I won't follow this thread anymore since i have sold my Boston. Anyway you can find more informations on htcmania.com (use google translate if you don't speak spanish)
EDIT: Upgrade to CMLMod 1.5 based on Muchtel ROM (below outdated CML 1.4)
With this tutorial you sould be able to unlock your Orange Boston (aka GigaByte G1305 Codfish, Apanda A60, WellcoM A88, Vibo A688, Cincinnati Bell Blaze f800, Commtiva Z71, Muchtel A1, Chinavision Excalibur, Motorola Greco, Nexian A890) and install CMLMod 1.5.1 (or 1.4) (by c.martinez.lozano) based on the ROM Muchtel 2.1 (eclair)
Main advantages/disadvantages of CMLMod 1.5.1:
+Unlocked device (can use any SIM)
+Android 2.1 (Eclair)
+Root access with Superuser permissions
+Preinstalled programms and other features
+Easy SD partitioning and more features thanks to the new recovery
+Optional App2SD
+Processor speed adjustable in a range between 122 and 600MHz (with the possibility to set variable processor speed to have performance and longer battery life at the same time)
+Other features: 3 different launchers, flash light, setcpu, app2SD in one click, other preinstalled apps and tweaks
=Camera autofocus not working (like on stock ROM)
=Different UserInterface (in my opinion better, but that's subjective)
-You may loose the warranty on your device
-IMEI may change, to restore your original IMEI use the tutorial in my second post
-Languages not fully implemented (english is working fully, other languages settable with LocaleSwitch but not fully integrated )
Important!!! There may be the risk of damaging your phone in an irreparable way! Be aware also by installing this ROM you will loose your warranty! I do not take any responsability for the status of your device!
I translated the tutorials on htcmania.com

Requirements
Hardware requirements:
-Phone model: Orange Boston (aka GigaByte G1305 Codfish, Apanda A60, WellcoM A88, Vibo A688, Cincinnati Bell Blaze f800, Commtiva Z71, Muchtel A1, Chinavision Excalibur, Motorola Greco, Nexian A890)
Edit: never seen a phone with so many different names!!!
-PC operating system: Windows XP 32 bit with SP3 and .NET Framework 2.0 and Winrar installed. Do not try with Windows XP working on a virtual machine!!!. Seems to work also on other Windows 32 bit operating. Does NOT work with Windows7 64 bit
-USB to micro USB cable (comes with the phone)
Software requirements For CMLMod 1.5.1:
Firmware Apanda A60 1.6.2
Firmware CMLMod 1.5.1 (this file already contains RUT 1.2.2 and the Phone drivers)
Additional for CMLMod 1.4 (Outdated):
RUT 1.2.2
Phone drivers
Firmware Apanda A60 2.1.9
Firmware CMLMod 1.4
Tools like adb, fastboot, etc
Ready to start! make sure you have enough battery left (at least 30%)
PART 1: Installing Apanda 1.6.2
Unpack the file Phone drivers on your desktop, or another place, but remember where
install RUT_V1_2_2. At the end you will have to reboot your pc. Reboot it
[*]Unpack the firmware 1.6.2 from the archive Hipi1_6_2.rar and you get a file ending with .nb0
[*]Execute RUT (the shortcut should be on your desktop). The program reminds us to prepare the USB cable and to have all the drivers installed. (For Vista or Seven 32 bit: right click on the RUT shortcut. on the menu select Properties-->Compatibility check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) then press OK, then right click on the Rut shortcut and select Run as administrator)
[*]In the next window, look for the firmware just to unpacked (the .nb0 file) and select it.
[*]The instructions tell you what to do: disconnect the phone from your pc (if connected), remove and reinsert the battery to your phone
[*]Hold the camera button and the volume up button pressed and then press the power button to enter recovery menu.
[*]Once the recovery menu, connect your phone to your computer. If we never connected in recovery, it requires new drivers. They are in the inside the Folder we unpacked in step 1 inside the subfolder AndroidX32 for 32 bit operating systems (if it later asks for drivers again, select the same folder again).
[*]The installer will detect your phone. If not, enter the Device Manager and check that all devices are correctly installed.
[*]From now on, follow the on-screen instructions and wait, it takes a while.
[*]Once complete, we have the new firmware installed. Our phone will restart and (after a while) show us something in chinese. Touch the right on-screen button to select the english language.
[*]When your phone is on check your IMEI by dialing *#06# and then press the call button and write it down. Now check the IMEI written on the phone under the battery. If the IMEI is the same, go on with PART 2. if the IMEI changes, use the tutorial in my second post to restore the original IMEI.
Now your phone is unlocked but you have the chinese version of Android 1.6
PART 2: Installing CMLMod 1.5.1 (for CMLMod 1.4 skip this and go to PART 2 OLD)
Unpack the file CMLMod1.5.rar
Run the programm RUT once again, and select the newCMLMod1.5.nb0 file you got
Repeat the same steps described in PART 1: 6.-10.
Now on your phone open the main menu and then CMLMod1.5 to configure App2SD select Configurar Apps2sd, then partitionar SD the phone will restart into recovery mode.
Now select Partition sdcard, Partition SD and confirm with the Home key. set swap=0, Ext2=512 (is more then enough! you can also set less) and Confirm twice again.
Then press the back button and select APP2SD if you want your apps being installed on your sd in the Ext2 partition.
Attention!!! if after you want your apps being installed on your phone memory you have to make a Wipe, that means, your data will be lost.
Always in CMLMod1.5 you can select a launcher, install flash lite and install setcpu to set the speed of the phone's processor with the possibility of variable speed.
FINISH!!!
PART 2 OLD: Installing Apanda 2.1.9
Unpack the file Hipi_2_1_9GMS.rar and you get the file Hipi2_1_9_GMS版.nb0. Rename this file in Hipi2_1_9_GMS.nb0 (the chinese symbol can make problems)
Run the programm RUT once again, and select the new Hipi2_1_9_GMS.nb0 file you got
Repeat the same steps described in PART 1: 6.-10.
Now you have the chinese version of Android 2.1
PART 3 OLD: Installing CMLMod 1.4
Unzip the archive CMLMod1.4zip copy the 3 files inside and paste them into the folder A688
Remove and reinsert the battery of your phone
Press and hold the volume down and the end call buttons and then press the power button
Now your phone starts in fastboot mode. Connect it to your PC
Press on your keyboard Windows+R in the pop up window type "cmd" and press Enter
In the dos window type "cd.." (off course without ") and press Enter, until you are in C:\
Now type "cd A688" Enter, then "fastboot getvar version" Enter. If the answer is "0:5" procede, otherwise control if your drivers are correctly installed
Type "fasboot -w" Enter
Type "fastboot flash system system.img" Enter (wait 2-3 min. until it finishes)
Type "fastboot reboot"
Tutorial: Restore your original IMEI
Wrong IMEI seems to lead to a lot of different strange problems while using the phone. So if your IMEI changed after flashing an other ROM it might be better to restore the original one.
All Credits to c.martinez.lozano
Attention!!! this process is delicated!!! I have no responsability for any damages to your phone!
Dowload this File: and Unpack it to "C:\IMEI"
Go into C:\IMEI and execute setup. This will install PSAS
Execute MadEdit (answer NO), in MadEdit click File-->Open and choose NVList.nvr and we see a lot of numbers
Scroll down until on the left grey side you see "000020C0" and on the same line in the white part you see the numbers ".. .. .. .. 1A 23 45 67 89 AB CD EF...." this is the BAD IMEI
Now open notepad (on your pc) and write down your correct IMEI (found under your battery) putting in front "A" and separing every 2 characters (E.g. if your IMEI is "324867523906130" write "A3 24 86 75 23 90 61 30") and now invert every coupe of letters (in this case you would have "3A 42 68 57 32 09 16 03") *NOTE: thanks to jhonburton for better example
In MadEdit instead of the BAD IMEI "1A 23 45 67 89 AB CD EF" write (replace it) the number you got (in this case "3A 42 68 57 32 09 16 03")
Save the file and close MadEdit
Disconnect from your PC and turn off your phone and restart it into Recovery mode (Camera+Vol. up+Power). Reconnect it to your PC and if necessary install the drivers
Run PSAS (you installed it before) and choose Hardware Forensics-->Use Mobile Ports
Right to Serial Com Port select COM? - Smartphone 2009 Wireless USB Moden. The ? stands for a number. So very important!!! remember for Example if ?=3, remember COM3
Go to the tab Codes (QC) and click on Send SPC
Go to the tab Dialog Port (QC) and on the second drop down menu left to the button Lets go select Restore NVItems (Binary) and then press Lets go
Select the NVList.nrv (we have changed before) and click Open
IMPORTANT Once the process is complete, closed PSAS
Download and install QPST
Launch QPST Configuration
Click on the tab Ports and select Add New Port... and there you write the COM? port you had to remember before (in my example write "COM3") and click OK
In the tab Active Phones now you should see your phone. If not something went wrong.
Click on Start Clients-->SERVICE PROGRAMMING
A window with our phone will pop up. We select OK
Select Load from file and choose the 00000000_sp.qcn inside the folder c:\IMEI and click Open
Click Write to Phone and wait until your phone restarts, with your new IMEI.
Check your IMEI again by dialing *#06# now it should be correct
If your IMEI is still wrong, check accurately if you did everything right (correct number in NRV file etc etc...) if nothing helps procede with following steps:
Turn on the phone in download mode ( Hang up + Vol. Up + Power) and flash Apanda 1.6.2 again
Repeat all the steps of the Tutorial to restore your IMEI
If this didn't help install Apanda 1.6.1 always with the phone in download mode
Repeat all the steps of the Tutorial to restore your IMEI
If you still have problems, try to find another PC with WindowsXP SP3 32bit where you can try again.
Sooner or later you will be able to get you IMEI right (i think so)
thanx a ton suriya I've unlocked my blaze f800
You forget to explain how to use app2sd on CMLMod1.4
Thank's about your translate!!.
Sorry about my bad english
thanks alot. really good tutorial!
i didnt encounter any problems at all, not even those specified by you in the tutorial. as for the underclocked cpu, i see that as an advantage: this android version is faster with lower cpu frequency then the original one (at least for me), and thus, less battery is consumed.
if u dont care about ur phone's warranty (i dont), i really recommend this upgrade.
so far seems stable, but the bug when u place a call and u don't here ringing, persists.
Thanks alot, again!
Is it possible to flash the phone with this room using ROM Manager?
And if following your method do we have to do PART1 of the tutorial? i allready have my phone unlocked and have Android 1.6 for example.
thanks!
I have problem with Imei. After flash it is chaged. And i use this tutorial for restore imei but it didn´t work and my imei is still different thet under battery. And i have problem whit wifi. Maybe bad IMEI is reason for don´t working Wifi
Sorry for my poor english

Explain me better. Do you mean, when you call someone you don't hear this "tuuut-tuuut"? cause if it's that i don't have this bug
by the way if you didn't read it look here, about battery optimization.

ROM Manager doesn't support our phone as far as i know.
I wouldn't skip that part! seems strange but i think i have red that people got trouble if skipping PART 1

Try once again step by step. start with PART 1 again. be careful you don't forget anything. Use this version of QPST and a new .nrv file this time. if this does not help we will find a solution together looking step by step (in case c.martinez.lozano is an expert).
By the way wich kind of phone do you have, and from wich country? And wich operating system has your computer?

Ok good you restored your IMEI. About WIFI. Best thing is if you ask on htcmania because i don't know what to do.
When you have an answer and corrected your problem please post it here. So i add it to first post cuz other people may have the same issue.
CMLMod 1.5 with some nice new features is on the way!!!
there is in italian version too?

dont remember exactly, but in some parts of the tutorial, you have to "Run as administrator" the given applications (RUT, etc). i used win7 32bit, and no problem.

No. But with LocaleSwitch you can select italian then most things are in italian. Settings (impostazioni) is still in English, and no italian dictionary on the stock keyboard. you can install another keyboard, to solve this. But wait for CML 1.5. Maybe some better.

oki..thx for info. but, what does exactly that locale switch app? what are the changes?
Please add Nexian A890 (Indonesian version of this device) on the list too. Here, in Indonesia, we can bring it to the official service center to upgrade it.

Thanks for the 2.1 Upgrade
Updated 2011-05-09 (New version aim3)
So now that Vodafone Spain finally released a Froyo OTA upgrade for HTC Magic, I've built a cooked ROM from the official OTA upgrade. The ROM tries to ressemble the stock ROM, but including the following extras:
Version aim1:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh is removed, so it won't overwrite your recovery on every boot, as the stock ROM does
This ROM is rooted. Superuser.apk is installed on system.
Included apns-conf.xml from Cyanogen, so APNs from all operators are available, not just from Vodafone.
Google applications updated to the latest release: Maps, StreetView, Gmail, Market and Youtube
Replaced keyboard with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) newer keyboard.
Removed the Vodafone Live application and shortcut
Version aim2:
Removed Gingerbread keyboard, better install as separate package if you want it (see link)
Updated Google Maps and Market to latest versions.
Include busybox, it's needed for some root applications
Deodexed (takes some time on first boot, saves space on /system)
Re-signed (needed to include STK)
Included STK (Sim-Toolkit) application ("Servicios SIM" in Spanish). Required for some virtual operatos to work in Roaming
Added Sound Recorder icon in Launcher (application was there, but only accessible from MMS when adding a sound)
Added support for scripts in /system/etc/init.d (useful for adding compcache, swap, etc).
Version aim3:
Removed the "assert shappire" line on installation script. Should allow installation on Dream/G1
Revert some re-signed packages to allow Google applications updated via Market
Load ipv6 module to have Google Goggles working
Replace stock kernel with a custom kernel for better performance and memory tweaks
Enable compcache (compressed in-RAM swap memory) on boot by default, to get some extra free MB on magic 32B, which makes the system much more usable (applications and launcher are not killed all the time). Tweaks can be customized using setprop (see later)
Overclock CPU on boot. Can be tweaked using setprop (see later)
Include support for Live Wallpapers
Please note that this ROM is only for HTC Magic 32B (not for 32A or Dream). You'll need to use the System-Only ROM and a different kernel and/or SPL for 32A or for HTC Dream.
This latest update (version aim3) includes:
Android 2.2.1 (FRG83D)
SPL (HBOOT) version 1.33.0013
Radio 2.22.28.25
Kernel 2.6.35.13 from Farmatito (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010932)
About the SPL and Radio: This is a perfect SPL, so it won't allow you to flash unsigned images from fastboot. Please make sure you have a custom recovery image. The new 2.22.28 radio won't work with other older SPLs, but it's worth the additional RAM (15MB). Also, if you want to install another kernel, it must be compatible with this radio version.
Requeriments and pre-installation
You'll need a custom recovery that allows you to flash the update.zip file. Clockworkmod recovery or AmonRA should do the job.
Make sure you have a good battery level, and make a full backup before installing.
Disclaimer: I won't take any responsibility if this bricks or damages your device.
Upgrading
Due to resigning, you can't update from previous version. A full wipe is required, sorry. However, if you backup your data and apps with Titanium Backup, and then restore them, it should work if coming from a previous version of this ROM, or if coming from the stock versions. There are no guarantees if coming from other non-official ROMs
Installation (Two-step)
This is the way the official OTA is done. First, the HBOOT (SPL) is updated to 1.33.0013. Then, the system, kernel and radio are updated. If you want to make the installation this way:
1. SPL Update. First download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3658919/android/vf_magic_froyo_aim1/vf_magic_frg83d_hboot_0013.zip (Mirror: http://content.wuala.com/contents/airadier/Android/vf_magic_frg83d_hboot_0013.zip?dl=1) and apply update from recovery (copy to the SD Card, then choose Apply .zip from SDCard, and choose the zip file). It will reboot a few times during the upgrade. Finally it should boot the system with the previous version, but the SPL will be upgraded.
2. System+Radio+Kernel update. Download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3658919/android/vf_magic_froyo_aim3/vf_magic_frg83d_aim3_nohboot_s.zip (Mirror: http://content.wuala.com/contents/airadier/Android/vf_magic_frg83d_aim3_nohboot_s.zip?dl=1) and from recovery wipe Data and Cache. Apply update from recovery, the same way. It should reboot a few times and finally boot the system, updated to Froyo.
Installation (System-only installation)
If you already have SPL 1.33.0013 or 1.33.0013d, and radio 2.22.27.08 or 2.22.28.25, and want to install only the system files, then download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3658919/and...m3/vf_magic_frg83d_aim3_noradio_nohboot_s.zip (Mirror: http://content.wuala.com/contents/airadier/Android/vf_magic_frg83d_aim3_noradio_nohboot_s.zip?dl=1), and apply update from Recovery.
If you have an 32A, you should be able to use the System-only installation, and when finished, flash an appropiate kernel (the included kernel is for Magic 32B).
Tweak configuration
Latest version includes some performance tweaks which are applied on boot. There's no GUI for changing these settings, but they can be easily changed using a command line (for example adb shell).
First, get a root shell (adb shell, then su). Then you can use the command:
getprop propertyname
Click to collapse
to get the current value of a setting, and the command:
setprop propertyname newvalue
Click to collapse
to set a new value. The available setting parameters (Replace propertyname are:
persist.tweaks.ramzenabled: Enabled (if 1) or disabled (if 0) the compressed RAM swap. If not set, it defaults to 1 (enabled).
persist.tweaks.ramzsize: The size of the compressed in RAM swap memory, in KB. If not set, it defaults to 32768 (32MB). Don't try anything higher than the amount of memory in your system. I wouldn't recommend more than 65536 (64M).
persist.tweaks.swappiness: The swappiness parameter. A avlue between 0 and 100, defaults to 10. Tells the system how agressively try to move memory pages to the swap. I keep it to a low value, so pages are not swapped until more free RAM is needed.
persist.tweaks.cpuminfreq: The minimum CPU frequency. If not set, it defaults to 245760 (245Mhz). See the list of available frequencies with command:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
Click to collapse
persist.tweaks.cpumaxfreq: The maximumCPU frequency. If not set, it defaults to 595200 (595Mhz). That's a bit overclocking, but I find it perfectly stable. With higher frequencies (614Mhz) I get random reboots.
persist.tweaks.cpugovernor: The CPU frequency governor. Defaults to interactive, but you can try ondemand too.
Any change will require rebooting the system. If you get stuck with a change (phone can't boot), try using adb shell from recovery, mount /data partition, and remove the offending setting file from /data/property/persist.tweaks.xxxx
Add-ons
Gingerbread keyboard is not included anymore. You can install Gingerbread keyboard along with the Froyo keyboard. See this post.
Alternative kernels: For 32A or HTC/Dream you can try with other non-stock kernels. I would recommend trying Farmatito Kernel or the latest Magic 32B kernel from ezterry, search in Doid Basement. Here is the direct link to the latest ezterry version for Magic 32B/32A
Versions and updates
aim1 - 2010/12/25 (Christmas gift) - Initial release
2010/12/27 - Added "Revert to Froyo keyboard" add-on
2010/12/27 - Added mirrors for files
2011/01/09 - Removed one-step install, seems it's not working
aim2 - 2011/05/01 - New version
aim3 - 2011/05/09 - New version
Hmm,sounds good,how about some screenshots?
But i'm a bit skeptical about the SPL and Radio flash-ing,cuz i almost once bricked my phone

So after many attempts of trying to get my phone back to "factory" for OTA updates, I gave up very very late in the night and decided I'd just try this new ROM. I know I'm crazy since no one else has written of their attempts to try it - meaning I'm probably the first - and I'm a little worried at what I'm seeing. I followed your instructions for the 2-step version using Clockworkmod recovery and my right now my phone is stuck in the black loading screen that says "ANDROID". Its been on this screen for over half an hour. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take that long so I thought I'd go ahead and ask for tips now so I can work in it tomorrow. My T-Mobile myTouch 3G original (HTC Magic 32 B) phone was on CM6 (Froyo 2.2) before I revered it to factory 1.6 because of frustrations with Cyanogen's slow mod. T-Mobile's OTA updates weren't working because of recovery image issues so I figured I'd give you version a go. Yes, I realize this is the Vodafone version. Hablo español.
So should I try to reset my phone? Take the battery out? Am I bricked?
I don't think it's bricked, it just seems to be failing to boot the system. A logcat (adb logcat command) would help to diagnose the problem.
You should be able to boot to recovery. Did you wipe data and cache partitions?
Did the previous version boot after flashing first step? You can check the SPL on this step was correctly flashed by entering fastboot (vol down + power) and checking if Hboot version is 1.33.0013
I've tried the 2 step version successfuly in 2 htc magic by now.
Let me know about any progress.
Greets.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
I can't download any chance. Can you post them in another way?
I can't download from phone neither.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
I finally download it from computer, but I can't flash it. I've got this error:
Code:
E:Failure at line 6: assert getprop("ro.product.device") == "sapphire" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "saphire"
It works!
It works! Here's how...
It had been 6 hours and it was still stuck on the loading screen, so I pulled the battery.
I wipped my data and cache partitions again using the bootloading, although I'm pretty sure I had already done this. I must have needed to do it again.
The logcat seemed to have tons of errors, more than I could list here. A small copy-paste:

Anyway, after restarting twice the phone loaded! Froyo who-hoo! And I love the Gingerbread keyboard addition! This ROM is elegant - almost official OTA with just a touch of fixes. Cyangen's ROMs are over the top for me.
The only thing we've noticed after 30 minutes of testing is that it suggests Gmail be installed in the market, even though its already installed. Obviously this is because we have the newer version of gmail. But does this mean we will no longer get updates for Google applications? This concerns me - I don't want to have to rehack my phone every month - especially since I'm giving this to my brother.
Thanks for the great work and cool simple ROM.

It works! Here's how...
I wipped my data and cache partitions again using the bootloading, although I'm pretty sure I had already done this. I must have needed to do it again.
The logcat seemed to have tons of errors, more than I could list here. A small copy-paste:

Strange. I'm quite sure a Data + Cache wipe is needed except if you're coming from stock 1.6. The errors in the logcat seem to confirm this.

I think you should get the updates anyways. The only difference is, instead of having Maps 4.6 in SYSTEM partition, you have 5.0. The day Maps 5.x is out, it should show an update is available. I think showing it in the market as "Installed" is the normal behavior since the google apps were extracted in Froyo, or Eclair, I can't remember
I might be adding some optional packages (as updates.zip) soon. For example, I'm thinking of adding a patched version of Google Maps to force using Vector and 3D graphics instead of bitmap tiles. Also, maybe an update to revert to the standard Froyo keyboard.
I hope you enjoy it.

I finally download it from computer, but I can't flash it. I've got this error:
Code:
E:Failure at line 6: assert getprop("ro.product.device") == "sapphire" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "saphire"

The update script is checking that the installed ROM device or product is "sapphire", and it's failing. Maybe the ROM you're using right now uses another device identifier?
I could remove the check, but it was included in the original updater, and I think it's safer this way. You could try flashing cyanogenmod or the stock vodafone 1.6 first, then updating.
Greets.

How are you booting recovery? Are you using "adb reboot recovery" command? If so, it looks like the perfect SPL won't allow you to run that command.
You must enter recovery by powering the phone off, and then pressing Home + Power On button. Keep pressing them until you're on recovery.
Greets.
i tried fastboot boot recovery. I tried home + power on several times but all i get is exclamation mark screen, with some kind of recovery where i can update from sd:update.zip and this also fails: verification fails

Ok, don't panic, the fix is easy. The exclamation mark screen is the stock recovery, that allows you to flash only HTC signed update.zip file. As this update is not signed by HTC, it throws the "verification fails" error.
So, how to fix it? You need to flash a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or AmonRA, for example), because the SPL won't allow you to boot the recovery from fastboot.
You need to have your current ROM rooted, if it's not already. If not rooted, check SuperOneClick Root in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Once rooted, you can flash the recovery using flash_image command from an adb shell, or easier, install RomManager from the market and install recovery from there.
Just make sure the recovery is for Magic 32B or Dream. I think last time I used ROM Manager I choose "HTC Magic", and a recovery for Magic 32A was installed, so the recovery wouldn't boot. I discovered I had to choose "HTC Dream" instead, as the recovery for Dream works for HTC Magic 32B too.
Once installed, using the "Home + PowerOn" you should boot into the new recovery (clockwork or AmonRA), and it should allow you to flash the update. If you get "verification failed" error, check that "signature verification" is toggled off (there's an option in the recovery to enable/disable it).
I hope it hellps. Greets.
Radio Installation didnt work
i just tried this rom because CM6.1 is still to slow for me somehow.
it stopped after unpacking radio pack and tried to installe it..aborted installation.
All wiped and partitioned before.

Hi!
I have some questions:
1. are there any differences between the Spanish 2.2.1 OTA ROM and the 2.2.1 UK ROM? What are the languages supported?
2. I come from spl 1.33.0013d and radio 2.22.27.08: what are the drawbacks of installing a perfect spl such as the 1.33.0013?
Thank you!

1. I don't know, as I haven't checked the UK ROM, but probably they are both the same. In the spanish vodafone update there's support for english too.
2. SPL 1.33.0013d should work too. It's a modified version of 0013 to allow some additional operations. No need to install 0013. Radio 2.22.27.08 works too, but latest version, the one shipped with the vodafone update, is 2.22.28.25.
Greets.
For those who don't want to upgrade to a perfected spl (Want to stick to engineering spl) and are willing to accept the lower ram count I added ezterry's biffmod kernel/wifi module (oh and also added News and Weather app).
You can download it @ http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7812800/Android/vf_magic_frg83d_eng-signed.zip
Also if you want to use it without sim flash this after the main zip.. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7812800/Android/Froyo_Provision.zip
Hope this helps anyone.

Android Versions/History:
The version history of the Android operating system began with the release of version 1.0 in September 2008. Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. Android has seen a number of updates since its original release. These updates to the base operating system typically fix bugs and add new features. Generally, each version is developed under a code name based on a dessert item. The code names are in alphabetical order (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and the future version, Ice Cream Sandwich).

How To: Backup or Restore via Nandroid
Nandroid allows you to create a complete system image of your device and stores it to the SD Card on your phone. Making one is very simple but there are a few prerequisites.
1. A rooted Android phone
2. A custom recovery that supports Nandroid (ie: Amon_RA, ClockworkMod, Etc.)
3. A MicroSD card that has enough space for a system image.
A complete image can range from 75-400 MB.
Please follow this link for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_backup_or_recover_via_Nandroid
How To: Check if your phone is S-OFF or S-ON and your HBOOT version
1. Disable Fast Boot. (Setting > Power > uncheck Fast Boot)
2. Turn off your phone.
3. Turn on your phone by pressing the power button and volume down button together.
4. You will see a white screen with "S-OFF" or "S-ON" and your hboot version on top of the screen.
NOTE: If your phone is S-ON, you won't be able to root or flash custom ROMs to your phone. To make it S-OFF, follow the guide below.
How To: S-Off your device with Revolutionary: S-OFF & Recovery Tool (For HBOOT 0.98.0000, 0.98.0002)
Unrevoked and Alpharev present: Revolutionary Tool
Please also read the documentation page for this tool: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Does Revolutionary give me root? No. You will need to flash this zipfile from recovery. (It's better to just skip this.)
S-OFF your phone using Ubuntu:
1. Download Ubuntu 11.04 from the Ubuntu site.
2. Burn image onto DVD/CD or create a USB Stick (I suggest creating USB stick since it loads faster, for me). (Follow instructions provided at the website to create a bootable CD or a USB Stick).
3. Reboot computer. Allow Bootup popup menu (usually F8?).
4. Select DVD/CD-drive or USB Stick to boot Ubuntu.
5. Wait a bit for things to load. Choose "Try Ubuntu".
6. Now, Ubuntu should load up successfully. (see screenshot)
7. Connect phone to your computer and make sure that Debugging Mode is enabled on your phone. Download the tool from http://revolutionary.io/ for Linux (Firefox included with Ubuntu). Keep that browser window open.
8. Extract the downloaded file and put it into the root directory (in Ubuntu, that's Ubuntu/Ubuntu, if I recall correctly).
9. Search for the Terminal (Windows key pops up the search, I think; otherwise, it's the icon on the top left corner of your screen), run Terminal.
10. Type in "sudo ./revolutionary" at Terminal.
11. It'll provide a key. Go back to the browser window where you downloaded Revolutionary tool - there's a form to fill out. Type in the key. It'll generate a second key. Type that key into the Terminal.
12. Make sure it says that everything is successful. It'll ask if you want to flash Clockwork. Type in "Y".
13. Once it shows success, reboot phone.
S-OFF your phone using Windows:
1. Download Revolutionary tool for Windows from http://revolutionary.io/ (Keep the browser open)
2. Extract the zip file to a new folder.
3. Connect phone to your computer and make sure that Debugging Mode is enabled on your phone.
4. Open the new folder and right click on "revolutionary.exe" and select run as administrator.
5. Follow steps from Step 11 above.
WARNING: S-OFF your device will void your phone's warranty. You will need to turn it back to S-ON for warranty. (I don't have a guide to make it back to S-ON right now, so do it as you wish).
How to: S-OFF (Video)
How to: Restore stock ROM and S-On after S-Off
You phone needs warranty? You might need your device back to S-ON mode. Try following this guide to make it S-ON, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187231. I'm not sure if this works 100% all the time because I personally haven't tried this one yet. If this guide works for you, congratulations, if not, try asking around this forum.
How to: Root your device
1. You can achieve root by using Gingerbreak. Follow this link and guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
2. Or, by using SuperOneClick *recommended* (ROOT ALMOST ALL ANDROID DEVICES): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
3. Or, you can flash this zipfile from recovery (Source: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary).
(You can skip this if you're about to flash a custom ROM since custom ROM are pre-rooted. Unless you want to keep your original ROM, use this to root your device.)
Custom ROMS:
Custom roms can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146601 or head to the development section.
(Most of these ROMs are pre-rooted, which means that you don't need to root your phone after flashing one of the custom ROM.)
How To: Flash Custom ROMs using Recovery (Method 1)
(You can use your default recovery from Revolutionary tool but I recommend using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377745)
1. Copy your custom ROM "zip" file to your SD card (Root directory).
2. Turn off your phone.
3. Turn on your phone by holding the power button and the volume down button together.
4. Once you see the white screen, choose "Recovery"
5. Make a full wipe/format and clear all cache.
6. Choose "install from sdcard/zip file" and then choose your Custom ROM zip file from your SD card to flash your Custom ROM.
Optional: If you want to use 4EXTRecovery, just flash it like you are flashing your custom ROM(Step 6). Just do it before you flash your new ROM.
How To: Flash Custom ROMs using ROM Manager (Method 2)
(This method might be easier for flashing ROM updates or add-ons)
1. Go to ROM Manager (You can install this software from the Android Market.)
2. If you want to use 4EXTRecovery, please follow steps below, and if you're not using 4EXTRecovery, please skip to step 6)
3. Press your phone's option's button and choose Manual Flash Override.
4. Press OK and choose your phone model.
5. Choose ClockworkMod 3.x (After these steps, your ROM Manager won't ask you to flash new recovery again when flashing new a ROM)
6. Reboot into Recovery and make a full wipe/format and clear all cache then reboot.
7. Now, from your ROM Manager, choose Install ROM from SD Card.
Note: Flashing ROMs can be vary, some custom ROMs may require you to flash some of their own file first. Eg, The LBC Mod ROM requires you to flash "WIPE zip file" before flashing the ROM. Read their instructions carefully to know more.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any faulty or bricked devices after S-OFF or flashing new ROMs. Do it at your own risk.
How To: Flash a ROM in a "Perfect" Way (Method 3 - Recommended)
A great guide from vampire36 for people who encounter the following problems:
1. The ROM you flashed gets stuck on HTC screen (bootloop) while the same ROM works right for others
2. You get the same kernel and radio yet you find your cell to have more battery drain than others
3. Finally some strange force closes and restarts but works perfect for others
So this is basically one of the most perfect way to flash a custom ROM and is a way to help people who face such issues.
Please head to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257731 to see full instructions and discussions.
How To: Flash Custom ROM (Video)
How to: Flash Radios
1. Download your Radio zip package.
2. Copy your Radio zip package to your SDcard root directory and rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
3. Turn off your phone and turn it back on by pressing volume down and power button together (You need to turn off fastboot under phone settings > power options).
4. Once you're in hboot, the bootloader will ask you if you want to install radio.img, just press yes. (Volume up means "YES", and volume down means "NO")
5. Once the radio flashing is complete press your power button once to reboot device. Done!
Note: You must delete your Radio zip package or rename it to something else when booting your phone after flashing new radio image since the bootloader will always try to flash if a PG88IMG.zip file is on your SDcard.

How to: Root, install EXT4 recovery and custom ROM on HBOOT 2.00.0002
For device with S-ON and a new HBOOT version 2.00.0002. Some ROMs may require you to flash "boot.img" if you're using this method (not needed if you S-OFF your device using "revolutionary" and has older HBOOT), check the ROM thread for info and guidelines.

How to: Upgrade to new HBOOT version 2.00.2002 / Downgrade to old HBOOT
This is my own guide, I did this on my own phone and it works. This guide is according to those guides made by others(link below), I just made it even more simplified.
1. Download 2.00.2002 hboot.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1288640&d=1346184448 (Thanks to Thantos)
2. Copy the downloaded hboot.img to the root of your SD-Card.
3. Reboot into recovery mode.
4. Do a backup of your ROM using nandroid backup in recovery. (Optional, just in case something goes wrong, but I did not do this.)
5. When your phone is in recovery mode state, open up your command prompt (type cmd in run) in windows and type the following commands.
- adb devices
- adb shell
- su
6. You should now see the sign "#" at your command prompt. Now, backup your hboot by typing, "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img" without quotes.
7. Now, flash your new hboot by entering this "dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18" without the quotes.
8. Your phone should now have the latest hboot. If you reboot to your boot loader, you should see something like this.
*** LOCKED ***
SAGA PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.2002 (PG8810000)
9. Reboot your phone into recovery mode again and "Wipe cache and delvik cache" then restart your phone if you already have a ROM installed or you could flash a new ROM but make sure you make a full format instead.

FAQs:
1. What's S-OFF and S-ON?
- In a nutshell, S-OFF means that the NAND portion of the device is unlocked and can be written to. The default setting for HTC’s devices is S-ON, which means that neither can you access certain areas of the system nor can you guarantee a permanent root. (Source: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...on-htc-android-phones-with-unrevoked-forever/)
(NOTE: S-OFF is not ROOT, S-OFF your device does not mean that your device is Rooted. They are totally two different things.)

- You will need to root your device first using Gingerbreak(see above). And then, install Titanium Backup and use that to backup all your apps and your apps' data files.
3. I have WiFi death grip/Wifi signal drops when I hold my phone in certain ways.
- There are no 100% right fixes yet for this issue but give it a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175646
4. Is it possible to install 4EXTRecovery/Flashing ROMs/ROOT on Desire S with S-ON?
- No, it is not possible. You must/need "S-OFF" to customize your device.
5. I've just received this system update OTA - 1.47.61.1 or later. If I install it, will I loose my S-OFF and root?
- Yes, you will lose both S-OFF and root once you update because it will update the hboot to 0.98.0002. However, you can try following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16110608&postcount=5 to update the OTA but not the hboot. Check this one out also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190992 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194488 to S-OFF and root if you have updated the OTA.
6. How will I brick my device? and how to prevent it?
- Follow this thread to find out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226849
7. What is a "Stock ROM" ?
- Stock ROM is basically one that comes straight from HTC with no amendments and probably the one that your phone came with out of the box! -ben_pyett

The only thing you should do is to keep it updated.. thats all

Can you please note in the downgrade HBOOT section that RUU 1.46 or greater can not be downgraded as yet, since gingerbreak does not work on these RUUs. Would save a lot of people asking why they can't downgrade.
Thanks for the support guys. I've added some new guides today. If I made some mistakes and need corrections on those guides, please do inform me. I'm always here to improve it. Thanks!

I'm looking for how to make an update.zip with this firmware Dapeng.

Dear XDA Noobs and Gurus,
U have this lousy DaPang Dpad which I want to flash, restore, re-rom and just redo. I have managed to completely unlock it and root it but the rom is not available to be backed up or restored. I checked out the root folders and no rom. I have scoured the web and this forum for valuable information but have come up short...
I am unable to get to fastboot mode or find a rom manager that works with it. IF I press the power button, volume rocker up and the menu button, it takes me to "Factory Mode" which has, "Full Test", "Item Test", "Test Report", "Clear Flash", "Version" and "Reboot". Nothing else. I cannot seem to find a restore screen or find a way to restore/flash the original rom or even a new one. I have done my homework around this issue and if there is someone out there that might help me here, great, if not, I will keep plugging away.
Thank you for any help (in advance). Oh and Happy Holidays (Merry Christmas)!

hey jayguruson if u press vol. up + power u will end up at the recovery mode, where u can flash / install 'update.zip' file. i tried to install DSP (equalizer) and uRevoke (some sort of custom recovery mode but were meant for a certain brand phone) but failed. it just stopped halfway. i also used titanium backup to save a backup file (update.zip..inside there is a META-INF and data files, is this the rom backup file?).

I finally decided to look at the datasheet after I couldn't find any useful info to overclock MT6516, & I don't think it can be done. MT6516's max speed is 416Mhz (not 460Mhz) and it's already set to run max speed by default. Even if we manage to configure the scaling governor, that would have been futile (unless you want underclocking )
It would be nice to hear opinions from the real experts here though.

i tried widget overclock. it shows 200+. am i right to assume that is the A8500 speed running. if that is the speed then it can be overclocked, probably to 400 or 500.
i also tried setcpu. it shows a reading of max speed about 500+ but it can't run, always FC.
my understanding is, if the stock rom can be re-packaged (hopefully with a customized 'kernel') and re-flashed back, then the rom will become a customized rom. and all overclock program will only works with a customized rom/kernel.

update zip file
here's the titanium backup update zip file for whoever can make use of it. i m not very sure if it is the original rom file. i created it with titanium backup pro.
http://www.4shared.com/folder/q7JWoBJX/_online.html
i m also not very sure of this upload file. 1st time doing this uploading. i can't upload with megaupload and a few other becos my country malaysia had blocked those sites. so i hope those who have files for sharing can also upload to 4share. tq
Hi cwkhong ,
to start thank you,but the files that are needed is not in the update.zip titanium.
If you want, I will explain how to quickly extract the whole system of Dapeng it's very easy because I need it urgently
1)you need rooted your Dapeng with z4root in Dapeng tools :
(after installed z4root,execute click on permanent root and after the Dapeng re-boot and you rooted)
2)you need install RootExplorer in Dapeng tools.
3)Open RootExplorer and copy the file system (for copy you need long press on the file)
4)open file sdcard in RootEplorer and past, wait for the copy
5) you upload the file system
(Have no fear, no personal data is in system)
There is another way to extract all: boot.img, system, recovery.
This method by the SDK is very interesting in the future if you want to manipulate the system Dapeng and see many other things.
I think I'll need (boot.img) to create an update.zip for recovery by the Dapeng and to provide a ROM for other people who have blocked their Dapeng A8500.
1)you need rooted your Dapeng with z4root here in Dapeng tools :
(after installed z4root,execute click on permanent root and after the Dapeng re-boot and you rooted)
2)you need install the SDK on your PC,just copy SDK file in C:/ :
3)you go in Dapeng and active "débogage USB"in Paramètres/applications/développement.
4)now you follow this tutorial :

Hi,
in the Dapeng tools there is a clockrecovery-update.zip, renamed update.zip, you copy your SD and get into the recovery to original flash update.zip.
Then to activate the button return to confirm press: Vol + and return to activate the confirmation button with return key.(insist if not work)
Now not need to sign update.zip for this clockrecovery but is tempory after re-boot not installed, look here:

speakers issue
hello there it's been awhile, any development?
anyway i wonder if there is a way to adjust the phone speakers setting, front and back. i find the sound loud but distorted, very high pitch near crackling. or maybe it is the speakers itself, poor quality. if so, is it possible to replace the speakers on my own without sending to phone shop. i have a few old phones with okay speaker quality.
that's it?
so nothing? it is frustrating to see improvements on those A1000,A2000,A3000..etc but nothing for A8500. guess i'll just use it as a phone, what a shame.

Hi Bruno,
I happily used the phone for about seven months.
Everything was great until I installed ROM Tool Box, and as soon I installed some larger system font, the phone died instant death. I've tried flashing tools but, by using half a knowledge combined with even lesser:silly: patience, the result is that now I can't even get to the new Android boot logo. Here are the ROM details:

Android Ice Cream Sandwich for HD for all 900yer base on the Hi3716C Soc
Hello dear friends I managed to get working a new Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 based on the 3.0.8 kernel and the update zips.
Requirements:
An Eboda HD for all 900 player (If you don't have one, buy one )
The device must be up to date with the latest original v1.0.0.r938 rom. The download page can be found here
An sdcard/usb-stick formated using FAT file system with at least 256 MB free space
Lots of guts (If you follow the procedure right nothing bad should happen)

You accept this risk on your own !!!.

Instalation Procedure:
Be Aware that the install procedure will delete all data from the internal SD-CARD !!!
So back-up everything that is important
Get an USB-stick/SD-Card
Format the USB-Stick/SD-Card using FAT file system
Copy update_system.zip and update.zip to the USB-Stick/SD-Card
Make sure that you TV is switched on and the Player is connected to it
Shut down the player
Unplug any storage (USB-Sticks, SD-Cards, External or Internal Hard-Drives)
Unplug the power cable from the player
Insert the USB-Stick/SD-Card into the player
Push the player power button and keep it held down
With the power button held down plug in the player's power cable
Keep the player's power button held down for at least 5 seconds (you should be now in recovery mode)
Now the update procedure will start you will be able to see it happening on the TV
The update procedure has 2 main stages, after stage 1 it will reboot and continue the second one.
When the second stage will finish the updater progress bar will reach 100%
Wait till the second stage finishes then unplug the power cable and plug it back to boot the device
Congratulation !!! you flashed Android 4.0.3 on Eboda HD for all 900
Click to collapse
Do not install any original/non original rom made by EBODA or whatever over this 4.0.3 version !!! It can brick your device permanently !!!
If you want to come back to the original v1.0.0.r938 you will find the instruction bellow.
After coming back to the factory version with the bellow procedure to v1.0.0.r938 you can install what ever ROM you wish on your own risk.
Installation Notes:
The installation will happen in 2 stages, the player will reboot once and continue with stage 2
After the second stage finishes you must unplug the power cable and plug it back again to boot the device.
This is necessary because of a bug in the new 3.0.8 kernel that does not handle well the power management.
Click to collapse
Not Working:
The shut down. When you shut down the player it will enter in sleep mode.
Shunting down by command line will generate a kernel panic and the device will freeze,
case in which you need to unplug the power cable.

What is next:
Fixing the shutdown
Demystifying and eventually finding out why the player uses only 256 MB of RAM
Adding XBMC
Adding a launcher more suitable for a media player
Adding more specific media player stuff, like apps etc..

The files and the links are ok.The names of the zips are the same, that is right, but the content ins different. The update_system for the 4.0.3 and 938 are similar in size but the differences are:
update_system.zip for 4.0.3 is similar in size to the 938 but the content is slightly different. The 4.0.3 has a different bootargs.img that has been modified for the 4.0.3 rom, the boot.img (the bootloader) for the 4.0.3 is the same as for 938 with the only difference that has been patched because it hold a hard-coded partition layout for the recovery, and the recovery is completely the same.
update.zip for 4.0.3 is completely different from the one for the 9.3.8
So the files are as posted:
For 4.0.3:
update_system.zip https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogqnyasiafz4126/update_system.zip 7.96 MB
update.zip https://www.dropbox.com/s/t90did16in2whe6/update.zip 108.53 MB
For the 938
update_system.zip https://www.dropbox.com/s/wh1m1oq4xtif41n/update_system.zip 7.08 MB
update.zip https://www.dropbox.com/s/dec9fmqtai30tv4/update.zip 95.26 MB
Please don't forget to give me some feedback if you install and test it.
Best Regards

Hello I also reproduced the issue reported by you.
It seams that when going from the original 938 to 4.0.3 the device gets a kernel panic because of some wrong combination of kernel and recovery.
Looking forward to fix it.
Please give me your phone number so, I can talk about the next steps of fixing your device.
Best Regards

The bug was fixed now, but unfortunately your device is bricked and it can be restored only by using a ttl-serial to usb or tt-serial to RS-232 (computer old serial port) adapter.
Please send be your device by post and I will restore it for you since bricking it was my fault
if is not possible I can provide detailed instructions how to restore it.
Best Regards
Veolo
Salut, am un AC RYAN VEOLO, stiu ca e cam acelasi lucru cu Eboda HD900, as putea incerca acest firmware sau risc prea mult?
Merci
