Hey buddy,
first you need to download following things:
a) - Use Z4root to root your device (attached)
b) - Download Custom firmware for your mobile from cyanogenmod.com, and select "get cyanogenmod">>z71 Variants>>Nightly Builds>>cm_z71_full-112.zip. or the latest on(sorry i am not authorized to give any kind of url)
c) - download google apps (is attached)
d) - Rom Manager from android market.
Keep Z4Root application, custom firmware, google apps in your SD card in root.
Now use following steps:
1 - copy z4root .apk in your mobile SD card and install it in your cell phone. After installing open the application and choose permanent root option. Your system will get restarted and you'll see a "Super User" icon in icons place. if not then reopen z4root and again click on permanent root, same procedure will run. when "Super User" icon is seen, that means your device has been rooted.
2 - Find "ROM MANAGER" from android market (free version is available) and install it in your device.
After that open ROM Manager and click on "All ClockworkMod Recovery" then a list will appear click on "2.5.1.3" and then "commitva z71". Flash will get install.
3 - Click on "Reboot into Recovery", phone get restated in recovery mode (another way to start in recovery mode is press "power button+Volume up+ camera button").
4 - After getting in recovery mode select "wipe data/factory reset" & "wipe cache partition" with the help of trackball.
5 - then select "install zip from sdcard">>"choose zip from sdcard" then browse you custom firmware(cm_z71_full-102.zip). installation will take place.
6 - similarly browse google apps same.
7 - then click "reboot system now". (Note: to go one step back use power button)
Now your Cell phone has latest android firmware with latest features..

I do remember the android on iphone project. I wonder if that ever came to anything?
With regards to iOS on an android phone. The I can't remember ever seeing a thread on xda about it. I might be wrong. But with iOS being closed source operating system I'm almost certain it would be impossible.

[Rom Add-On] Clean & Stable Add-On For All Stock Firmware V4[21/07/11][New Market]
Please Do Not post this elsewhere
This will not work on newbie5 modded stock rom
Hi All.
I have made this rom add-on to try to keep the device as clean and stable as possible. I could add custom boot screens, launcher (like launcher pro) and much more, but I have only added the essentials. As i think everyone has different tastes and the extras are easily installed. I have chosen to use the software tool which is part of the stock firmware, this insures easy installation on any os. No usb recovery drivers or clockwork mod needed!
V4 Rom Add-On includes:
Market (New)
Google Talk
SuperUser
3D Gallery
Google Calendar
Visionary
YouTube App
(removed titanium backup due to size restraint, can be installed through market)
V4 can be installed over the top of V3, titanium backup will remain
V3 Rom Add-On includes:
Market (Old)[Full]
SuperUser
3D Gallery
Google Calendar
Visionary
Titanium BackUp
YouTube App
If you cannot sync contacts or calendar. Please use this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12385012&postcount=131
I have updated the rom add-on now so if you use the version with -1 at the end, it contains the fix.
Optional .ZIP's
Small Taskbar (For Advent v1.09 and v1.10 firmware only)
Gmail
Contacts
Google Maps can be downloaded from the market
I highly recommend launcher pro, its available from the market. It is a lot better than the stock launcher, and the payed for version has some great widgets.
Button savior, also available from the market. Is also for me a must for the vega, it adds the missing buttons as on-screen buttons.
This V3 update is more of a clean up. There was a lot of confusion over the multiple .rar parts and some compatibility issues with v1.10 POV firmware. I have now removed the small taskbar and added it as a update, so now my rom add-on is fully compatible with the pov firmwares and does not require multiple .rars. Advent firmware users who want the small taskbar, simply flash the Small_Taskbar.zip. If you have already installed my v2 version there is no need to update, as i said its more of a clean up. There are a few added apps, but they are easily installed.
Install Instructions:
1 - Download the .zip you wish to flash. Copy the .zip to "software update" on your SDcard.
2 - Navigate to settings/software tool/software update on vega, and touch the .zip
3 - Device will reboot and a "out of a box" android will appear and install the parts.
You will not lose any of your apps/data from this process.
Please make sure you have sufficient power to apply Add-On, i would recommend 50%
Root Instructions:
Root is required for some apps. Eg Button savior requires this for it to function fully.
1 - Open visionary
2 - Touch "Temproot now" the screen will go blank for a few seconds and return to the visionary page. Then click it again. (i have no idea why it is required to do this twice, but in my experience it is necessary)
3 - Touch "Attempt Permroot now" After a few seconds a super user prompt will appear, allow the prompt. Then device will reboot and it should be rooted.
If Flash does not work, navigate to /etc/shuttle_data and run the flash.apk. That will reinstall the included flash version.
If all apps are not showing in the market please follow ice-mn tip. Many thanks to him for this.

Since there are several post discussing this I have opened this thread instead answering the same on all of them.
To get all apps (at least all I have looked for ) you only have to follow the steps described.
1. Go to Manage Applications (in settings/applications)
2. Press the running tab and select market (if market is not running execute it)
3. Select Market from running apps. And:
Press Clear Cache
Press Force Stop
4. Go back and Select Google Services Framework. And:
Press Clear Data (answer ok on the message warning)
Press Force Stop
5. Try to run Market. You will get an error message.
6. Reboot the device and run market twice (the first one you will get the error message again).

Welcome to xda dev. I see this is your first post
Glad you find it useful. i hope to update it soon with a complete package (Flash etc), i just need some where to host it.

Hi All.
I have been playing with the market enabler (thanks to demonknight9). I have added the small taskbar framework to the update. so now you can have the market and small taskbar on a stock v1.08 vega. More gmail apps can be downloaded from the market. As demonknight9 says its very easy to install. No need for CWM.
1 - Download market_update0.zip file and put on storage card.
2 - Navigate to settings/software tool/software update, and navigate to location of market_update0.zip.
3 - Run the market_update0.zip
4 - Device will reboot and install the parts.
You will not lose any of your apps/data from this process.
It looks like flashing things to are vegas is easy, can be done from the software update. The zip is unsigned. More things can be added but i thought i would keep it simple to start with.
Hope its useful
I have made one with flash, spare parts and superuser as well, but it is larger than i can upload to xda dev. if anybody has somewhere i can upload i would be gratefull.
EDIT:I have added the flash.apk to enable flash, visionary to fully root the device and spare parts to disable compatibility mode for games to the attachments.

Good idea to add the bits. Why don't you upload it to fileape? Easy peasy to open an account. Just chose a username and a pass, no email, no confirmation just a plane doddle. go here; www.fileape.com
Upload it to mediafire, you dont even need to register an account to use it
How long does the market updater take, my vega been hanging for about 10 minutes, is this normal?

Which part is it hanging on, once run the device should reboot, then a picture of a box with a arrow appears, and the progress bar bellow turns orange. I have flashed this and different versions with no problems.

Thats very odd. I have re-flashed 4 different versions in the last 10 mins with no problems. Try to hold the power button down for six seconds to totally shut down. Plug the device into the power. Then try a reboot. If that does not work then you are going to have to go into recovery and re-flash the stock rom. Sounds like the flash got interrupted for some reason.

Instaling market and gapps on stock 5699

I've been using the new stock tnt 5699 for 3 days now, it seems to be far more stable and fast than previous versions, flash plays well on almost all the web pages I've tested, it only needs market and google applications to turn it into a really useful rom. So these are the modifications to "The Viewsonic G Tablet Super Thread (w/Market, Gmail, and Maps!)" to have it up and runnig:
1. Download and install z4root
2. Run z4root and choose "permanently root" to root your gtablet
3. Download and install rootexplorer
3. Run root explorer and Mount "/system" as R/w
4. Download and unzip gtablet ( http://forum.xda-developers.com attachment.php?attachmentid=432583&d=1288749538) into your sdcard
5. Copy the contents of G Tablet\permissions to System\etc\permissions
6. Copy the contents of G Tablet\lib to System\lib
7. Copy the contents o G Tablet\APP into your system\app folder
8. Install them in this order:
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
OneTimeInitializer.apk
Talk.apk
Vending.apk
Gmail.apk
Maps.apk
9. Make sure you remount "/system" as R/O when you're done!
10. Restart your G, Connect to Wifi
11. Open rootexplorer and Mount "/system" as R/W
12. In rootexplorer long press in "/system/build.prop" and choose "open in text editor"
13. Where it says "ro.product.device=harmony" change it to: "ro.product.device=olympus"
14. Press menu button and select save and exit.
15. Perform the following steps:
Go into Settings.
Go into Applications.
Select Manage Aplications (all).
Select Market.
Select Clear Cache.
Select Force Stop.
Hit back button once.
Select Services Framework.
Select Clear Data.
Select Force Stop.
Back to home screen.
16. Open market (you should get an error message)
17. Reboot gtab.
18. Let it sort things out on its own. Go into Market.
19. Enjoy Market.
The only thing not working is the google calendar
Hope this is useful
Thanks this is extremely helpful. What are the three copied folders Permission/Lib/App needed for?
Also, are you getting any force closes with any of the apps after installing the market?
Android Market without rooting?
Is it possible to install the Android Market without rooting? Or un-root after installing the Market?
The reason I ask is movie rentals from the Android Market. Movies won't play on rooted devices. Just wishing there were some way of getting movies rentals to work.

I haven't tried it on the Gtab, but I'd look at Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper). It allows you to unroot/root if you're already rooted. It was developed for the Kindle Fire to re-root after OTA updates, but it also works to backup and unroot for apps that don't like root. I've used it on a couple of non-Kindle devices and it works great.
I was successfully able to run this:
- with temporary root
- using free es file explorer
The changes I did were:
2) instead of Permanent Root, I chose Temporary root. I needed to enable USB debugging first, but temporary root worked.
3) Instead of root explorer I used ES file Explorer. The Viewsonic-installed 1.x version did not work. I downloaded a newer version 1.6.1 from estrongs.com
Also, it took a few tries for market to show up under "system applications" in tap&tap's settings screen. I didn't have an "applications (all)", it may have been a root explorer thing.
I'm waiting for Market to self update like help says it will. This old version did FC on me once.
You don't even need root to install the Market on stock!
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
Have u tried this on an unrooted gtab? If so are the steps the same without the need to rw
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Wait a sec, does system even need rw? Without root it cant be changed to rw.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I have a question about step 3. How do you download root explorer when you don't yet have access to the Market?
[Edit] Never mind. I found an alternative method of getting gapps on to my Gtablet. It is an update file that automated the gapps install. Do a web search for "Gtablet Back to Stock w/ a few modifications" and you will find it. It is a February 22, 2012 entry of a blog entitled "Salvatore's Place"
I did the above and every thing works perfect except that I have the old market and its not updating. any help on that?

[Q] Chinese phone Galaxy Grand

I have a Galaxy Grand but the chinese version.
The model is SCH-i879.
The problem i have is that the android in this phone does not allow me to install any of the google apps (maps, gmail, play etc).
I haven't been able to install CWM with odin. The installation seems succesfull (i'm installing the CWM for the Samsung Galaxy Grand GT-i9082). I cant boot into recovery when i flash the CWM.
I have the original Stock image that i got from Samsung Mobile.com, but other than that, i have not been able to install google apps, root the phone or install CWM to install Cyanogen or other custom rom.
Does anybody know what could i do to at least root the phone? i was able to install ROM Manager, but without any root privilages it is useless...

hello.
can u tell us how you managed to install gapps?
i downloaded the zip from goo.im and copied it to the root of the phone, rebooted and tried to install from recovery mode 3e but it says that it doesn't find the sdcard.
after that i thought that if i put an external sdcard maybe it will work. still nothing. the i tried with adb but i get an error about the signature of the zip.
the only way i see that i will be successful is by installing the zip from cwm.
is there something wrong with my phone that it can't see the internal sdcard or is it normal? when the phone is running i can see it without a problem. just in recovery mode i get the error

1. Camera, when you clicked on camera it shuts down and says "Security Policy resrticts the use of Camera"
2. Memory Card - Micro SD is mounted but when booted you can't see the icon on My Files also you can't browse the contents of the memory card but when in download mode / restore mode it reads it.
3. Bluetooth - Icon or setting is there but when you click it on it does not turn into green or won't turn on.
4. On the Drop down menu there's a notification that says "Please install MDM" - i tried installing MDM but when the app is installed it prompts for a "company site code"
Possible Solutions that already tried
1. Restored the phone to it's original state on Device Recovery Mode (Factory Reset) nothing happened
2. Flashed a custom rom (OCHIE ROM) but still the "Please install MDM" on the drop down prompts it and same issues, Cam+MMC+BT restricted
3. Flashed custom kernel (Berzebb), nothing happened "Please install MDM" on the drop down prompts it and same issues, Cam+MMC+BT restricted
4. Tried to locate the Application that restricts the use of the following features by using Titanium Backup PRO and was able to locate 1 app that says DM manager, tried to kill the app using Titanium backup and was able to remove the notification "Please install MDM" on the drop down menu but still same problem Cam+MMC+BT restricted.

GAPPS on Galaxy S7 SM-G9300

Hello, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G9300 that does not include google services and its applications and I would like very much to be able to have them installed on my phone. Is there any way to do this? I have already tried to install the package from OpenGapps and it does not work. Thank you very much in advance!!!
I have got same problem. I have rooted my phone and install TWRP, so can I replace firmware with G930T?

See this thread. What people are doing with the Edge 9350 seem to be applicable to the 9300. I'd bet there are more info on Chinese forums if you can make out what is what.

Thank you.
I spent more time in chinese forum, now I have only rooted G9300, but still I can not run google play services. I tried flash G930TUVU2APC8_TMB2APC8_TMB_USA_T-Mobile_6.0.1 official firmware to my G9300 but it didn't successed because of different PIT file (g930T has bigger system partition then g9300). At this point, resizing g9300 partition can be possible?
Ok, now all of Google services are working on my G9300. The all steps and necessary files are below.
1- install CROM _V1.0.4.apk and run for unlock the bootloader.
2-install Samsung-Usb-Driver-v1.5.59.0.
3-install Odin3_v3.10.7
4-flash G9300-PC9-Auto-Root-0403_3 with odin.
5-wipe data partition in TWRP
6-install open_gapps-arm64-6.0-pico-20160329 in TWRP.

If you already download all files from link (you have to put https at beginning of the link ) you have to follow the all instructions step by step. Before of all you have to unlock your bootloader by using CROM (just download apk, install and run). Copy open_gapps-arm64-6.0-pico-20160329 file to phone's SD card or internal storage. At odin stage, press AP button and select G9300-PC9-Auto-Root-0403_3 file. In Odin options only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time box have been checked. For enter download mode press power + home + volume down buttons until you see the download screen on the phone. Just press start button and wait 10 seconds in odin, then your device will be reboot in recovery mode (you will see TWRP screen in chinese). First time when device in recovery, root process will be done. Then press install button and select open_gapss from SD card or internal storage. Confirm to install and reboot system. you will see google account manager while booting system. Sorry, my english is not well.

Hi, thanks for the instruction. One question, does this root method mess up the front camera? I heard people not being able to take multiple photos with the front camera after rooting their SM-G9300.
Other people have reported issues with phone not recognizing SD card after rooting, and not being able to play video files after rooting. I am not sure if these are false negatives. Have you experienced any problem after rooting your SM-G9300?
I have only front camera issue. There is no SD or player issue.

Good to know. Thank you!
Someone suggested that the front camera issue can be solved by using a third-party camera app, not the Samsung native app. Maybe you can try that.
One more question, after rooting the phone, can I uninstall some of the bloatware apps such as the Samsung and Baidu stuffs that I never use? If so, how do I go about to do that? I have flashed Customized ROMs on android phones before but other than that I have little experience with rooting.
I am now very tempted to root my phone, as I really need Google Apps...
Yes, you can uninstall everything with system app remover application which you can download playstore.

So that's a snapdragon 820 variant right? Would this root method work for American 820 variants?

Are you aware how it works? Could a similar method be developed? Just thinking out loud.

You have to wipe data partition then re-root your device and reinstall gaps by twrp recovery.
