T-mobile reducing unlimited price?

Saw this article yesterday. If true I'll be a happy camper. I'm paying the same price (79.99) for 1500 mins +unlimited everything, and I am a heavy talker so I get worried by the end of my cycle. 79.99 for unlimited talk and everything would be a sweet deal. On par with Sprint's 69.99+10 but a step up for including landlines.
I think it's about time TMo got something to compete. They don't seem to have the perks of some of the other guys. ATT has rollover, Sprint unlimited M2M, etc...

Moved to Q&A? I wasn't really asking a question....even though I guess I ended it with a question mark...indicating rumor... But ok.

Unlimited 4G ending on Thursday

I just learned tonight that as of Thursday, 3 days from now, 4G data plans will be capped.
The new cap will be 5GB. Pricing overage is not specified just yet, I would assume the standard $10/GB overage.
This is for any NEW customers and any upgrades done AFTER this day. Anyone who already has a TBolt is grandfathered in (myself included). Spread the word, and let your friends/family know should they need a truly unlimited plan.
I would expect an announcement tomorrow sometime. Just wanted to let you guys know.
And the gospel has spoke. I am grandfathered young skywalker.

This is the reason I upgraded immediately, even if it required paying full retail
My business rep has also told me that people getting 4G data plans better do it now, before it changes. He did not tell me this Thursday, but his feeling was no more than 30 days after the TB was released. He also told me there's no guarantee anyone on the unlim plans will be grandfathered.
This is what I was afraid of.. glad I JUST got mine lol
I knew the unlimited 4G data wouldn't last until the Droid Bionic. Glad I have my Thunderbolt.
i am in the door but i still am going to sell TB when bionic comes out

There would be lots of trouble for not grandfathering people already up and running on unlimited 4G data plans. If it isn't in the contract they can't suddenly put it into the contract. Additionally as the TB currently offers no built in mechanism to turn off 4G for those who got it under the concept of it having unlimited data would have to be offered the option to return their phones, etc... Seriously it'd be a PR nightmare/huge trouble for VZW to not grandfather people in, its the same reason AT&T did it for people who already had unlimited plans when they moved to a tiered system.

That was my thought to it also. Cant change my contract just bc they want to. Thats why we have contracts, to lock things in place
So what happens when we want to move onto another 4g device? Are they going to allow us to transfer our 4g plan to the new device and retain our unlimited? I'd imagine since the LTE sim is swappable.. we can probably just pop it into another device and keep unlimited..
Any thoughts?
Wow I just signed up for Verizon today and got the Thunderbolt I signed up for the Unlimited plan looks like its a good thing I did seeing this tonight
So glad I bought my Tbird on release day.
So pissed that Verizon would do this. After the gov't sat on their hands and made them go either unlimited or 5GB (not "5GB unlimited") in years past, their CDMA based data plans have been unlimited ever since. REALLY unlimited. Unless you're in the 95th percentile. Maybe.
But now they're going the way of the greedy [email protected]#[email protected]#%(^#$^$$%#$$ at AT&T? What happened to the carrier that was both reliable-thanks-CDMA and consumer-friendly-thanks-Sprint, in the same package?
Major regression. Very unhappy. I'm glad I have grandfathered, but I wonder if I will be forced over to a 5GB plan in two years when my contract expires.
Can we get some sort of confirmation to this rumor?
I'm glad I became a Verizon customer this past Sunday. I was with T-Mobile till the news broke out. I refuse to give AT&T any of my money!
Anyway, I'm glad I made this move. The Thunderbolt is crazy fast, and I'm very happy with it. Oh, only 1 thing I did hate.... My battery died after 3 hours of being fully charged.

I'd think that switching devices isn't an issue. Take AT&T they only forced people to tiered if they change out of the unlimited data plan. As their entry level tiered was priced at like $15/mo vs $30 so some people who didn't use much data chose to do that but never could get unlimited again. Also for developers and the like switching between devices for testing on Verizon it seems to require switching a phone ID and activating that device, but I assume with 4G the sim card would only need to be moved? I'm unsure as to how that works, but I'll likely need to move between my TB, which arrives tomorrow, and my Incredible for development purposes. So I'm sure I'll figure out the details soon.

I assume until Verizon makes an official statement it'll remain a rumor. Regardless, sooner than I've been hearing. I'd heard tiered by the summer. But suppose a test run for a week might be enough to see what kind of saturation to expect network wise. But think before the bionics release would be a reasonable guess. But well wish it wasn't headed that way. Think the approach of I think sprint just charging an additional $10/mo if you want 4G isn't a bad business model. Plus the users who get these phones and barely use any data would likely offset from those who do...

My Verizon Rep is allowing me to upgrade early, but pay Verizon price for the phone. But my upgrade is the 29th of March. So if I can, I would wait and grab from Amazon. So until some sort of verification somewhere I'll wait. They won't do a surprise change would they?

Don't think for a minute that they won't do a surprise change! The legalese you click / sign through when you're becoming a customer says they can change any part of any of your terms at any time with or without notice, basically they can decide that it's $1,000 per byte and that's just tough luck for you. Of course they would probably get sued for being unreasonable, but you see my point. The act of changing the deal on a dime is not illegal because you agreed to let them.
And if you aren't even a Verizon Unlimited Smartphone Data Plan customer at all right now, they have even less obligation to you, because you aren't a customer, and you have no chance of being grandfathered.

this was my understanding. Even if they have a contract with you, they can still change it, but it then gives you an option, you bend over and take the changes, or you can leave with no ETF.
Also if they are not going to grandfather people in, then I will be returning my phone within the 30 days and going with another carrier. I like their coverage and LTE is crazy, but a 5GB cap on internet speeds this fast? you'll be hitting cap in a week.
I am hoping that the whole deal between AT&T and T-Mobile becoming one company makes them change their mind, or at least rethink the data plans.

Tiered Data - 7-7-11

http://phandroid.com/2011/06/20/tie...th-will-get-extremely-pricey-for-power-users/
Just stumbled across this and figured I would ruin a few peoples days.
Prices are outrageous, just a little FYI.
I was hoping to get my 7-21-11 upgrade before it happened. Well they better upgrade me early before the tiered pricing or I'm leaving them when my contract is up in November.
they should offer at least 5GB for 30 bucks.. if not, come renewal time.. I'm looking at sprint.

I was thinking of doing it before renewal time. Even if I am grandfathered in. Just getting tired of Verizon and all they are doing, especially to rooters/hacktivists. I am tired of always looking over my shoulder.
Glad I just signed a 2 year agreement 2 months ago.
Disappointing that they aren't even going the AT&T route and lowering the price slightly for the 2GB plan.
They say that customers want tiered pricing, but then set the current unlimited price as the 2GB plan. Yeah...that is really looking out for customer choice.

So it looks like it's finally time to upgrade my Eris. Is the Thunderbolt the way to go? I want 4G, but was hoping for something a little smaller...
Thanks,

You know what it is at&t are gonna rape them come conversion time. So they wanna rape who ever then can get. So I'm happy I just started a 2 year agreement. So basically when is done I'm going to at&t and get charged the extra few bucks a month. **** there gonna have service everywhere now.

Oh yeah, adding T-Mobile is just going to expand their service so much .
Anyone notice AT&T cannot do simple math. They say they cover 97% of all Americans (about the time the commercial started, total population was about 310 million). 97% comes to about 301 million. But somehow by adding T-Mobile, they say they will cover another 50 million Amercians. which would equal about 360 million

Sorry you fell for it. They offered the discounts for a year to get people off of the unlimited plans. After the year you are stuck with their current pricing plans. That's why I declined that "great offer"
Yes.. let's all switch companies when our contracts are up even though half of you won't be changing your plan and thus will be paying the same as you are now..
And if you read the original article, the same people that said the switch is coming are also saying you can renew your same plan for and get a subsidized phone while keeping unlimited data.

Counting people multiple times apparently counts with them. Same way I can say that I've slept with 13,438 girls.
This is gonna be bad for business with Amazon, netflix and Google all using streaming services. Even if you don't stream a lot of data or tether.. you can EASILY use upto 3 GB of data per month on normal usage. So 30 bucks for 2GB means we'll all have 4G phones with superfast broadband.. but use it only check emails or maps to find directions occasionally.
and why the **** does Verizon want to charge 20 bucks extra for tethering when it is ALREADY a limited data plan?? How the heck does it matter to verizon if I am paying 50 bucks for 5GB data and I use it over the phone or on my PC thru the phone???
that's just plain greedy...(assuming this is all true information of course.. if it's just a rumour and VZW keeps up with unlimited data for 30 bucks.. I LOVE YOU VERIZON!).

2 more than me. I will catch up this weekend.
Make sure to read the fine print make sure it doesn't say up to like 600mega bites becausethey offer you full speed up to that amount then it goes slow. Yeah its unlimited but it goes slow after a amount is used. What company though.

[Q] Verizon's Plan Changes

Verizon is making some changes to their plans starting tomorrow (as everyone already knows).
I understand that one of these changes is that if we are currently on the grandfathered data plan, the only way to keep this is if we pay the full price for a phone upgrade.
Since the full price upgrade will not put us in a 2-year contract or use a currently available upgrade, would it be possible to upgrade a phone and sell that new boxed phone to try to offset the price of a full upgrade (since I'll eventually pay the full price to upgrade my phone sometime).
I'm not expecting to break even, but I was just wondering if it were a possibility.

Verizon Blows
I've been using 40 gigs avg a month going back 4 years because I'm on the road a lot. Nothing good lasts forever. As a grandfathered subscriber my plan is to keep my Bionic until it dies and just pay full price for a Nexus or something. Getting rid of you unlimited data for a cheap price for a new phone is not worth it in my opinion.

[Q] Have I become too picky, or do people also not like the way verizon is going?

I really just needed to vent , maybe get some views also .
Does any one feel like the current trend in verizon is really disturbing ?
Here are my issues :
1- They of course took away unlimited and then they take away eligibility to keep it when upgrading ( unlike At&t I think which allows their customers to keep the unlimited with upgrade and Tmobile which allows unlimited for an added fee ).
2- They are forcing manufacturers to lock bootlaoders , and take away SD card space, to cause us to use more data . Example the DNA( only the verizon version does not have expanded storage capability) and now the removal of the 32 gb version of Galaxy S3
3- None of the new devices have the capability of surf and talk on 3g like the t-bolt, rezound and the S3. The note 2 and the DNA both lost that feature . Seems to me like that is going backwards.
additional fees for locking bootloaders are being implemented and future complete removal unlimited data plans, rumors I know, but even more disturbing.
I am really starting to get bothered by their current practices. I feel like we are losing more and more freedoms and privileges while the rest of the world is getting more ( the case of the DNA getting the better version )
I am not sure what to accomplish by this thread, I am interested to see if this is really bothering any one else as much as it does with me, to the point of thinking about going to another company.
I still have the unlimited , as i am grandfathered into it , but i am really thinking about ditching verizon if they get rid of unlimited completely. Before that even, only one line left in my family plan is under contract till august. I am seriously debating leaving the company all together because of their practices
Done raving and ranting.
Not to be rude but, if you don't like the service you get for your money then youshould switch. If you aren't happy it really doesn't matter what any random internet people think.
I'm right there with you on not liking the way they are headed. My wife and I have lines we got on her sister's family plan before they did away with unlimited data, so we're here for a while, and I like the service we're getting. We also got GS3's and are on contract for a few years with our affordable data plans. When that expires, though, I'm anticipating leaving.
We'll have to see where everything stands, but if I was a new potential customer, I'd definitely go with a Nexus 4 on a prepaid network instead of Verizon.
Yes they are getting quite ridiculous. But, when you really think about it, havent they always been like this, moreso than the other carriers?
Just curious, what kind of stuff have you been hearing about completely doing away with unlimited? Still have mine through a family plan. Never gonna give it up if I can help it.
Not that I don't agree with a lot of what your saying but AT&T allows you to keep their unlimited data when upgrading because it then has a cap of 5GB before they throttle you. If I had too choose between the two, I'd rather keep Verizon here since we at least still have true unlimited.

Rumors are two folds, eventually every one will be done with contract that obliged verizon to keep unlimited and then you will be going month to month ( if you decide to keep unlimited and pay full price for your device) . This is about to happen by this summer I think when you calculate the last bit of customers that were able to keep their unlimited and upgrade forcing verizon into a contract ( those who pre ordered the gsIII) . After that they can pretty much force all the month to month grandfathers to chose a tiered plan.
This is why I am very hesitant to pay a full price for a phone, they are being really unpredictable, I would hate to pay full price for a phone only to be forced into a teired plan, and with their trac record, they come up with something new every day.

Their executive relations team is pissing and that's very difficult to do. I called complaining about how I've received phone after phone through the CLN program have either been broken or not up to date with software. One exec assured me that they're up to the quality they guarantee. When I call in saying that I have video proof of receiving this current Galaxy S III with a physical defect and that it was behind by two updates, they failed to return my calls and sent me a letter detailing how many CLNR devices they've sent saying that they had gone above and beyond expectations to help me and I could cancel before February 7th without having to pay an ETF if I wasn't happy. They've failed to return several of my phone calls and I'm ready to contact the BBB/FCC over this. Someone needs to start taking Verizon down a peg or two. Sure, they get fined 1-2 million dollars but not like it matters when that's change to them.

This is true/false. Verizon throttles 3G during peak hours but not 4G. Source: Personal experience lol. Still, sad that my throttled 3G is faster than Sprint's "unlimited" 3G. I'll pull around 800kbp/s while throttled while my Sprint friends get 400-500kpb/s.
