[FIX][AOSP][MIUI] All GPS fixes! - EVO 4G Android Development

Lately I've been seeing so many different threads about fixing GPS issues in AOSP / CM7 gingerbread roms (accuracy, lock time, etc). I couldn't find a central location with all the available fixes and drivers for the Evo, so here it is.
Drivers:
**NEW** - Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.1 (recommended) - Updated fix with latest Qualcomm Vision driver, should be less buggy. Fast gps locks, very accurate, no wake locks, no 100% cpu. Thread HERE. Flashable zip HERE (thanks galandy)
Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.0 - Original fix, uses leaked Vision gingerbread driver. Fast gps locks, very accurate, no wake locks, no 100% cpu. Thread HERE. Flashable zip HERE (thanks galandy)
KingdomROM GPS Driver - Custom combination of RADIO/PRI/NV/Wimax/GPS - Fixes GPS and wake locks. Thread HERE. Flashable zip HERE (thanks JBabey)
Cyanogen Mod Nightly 39 GPS Driver - Some people claim these drivers work better than the current ones provided by CM7. Thread HERE. Flashable zip HERE (thanks daryelv)
EVO Gingerbread GPS Driver - Driver from the official gingerbread update. Some people are having success with these on AOSP roms (but check for cpu usage, you might have wakelocks). Thread HERE and HERE (thanks itlnstln and JusticeAA). Flashable zip HERE (thanks galandy).
Workarounds / Other fixes
GPSCLRX Sense Workaround - Clear GPS corrupted stats from a Sense rom. Thread HERE (thanks SantinoInc)
AGPS Data Refresh - Fixes dropouts by applying the latest AGPS information. Thread HERE (thanks DFlame)
Report back, and let me know of other available fixes I could add here!

I can finally delete the bookmarks I had for those pages haha. I guess if I would have just saved the files to dropbox or something that would have been easier... but oh well.
Thanks for the central location.

I don't believe this has been included in your original post, but this driver/fix worked well for me:

Thanks! Post updated

The KingdomROM GPS driver was giving me 100% CPU usage with CM7.0.3.1. Is that an isolated occurrence or does it only play nicely with certain ROMs? I switched to the Vision driver and all is well.

The KingdomROM driver may need a specific version of the PRI/RADIO to be able to work without causing a high cpu usage. The Vision driver doesn't seem to be affected by PRI/RADIO combinations.

Yep... this one cured my GPS issues, too.
My CM7 GPS is rock solid now!
EDIT: It was actually this link (and the .zip) that did the trick:

Why in ****s name has the CM team not merged the Vision driver into gerrit???
Does anybody know the reason? Please don't say because they haven't got to it yet.

Many thanks for posting this up. The only complaint I have is that there are too many options to choose from. Isn't there one single best option out of the lot of them? Can we flash these one after the other to see what works best or will that f*ck things up?
Once again, thanks for posting all these fixes for the AOSP roms...this problem can be so annoying for those of us that use the navigation feature that we want to go back to Sense!

Are .so files that difficult to reverse engineer? I have reverse engineered .class files for Java and obviously .NET stuff is easy to do simply through .NET Reflector for stuff like this, but I have no clue what .so files are...like what programming language was used? What compiler, etc.

I would say go with the Qualcomm Vision driver if it works for you. That works perfectly for me. Yes, you can flash one driver after the other with no issues. And if ever want to revert to the standard driver provided by CM, just flash THIS and you will be back where you started.

Any chance we can get a flashable zip of this? Is that possible? I'm not programming savvy or I would try myself. I'm on CM7 nightlies and it's a pain to have to go through all those steps each time I flash a new nightly. Thanks!

Here you go. But just so you know, this driver seems to cause a high cpu usage / wake locks on non-Sense roms.

no they are different because one works and one is buggy as hell (basically doesn't work). If we can reverse engineer the Vision driver, we can then merge "new" GPS code into Gerrit for the Supersonic.

Read this whole post before downloading!!!!
Well, I removed stock apps, I inserted a lot of cm7 stuff, I added over-scroll and CRT, I fixed gallery drain, I removed all 4g related stuff (it doesn't work, so why the extra space ), I added some things to init.d (they wont work until we have support), I changed the build.prop to be nexus-ish (Netflix shows and works), I did a bunch of other random stuff.
I RECOMMEND AFTER YOU FLASH (IF YOU DON'T DO THE * ONES SOME THINGS WONT WORK):
*Download GPS status and clear a-GPS status
*Download CPU Master or SetCPU and change the governor to what you want (if you want ondemand and it is already, just change to conservative and then back)
-not necessary but really recommended- Download a SD tweak app and change the setting to 2048
*Download battery widget and place it somewhere (fixes battery issues)
*Go into settings-display-animations-all
Look at this http://www.tested.com/news/25-essential-tweaks-to-perform-on-your-new-android-phone/1656/

This is RFS-only. There is no EXT4 support - believe me, ACS tried to hack it in there for you, but it's just not happening right now. Other devs are welcome to try, but ACS doesn't believe it's possible at this point. However, the kernel is rooted, and contains Busybox for your device usage pleasure.

Init.d support would really be nice...
I need some help wiff teh AOSP lock...
Not familiar with how to remove CIQ
YOU NEED RFS (CWM 2.x.x OR CWM 3.0.2.5). Only tested on CWM 2, don't trust CWM 3, IDK why.
Open source licenses: http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html
Flash the rerfs first
Bugs:
4g is non functional.
Phone only powers on while unplugged (plug in after boot). Still charges, just doesnt boot.
This leak is from ACS's leaker and I hold no legal responsibility regarding the ED12 leak, I am unaware who this leaker is, but I just modified what was made available for speed and stability.
Support is discontinued until ee03 rom is done.
I'm so glad to see someone working on this!

My request would be to take the theme from Simply AOSP ROM and port it over to this new rom. Just the basic's. not all of it. so it's more gingerish.

I needed suggestions
My suggestion would be to wait.
(Taken from ACS's OP on ED12)
Known Bugs
4G non-functional
GPS non-functional out of the box - WORKAROUND: get GPS Status from the Market; reset AGPS status (works with wireless networks off)
Wake lag present
Does not boot when plugged in and powered off, unplug to boot
Temperature sensor readings are incorrect. You may see interrupted charging due to bad battery temp readings.
ED12 is really an Alpha if anything. There is a reason other Dev's haven't quickly been updating their ROMs to Gingerbread. It's not ready.
Not to mention there is no source code, no kernel support, etc..

My suggestion would be to give him suggestions for a ROM he is making, not be a tool. A lot of people want to use Gingerbread now regardless of the issues. I, for one, don't use 4G (not in my area) and don't use GPS. I'd rather sacrifice a little to use Netflix right now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050666
I agree to waiting. Just for the fact that so much is non-functioning. However! Just because a few won't be jumping on board doesn't mean you shouldn't DK28 on the bit. Who knows when actual GB will be coming out.
That's a link to TouchWiz 4.0 ported to the Galaxy S. I heard they got it working on the captivate and vibrant as well.

You're right.. how improper of me to recommend waiting to avoid problems. As requested here are my suggestions..
Suggestions
Fix 4G
Fix GPS
Fix the wake lag
Won't boot if plugged in, recommend fixing that as well
Oh and fix the Temperature Sensors so the battery will charge properly (Anyone else realize that's a huge huge bug?)
I'm not trying to be pessimistic and more power to him or anyone else who makes a ED12 ROM but it's in bad bad shape.. and I'd never recommend building a house with a foundation of mud.
Just saying..

My suggestions:
1) ignore the trolls, they have nothing but negativity to add
2) ignore those that say wait, if you are offering the time, why wait, some people may want even a flaky release to play with
3) add as much black to the theme as possible to help save battery since you said you couldn't do kernel work
4) post updates on your effort a lot, even if it is a "not yet ready, no eta"
Questions, though they may both be a kernel thing:
Will this work only with CWM 2.5.5, as it would only be RFS?
Is it possible for WiFi tether to work with this?
This build should work with the Netflix app, correct?
After all, if the bug list ONLY includes, no 4G, no GPS, wake lag, and battery temp issue, that would make for a pretty good play around with build! Heck, that's a lot better than other "play around with" builds I have tried out in the past!

Q&A
Is this CM7?
No, this is a build that started from AOSP. However, some of the fixes and few features have been derived from the CyanogenMod Team, including the CM kernel.
How social is the evervolv team?
You can join us on IRC, irc.freenode.net #evervolv. Or follow preludedrew and the status of Evervolv @preludedrew on twitter.
Does this rom include the T-Mobile Theme Engine? Downloading now but I'm at work so I'll report back in a little bit. Much appreciated

This tastes smooth
Did a fresh wipe/data reset. Flashed the rom and the gb-0325 gapps. Everything installed with no issues, first boot went smooth.
It's a decent looking rom even though the font is really hard on my crappy eyesight, overall I like it so far besides the few issues i ran into. Market works and reinstalled all of my apps without issue. Everything syncs(contacts, gmail, apps, etc) Sent and received a few SMS messages. 1x/3g works. Browsed the internet. Can make and receive calls.
I thought it was a little slow after first boot but after a reboot it isn't as clunky and sporadicly laggy. Gallery took a bit initially but i think it was generating the new thumbnails
Camera force closes and does not open.
I receive an error when trying to start wifi. It just says error, I will logcat or something later when my kids aren't trying to beat me mercilessly.

Normal distributions for phones that are supported go as follows
Test builds (current stage of the heroc), These go on irc in the main topic, i often tweet about them being there... but not always.
Nightly builds ( I call them nightlies because I used to do them once or twice a night for people back when gingerbread first came out, now i just put out nightlies when I think the rom is good, but want one last test ). - These can be found on twitter and in the IRC channels main topic.
XDA/evervolv.com builds - These are the obvious release builds... I do not do 'Stable releases' just because there's always something out there that im trying out... learning how to do.. so ya'all get what we're doing anyways. For the most part a 'beta' build is something that is stable enough for usage... yet the next week there could be something borked because im adding new things (like standalone power widgets are currently borked... working on them as soon as this message is written).
As far as the heroc is concerned, im fine with smoothtaste compiling and distributing.. ( this is an open community afterall) but i'll be doing an official release shortly (was close to doing one before 2.3.4 was merged, and then got busy with that =p)
my twitter account - @preludedrew
I post everything i do on there, kind of a 'twitlog' if you will.

I'm getting ready to release my rom which is based off of yours which was based off of thebakeryoven which is based off of decks...hahahaha...I mean, how many times is decks work going to get ripped and turned into an "improved rom"....I mean, I could see if you were actually developing this BUT you're just editing the build.prop to make it your own and MAYBE adding or taking a few apps here and there BUT at the end of the day, you're not doing NOTHING....thebakeryoven didn't do anything and you most likely won't do anything but wait til either jaredthegreat or decks to do something so you can kang it.....JUST saying!...hahaha
So what made thebakeryoven drop work?????

His laptop broke and he decided to quit supporting that rom so he can learn first instead of kanging people's work left and right...
@mazdarider23
before you start saying anything on thebakeryoven or me get your facts straight build.prop wasnt the only thing "just edited" dalvik mods where added look for yourself also systemui.apk settings.apk and framework-res.apk where all decompiled edited and recompiled.
yes I understand that is not much I am not an experienced Developer but that is a lot more than just editing some text or build.props
I hope you do some better modding to this Rom but check the work before you go off saying things about thebakery or me.
this is the reason most developers are banning these projects.
and also I am not to proud to say Deck is a way better dev than me and is far more experienced.
and yes you may even be a better dev than me but you cant expect much from a single inexperienced dev
if you want to criticize take time out of your day to show us more!!!

What if I want to help?
Firstly, you need to read this and then compile android from winsuk's source. Then, look below and see what you need to do. Also, if you happen to get something to work, I can add your name to the developer list above. Thanks!

-Someone needs to try this and rename camera.qsd8k.so to camera.liberty.so and copy it into /system/lib/hw/camera.liberty.so. According to rapmv78, this should fix the camera.
Note to mods: Please PM me if there is something wrong with this thread, because I don't want this to be taken down again.
^ ^ ^ thanks For this. Hopefully this stays ;p
Love my Aria !!
It seemed like it got taken down due to the GPL restrictions in the thread in the stickies. I'm sure winsuk can reupload it following. The new guidelines.

Lol! Well the only reason she knows what it is, is because of me talking about flashing different previews on my phone. But still I'd really like to see this running on the Aria.

If anyone wants, I can post instructions for what you can do to help with this project....This will involve having a linux system and compiling stuff (instructions will be provided).
I would be more than willing to help, but I dont have access to a linux OS.

You could dual boot: http://www.ubuntu.com/ (and of course, it's free ).
You can also create a bootable Linux USB drive http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/.

Okay then, I will post up some instructions for you guys to help out in this project.
Edit:
I added some stuff for you guys to follow/do. It should fix (or help fix) the camera.
I'd love to help! I'll fire up my Linux distro after work today and see what I can find.
EDIT:
SSH'd in to it, downloading everything now! Should have a build by the end of the night.
Nice. Let me know if you get any errors...

Had some interesting fun with the packages on Oneiric. Turns out lib32readline5-dev no longer exists in the repositories. I managed to find the lib32readline5 package, will that suffice, or should I remove that package and manually install the -dev one? Found a .deb for it after I had already started the repo sync.
you should be fine without it...as long as you have ubuntu 64bit (Oneric).
If you get any build errors (like I did), let me know because there is a fix for it...
Also, please try out the HAL camera as I said in my first post before you compile the rom.
THanks!
Hi there guys, Great to see that work is still being done on such an old phone, though its old, im stuck with it so a fresh look can be nice once in a while , Ill be keeping a keen eye on the updates , i tried the rom for myself and am impressed, not too far away from making this a RC imo, oh and, if anyone is keen, is anyone able to look into making the earpiece volume for incalls a little louder? I wasnt able to test it myself because no calls were going through, only texts , but if its anything like the original htc sence rims or the CM6-7.x 's they are a tad quiet and would do with some modding anyways thats just my 2 cents, Happy Modding!
Oh and i tried the camera "patch" I think, it didnt seam to fix it for me, though all i did is unpacked the files placed the renamed fixed camera .SO file into the correct location, then repacked the lot before flashing, I dont know if i was supposed to delete the other camera file that was there??

[DEV/ROM][FROM SOURCE][CAF GB 2.3.6][build #20][3/21]

Here is my Skyrocket ROM built from Code Aurora Forum source. This is Android 2.3.6. It is not even close to a daily driver and probably never will be.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS UNLESS YOU ARE VERY EXPERIENCED IN DEBUG AND KNOW HOW TO USE 'adb'.
I am posting this to help with the effort to build a community ICS ROM. Perhaps my device tree will help. As such, I do not plan on spending any more time debugging the issues with the rom. I would rather focus on helping the community get an ICS build going.

What works?
calls (no audio), sms, 2D graphics, wifi, bluetooth
What doesn't work?
cell data, audio, nfc, int+ext sdcards
Instructions for install:
In CWM, wipe factory
In CWM, install this zip
Reboot + wait up to 3 minutes
If you get the lock screen with no way to unlock, connect to your computer and run "adb reboot". You should then get the proper unlock slider.
Notes:
sdcard is detected incorrectly, so do NOT allow it to attempt a format (it will say 'damaged sdcard'--just ignore this)
Even though it says "No SIM Card" calls in and out will work, although no audio...
Updates: 3/21/12
Added link to build instructions on Github
Pushed commits to Github that simplify the build

You should be more optimistic
It will work some day, don't think it won't ever be working.

just for my understanding, what is the hurdle to getting data to work, seems like it is always the hardest thing to enable.
For gb builds on our phone I always see call audio being a hurdle

Nrm is right. Audio seems to be the biggest hurdle.
This rom makes an LTE connection but the data connection just isn't used. Not sure why, but this problem seems easier than audio (which I have had no luck debugging so far)

Oh wow, if you get AOSP GB fully operational for the phone (other then call audio, dunno whats up with that), we could get CM7 working fully (with source), and get official!
I really hope you succeed.

Thanks Longcat. Like alphadog pointed out, I'm not actively working on this one right now in favor of helping out the ICS efforts. But if someone else would like to collaborate or even pick up where I left off, please have at it. My reason for starting this ROM was to eventually get CM7 fully stable, as you suggested.
I wish someone would be able to pick this up I understand the importance of ics but the hurdles with gb seem far fewer than ics and would tide the masses over once I get my other hdd set up with Ubuntu I hope to take a peek

FYI: I updated the OP with a link to the build instructions. I also pushed changes to my Github that simplifies and cleans up some of the build.

Yes, a link to his post would help. I searched XDA and Github, finding only stuff about Vibrant roms that he has done.
