A little help needed to point me in the right direction, first radio flash!! - HTC Inspire 4G

Using Gingerbeast ROM
Trying to figure out how to update/flash my firstradio. I downloaded the latest ATT radio (.06.06.30_M) file and placed it in my SD card (I remove the old PD98IMG.zip file correct and replace with new one?). I am using rom manager and went into reboot into recovery then:
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from sdcard
Selected the PD98IMG
Yes-install
then at the bottom it said:
Finding update pack
opening update pack
installing update
installation aborted
After reading instruction;
Download the PD98IMG.zip file. Place this file on the root of your SD card. Reboot to bootloader. When prompted, press the Volume Up button to install. Then reboot.
I was never prompted......for anything.
Please forgive me this is my first..
Thanks
Any suggestions

Are you sure you booted to "bootloader" and not recovery. Your first part implies that you tried this from recovery which WILL NOT WORK.
Are you sure that your file is called PD98IMG.zip and not mangled by mac or windows OS which try to unzip or rename to .zip.zip respectively.

Correct you point out my mistake, did not realize it was a difference. Trying it now.
Thanks

OK got done, that was simple.
Now running Gingerbeast with the latest ATT radio.
Great and thanks, on my way...

And one more if I may for today. Do I remove the zip files (PD98IMG and ROM) from my sd card after I install. Will the PD98IMG zip file affect anything if I try another ROM by leaving it on my sd card or trying out different ROMS does not effect my radio???

You can leave it on but I prefer you move it off the root of the sd card just in case you get in a bootloop
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App

You can leave them if you want though I would remove/rename/move the pd98img.
Flashing different roms wont affect your radio. Though you might have to flash your radios corresponding ril if the rom does not include it
No hay de queso no mas de papa

Understood, thanks

I have found with Coredroid, that in order to get the RIL to flash, I have to manually mount /system in Recovery before flashing the .zip, just FYI. That said, it could have to do with me trying to flash with gtg's RIL flasher from ROM Manager, so YMMV. (Well, now, of course, the .06.06.30 RIL is in my Rom Manager downloads folder, so it's just a matter of reflashing it after flashing a new ROM)

Thanks for the reply guys!
New problem I need to figure out, now when I go to check my voice mail (hold down #1 on dial pad) it says no voice mail number on SD card...
humm something I need to go try and figure, I need my voice mail.

Go into call setting then voicemail settings and add your number.

Flashing radio question

I've followed shadowfox's instruction on how to flash a radio and have been looking at the new inspire radio thread and I've followed the instructions (not well enough obviously) but when I boot into hboot it says that the image can't be found. I've downloaded the radio file and replaced it in the hack fit file and put it on my sdcard but doesn't seem to work. The name is correct. I'm not sure what place it on the root of the sdcard means so I got this feeling I'm not putting it on my sdcard correctly? thanks for the help. I know, newb question but I'm doing my best.
Root of the sd card is on the as card and in no folder whatsoever
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
So pretty much just putting it on the sd card then correct? beacause I've done that and it doesn't recognize that it's there. Here's what I did so if you see anything wrong then it might be easier for you to help me?
1. Download radio from thread (ex.using the radio from the cleardroid thread)
2. take the zip file and replaced it in the PD file from the hack kit
3. put the .zip file on the sd card.
as I was looking at the instructions, am I supposed to take the radio file I downloaded and actually name the radio.img file the pd98img.zip and compress it? I'm sorry if this is frustrating to work through.

Just like XAviierG said, make sure that it's not placed into any folders of any kind when you're putting it on your sd card. If you use Root Explorer (or a similar file browser), and you go into your /sd card directory, you should see the PD98IMG.zip file in that directory without having to open a folder to get to it. This is referred to as the "root" of your sd card. If your radio of choice is there, just boot into HBOOT per the Radio sticky's instructions and flash away. Just don't power-down or disturb the radio upgrade in any way once you press Volume-Up to accept the upgrade. As always, verify those MD5's while the files are on your sd card for both the radio and the matching RIL prior to flashing the radio zip, (you'll flash the RIL from Recovery after mouning /system if you need to flash it). You can use something like Android File Verifier or Astro File Manager to verify the MD5's if you don't have an MD5 verifier on your PC.
Still not working, I see it while I use the file explorer and for some reason when I boot into hboot it doesn't recognize its there...As per shadow's instructions am I supposed to rename the radio.img in the download radio file to pd98img and zip it and then place it on the sd card? or just move the downloaded zip file right to the sd card?
why doesnt anyone use the RADIOS/RILS thread any more? the instructions are great and the files are already in correct format

Do it the easy way. Just go to THIS THREAD and grab the radio that you need, (the newest radio for the Inspire is the 26.10.04.03_M radio and the matching RIL is the 0153 RIL), and put those 2 files on the root of your sd card. Keep in mind that ClearD will already have a RIL packed in with the ROM, but I've never ran ClearDroid, so I'm not sure which RIL it may be. The radio is around 10MB or so in size and the RIL is about 447KB or so. Flash the radio (PD98IMG.zip) through HBOOT and then reboot the phone when prompted. Once you're up and running, you should be in business. I wouldn't mess with the RIL just yet. Like I said before, ClearD will already have one packed in. I can see that ClearD is a great Dev, so enjoy that ROM!
EDIT: Keep in mind that if you've downloaded anything to your PC in PD98IMG.zip format, you'll want to delete that from your PC first before downloading another one. The reasoning behind this is so that your download manager doesn't rename the file to something like PD98IMG(1).zip, or anything like that. If that zip is not named EXACTLY PD98IMG (the .zip portion will show up on your phone's sd card, but perhaps not when on your PC) when you boot into HBOOT, it will not parse properly, and HBOOT will just look at you like you just farted in Church.

If you're still having trouble, I figured out what I was doing wrong and it may be the same thing for you...when i downloaded the radio file for cleardroid, I had to rename the file to "PD98img.zip". My computer already had it as a zipped file so when I added the .zip to the end of it, it was actually being called "PD98img.zip.zip" and therefore hboot wasn't finding the file. Rename it PD98img if your computer is recognizing the file as a zipped file already..the radios on the thread given a couple post up don't need to be named so I didn't run into the same problem with those. Hope this helps man! good luck!

Are you having any radio issues? What version are you running? Are you S-OFF and/or ENG HBOOT?
I am eng s-off I can flash any Rom or ril but radios want fly
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
What radio are you trying to flash? Some devs that come from the dhd section will post the radio without the needed text file inside inorder to flash via hboot. They still tend flash pushing it through adb. So for those files you simply can't rename to pd98img and flash

Don't forgot to make a nandroid backup before in case of you want to go back to stock without flashing a sbf.
i m not getting u to restore nandroid i shld get option to select it i dont get tht option
It sounds like you may be in stock recovery. We have to use a bootstrapped recovery called openrecovery. After you have installed openrecovery you get to it by holding the volume up key during a normal boot.

so wht shld i do??? is der a problem with my sd card????
Reading your post, I think there is a step that was missed. Did you extract the openrecovery.zip? The extracted contents are what is in this folder sdcard/openrecovery.
Do you have this set up on your SD card?
Sdcard/openrecovery.zip
sdcard/openrecovery
sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery/<your ROM you want to restore>
**No spaces between**
Go to this thread and download and unzip this recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1242259) This is what we are all using now b/c of the customization that MZ put into it. Follow the directions.
Yes yes yes yes!!! U were right i missed tht step i got it working Thank u thank u

Here is one more problem. I have installed this rom now after installation of this ROM i m getting an Error PLMN failed.
Check you APNs but IIRC the PLMN error didn't really matter. I saw it on Hellmonger's ROM. Might want to ask Linertymonger, I think he had a fix for that.

something crazy going on. I copy the file onto the tablet and it does not stay. i see it in the folder, (tried while tablet was on and tried copying file while in recovery. i see the file is on the tablet on my computer but when i go to flash it is not there??? do they check recovery (if i cant flash this one back)?
thanks!!!
They probably don't check BUT can't guarantee it!
Are you selecting the "install zip from sdcard" option in CWM (different than the "apply sdcard:update.zip" option). The first option lets you browse for any zip you want the second looks specifically for a zip called update.zip in the root of sdcard.
You should use the "install zip from sdcard" option since the filename for the stock recovery isn't update.zip.
Al
yes, i am choosing the right option. The file I copied is not really coping to the tablet. so weird
thanks for the help... I just downloaded from the tablet and got it done...really, thanks a bunch!!!!
The only reason I could think that it would do that is if it hasn't finished copying or the Android is seeing the file as damaged.
Android perioically does file system checks (it's the scanning sdcard notifications you may see periodically). If it finds a corrupt file it moves it and moves it to the LOST.DIR folder.
Are you sure you are giving it enough time to fully copy? Are you sure you got a good download from the link. Try opening the zip on your PC to make sure it isn't damaged. After transferring to the tablet open your file manager & long press on it...it should give you the option to Extract to....see if it will extract the contents to a folder (to make sure the zip transferred OK) if it extract fine you know the zip is intact & you can then delete the extracted folder/contents.

[Q] HELP rooted Nexus S w/ Cyanogen mod 9

I rooted my phone (nexus s i9020a at&t) and have superuser and downloaded rom manager. I had no idea how to figure out how to flash a rom onto my device on my mac so I downloaded one of the many cyanogen mod 9's directly in rom manager. The rom loaded up perfectly and runs smoothly except there is no app market. When I try to go back into rom manager it force quits out.
I am very new to rooting and hacking into my phone and tried searching for hours and can't figure out what to do. If anyone knows how I can just flash a new updated version of cyanogen mod 9 without using rom manager that would be awesome. I really just need a step by step way to do it on the mac because every time someone posts a rom .zip file it downloads as a folder with random stuff in it and in recovery mode in my phone I don't know how to go about flashing it. So confused. Any help would be so appreciated.

Check your PM. I couldn't post links as it would have been my first post.
cm9 issue
thanks did you get my replies to your pm? i can't figure this out haha
download cm9 and the gapps add-on(with your phone) in the first post of the cm9 thread. boot into recovery, fimd your rom and gapps files, flash cm9 there, then flash the gapps(google apps), then reboot. you do not need rom manager.
Hmm cm9 does not come pre loaded with android app market so u will have to download the latest gapps from other posts in this forum... then copy it into ur phone from ur computer...then after going to cwm recovery use the volume up down buttons to scroll and the power button to choose...u will have to remember where u pasted the gapps file and u will have to navigate to it ...choose the gapps file and scroll down to yes to flash it then go back and reboot...that's it u will now have google apps in ur nexus s...Remember u do not need to open the downloaded gapps zip file as there is nothing u can do by opening it...good luck and happy flashing...

edit: so i guess on my mac when i download the zip file it must unzip it during download and becomes a folder. so i tried compressing the folder back into zip format and go back into recovery and load it but it says installation aborted.

It didn't work it says no file found do you know where I can download the Original Stock Rom and when i try starting it up it go's to a black screen with a green arrow pointing towards the found then it goes to the phone with a red triangle with a red exclamation point. What is that?
If your backup is not recognised you have put it in the wrong folder i think. So tell us, where the files are on your sd card.

Can I go to some website to download the original stock Rom and kernel I need to fix my phone asap so can you please tell me exactly what I need to do. Plus what are those symbols i describe in my last reply. Thanks so much for assisting me I appreciate it.
The files must be in folder: clockworkmod/backup/2013-04-01.18.46.58
The last folder is the date it was created.
The symbols mean, your flash has failed.
What if that doesn't work

Hey man I download that file but its not in zip its in Rar. so I just move the file on to my external sd out in the open not in a folder and I opened up my CWM from the install zip from sd card and that didn't work then I went to restore and it could find the file both times so how do I install it? Do I have to put it in a certain folder or something? It keeps saying no file found. Thanks
Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.
So Noob17_Me, flash this rom from here.

Yea but what im trying to say is that the file I downloaded isn't in zip form. So how am I supposed to install it on CWM?
Sorry but what is so difficult to understand? The rar is not for flashing, its a cwm backup and if you unrar it you have a folder Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3, inside you find a folder clockworkmod.
This clockworkmod folder you have to copy to SD, like it is and and boot into recovery and choose "restore".
And my zip is made from this backup, so it are the same files!
