I may have multiple ?s here lol
I have notice that some files that i have D|L were in PD98zip why is that? and when you have multiple files you need to add that happen to be PD98zip what are you going to do. I try to rename one of the files did not read? I.E splash screen (when you first turn on your phone) I got some from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059520 (good stuf) it D|L as a PD98. Well I had to flash a new readio that was also a PD98. So what are some best ways to make it easier to over come this. What I did was remove the splash PD98 file off the root of my sd card then added the radio pd98 and it works fine.
Just wondering why is it always PD98zip.?
How would you post a video on here/in a post reply?
The bootloader searches for the PD98IMG.zip only. That's why its named that? Or are you asking a different question?
well what it is is that I came a cross some files that use the same name PD98 and at first i was not sure what to do with other file that also shares the same file name thinking that you have to keep it in their cause the phone would mess up like I thought when I did a splash screen I thought I had to keep the splash pd98 file so it can work cause I was trying to flash a new radio which also had the same file name and it would not work right so i deleted/removed the splash screen file pd98 to add the radio pd98 file and it worked but before that I try to rename the pd98 for the radio to pd988.zip and it didnt work..
No, once you're done installing, you can delete, rename, or move the file. It is just an installer. "PD98IMG.ZIP" (and a few others) are hard-coded into the hboot bootloader and will always be searched for when booted via hboot. This is the factory way of distributing firmware updates.
ah good call I was wondering about that. lol
but does anyone know how to U|L a Video to the post reply?

My advice would be to post this question in forum general as it has nothing to do with Inspire4G Q&A.

Your the boss. Just seems to me like it should be a question related to how to use the forums (attachments and such) and not really appropriate for a specific device forum.
Since it's now considered a valid topic, try uploading it to youtube and then posting the "embed" link that youtube gives you for your video.

I think Gene meant *xda forum* general, not inspire 4G general, meaning not any particular devices general forum.
As he said, you're the boss, but it seems like that would've been the more logical place for a xda-developers.com-related question.

and sure it could have been but I really did not want to make another thread or w.e and yeah yeah I know about and use saying and so forth it was just an idea about it thats all thought since I was think it I could just post it and get a quick answer to it. Didnt know it would take to heart to anyone sorry..
But also, how come does it Hboot read only pd98 files, is it something in the files that makes it readable.
again sorry if that ? really offend anyone.

Bro, you didn't offend anyone, and I certainly wouldn't hold it against you for not wanting to start yet another new thread.
Gene just made an observation that was initially misread by zelendel, that I tried to help clarify, that zelendel then realized.
And everyone lived happily ever after.
As to your question, I thought Gene's reply answered it rather well, but if you're asking something slightly different this last time...
It doesn't just recognize PD98IMG.zip, it recognizes a couple others, PDDIAG.zip, or something, is one, and there's one or two more, visible next time you boot into hboot. Watch it, it looks for a couple different ones.
There's a special file inside that tells it what to do. Android-info.txt, or something like that. There may be more to it, that's just one characteristic that I'm aware of.
I got you.. just wondering about why PD98zip?s Im always seeing that around lol.

Yup, you wanna get it on with this phone... PD98IMG.zip is how it's done. For the most part, that is.
also for the most part you can delete the pd98 once you install w.e it is you putting on the sd card right?
I for got this How would I get tethering on my phone? cause @ work we have a bunch of tablets and our whole store has wifi but there is so many different things running off our server..

Yes. Or you can rename it, saving it in case you need it later on.
If you leave a PD98IMG.zip on the root of your SD card, it will flash it again every time you go into hboot/bootloader.
you know for some reason I try to re name a PD98 to PD988 and still did not work out.

Sorry for this admins if this is in the wrong spot, but i have no forum rights other than here.
I have extensively researched your forum, plus Cyanmod and have done everything i can think of to get my GPS to work on my HTC INSPIRE, but to no avail. Dammm thing still says SEARCHING for GPS.
Not sure if i have to leave it for a while i did it for like 10 minutes yesterday and nothing...... I have read that 7.0.2 fixes this but i guess its not true since i still have the problem.
Can someone please help me with this?
Maybe to avoid duplication of a thread on this same topic, you can just PM me here
I am well familiar with forums etiquette (being a moderator myself) and i know how annoying it is to have duplicate threads created for no reason.
Again my apologies if this is the case
Thanks.

Reflashing the radio might get GPS back.

If you are on a stock rom, use the att one
If you are on a gingerbread rom, use on that says gb
On the bootloader screen it says this:

HBOOT-0.85.0019
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.06.04.06_M
eMMC-boot
Have no clue what the hell that means....

Since you have CM7 which I believe is a gingerbread ROM, its usually suggested to flash a gingerbread radio. From what you mentioned, you have a stock at&t radio with a gingerbread ROM.
ok, when i rooted my phone, i used this (i can't post the link, but you if google exactly what i am about to put below, its the first choice):

Then, for the radio flashing, i found this which i want to ask if it will work....looks simplified.

Again, its the first choice when you google that.
Let me know guys if i am heading in the right direction. I am not sure what Radio i actually have....don't want to screw it up since messing with the radio can brick i think.
Thanks

If you go into settings>about phone>software information.. and look under Baseband version, thats what shows you what radio you have.
You mentioned you have RADIO-26.06.04.06_M which is a stock at&t radio.
Download the gingerbread radio and flash it using those instructions.
It should bring back GPS.
Ok, i have the file in both .zip and in .img format....
I am having issues flashing this to my phone....
I tried doing it via bootloader and doing
adb fastboot flash radio.img
it says something * not recognized *
its like it won't read it or something....
I tried doing recovery and using the "ZIP" file thinking i can just trick it but it said updating failed
Any easier way of getting this in my phone?
Isn't there a way of just going to the FILE i have and replacing with this one?
Just a thought.

how long should it take for the GPS to catch at first?

You do realize it's the same thing I posted right?
All he did was put the .img in a zip file.
The instructions to flash it is to... well, if you're using his .zip which I don't recommend because a MD5 hash is missing. You can try downloading his file and verify it corresponding to that thread. You need to make sure the MD5 hash matches otherwise something could go wrong because you have a bad download.
1. Go to the page I linked, download a NS4G recovery with a color that you'd like on it.
2. Once its downloaded, put the img in your /sdk/tools/ folder.
3. Put your phone into bootloader mode.
4. Open command prompt
5. cd C:\wherever your sdk folder is
6. fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-color.img (replace color with the color you got)
E.G. if you downloaded the cyan one, it would be, fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-cyan.img
green? --- fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-green.img
and so forth.
7. reboot recovery
done.

Yeah but its not the original link. It's also put in a .zip file. Just wanted to explain to him that both of them are the same. So regardless it should work. Just OP should check its MD5hash before actually fastboot flashing it.
Ok let me clear things up. Hellcat was wanting it on his phone so he contacted me asking me how to install so i advidsed him to use the one click method by shabby penquin just replace the recovery in his file with this one and rename it to recovery

Duh. What did you expect to be changed within Clockwork? That's why the latest is 3.0.2.4 for the NS. Recoveries don't get updated all of the time.
Most of the changes aren't even for the NS tbh.

No? I'm just saying that when you update your recovery you shouldn't be expecting much changes to be coming from it. Clockwork Recovery only gets updated to 4.0.0.0+ to support new devices. That's why the official Clockwork Recovery that is supported by ROM Manager & Koush's current version for the Nexus S is at 3.0.2.4 and not 4.0.0.2.
And I never said it doesn't exist. Yeah I didn't mention "official support" but you should know what I meant. Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm speaking about.

Okay now I have no idea what you're talking about because you're talking irrelevance now. But anyway, the OP has what he looked for in this thread. Congrats. I only responded to give him his answer on that he was surprised that there wasn't much changes within the recovery.
Nothing is really ever changed in a recovery as it is 100% functional. The Clockwork Recovery version only really increases because of additional support of Clockwork recovery for other Android phones, tablets.

There was no reason for you to root without first reading everything. Also there was no reason to root if your not good with phones or computers....just sayin. Please search.
I got your 10 char right here
Wow man best advice is the one given above. I searched for weeks for all issues before I tempted to root. Then days for the issues on custom ROMs. As well as radios. I dont bother with anything else but those. I would say get the rooted ATT ROM (PD98IMG) file, pull battery out of phone then put back, then boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power button at same time. If phone goes to bootloader it will recognize the PD98IMG zip and load it. it will ask if you want to install, just hit volume up for yes and it will do its thing. I couldn't find the page for the ROM so I loaded mine to megaupload it includes the radio -26.10.04.03_M. If you find it in Development Section dont forget to THANK the developer, I TAKE NO CREDIT FO IT. Just place zip file in root of phone micro sd card (not in a folder). (I always use the gold card I made to root the phone). You may have to take card out of phone and use adapter to place zip in itthen put back into phone. AS ALWAYS ON HERE FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
AGAIN AS ADVICED ABOVE " RESEARCH" before anything.

I'm not taking a shot at your english but from the sounds of it you rooted, you had a custom ROM installed? and then you put in your sim and re-ran the hack kit? I'm not 100% sure what you actually did but if the hack kit ran and you were rooted and using the rcmix rom, running the hack kit again is explicitly stated not a good idea and will jam you up. If you did this, consult the IRC chat room in the OP of the Hack Kit Thread, I'm sure attn1 and those guys have seen this situation before.

Can you get to hboot by powering up holding volume down and power button at the same time. Ifso see if it is s-off? If so you might be able to enter rocovery this way and flash a rom.
Usually when I have an issue with a rom or phone I flash the stock rooted att rom (pd98 zip) and start over with changing the rom. Sorry I can't give you the zip file I'm on the road all day today but if you search q&a section you will find it.

Hope it helps.

what it sounds like this user did was ran the hack kit and rooted fine (assumption), the mention of the RCmix ROM makes me believe he installed the ROM and then realized the SIM card wasn't in, so for some reason he/she ran the hack kit again? which if you read the OP of the hack kit, Attn1 explicitly states don't do that or you will get jammed up. I'm assuming Attn1 can fix this quickly since I imagine this issue has happened on more then one occasions and he'll be a better resource to fix this rather then us trying to troubleshoot this from the trial and error side. But if this user cannot get into the IRC chatroom, there isn't much more any of us can do.
So true some people just want to jump into situations without researching. We try to help I dont like to see someone turning their phone into a $400 paper weight lol

agreed. if people dont research HOW to root the phone, likely they dont know WHY to root the phone.
So if I can enter HBOOT. but when I try to enter recoveryel phone does the same. htc logo appears and disappears until it almost off the screen ..
and yes is it s-off.
There's a thread at the top of the Inspire General forum that explains exactly how to fix this. It's been there for a month. Do your research and you'll find the answers you need.
If the rooting process worked correctly.
Here is the rooted updated ATT Gingerbread ROM. Just place PD98 in root of SD card then go into bootloader and let it do its thing. When it ask to install volume up for yes. AS ADVICED " RESEARCH"
Place it in the root of your SD card (you will have to remove SD card and use adapter to move zip file to root of SD card if PC does not recognize phone with USB cable) and power phone off then power back up holding down power button and volume down button at same time. Phone should go to bootloader then it will recognize the PD98 zip file and ask if you want to istall. Volume up for yes and it will do its thing. No need to try to get into recover phone will do it itself with the PD98 zip file. Zip is (ATT ROM 2.47.502.7 w/Radio - 26.10.04.03_M)
This is for Rooted Stck ROM
http://www.fileserve.com/file/RtVn4Re/PD98IMG.zip
NO NEED TO RENAME JUST DOWNLOAD AND PLACE IN ROOT OF SD
Hope it helps
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT ANYTHING ON YOUR PHONE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING.

Then you can flash a custom ROM if you like.
Been there
same thing happened to me, tried flashing cm7, it got stuck in an infinite loop so I did the same thing and had to get a new phone.
Just make up an alibi don't tell them u rooted and make sure there is no damage to ur phone. They just gave me a refurb phone and now I am using RCmix3d.
my parents took my phone away, spending too much time on it lol

Alright guys I get that you're trying to get that 10 post count up, but the intention of that rule was to get you research and add something of value...telling the guy a month later to use google to search is about as useful as a poopie flavored lollipop.

I don't believe he needs a post count. Been here longer than you and should be grandfathered in.

either way, never really understood why some users post information to a dead thread that has been covered? Then again, I contribute to the problem by bringing it up. Then again you also contribute to the problem by calling me out. I'll yield to seniority though. Google is a great tool.

Because, if peeps are searching like they should, the thread is not really dead. It should still be getting views and if anyone has anything to add, they should do so. Provided the thread is not real old that info is obsolete and what they add is constructive.

This is probably my first or second post here on XDA but ivr been a member for the last 6 months.. big thanks goes out to all the devs and everyone associated with XDA that helped me learn about this awesome hobby. Anywho i have a problem thats probably easily solved but i cannot figure out what to do. So bear with me this may be a noob question, My device is acting strange, i recently flashed the coredroid ROM and when i reboot i get my splash screen and then a blank screen... i wiped the dalvik cache and wiped everything else prior to flashing so im not sure it could be that, and i cant go into hboot to get back to recovery that way cause i have a radio.zip on the SD card and whenever i go into hboot it just asks me if i want to update by pressing up or dont update by pressing down, then after i choose ither one it wants to reboot...all i need to do is get back into recovery but at this point i dont know how. Can somebody please help me? Ive never had this problem before so im stumped!!! Thanks in advanced for all whom give me insight and point me in the right direction
Get a card reader take the PGIMG off of your SD. Redownload your ROM put it on your SD reflash.

Please please please please please please please pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee search for your answers. If you're gonna call it a noob question, chances are the answer is out there.
There are couple things you can do. One would be to get an SDcard reader and just delete the PD98IMG.zip off your sdcard. You can also just take out the sdcard and boot into HBOOT.(I think this should work, I remember seeing this as another option to getting a card reader) Once it does its thing you can then put the SDcard back in and boot to recover
Moving forward, always delete PD98IMG.zips off your sdcard immediately after you use them or just create a folder on your sdcard for radios or other PD98IMG.zips you want to always have on you. Remember to always clear wipe data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing. First boots may also take some time especially after full wipes.
thats one thing i was thinking about doing, but as of now im broke till friday and i dont have a card reader :/ do you think there may be any other way of going about fixing this???? or is that pretty much my only option? Thanks for the input!
edit: i posted this right as you did baconstrips, lol thanks forthe help

hahaha, listen man we've all been there..something unexpected and freaky happens to your phone and logical thinking goes out the door! Glad you got it all worked out though!! Happy flashing sir!
Just out of curiosity, what ROM did you have before you flashed that one? And what steps did you take when flashing the ROM?

OP stated he full wiped. My honest guess regardless of the previous ROM since he claims a full wipe was probably a bad flash or a bad download. It happens from time to time.

If you don't run a MD5 (or SHA1 as appropriate) sum, you're borrowing against trouble.
I always calculate the sum when I download, and then again after copying it to my SDcard.

meh, I haven't checked a md5 number for ROM download in quite some time and haven't had any issues...when it comes to radios, well that's a different story. It's good practice to do it for all downloads but with ROMs for me I don't usually check it. I think I've had one problem in the last 4 months due to a bad download.

I create the torrents for Fuduntu Linux... I made summing a habit after creating a torrent with a bad ISO. Sum twice, upload once.
