I know the Samsung- Fascinate, Mesmerize and showcase are all very similar that is why I am also posting here. My phone build and specs are updated in my signature. I know where to go for rooting it and I know the deal with flashing.
I also know that EC01 was a radio update but mine is EC04? Maybe it's a local thing from my carrier?
I do have a couple questions about carrier settings and such.
I am on a CDMA EvDo.rev.A network and I know my carrier partners with Verizon down south.
What problems might I run into when flashing other ROM's:
Will flashing a ROM mess with anything my carrier needs to keep me connected to the network? If so what?
Will i be able to flash a ROM from either of the three forums for the three phones listed above?
Thank you!
I have to use the backup and restore APN app to keep data with GCI

Hello, everybody here,I have flashed the US cellur Samsung mesmerize to the CDMA carrier in China and I can not enable 3G data network connection.there is no 3G flag on the top of the screen.
Could you please tell me how I can do to enable 3G data network connection ? thanks in advance
BTW:I just find the method to do that on Samsung Fascinate by the secret code of *#4636*1111#,but this doesn't work on Samsung mesmerize .
I probably sound really dumb but you could try using SwitchPro or Extended Controls or something and hit the data connection widget and see what happens.

Thanks for your suggestion,I had tried SwitchPro before, but it doesn't work either
what bands is your carrier using in China?
Hello,
I want to make sure I understand what you are saying. You bought a USCC Mesmerize (i assume on line from someone) and you flashed your carrier's image to the USCC Mez?
If so, you will need your carriers PRI flashed onto the phone. The PRI contains the network information needed to create the DMU Key for data authentication. CDMA is different from GSM in that I could not take my CDMA phone with the USCC PRI and try to add the phone to say Verizon's network. The tools needed for this are very hard to find and the PRI is even harder to find. Your only hope (that I am aware of) is to see if your CDMA carrier would be willing to do this for you.
Good Luck
I think china uses its own brand of CDMA....
It might be PCDMA or something

You probably can't use your phone in China because it has Google on it
Alright, so I'll start by saying I have already looked at the following 3 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930008
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928661
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974275
So why am I bringing this up? Plain and simple, almost all the carriers in Canada have officially launched the Nexus S around mid-April of this year (both AWS and CDMA versions). All of these related threads have had no activity since before then. As a subscriber of Wind Mobile, I'll speak specifically for this carrier, however the information I hope to collect in this thread might be relevant to all our Canadian carriers.
Being factory unlocked, a lot of people have already brought the Nexus S into Canada prior to our carriers launching this device (myself included). Along with that, we've experienced a number of small issues regarding connectivity. The problem? More than likely, it's the radio. Issues with network selection, 3G data (APN's), and text messaging (SMSC settings). While there have already been workarounds and fixes noted for these problems (see threads linked above), they don't always work for everyone, and now that Wind has this device in their official lineup, maybe now we can find some relevant answers.
The question that comes to mind first and foremost, is what is the factory default radio that ships with the Wind Mobile version of the Nexus S? Wind had to have worked with Samsung and/or Google to bring this device to the carrier, so it's obvious that the technical departments worked on optimizing a radio to work best on the network. If we could find out exactly which baseband this is, that could help a lot of people. If required, we may also need a radio dump if one doesn't already exist for whichever version it is. Ontop of that, we should learn how the SMSC is set up from stock (however the radio alone might fix that as well).
Now to keep this thread open to all Canadians, let's gather the same information from all other Canadian carriers as well. Once we make some progress, I can update this OP with all the information gathered.
Your mission? Help us build a database of Canadian radios. If you have purchased your Nexus S from corporate stores since officially launching in Canada (not dealers/re-sellers - they could have imported them) and haven't modified your ROM and/or radio, your information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Does anyone have the CSC or radio for Wind?
Not one person?
Alright, I've flashed the phone w/ the UVMC6 radio and still nothing. I'm using an AT&T branded Skyrocket. I was told that rooting wasn't necessary but have read and it appears that it's "RATLOCKED" and I'm probably going to have to root it to allow it to use any other network provider's network. Can someone please let me know if this is the case? I have to go to bed, but I guess I'll play around with it some more tomorrow. Thanks.
Re: Will the Skyrocket on T-Mobile be able to use their LTE network?
Using the i757 modem with LTE APN settings has worked for others here with the skyrocket. You'll have to manually enter the tmo apn settings I believe though.
See this thread if you haven't already... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507825
Also, you might not want to spam the forum with multiple posts about the same general topic. If all of your thoughts are contained in one thread, it's much easier for others to figure out what's going on, and it will be looked upon as much more polite in the eyes of other readers.

Use UCMC1 radio
Create new apn "fast.t-mobile.com"
i757m radio is nothing different than UCMC1...Identical bands that is..
I'm having two issues and I'm thinking / hoping they both can be addressed at the same time.
1. My S3 locks up alot. It happens when the screen times out on most apps and it tries to go to sleep. Any button will awaken it but no buttons actually function, including power. Pulling the battery is required to reset it. It doesn't happen on the home screen.
2. The phone is rooted (not by me) and I'm using it in Costa Rica on a GSM network. I have phone and text but no data (except wifi). I have APN Manager Pro and have added Kolbi, but when I got to set the APN, there's no options. If I manually add it, it may or may not appear in the list, though it will appear in the APN Pro listings.
Even when it does appear, there's no real data coming thru - a couple of bits slipped thru on various combo of settings, but nothing streaming.
I'm a newb at this, but reading and learning.
I just want something dependable and efficient. What I use - phone, text, email, GPS, and some data. No games or such, just the basics.
I'm not sure what to fix first. I'm thinking a different ROM could fix both issues. Which ROM? I'm confused by the ROM options. I should be able to get 2G/3G without the ATT ROM.
Something else I should be doing?
Info:
Kernel 3.0.68-KT747
4.1.2
JB - build 13
hardware I535.10
Thanks!!
Kurt
Any help / push in the right direction would be appreciated.

Kurt this is the Verizon threads. The verizon phones are cdma not GSM. So either your posting in the wrong threads or you have the wrong device.

All LTE is actually GSM, so any Verizon phone with LTE has GSM. Hence the LTE SIM card in your phone.
See [GUIDE] Set up Verizon Galaxy S3 as World GSM Phone (confirmed working) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809314
I can post the GSM question on that forum if needed, but there's still the lock-up issue.
Thanks!

I would definitely post in that forum, I personally have no experience getting gsm to work, but you'd probably get better support asking in that thread or simply following that guide again.
As far as your screen locking issues, are you running any kind of a custom rom or kernel? Phones lock up sometimes when the voltages are lowered or cpu is over clocked. Sometimes when I have random occurrences like that, a simple reflash of a rom will fix strange bugs like that.
If you're still having problems, then I'd odin back to stock, and if that still doesn't work it's probably a hardware issue.

GT I9305 data speed in U.S.A. T-Mobile is 0.12 Mbps (It crawls).
In Northern Europe recently, using a data only Sim on T-Mobile, it worked at 3.00 Mbps, not really fast, but usable.
Wi Fi speed at home is 15 Mbps.
Everything else runs great.
No amount of tinkering with settings and APNs changes anything.
Changed firmware using Odin from 4.1.2 to 4.3 twice, I9305XXUEMKC and now I9305XXUEML5.
Root or no Root makes no difference.
These firmwares I beleive do not change the modem which does not seem to adjust to U.S. standard.
Can this phone run at 3g or 4g in U.S?
Is there a modem that can load in Odin, which I know how to use, that will give desired result?
If so, what and where is it?
If not Odin loadable, kindly use plain step by step English.
If no U.S. modem exists, will trying other European modems make any difference and/or brick the phone?
Thanks for any help or direction.
The first thing I would highly suggest is, DO NOT TO FLASH A MODEM THAT IS NOT FOR YOUR DEVICE. That is a very good way to end up with an expensive paperweight. Have you tried updating PRL / Profile ? Have you contacted your carrier to have them reset your Data on their end ? There is a thread HERE with Modems for your device. You may also want to ask about data speeds HERE.

Thank you for your help.
T-Mobile, the carrier, did tell me once they would make some kind of adjustment at their end, but no difference.
What exactly is a profile and how is it tuned for this situation?
Will look at the other two threads.
I'm not sure about the GT I9305, but it should be the same. Look in Menu - Settings - More - System Update. You should see Update PRL / Update Profile. I would also say to check out THIS post. Plus the thread HERE has some good general information.
But as I stated before, I would call the carrier first. Have them reset your Data on their end.

Will begin by contacting T-Mobile and asking for Data reset.
Update PRL/PROFILE not found.
You opened a number of other doors. It will take awhile to thoroughly check them one by one.
Will post final outcome here.
Thanks again.
Just a bit more info. A fellow member of the Assist Team has pointed something out to me regarding your issue. It was mentioned, that it is very important on T-Mobile to make sure that your APN is set to " FAST " . Otherwise your data will be slow, or none at all. A quick search came up with THIS THREAD. Also be sure to write down your current APN settings where you can recall them. Or better yet take a couple of screenshots of your current APN's , and save them to the PC / Laptop. Or anywhere other than the device, as a CYA measure. Remember always read, read, read, and re-read all information before proceeding.

Did the following today:
Contacted T- Mobile and requested a Reset from their end AND inquire if a U.S. specific Modem file exists for the I9305.
Downloaded from two of the sites you referred me to, some 20 Modem files.
Using Odin, installed five of them.
They all worked about the same with no real difference or improvement.
Restored the Modem file that came the OS firmware.
Checked the APN site you mentioned and tried all sorts of various combinations including adding a dash to tmobile and using FAST.
Nothing made a difference.
Am now back on APN default setting, the phone will remain on for three days that T-Mobile said it needs to do its configuring.
It seems to me that the modems for this phone are all based on non U.S. standards and even if a U.S. modem exists or can be built and used, it might not make a difference if the issue is hardware based, which is something that cannot be readily changed, if at all.
What is hard to fathom is that the phone indeed, does work in 2G, but so unbelievably slowly, have to suppose, some other factor, that we have not addressed, is causing a bottleneck. Why would Samsung make a phone and T-Mobile
offer a network that they knew would only operate at a 2G speed of 0.12 mbps? That makes no sense.
Will await the Reset outcome, also anticipate an upcoming Android firmware update to 4.4 and will keep looking for an answer.
If all else fails, will then consider another carrier or another phone, but not giving up yet.
Your continued interest is really appreciated!
Robbbbert I would at this point suggest asking on THIS thread. As we do not want to bypass the Purpose of the XDA Assist Forum. One last thing to check is that your Network Mode. Menu - Settings - More networks - Mobile networks - Network mode. Make sure it's set to LTE.
