Microsoft outlook exchange sync - Samsung Infuse 4G

Is there any way to support active sync on the infuse 4g
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Trying to make the contacts and calendar and notes sync to the infuse without hook up to a cpu
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

I see. I'd think the built in mail app would allow you to do that but I use TouchDown so.... sorry I can't be more help

That is correct; the native email app does support Exchange ActiveSync. I use a modified version of it though called Enhanced Email. It has a few touches that are very useful, such as push capabilities for any folder, not just the inbox.

Is that just a app from market?? Found this thing called companiagn link. And samsung said the infuse doesnt support active sync that would just be retarded though

ActiveSync is built in to infuse
I have set up my Infuse to ActiveSync my account on Office365. It will sync the primary contact, inbox, and calendar. If you have other folders in addition to Inbox, you will have to click on each folder to bring in the new items. No additional software is needed.

Yes, MS Active Sync does work
see this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813920
go to post #16, i give exact instructions on how to set it up. If gives you complete exchange like control over your msn/hotmil/live email accounts, including calendar and contact syncing and full access to all your email folders, and best of all, email can be viewed as html.

Contacts Sync issues

I got my captivate on last thursday for $349 commit free. Great! Anyway, I migrated from a WinMo Tilt 2 that was hacked to DeepShining custom ROM with the latest winmo build. I was using MyPhone service to sync all my contacts online. Now that I have switched to android (and i love it), I need a way to transfer all my contacts from winmo to google. since the phone contacts refuse to sync with outlook on my desktop, i transferred all of them directly to my captivate using BT exchange. now the problem is that the phone contacts wont sync with my gmail contacts. any ideas on how to do that?
I think the best way to get contacts on to an Android phone is to import them into your gmail contacts list, then tell the phone to sync with your gmail contacts.
I came from an iphone, so I had all my contacts in outlook. You can export all your contacts from outlook to a CSV file. Then go to gmail and import your contacts in to gmail using that same CSV file. Then go to your phone under settings there's a "accounts and sync" menu. You can tell it to sync with google there.
At least thats how I did it. It worked fine, it synced all my contacts within a few seconds.
Agreed. I came from a Blackberry and just synced all my contacts to my gmail account, did some cleanup (easier to do from my laptop), and then synced it to my new phone. Very easy and quick.
Has anyone with Google contacts tried to set up a group? I have a work team that I text sometimes and it would be easy to send a group message vs add them one by one. When I go under groups on the phone I can not add any contacts (probably since they are all Google contacts). I also created the group through my computer but it does not show as a group on my phone. I looked for sync settings but I didn't find anything. Any suggestions???

I think this is a weakness of the Captivate. I have tried several options and none work perfect.
I ended up using "gsyncit" to do the Outlook to Gmail Contacts/Calendar syncing. When the Gmail Contacts/Calendar entries sync to your phone however (this will happen automatically), they end up in a single Group ("[email protected]"). So, I use the Android app "Groupy" for contacts and it keeps things sorted on my Captivate. Workable solution but kind of cludgy.
Groupy doesnt work right either...
1) Its slow as all get out, so slow it takes 30 seconds to load on my scree, then it pops up a box to "force close" or "wait". After another 20 seconds it finally loads...and this is with the latest update build as of 7/27.
2) When it does finally load, it shows my gmail contact folders, however the "Family" folder has 0, yet I have quite a few in that folder on Gmail contacts.
Bottom line, groupy doesnt work right, but worst of all a basic function to have your android phone sync correctly with your gmail contacts should work out of the box. PERIOD. I dont understand how this problem isnt at the top of everyone's complaints along with GPS and MMS?
This is still a big issue for me! Samsung needs to fix this and gps now!

Android Email Client?

Ever since I switched from my Tilt2 w/at&t to my Epic 4G w/sprint, I've been obviously using my gmail account more often. Thing is, the built in email client, even for gmail & even when I try it with pop3, just plain sucks. Also, I mainly use my hotmail account, which there isn't really an app for yet. So I have two things. 1. To find a much better email client for android. And 2. To find a way to get all my hotmail to my android. Now, I can fully access and export my entire hotmail account from inside outlook. But I haven't found a way to import pst's into android yet.

I lot of people say K9 mail is the best. I would say its the best of the non-Gmail apps out there. I can't use any other mail besides gmail because I'm so used to the threaded conversations. BUT, Gmail could be better for sure.

Use Seven email client (latest version 7.5.4)with homescreen widget support
It supports Gmail/yahoo/Hotmail/AOl n more
It is push mail client.
I see that you've gotten some good suggestions. I just wanted to tell you to avoid POP3 at all costs. It's a very primitive protocol and should really only be used as a last resort. Use at least IMAP.

Hotmail can be setup for push just like Exchange.
In the email app, tap Add Account, then put in your email address and password and then tap "Manual Setup"
Tap "Exchange Account"
Set the Incoming Mail Server: m.hotmail.com
Leave Domain blank
Set your username to your full @hotmail email address (i.e. include @hotmail.com or @live.com)
Enter your password.
Tap finish.
I recommend to use K9 mail. I use it with my 6 email adresses - 1 gmail, 1 imap and 4 pop3. As far I know hotmail does support pop3, so with K9 you should be able to check all your emails, including hotmail..
K9 is a very nice email client. I've used it for about a year now with imap.

Using K9 with 4 mails accounts, 3 IMAP and one POP3.
Works flawless so far.
K9 mail client is useless as it doesnt accept Exchange, this is ridiculous

[Q] Integrating windows live calendars

Following scenario: I have a Hotmail E-mail address which I have setup as ActiveSync on my Sensation. I obtain the calendar associated with that e-mail address on my phone and changes done on PC or phone sync well so far. Today I discovered that it is possible to create additional Live calendars and sahre them with other people (Didn't really use calendars before). So I went and created a calendar that I am now sharing with my girlfriend. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear on the Sensation, not even the events I create in that calendar on my PC appear. Is there any way to get this thing going? I don't want to use Google calendar...
Hotmail only syncs one calendar over ActiveSync so far as I know.

That's what I discovered - No way to get around this limitation?
Actually, I have already found two possible solutions, which are not perfect but do the job. If anybody knows a better way, please let me know.
1. Get "TouchDown" from the Market. Trial for 30 days, full costs quite a lot. App looks ugly but allows you to sync the calendar somehow. It does not work very good, but I managed to get my events into the app-internal calendar.
2. For my specific scenario, this is a very elegant solution:
Step 1: Get yourself an extra hotmail address.
Step 2: Share the default calendar of that address with yourself (i.e. your normal email address) and your GF.
Step 3: Add the extra hotmail account to your phone, and choose to only sync the calendar.
Now you will see two ActiveSync calendars in your calendar, one for your main email and the other for the new account you created. On your PC, you don't need the other e-mail because you're sharing the calendar with yourself. Almost perfect so far.

Outlook 2010 Sync of Contacts to G-Mail... BEST APP for this??

So I now love Android since getting an Android Gingerbread Tablet and Gingerbread phone... but the one thing I so far can NOT figure out how to do reliably and automatically is syncing my Outlook 2010 Contacts up to my Gmail account (which will then sync from Gmail to my android phone and tablet).
The only way I have been doing it right now is just export my Outlook contacts to a CSV.. then import the CSV into Gmail.. then Gmail syncs down to my phone.
Well this is not the 'automated' solution I am looking for. I have employees that update the Outlook 2010 contact information all day and then I never get the updates on my android phone when in the field. For me to do the CSV import thing every night is a real pain in the ass (my Outlook contact information changes daily btw).
I have a server that stays running all the time with Outlook 2010 installed... I do NOT use an Exchange server btw.. and I do NOT want to use exchange.. so that is out of the question. Basically I guess I am looking for some plugin or something into Outlook 2010 that can sync the 'CONTACTS' folder up with my specified G-mail account.. it would be great to also sync the outlook 'Calender' as well if possible.
and of course 2-way syncing would be ideal.. this way if I am in the field and I get a new contact.. I don't need to take the business card.. give it to my secretary.. who then puts into into Outlook... I would like to be able to the new or updated contact info right into my Android phone.. then it will sync up to Gmail... and then Gmail will sync it right back down into my Outlook system in the office... 2-way syncing automagically would be great!!!!
Thank you all very much for the tips!!! great forum!!!

you could use this
I previously used some Outlook connector but it was buggy and doesn't sync all info from. Same thing with CSV, not sure if all information is synced. If I recall correctly, there are some limitations on Google's side.
But if you have an Exchange account set-up on the phone, doesn't it intergrate all contacts? Why the need to have them in gmail if intergration takes place on your device?
I do NOT use exchange, and will NOT ever be using Exchange..

Sorry, Outlook for me is fully linked with Exchange... Assumption, the mother of all f#ckups
Right..
So but you must be using some kind of central email server that Outlook is connecting to when your secretarry is filing those businesscards.
MyPhoneExplorer?
CodeTwo Public Folders..
http://www.codetwo.com/public-folders/
it works like an exchange server sorta.. really cool program... takes all the hassle out of setting up and managing an exchange server..
Google Apps Sync for Outlook should work fine for you. I used that and the migration tool when we migrated the company to Google Apps. It should let you specify what you want synced as well.
We did not use Exchange either.

Questions from a longtime XDA Member recently converting to Galaxy S8+

Hello all I have been a long time XDA member and took a leave of absence due to MS not really tailoring to Windows Phone.
I just picked up a S8+ and it is a nice device but I am struggling a bit and remembered how hopeful this site is.
Is there a single email and calendar application that can handle all my email accounts (live, office 365, work exchange)?
In addition I seem to be missing a good bit of contacts as I have my primary live account and gmail account on the device.
I can tell you this is a nice device but coming from Windows phone setup is tedious I have to figure out my facebook contact sync and WhatsApp sync as well.
Any tips from a convert would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for all your help my new family
I have been away from xda for quite sometime because I had an iPhone, switching to this phone also was a bit painful but it turned out to be easier than I thought.
You have Gmail, I'm using it for my work email (Microsoft), Hotmail, Yahoo and my Google account. It's works very nice.
As for the missing contacts, you can go to settings and accounts and add any account you want, open it, and activate contact sync. Not sure if it can sync Facebook contacts. Or you can just try from the Facebook settings
Hi there,
im using Outlook for syncing mail and calendar. However using samsung calendar app you have everything synced and good to go. Also, you can sync your exchange/office365 to show your contacts in contact list.
What have I notcied, that Microsoft have much improved their apps on Android. Take a look at BlueMail as well - it syncs gmail and office and any other mail you need.
For Facebook i'm using Metal as I hate stock facebook app.

Yeah but the native Samsung Email and Calendar apps don't grab this information. In addition adding new contacts is such a pain as you have to do it directly in the outlook app instead of the default phone/contacts app. I have had this issue numerous times.
I hope they are able to fix this as I shouldn't have to migrate all my shared calendars to google from outlook.com to be able to work with them.
Great device but these items should just work and I think it may just be a Samsung issue I am working on getting another device to test.
As amon87 said BlueMail is the way.
