I recently unlocked/rooted my Xoom and flashed Tiamat 1.4.4 kernel. At some point over the next few days, I noticed that my Xoom was randomly doing full reboots periodically while idle with the screen off. I started backing my overclock down from 1.5, to 1.4, and then to the stock 1.0ghz. I have also tried doing a full factory wipe from CFW and then restoring from the backup I created when I first flashed the kernel, and the reboots still persist. I also find it odd that I can run a stress test in SetCPU for 1+ hour with no reboot or hang. Is anyone else having this issue on this kernel? Is my only option to flash back to the stock kernel? Could this be a hardware issue?

I did have this, about once or twice per day with 1.4.4. After I updated to Tiamat ROM 1.0, I have had no spontaneous reboots.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any idea what piece of the ROM might have caused the fix? There are parts of the Tiamat ROM that I don't need, and would like to avoid what I can. Also, does anyone know of an app that will create an event log that will stay throughout a reboot to help troubleshoot the cause? I tried OSMonitor but it wipes on reboot.

If you did not wipe data or caches, that could be your culprit. Anyways Altered Beast is a pretty old ROM and has not been updated in a while. There are more recent kernels than that too. Reflash and it should fix your problem.
Good point, although I like the theme, colors, and stuff, it is getting old. What do you suggest for kernel and ROM....I'm ready to try a new combo.

I was on AB when I first came to the Charge (my first smart phone). I Odined over GummyCharged 1.9.1 FE and never looked back. Now I'm part of Team GummyCharged as thread support. I came a long way. Lol.
Check out the developer forum.
Use gummy, eclipse or stock debloated. Gummy has nothing that intrigues me until they release 2.0, stock debloated is cool if you just want a good stock rooted experience and eclipse is a really nice looking version of stock, themed after touchwiz 4. As for the kernel? Just use the latest PBJ non-otb for best battery life.

I have a stock Droid Charge and mine randomly restarts too sometimes, and I've only had my phone a week.
I experience these random restarts a lot when I am using a custom ROM/kernel.
Doesn't matter what ROM I try the random restarts happen. I always wipe factory setting, cache, and dalvik cache before each install.
When I revert back to stock the problem goes away.
If anyone has more info on why these random restarts happen that'd be great.
Have you undervolted? Undervolting by too much seems to be the main cause of freezes and restarts for me.

Do you use Titanium Backup? Overclock or undervolt at all?
I noticed if I keep flashing without going back to stock first it happens to me as well. No matter what kernel. I also wipe and clear setrings

Same questions that I asked asxa86. Give me some info to work with please.
Well I mainly used GC w/PB&J which undervolts. So I was thinking my processor just couldn't handle the undervolting but then I just tried GC 2.0 recently which uses a new kernel and I'm still getting the random restarts.
I actually went to verizon today and got them to send me a replacement phone to see if i'm having hardware failure. Which doesn't make sense unless these custom ROMs/kernels are stressing my system more than stock would...
To answer the original question, i do not use titanium back up.
This is my process:
stock ED1 + PIT file flashed with odin
OTA EE4 update
Phone runs completely fine other than the usual laggyness of the stock phone
-root phone using ED1 root flashed with odin
-CWM flashed with odin
-factory rest, cache, and dalvik cache wipe
-install through CWM GC 2.0
everytime there is a new GC I get excited and flash the new ROM to my phone only to experience the random restarts the next day
Well, see if your replacement likes everything better, then you'll know it was your hardware.

Ok, replacement phone came in today. I am reverting my old phone back to stock so it can be shipped back to verizon. Once I have my new phone up and running I will install gummycharge and see how everything works.
Just to be safe I had installed gummycharge 2.0 on my old phone and like I thought it would it ended up restarting itself x2 yesterday.
So having acquired the replacement phone and installing GC 2.0 FE on it. The phone went almost a full day with out restarting itself...
Don't know what to do now.

I am experiencing the same issues on Gummy 2.0
My install method is:
Odin 1.9, boot to configuration, then cwm Gummy 2.0.
When I was previously on the Gingerbread Gummy I did not have this issue.
I have been experiencing this issue since I first began doing theses flashes.
I started with gummy 1.8.1 have tried other ROMs and even Gingerbread ROMs. It never fails. I get random restarts. I asked verizon for a replacement phone, got one and tried flashing again....random restart.
My process I stated above.
Hello everyone I'm new to this so here goes. Arhd 6.1.5 I would randomly get freezes ever so often I ignored however because I saw 6.2..I downloaded 6.2 and I super wiped. And flashed the correct radio. But I am still getting random freezes forcing me to pull battery. The freezes usually happen when I lock my screen and go to unlock it. The 4 capacitive buttons light up then It freezes. I don't understand why I keep getting freezes. Starting to happen more often now with 6.2 also I tried turning my CPU settings Down but still no help.

When you say you superwiped before install do you also wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and battery stats(just because lol)...do you also restore any data and/apps with tibu

I wiped everything since I had problems with this rom at version 6.1.5 so i went ahead and wiped everything and downloaded all my stuff again to see if this helped, but it did not work. I don't use titanium backup. I figured just wiping everything and redownloading all my stuff would work, I did have a backup though just in case it didnt work, so I restored that after I saw I still got freezes.
Have you tried other roms or kernels? I'd suggest Coredroid. I've tried several others and find it to be the most stable.

are you OCing or UVing? Have you changed radios/kernels recently? I know when I UVing too much my phone loves to freeze. I would say try a ROM that doesn't OC out of the gate as believe ARHD has there rom set to 1.2 I think? I know Bindroid keeps theres at about stock and is extremely stable.
i have a similar problem. can I set the cpu back to stock level on ARHD using OCDaemon?
Hello All,
I'm having an issue w/ my Xoom rebooting when the screen times out.
I did some searching and made sure my wifi disconnect was set to never.
Still the same thing.
I flashed the Moray Rom last night w/ no issues. (im on 3.2.1)
It ran find all day.
Today I flashed the Kernel to Tiamat Xoom 2.2.0 "Odachi" stock gpu version.
Im not sure if that is what is causing the issue or not. I also tried the OC gpu version w/ the same results.
Any ideas??
Are you overclocking? You may have the clockspeed set too high.
No OC at all - just the strait ROM and Kernal.
Ended up just restoring everything back using the nandroid backup I did.
Anycase - Ill try it again tomorrow.
Actually - can I ask you a quick question about "procedure" before flashing a new rom.
I have CWM 3.2.0.0 - and I did a nadroid backup to my sdcard.
I also have titantium backup and backed up all my apps.
I have my xoom set up exactly how I like it (The layout is what Im talking about - widgets where I want them, etc...).
To flash to the new Moray rom It says I have to wipe to factory before doing so.
So If I do that - then flash - how can I restore things so the layout is what it was before? Do I have to restore each thing individually using Titanium? If I restore using CWM it restores everything, including the kernal (Found this out already!)
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks
Ok - Its defiantly an issue w/ this rom and my xoom.
I go back to stock and everything is fine. Screen times out - I hit the powerbutton to wake it up - good to go.
I flashed Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.2.2 - Moray
(d/l from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933 )
I set the screen timeout to 2 mins - wait - then goes to sleep after 2 mins - and reboots.
Any ideas would be causing this.
I dont have enough posts to post on the ROM thread or I would move this there.
Just for the hell of it - I restored to the nandroid backup (stock 3.2.1 w/ root) then flashed the Xoom Zone 2.2.2 ROM. Same thing.
Timeout = reboot.

Well, the XoomZone rom is based on Moray, so if it is the Moray rom that's causing the reboot issue, then XoomZone wouldn't fix it. What about just the Odachi kernel with the stock rom? It might be worth a try?
What I do to minimize my setup troubles after a wipe is #1 make sure that I have a very up-to-date Titanium Backup, and #2 since I use ADW Launcher EX, I go into ADW settings and backup there.
Then after I wipe/flash the new rom, I download TB, then choose (under settings/batch) "restore missing apps and data" and that takes a while. Then I open ADW launcher EX and make it My default, then go into ADW settings and click on Restore. This should restore your desktop/pages/setup with the exception of widgets, which you will probably have to manually setup again. The trick is to be prepared and do a fresh TB backup and backup your desktop just before the wipe/install. Also, a fresh nandroid is always advisable, just in case.
Thanks for advise on the restore - exactly what I was looking for. I use ADW as well - never realized there was a backup option there
Ill do a restore of my last nandroid backup then try just the kernal and see what happens.
What allows the OC - is that part of the kernal or the Rom? Or can you OC just by having root and running something like setCpu?
The kernel is what allows overclocking.
Ok - so I ended up flashing the Odachi kernal (Tiamat-Kernel-Xoom-2.2.0-stockGPU) with the stock rom, same thing.
One other thing I noticed is that it will also reboot if I hit the power button in the back to put it to sleep mode. I hit the power - the screen turns off - then in a minute - it reboots.
Doing some more investigation - the reboot only happens when Im NOT connected via USB. If I have the USB connected - it will go into sleep mode - but will NOT reboot.
Any other suggestions? Should I move this to the Tiamat Rom thread?
I am also having this issue! Does anyone have a solution?
I put in an sd card, and now no reboots. Weird...

Eh - that does seem strange. I was gonna see if you guys had tried raising minimum
clock up to 200 or 400mhz....? It just might work, and if so just shows your system may be over sensitive to certain tweaks in the kernel. worth a shot

Hello. I've had my skyrocket for few days and I've noticed it randomly reboot for what it seemed to be no real reason.
After trying for a while to figure out what might be wrong, I noticed the reboots seem to stop when I deactivate the "power saving mode". I'm still waiting to see if it reboots again though.
is this a known issue? a bug? I did search but couldn't find anything related.
maybe a custom rom would fix this? or maybe the phone defective?
Thanks for any info. the phone is running 2.3.5
you're completely stock? that's almost forsure a background app causing you problems, do u have any system/utility Alps installed at all?

yes, completely stock. haven't installed any system or utility apps. as far as I can remember it did the first reboot just a few minutes after I enabled the power saving mode in settings.
Is there a way to read some sort of log or something and try to find more info?
backup data with titanium backup. Flash cwm and do a nandroid backup. Flash darkside and then Odin stock back on phone. Restore Alps one by one over a few hours and check stability
That happened to me as well. Phone defective I would exchange it if I was you.

Hey folks,
Thanks for all your help and info on here (my first post). My SR has been freezing / rebooting unpredictably for over a week now despite all my efforts. Here's what I've done, then what I've tried to do to fix it! If you have any ideas on what's wrong I would love your help:
From rogers stock originally:
- rooted
- cwm
- flashed many different roms: cm7.2, cyanotouchwiz, alien, skyICS, and likely some others
- flashed a few 727 compatible radios: kj2, and now ucla2
and obv installed many different launchers, lba privacy, setCPU, use llama profiles regularly...
What i've done to fix it?
- Now running as stock as I can make it, formatted everything (internal usb included), used odin to restore recovery and phone back to factory. I haven't even downloaded the apps I prefer, just to make sure it isn't some rogue app causing all the hassle.
STILL, without obvious pattern, randomly freezes and reboots, or doesn't wake when sleeping (and I have to force a reboot). This happens at least a few times every day. At peak it was at least every hour, but since the cleanup, it has calmed down to only a few times a day...
It's driving me crazy!
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
flash cwm, flash darkside, then flssh darkside again. Odin back stock. That should fix it
Seems good so far! Thanks for the advice, let's see if she keeps workin!
