

yes and read the thread and tell me how many people comment on the fact that it doesn't work. I've had it work once for a couple hours but did a reboot on my phone and lost it, never seen it since on MIUI. Tried three different MIUI roms built by different people, and none of them had wifi calling working.
it's been stated multiple times that it seems to be phone related issue (aka hardware). for most people it works but for some it doesn't due to phone specific issues.

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Wifi calling has always worked for me on Whitehawx's builds, even after many reboots. Guess I'm lucky.
WiFi calling never worked properly for me on any ROM other than OEM (T-Mobile)
It works on CM, but every time I leave the house, my phone disconnects from WiFi and connects to 3G, but I have no bars displayed. Phone/data works, but bars are not displayed. In order to see reception bars, I have to reboot my phone, or I can go to WiFi calling app, select to use "WiFi Only", wait till it disconnects from 3G, and change it back to "WiFi preferred".
As for MIUI ROM, I was never able to make it work.
Keep this thread alive, perhaps we can "occupy" T-Mobile and request them to release WiFi Calling app to the market.
I really think the wifi issue has to do with the sim card i have used almost every rom and a few kernel and i never had an issue with wifi my sim is about 6 yr old

I'm having trouble understanding what Wifi Calling has to do with the Sim Card..
i have the old sim card from like 2008 or something and i reboot my phone a lot and it still works i do hard reboots , battery pull etc and it still works

He says it works but it does not. Phone number comes up as unknown in status, which is part of the problem.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
T-mobile's Wifi Calling app does not work on the G2x using some newer SIM cards. This is ROM independent. It is a known issue. T-mobile's customer service will acknowledge the problem, offer a replacement SIM card, but they do not have real solution since the SIM replacement will be of the newer variety.
I think it has something to do with a change they made in wifi calling for their newer phones (Amaze and SGSII), which did not support wifi calling at all until these newer cards were released.
Since Wifi calling is important to me, I just placed my newer SIM card in my wife's GalaxyS 4g and placed her older SIM card in my phone. Her phone handles the newer SIM just fine. And mine works great with the older.
See this thread:

I wonder if this is the real issue behind difficulty people are having with MIUI? Are those of you having issues with wifi-calling in MIUI able to get wifi calling to work using a stock ROM?
Mine works on cm7 100% of time period. It is sparatic on miui on a good day with hardly ever working. With that said, it cannot be a hardware issue or even sim card issue. It is a miui problem....

My wifi calling works fine on any stock Rom and also works fine on Cm7... it has never worked on MIUI. It tells me invalid Sim, and my phone # shows up as unknown in settings.
Wifi calling is the *first* thing I check on any Rom. Thanks to the lousy reception my G2X gets, I was constantly dropping calls at home until I enabled wifi calling.
I can honestly say that wifi calling rarely ever worked for me on MIUI. If it ever did...a reboot would kill it. I got my sim card with my phone when I got it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I'll concur; i have flashed virtually every rom available for the G2X and all have had wifi calling except MIUI. I used to flash the latest MIUI every Saturday, but phone number was never recognized and sim is always invalid. It is the sim that came with the phone... I have no option for an older one. Since I have zero bars at home wifi calling = calling for me.

Positive, as long as you have ANY sort of data plan. If you're on the pay per megebyte play your screwed if you use the net at all. I've been tethering with my phones for about 3 years now on t-mobile with plans that don't allow it.
Does anybody know about using the wifi tethering for Cincinnati Bell? With unlimited data do we get away with tethering without being noticed or charged?
where did you get the app to wifi tether? I am not seeing the sprint icon that would normally be there...do i have to get the rooted wifi tether app? Can't believe there is no voicemail icon either....weird.

WiFi calling on Verizon?

Anyone know IF WiFi calling can be enabled on the Verizon network? I know it's enabled through my carrier (coming from Pixel 3 XL)
I am very interested in this as well. Have zero cell coverage at my job, but amazing wifi coverage.
That and a way to do wifi texting, but I think I may have to dig around for that one.

i think WiFi texting is tied to WiFi calling they really handicapped the device on Verizon's network. All it can do is essentially make and receive calls...
I know the T-Mobile version can on T-Mobile, but it's there anything that keeps the unlocked version from doing it on T-Mobile? I may switch if that's the case.
I love this phone so much I may have to switch to T-Mobile.

I did figure out a way to 'make' the option appear using a newer verizon of the Oneplus Logkit apk...(dial *#800#, pick Oneplus Logkit>Function Switch> VoWifi Switch). But after enabling it, it doesn't seem to work yet, and it somehow seems to break MMS if it's on. Not sure if they are actually working on it or not, but I wish someone could see if they could get it working. I think I got the APK from here, but I can't remember from where, so whoever you are, I'm sorry for not crediting you. If someone wants to mess around with it...by all means.

Install the Verizon Messages (Message+) and you should be able to do wifi texting. I tried the log kit as well and it doesn't seem like VOWifi is working but it is hard to tell. I can make Wifi calls using Google Voice and that number but only if not in Airplane mode. Seems to be a bug as it says to turn off airplane. Voice then proceeds to make a wifi call. Maybe the same effect with regular VOWifi where it would use wifi if there is no cell signal.

I actually switched to t-mobile, and voice over wifi, wifi texting and all that showed up and work great. Message+ does not allow wifi texting on Verizon on this phone, tier 2 support said development phones (that's what the OP7 is certified under) are not eligible to use advanced features on the network, including, voice over wifi, video calling and text over wifi using Verizon messages.
I got text over WiFi to work with Verizon messages + and use Google Hangouts over WiFi for the calls. Decent enough work around.
