I'll give it a try o my HTC Sensation
I hope you know you've already made it to the front page over at life hacker. Great job. Lol
BTW this works great on my mytouch 4G.
Thanks.
Tip from personal experience, I find this easier when doing it opposite from the video.
In other words instead of turning it away from you, bring it from away towards you as a flying in sort of way.
Hope this helps.

No harm in trying it..........Thanks for the great share!!!!
Great idea, very handy app, working fine on rooted GT I9000 (JVP) with supercurio's kernel. Using the Pro version from the market. It's kinda hard to be accurate with the flicks lol, but I guess practice and a play around with the settings will change that.
Good work mate, will be following this one
can ROM devs include it in their ROM?
Life hacker , wow !
Thank you for your comments.

Great concept, however under the Permissions tab in the Market it says it prevents the device from sleeping. Is this a big thing to be worried about or?
Can the device still go into sleep mode, yes or no? I ask because usually I let my devices go to sleep.
Thanks

No problem about that. The motion detection service was disable when the screen is off or when the device sleep.
I use this permission to remove the "auto dim brightness" when the brightness dialog appear...
API : PowerManager.SCREEN_DIM_WAKE_LOCK

Thanks for clarifying that.
Works great. Thanks, this is what I needed for my N1.
I feel that it would be easier to flick up and down/towards and away but I guess that's just personal preference. Kind of difficult to test while on the go when you have start on boot locked. Very nice concept.
Nice. Looking forward to more features.

cool app, but there's a minor defect:
move your phone so that the brightness dialog is shown. after that press the home-button until the recent-apps screen is shown. choose "brightness motion" --> it shows the brightness dialog again instead of the brightness motion settings screen.

PRO VERSION:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...z.screenoffpro
Youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e-TXcSM6GE
Want to feel what gestures can do? here's an application which will let you turn of your screen just with a swipe!! yes that's right!! All you have to do is swipe your hand over the proximity sensor (Located near the earpiece on top of the phone).
Motivation to build this app:
1) While the phone is in pocket, and you have your bluetooth headset connected, even though you can answer your call with a click of bluetooth headset button, because the screen goes on and remains on, your call may hang-up or go on hold or probably few buttons may get pressed, isn't that annoying?
2) Lot of android phones don’t turn off the screen when phone is held close ear (You may end up hanging up on someone)
3) Accidental call pickups: Since capacitive screens are sensitive to touch as well as heat, An Incoming call gets picked up automatically when phone is in the pocket (And we get obliged to speak to annoying calls)
4) Its Cool!!!
5) If you are a HD2 user, you would know the pain. Many users have replaced that hardware buttons due to usage!!!
Pro Features:
Pocket/Flip or Smart Cover Mode: Turns screen OFF when sensor covered and ON when uncovered. (Feature requested by Galaxy Note users)
Swipe to Screen Off: Turn OFF the screen by sliding your hand
Cover to Screen Off: Turn OFF the screen by Covering the sensor for a duration of time (Cover and Hold)
Cover to Screen On: Turn ON the screen by Covering the sensor for a duration of time (Cover and Hold) - Note: This can cause Battery Drain
Ignore Apps list: Add the apps/games where you want to disable the service
Widget: to start and stop the service
ScreenOff shortcut: to turn off the screen by launching the app.
Sensor Configuration : Based on your device select the sensor of your choice, or the one that's available and configure their values, as they are different for different devices.
Enable screen on/off during calls only
Disable call handling completely
De-Activate sensors after timeout
Override power button and screen-on by other apps (Phone is in pocket and you get a call or you accidentally press the power button, screen will remain off)
Prevent accidental screen on
Vibration on screen On/Off
Pro Changelog:
v3.3:
Fixed the InCallOnly mode, sensor is active only during the senor, thereby saving power.
Added new battery saving feature: "De-Activate sensors after timeout". You can set a value in minutes and sensors will be de-activated after timeout and re-activated only when screen turns on.
Upgraded the Ignore list UI and included even the system apps.
v3.2:
Fixed flickering on ScreenON
Fixed lock screen/keyguard disable (Use option "Locks phone on screenOn" under "All settings" to enable lock screen)
v3.1:
Notification icon on status bar can be disabled/enabled now from "All Settings"
Lite Features:
1) Turn off the screen by sliding your hand
2) Turn off the screen by Covering the sensor for a duration of time (Tap and Hold)
3) Turn on the screen by Covering the sensor for a duration of time (Tap and Hold) - Note: This can cause Battery Drain
4) Enable screen on/off during calls only
5) ScreenOff shortcut, to turn off the screen by launching the app.
6) Based on your device select the sensor of your choice, or the one that's available and configure their values, as they are different for different devices.

- Added faded borders, with a setting to disable it
- Added arrow to the "Unlock" display

- Added battery percentage display in the status bar
- Improved the UI to give more space to the notifications

- Increased swipe sensitivity
- Unlocked banners setting for free version
- Bug fixes
Woah, now that looks slick. Will give it a go!
Loving this. Been using since yesterday and I have two notes on it.
First, for some reason the blue notification bubbles that explain immersive mode (see screen shot) reappear every so often even though I select OK to acknowledge them.
Second, some way to indicate the swiping direction to unlock versus open the camera would be cool, even just a single arrow next to the "unlock" text. After a day I've become accustomed to it, but at first I kept opening the camera.
Other than that this is awesome.

1) Apparently there is no way to control this behavior. This is controlled by the new Android 4.4 "Immersive mode" that allows hiding the navbar. We don't know why it keeps showing up again yet. This may be a bug in the build, it's only supposed to show up once per app install.
2) That's a good idea. We will try to implement this.

This could be an interesting feature.
One other idea I had. I LOVE the notifications on this, but could you have it so you press to view and then you could swipe either direction to dismiss?

This its a basic feature, it is already in the apk.
Does it show the content of Whatsapp messages (even with 2 or more messages)?

As far as I'm aware you have to swipe to view a notification, and swipe the other way to dismiss it. I think press to view and swipe either way to dismiss would be more intuitive.

Falling in love with this lockscreen. My major complaint is that it apparently continues to close as I've had several instances throughout the day when it didn't open until I opened the app.
Is this being worked on? Also is there an option to open a custom app instead of just the camera?

Wow, that looks cool! Reminds me of iOS's lockscreen.
App is great and after five minutes I bought the pro version. But one problem for me. After unlock there's noticeable delay in showing the home screen. I see the full empty lockscreen wallpaper for some time before fully unlocking. And maybe the clock could be little lower since it's almost touching the clear status bar

This may be caused by a memory leak, we are on it. About the app shortcuts, we don't know how to implement this in a classy way yet.
Hello,
Really nice app.
I have the same problem as Gnaver on my Galaxy S4, it take quite some times after unlocking to display the homescreen.
Great lockscreen, but I would like to see music controls, and polish language (I can help in translating)

Nope, only the first message is displayed, if there are more than one then there's something like "whatsapp - 2 messages"

As everyone knows there is no Ambient Light Sensor on our Galaxy Core..for sensing the light in background to automatically adjust the screen brightness..
But here's an app by Cyb3rGlitch named LUX that is compatible with all android phones.

It uses the camera of the device to sense the light in the background.
If the device has Ambient Light Sensor it uses The sensor... But if it does not have a sensor it uses the camera of the device..to adjust the brightness of the screen..

App Description
Lux isn't your ordinary brightness app. It intelligently adjusts the brightness of your display based on the environment you're in. If, for example, you step into a dimly lit room, Lux will automatically lower the brightness of your display to make it not only comfortable to read, but to also preserve battery power.
Lux provides the option to automatically adjust the backlight at fixed intervals (periodic mode), when a change in environment is detected (dynamic mode), or when the phone wakes from sleep. It's also possible to adjust the backlight manually. Simply disable automatic mode and you can use it like a traditional brightness tool!
Perhaps the best thing about Lux is that you can teach it how to behave. If the backlight is too bright or dim for your liking, simply open the provided Dashboard, adjust the brightness slider to the level you desire, then hold the link button. Lux will use this new 'link' as a reference in future.
Give it a go! I want you to test Lux for more than the 15 minute refund period offered by Google. I understand that some devices may not have the best quality light sensor, and that you may need more time to play around with settings. If you find that Lux doesn't suit you after the 15 minutes is up, you can request a refund at any time via e-mail - no questions asked.

Troubleshooting - General
When I reply to a message directly from the notification, my keyboard darkens.
General -> More -> Prority fix
My space bar doesn't work as well anymore or I sometimes accidentally trigger actions.
Switch to "Enhanced mode". This can be done on the overview page.
Set "Keyboard adaption" (Behaviour -> Usability) to "click-permeable".

Troubleshooting - Navigation bar hider (1.1.9+)
I have a thin line at the edge of the display.
General-> Navigation bar hider -> Force complete hide
The navigation bar is visible in landscape mode.
General-> Navigation bar hider -> Navigation bar position -> Choose your position
I have uninstalled the app but the navigation bar is still hidden!
Execute “adb shell wm overscan reset”
My device has a notch and the navigation bar is not hidden correctly.
Please set the correct size once by yourself: General -> Navigation bar hider -> Other -> Custom size
Since one of the last updates (Android P) the navigation bar hider doesn't work anymore.
I'm working on a fix. If your device does not have Notch, the problem can be solved by deactivating the "Notch adaptation" (General -> Navigation bar hider -> Other). If the device has a notch, then the option "Custom Size" (see question one above) can be used.

Since version 1.1.9.0 (beta) and 1.1.9.2 (stable) there is a built-in navigation bar hider.
I updated the post and the changelog again.
The new update 1.2.6.4 is online since today. Now also non beta users can export, import and share sensor bars. Since the import of sensor bars is not subject to any restrictions (all types, settings and actions possible), the function is currently only available in the donation version.
If someone has configured an especially great/functional sensor bar, he can send it to me or upload it here. I may also include special concepts as templates in future versions.
Fantastic app, thanks !
Are there any templates/bar samples available to download?

It already has a "fluid" animation, but it is a little small (linked to trigger area width?) and would be great if there were icons to identify the action being triggered (like fluidng and others).
I love this app & also have bought the premium license. But I can't find option to simple menu button (in MIUI navbar there is an option to swap between recent & menu button).
I'm sorry it takes me so long to answer. I have now activated the e-mail notifications. If you have any problems or suggestions and I don't answer here, please feel free to send me an e-mail to [email protected] at any time.

Yeah, you're right, there are apps with better animations. Unfortunately, it is not my special field, I prefer to develop functions that don't depend on the look. If I should have some free space, I will try to optimize it a bit.

As far as I know, there is no way to trigger the menu key without root privileges. Therefore the option is only available in the root actions.
