When and if the galaxy s2 comes out, are you staying with the infuse or buying the GS2?
Just curious if anyone likes their infuse that much.
Bigger display and better sound chip = staying with the Infuse
im staying with it for now. until a phone that i see is actually worth it. i got my eyes on 2 ATM Optimis 3D and the Nexus 4G
Infuse for sure. There's no way I could go back to a smaller screen, and I haven't had ANY performance issues that would make me yearn for the battery draining dual core.

Any link to read on the difference of the sound chip? Or could you explain? Thanks.
Considering I'd have to pay full price for the GS2 - staying with the Infuse.
I have yet to see anything that really needs that second core, and the display of the Infuse is GORGEOUS.
Running the Infused ROM, on this screen, is rapture. I don't think I'll switch phones until the Infuse 2. I came from an iPhone 4, with a Nexus One before that, and neither can compare. All the GS2 would do for me is downsize my screen with no immediate performance benefit (because of Infused ROM, with VooDoo lag fix).

Since I am one of those who only upgrade when I can get it at a discount, I'll be using the infuse for then next like 14 months or so until AT&T says I'm due for an upgrade. I like new phones, but not enough to pay full retail for them.
I had every intention of taking this back as soon they made an anouncement about the gs2 coming out. Then I played around with it for a day or so and even though the battery bothers me, I can't give this phone up. Its easily the best I've ever had.

I am keeping
Gingerbread around the corner and this thing is going to fly.
I am keeping.
I'm keeping it love this phone n the screen size yea I can't pick up a smaller phone lol

Keeper here too. Love this phone.
SGSIII should be out by the time the contract is up
Def.a keeper..as said many times biger screen better audio chip.. Now if att.gs2 has 4.5 and wolfson chip? This will be on craigs list the day i can buy it
I'm just curious as to how much samsung hurt their own sg2 sales by putting this one out lol...at least att sales anyway. I know it'll be on more than one carrier.

look up supercurio on twitter.
the sgs2 has a yamaha audio chip, it's not bad but somehow in the implementation they have a noise issue, clicking and popping with volume and eq changes and such.
many sgs's and trhe infuse have a wolfson chip, not only is wolfson a great chip the manufacturer was very cooperative with supercuio in providing the sources and drivers.
I got the Infuse with a new contract on 6/2 so unless a better phone comes out in the next week or so when I'm still able to return it, I'm sticking with it. I love this phone and don't really see a point in switching.

Took them long enough to get a Galaxy S phone at $500.
I'm guessing you probably could it get sooner if you go through AT&T. Actually, I hoping you could because waiting for the GS2 is painful & I need a phone since I returned my Inspire 4G.
I hope it is true. I have been trying to find a release date for quite some time.
I hope it's true also. I'm getting my captivate back from being repaired tomorrow so I will be returning my atrix tomorrow also.
I've tried to like both the inspire and the atrix but for some reason just can't. In my opinion although they may be faster they just don't match up to my captivate. I find myself using my wifes captivate more than my atrix even though she has a pink case on it.

How do you like the Captivate? I have always been an 'HTC Man' and the Infuse will be my first Samsung. Can you compare the Samsung UI to HTC Sense? Anything else that I should be aware of? Thanks.

I think those that are use to sense on the htc phones will need some time to adjust to samsungs ui. I'm mainly basing my judgement on the screen itself which on the captivate is only bettered by the iphone 4 in my experience.
The infuse has an updated version of the screen. They are calling it super amoled plus, it's supposed to look better than the iphone from what I've read.
I tried getting use to sense on the htc inspire 4g but after using my captivate and launcher pro and adw launchers I just couldn't get use to it. Being that your an htc guy you may want to look at the incredible s which is also at the site I listed, from what I've read it will work on att. Not 100% on that but it's worth looking in to.

I've also read today that the sgs2 will be coming in late may and from what ive read the price is going to be pretty hefty. They were talking in the $700.00 range off contract. I don't remember the exact site I saw that on but it seems it won't be cheap.

The Captivate is a pretty good phone; fast, has alright battery life, and a great screen, but INO it needs to be rooted and nodded to make it good.
You should definitely get a custom rom on the phone; without putting one on, you're going tovhave to deal without the lag that comes froohone'phone's file system.
The GPS isnt that great either.
All in all, it was a great phone when it came out but it isn't really worth buying now; there are.better phones out there.

Well I have to disagree with FLAC Vest. I happen to think the Captivate is a GREAT phone overall. Yes, you definitely need to put a custom ROM, but doing so makes the performance extremely good and the GPS is just fine if outside or on your dashboard.
The Super AMOLED screen is great, contrast is amazing. I prefer it to the iPhone retina display. Super AMOLED Plus should be even better. I'm really looking forward to the 4.5" screen of the infuse but may wait for a aftermarket battery.
My only gripe with the Captivate is BATTERY, BATTERY, BATTERY. I bought a 3200mah Mugen and it makes a world of difference, I can finally go a whole day without charging instead of 3pm recharges. Only problem is cases don't fit.
I looked at the Atrix because of the bigger battery but it appears that Motorola are almost impossible to put a custom ROM on and the Motoblur interface is consistently bashed on the internet. Just flipping through home screens was DRAMATICALLY slower than my Captivate using ADW Launcher.
@Phytrax
You make some good points, thanks for making that comment. I think we will both agree that the battery life with stock batteries sucks though.
After having the phone for about a month, I bought 2 spare batteries and a ccharger off of eBay; that definitely remedied the problems.

ive had my craptivate since june. My wife has the inspire 4g. As of right now, the inspire is WAY better than the captivate. I have a custom rom, oc/uv etc... and her stock phone is just as fast, gets better battery with a bigger screen and smaller battery? The screen is good. The gps works on hers etc. The captivate is pretty good after you root, rom, tweak the hell out of it, the htc is good out of the box. Thats the difference. At this point, im getting the infuse when it comes out, with the hope that it is good out of the box. If it sucks, im just going return it and get the htc. Samsung gets one more chance from me. The sgs2 is great, but its going to be too pricey, and it probably wont be THAT great, ala MOTOROLA ATRIX. LOL

My wife and I really liked the Inspire 4g but the 1250mah battery scares the hell out of me. Even the talk time numbers show it not lasting as long as the Captivate. I suspect your wife doesn't use her phone as much as you but I'd love to see some real numbers. Maybe you can fully charge both of them and then see how long you can play a certain movie?? With my Mugen battery I can watch a 2 hr movie and have 70% battery left.
I was very impressed with the performance of the Inspire in the store though, much smoother than the Atrix, and the screen was better than I expected.
I personally get better battery life out of my Inspire, but my Cappy needs a new battery. The only thing I miss is the screen--but it's worth the extra speed in my opinion.

The more research I do, the less I am believing the Marh 31st date. (No matter how much I wish it was true) Does anybody else have any info?
I'm also interested in this. I was hoping to use my upgrade on an Atrix, but after hearing about all the issues it has, I think I'll hold out for the Infuse. I have friends that have Galaxy S variants and they seem really happy with their phones.
Maybe I'll just get an iPhone and use it until the Infuse comes out, then jailbreak and unlock it, sell it on eBay and buy the Infuse at full price.

When I had my inspire I got pretty good battery life out of it but just couldn't get use to that screen on it.
Just my opinion but the screen was horrible compared to the captivate screen.
Now I have an atrix sitting in its box waiting and hoping that the infuse does come out on the 31st. If not I might just return the atrix and buy a tablet instead.
I had high hopes for both the inspire and atrix but neither matched up to my captivate. Guess with warm weather coming its time to stop playing with the phones and get the boat ready for bass fishing.
I keep checking the cells4you.com site and they still have the infuse listed as coming on the 31st.
I am hoping to hear something at ctia but its not looking very good on the phone front. Tablets are stealing the show.

Hey, I know that there at already lots of threads that have been created with various people asking whether the infuse is worth getting. But in my situation my decision is a one-time deal then I'm locked in for 18 months again (until im eligible for another upgrade).
So I want to ask whether I should get the Infuse when my upgrade comes in June or should I wait for when the GS2 hopefully hits AT&T in Q3? The GS2 is obviously better than any phone out there currently however I am currently stuck with a Nokia F160 (FML) so I'm anxious to get my hands on a new phone.
What do you guys think I should do?
The question is can u wait? Honestly this phone can be better once the roms drop... the captivate was a great phone that became a much better phone once it had custom roms. If u can get infuse now and some how save say 700 in 3 mths it would be a wise choice. Remember once roms drop the phone will be much better and if u was able to deal with that Nokia for as long as u did I think u can deal with the Infuse for longer.
Just my 2ยข
sent from Infuse but miss my captivate on cont. 5.5.... One day this can be as good...
You will be thrilled with the quality of the screen. It's really mind blowing how great this thing looks. I am having some weird restart issues, but only when I have my SD card installed, so I'm guessing there is some weirdness that they should be able to fix fairly easily. It runs very, very fast and the battery is great. If nothing else, sell your Infuse in 3-4 months for ~400 here, and pay the extra 150-200 to buy the branded SGS2 from att.

I agree. The Infuse has all that I want in a phone, minus some restarting/freezing hiccups that I am certain will be cured with the many roms that are forthcoming.
I may buy the SGS2 in a few months, but actually, at that point in time, I might get an unlocked Hercules - that phone has the bigger screen of the Infuse with the hardware of the SGS2 if not slightly better. Other phones will be coming out in that time too, like the HTC Holiday which seems pretty bad ass. So my two cents is to get the Infuse now, and re-evaluate/sell in a few months when similar dual core versions are made available.
Hope that helps.

SGS2 dualcore battery drain way faster, I read forums sgs2 is a joke on mobile phone. Having a dual core phone make it IMMOBILE phone, they even say yes it is darn fast especially when browsing that's the only plus they see now compare to the infuse, but I was rofl when they mention fast but useless having to look for an outlet every time is a pain in a behind on a mobile phone, that's why I decided to bought the infuse, one even mention buying a sgs2 is similar to buying a lambo that can run 200mph but can only do 65-90mph on the freeway, and sucks more gas and way more expensive than a civic whicj can also do 90mph with less gas, I saw their point, do you?

I don't get what I am so suppose to be in love with when it comes to the SII vs Infuse 4g.
Now I am strictly comparing the US Specced SII (european I suppose as well since it is the same) vs Infuse 4g.
The infuse has a bigger screen and bigger battery.
The S2 has dual core and a small battery and smaller screen.
So I am going to get dual core eating monster with a smaller battery? Battery life on the Infuse is OK, good, but nothing crazy. The S2 must be awful?
Now if we were getting the 1.5ghz dual core with some form of LTE I could see a little more attraction.
personally though I'll be olding off for something better.
Dual core
1 gig of ram
It's only slightly smaller - actually feels better in your hand.
Gingerbread 2.3.4 from the carrier
Better GPS lock
I'm still wondering if it has the chip needed for voodoo sound though...
It's not a huge difference but you get gingerbread out the box, touchwiz 4.0, dual core, 1080p recording, hdmi(infuse as well), thx soluscado totally slipped my mind, etc. The infuse is ok but i'm probably getting rid of mine. The checkered loading is driving me crazy.
I agree with the OP. The dual core proc seems like a "meh" addition, especially considering the battery trade-off. I just don't use TouchWiz anyway, so that's irrelevant. The bigger screen is a BIG deal to me, and any video I take with my phone is displayed on my phone, so 1080p recording is irrelevant. I'm pretty sure you get HDMI out on the Infuse as well, but I have no use for that either. And the Gingerbread enhancements are so minor (to me) that I really couldn't care less whether it's available OOB or not.

Yea no point. I'll stick with my infuse until samsung releases an lte phone on att like ours or the s2. Or wait for googles next phone and hope that is lte as well.
Dual core is not enough reason to upgrade, I want real 4g speeds.
Infuse running Serendipity VII
If the GPS chip is better than that of the infuse then I'm switching. I use the GPS more than anything else on the phone and that is a deal breaker for me. If the infuse had a perfect working GPS, I'd take it over the s2 anyday.

I know this topic has come up a few times in the month or so I've owned my infuse and watched these forums, and I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering if it's worth the switch to the AT&T-branded SGSII. Honestly the thing I'd have wanted most from the European SGSII was the physical Home button, but that didn't make it over here (needs more patent litigation).
I do agree that the .2" off the screen is actually a bonus; 4.3" screens feel a lot nicer when using to chat--somehow the AT&T SGSII is more than .2" off in both dimensions (4.96" x 2.60" vs. 5.2" x 2.8" according to Samsung). Still, a fifth of an inch either way isn't a deal-breaker for me either way.
The dual core SGSII processor is obviously the big difference, and I have yet to see anyone post a compelling, non-anecdotal reason to have a second core on a phone. I don't know many people who have felt their Infuse was insufficiently responsive, and no game I've run has had any noticeable lag on the Infuse, though my experience is hardly extensive.
Does anyone know how much RAM the AT&T SGSII has? If it had the full gig that the Euro version has, that'd also be a nice bonus, as I have managed to fill up the sub-half-gig that the Infuse has available.
The last feature I think deserves mention is NFC, which the ATT SGSII does have, reportedly. Not that I really expect to be paying by NFC any time soon, but what are we if not nerds who want more features on our phones?

There isn't a single thing that the Infuse beats the SGS II in. It ties in a few places like camera, but that's it. The SGS II is the best Android phone in existence, and the Infuse probably wouldn't have even been the best of 2010.

I don't think i can agree with that. I havent yet used one, but i cam say that having the largest and brightest display on the market is a huge plus for me. Regardless of whether it may seem like a better deal, i feel that the sgs2 is basically a smaller infuse. It looks the same and does all the same things. Really can't count gb as a plus either since we already have it on the infuse and an official version by the time the sgs2 is readily available to most. I can't see any advantage to 1080p either since it will just eat up more of that inferior battery. Just my 2 cents.
Edit: on top of all that, i don't know why u said 2010? you meant 2011? even if that was so i find that hard tp believe also. Considering that feature for feature, the Infuse was the best overall android device you could buy here in the U.S. when it was released. That said, the only real reason the Infuse hasn't out sold the competition is the lack of hype behind it and a very quiet release by Samsung. Quite unlike the sgs2 which is released first in their most local market. It obviously is pointed towards the more general technophile audience. The infuse i feel was directed towards the huge media phone freaks.

I said 2010 on purpose. That's where single core Froyo phones belong.
How long do you guys think the Infuse 4G will last in the Market of ever improving phones? Will it last the next few years, say until an upgrade is eligible? Or will it simply fall apart compared to upcoming phones in the next few years? Personally, I love my Infuse, and I think it'll last at least a year to three in terms of specs and software. Please, discuss.
Ok, this is one thing you need to learn when it comes to new phones / laptops/ technology in general. In a year, IT WILL BE OUTDATED. I got the Samsung Captivate and could not imagine a better phone ---besides it's constant GPS issues and until the charging port broke on it...but that was partly my fault. I got this phone and it is great as well--even better than the Captivate. At the time, I did not think that was possible.
The thing you want to do is buy a quality product for the time. The Infuse is one of those things. If you take good care of it, it will last you. I fell off of my bike a few weeks back going downhill. I was pretty banged up. My Infuse, even though it was in a case, got pretty banged up--- cosmetically around those silver edges. It is fully functioning otherwise. It is a solid product. It will last you a long time if you don't abuse it.
For example -- -I still have the Samsung Blackjack 2 as my backup phone and I use it when my "newer and better" phones give me problems. I've had it for forever. It is still a good phone despite being years old. You have a decent phone now--- we all do, as far as the Infuse is concerned. I haven't heard too many complaints, but only time can tell if that will change. Treat it well and it will remain good to you.
The sg2 looks identical to the infuse(slightly smaller on at&t) , except with a better resolution and much better cpu, so I think the infuse will be obsolete when the sg2 hits the states. Nevertheless, I love my infuse and I think it's one of the best phones out right now.

I'm just asking if you guys think it'll last the above-average Android user the next few years. I know it's already outdated. It was probably outdated before it even came out.

depends on the user. there isnt much the phone can't do but it depends on samsung releasing updates and on the community to put out quality mods. to be honest with a good rom a droid could still be a viable phone. my friend has a nexus1 and loves it. i actually kinda envy it, i love the screen and media capabilities on samsung phones but as a phone the nexus is perfect and there is no reason it should need to be anything more.
i have a phone lust though. i will likely get the sgsiii or whatever comes after the sgsii long before my contract is up.
The Infuse right now is still the absolute best phone on AT&T.
And will stay that way till the SGS 2 comes out....

Sgs2 and infuse have the same resolution. 480x800 wvga.
I was looking at the specs of Galaxy II and the one thing I won't switch my infuse for is battery. It has 1600mA while Infuse has 1750mA. So when it comes to dual CPU, it should drain battery down pretty bad. I mean why will you ever even use that power on the phone unless you compute rocket science data using it. 4G also has a big mouth for drinking the juice out of your phone.
I'm not trying to say it is horible, it just would be a major concern if I'm a heavy data user.

phones are always out of date typically within 6 months of being released there will be a higher end phone, with few exceptions. (i use to sell phones personally)
anyways, i had a samsung captivate which was the best phone when it came out, currently out of date, but it broke i payed money throuh insurance and luckily they were out so i got an infuse. very happy so far, and i can save my upgrade, im going to wait till i get a high spec (probably htc) lte phone

6 weeks, at best.
Coming from the Captivate it's already boring.

The phone is already outdated when you bought it, but that is the rule with all tech lol. Will it last 5 years. If you take care of it sure but will it still be getting upgrades. Most likely not sense we are seeing higher and higher system requirements to run the newer updates.
It is confirmed the nexus S will get the ics update, hardware wise there's no reason the infused couldn't handle the update also. It's up to att and Sammy.

I am not saying it couldnt handle it, just saying that after the first OS update I would not look for any others. IF it gets 1 more after that then it will be lucky. As for the Nexus S, I had great hopes for it but then I found the Nexus S was by samsung and thought ok ill wait for the next and not the new prime may be a samsung as well so looks like ill wait till the next nexus is an HTC. But if it is a samsung or HTC as long as the phone is bought through ATT dont expect to get the same number of updates as the Euro versions of the same phone. They always will get more updates then its US counter parts. As always been the case and always will be.
This is why the nexus line is a safe bet typically, as it is 'googles' phone, the updates are fast and frequent. The S is a Sammy, but no need to wait on them making the updates play nice with tw .

Yup thats why my next device will be a Nexus, as long as it is not made by samsung
Hi, yesterday I bought the Galaxy s 2 i9100 for $600 thinking its going to be a 10 times better and now after using one day I. Don't think it's any better.
1. It feels soon much smaller its like Nexus S size, and all things feel cramped.
2. I'm using it side by side with all the apps I have they open the same time Infuse looks much nicer, overall same speed.
3. Sound on infuse much much better, the speaker and the earpice.
4. The browser same smoothness nothing more.
That's all I can say. If anyone wants me to compare anything or has any question I'm here to answer.
I think whoever is thinking to buy should not. I was the same wanting to find 10 times better but I can't.
INFUSE 4G IS MUCH MUCH BETTER.

But what about buying one at upgrade price (once it comes out) I've heard rumblings about it coming out 10/2 or something.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
honestly I was always wondering why ppl are so hyped over having the SII. Yeah its faster and better perfomance. But who's gonna need all that on a phone. Texting, calling and game apps is just enough for me.
For upgrade price? I'm not saying it's bad. Its just not better then infuse. Having a bigger screen is better or the speaker sound. There are lots of things in real use better on Infuse 4g

i sold my galaxy s2 long ago when it first comes out in uk! the s2 with 4.27" screen looks like it' 4 inches! do you really need dual core to check emails, surf internet, check emails, or use the gps?
but i will get Canada Rogers galaxy s2 LTE, it has the same huge 4.5 screen as infuse but with dual core 1.5g!
WTF is thinking getting s2 with small 4.27" screen!
Ye we will be getting a bigger infuse. I'll be getting it later on. I guess this Infuse is just temporary for now haha
GS2 (Epic Touch ) on Sprint has a 4.5 in screen, so the att version will have a smaller screen?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
ATT has a 4.3" screen because AT&T can't do anything right, never has, never will. *cough1.5mbit4Gcough*

To be fair, the WWE SGS2 has a 4.3" display. The SGS2 that Samsung developed has the 4.3". T-Mobile and Sprint requested a larger screen. AT&T chose to accept the original size. Probably so there wouldn't be a conflict with the Infuse.
Whatever you need to tell yourself.
Isn't the SGS II marginally thicker than the Infuse? By like .3mm or something?
To the OP.. are you comparing the SGS2 with the stock rom against a Infuse with a modded rom? or stock for stock

Stock for stock there is clearly a difference. Benchmarks and real world scenarious show the sgs2 is clearly better
But.....I could definitely see someone having buyers remorse over paying $600 for a phone
I am still waiting for the celox.

Well, just to throw this it out there since you guys seem to dislike the SGS2 so much, I'll trade anyone my Infuse for an SGS2 without thinking twice. You say what you will, but the dual core and (almost more importantly to me) 1 GB of RAM is NICE, and I want it.

Other way around.
Sprint has a wicked carbon fiber case with a built in kickstand for the sprint version. Damn that thing is nice, don't think the infuse will fit in it though.

I'm curious if the SGS2 works like the atrix in that the second core only runs on media stuff. The atrix second core really only runs when the dock is connected or gaming. Can you tell if SGS2 is like that. If so I would stick with infuse. Gig of RAM sounds good, but for what I do the Infuse Ram is sufficient. Unlike my Captivate which didn't have the 512 it boasted (still a mystery).

So you need a dual core for phone calla, texting, and the occasional web browsing? I don't, I need LTE!

Thank You! Was thinking on the update but nah...My Infuse is great and I'm finally used to it, coming from an iPhone (bleccchh) +1

You sure? The Epic Touch is 9.33mm or something and the infuse is 8.99.
Or did Sprint just blindly inflate their phone to make it teh legitz?

Really? Would you like for the infuse to drain the battery twice as fast all the time when it only needs the extra 100% drain for games and a few apps?
