After updating around 20 apps (altogether ), I noticed the phone was not functioning normally so I tried to reboot it but now it is stuck on Google logo. I've never unlocked the phone nor used any custom roms. I'm on the latest stock rom 2.3.4
I tried removing the battery and putting it back but didn't work. Vol. up + power and then Recovery didn't work either. It gives me a triangle with ! in it and stops right there.
I also tried the USB Jig that forces the phone into downloading mode but it gave me a screen that asks (Unlock bootloader?) with some warnings but I don't know how to accept that. Niether Vol buttons nor Power button worked there
I didn't want to mess up with the phone until I hear from you guys. Please help
up.......
You might have to actually root it or use the Samsung exe back to factory. That is if you don't want to mess with it because if I ware in your position I'd be going back for a new phone. You did nothing wrong and you have 1 year warranty on it.
FYI, the triangle with ! actually is recovery. The UI is hidden until you hold power and press vol down.

Thanks man, I didn't know about that
Is wiping the data (factory reset) going to delete my stuff stored on my SD card? like pic., music, vid. etc?
and do I need to actually wipe the data or will wiping the chache only work?
Factory reset reverts your phone back to the way it was when you got it.
That means all your account settings, device settings, installed applications etc are gone. Everything stored on your SD card will remain there - it's a different storage. The good thing about our Google phones is that you only have to login to Google once and all your stuff is back.
You can try wiping the cache first and see if that works, it won't harm anything. But if that doesn't work, I'm sure a factory reset will.
Good luck.

Can you connect your device to your computer via USB and start "adb logcat" at the Terminal/Command prompt? Does it give you any kind of readout at all?
Try doing a hard reset.

One thing you should consider is just returning the phone, especially if you never flashed or rooted or unlocked bootloader.

I would if I was in the States
just unlock it and flash a nice CM7 with Trinity on top
Here's a rooting guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
There's another guide out there for the i9023 (European version).

No. The device doesn't even show up when I type "adp devices"
Is there anything else I should try?
Thanks
I can perform things with Fastboot
I don't want to root or unlock the phone. Is there anything else I can do?
I tried typing Fastboot update update.zip after downloading the stock rom update 2.3.4 and putting it in the SDK tools directory but it gave me the msg "faild to upload update.zip"
Try to reset with Odin.

Hi there,
I need some help here. My wife's Sprint Nexus S is acting up - keep popping messages such as "Unfortunately XXX has stopped." So I decided to do a hard reset. I followed the instructions but weirdly the phone did not do it. It acted like doing the hard resetting but then rebooted with nothing changed. I tried both the software way - Settings, factory reset, and the hardware way - Vol up button + Power, then recovery, then Vol up + Power again at the Android with exclamation image, chose "Wipe all data and factory reset." However, the phone boots with nothing changed.
Can anyone help me with this? What else can I try?
Thanks much in advance.

You could try fixing the permissions on the files through Rom Manager; it fixes a lot of Force Close generally.

This one is actually the Sprint stock rom untouched. So... no Rom Manager on it. Thanks anyway. I guess a custom recovery is the only way to go now...
<DELETED>
I wouldn't install a custom recovery, and ultimately technically void your warranty, for the sole purpose of resetting it though...
Just use a one click root tool, it flashes superuser, cmw, but keeps the rest of the (stock) rom you're on!

Thanks to you all for all the good suggestions. I have tried several things but did not succeed.
1. Flashed a clockworkmod recovery. That was successful. So I went ahead to use its factory reset function. The process completed without error but once rebooted, the phone remains the same as before.
2. Connected the phone to a PC, turned on USB storage, copied a ROM image zip file to a folder. Then tried to install it through Recovery. But the file I copied was nowhere to be found.
3. Put then phone into the bootloader mode, connected to PC, use fastboot to flash boot, system, recovery, userdata, radio image files. All went through with any issue. Rebooted, phone is the same.
In short, whatever I do, the phone remains the same. No changes can be made.
I also tried the one-click tool but could not proceed ahead. It required USB debugging turned on. I turned it on, the check mark was there, but it was really NOT turned on because on the PC, the message is that it is not on. On the phone, if I switch to a different application, or simply go back one step, and then go to developer option, the checkmark was not turned on.
It feels like the internal memory/storage becomes read-only. No changes can be made. I am not sure if the hardware is bad, or some permission issue.
Any ideas that I should try next?
From what I read and understand, I think I had a bad nand problem. Guess time to let the phone go RIP.
My infinity. I was foolishly in a hurry to make sure I was going to be able to receive the JB update and downloaded the build.prop that was posted last week in the ota thread. I'm so retarded that I forgot that build.prop was for .26 and not 30. So I copied it into system/ and rebooted.
Now all it does is sit at the 1st asus screen and nothing else.
I'm rooted and not unlocked. Iv'e tried factory resetting, hard reset, and nothing works. So it looks like I got an expensive paper weight now.
Any recommendations? If so it would be really awesome.
e?
adb push the correct file? might have to root again first.
i know its tempting but wiping data when you can't boot is never a good idea.

Sucks don't it! I hope we can recover it.
Im new to the asus' is there any way we can adb into these things via stock recovery mode? any way to get that build.prob fixed? I can take it back but I DONT WANNA.. lol
and what would be the correct build.prop to use? I still have my modified one on the system renamed but.......
Ok, Iv'e tried the "adb devices" from the command prompt and i can't get get my computer to recognize the infinity. Iv'e downloaded android sdk and got it up and running but no dice. I don't know what else to do
If anybody has any advice or any suggestions that me and darkreaper476 can do, i will love you forever. :nohomo:
Nevermind...
I can get to where it says:
reboot system now
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
But i can't get my computer to recognize the tablet.
This might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. Have you installed the proper drivers for ADB to recognize the TF700?

would ADB have recognized it recovery mode? Even it it does the ab doesnt give you enough time to work... 10 seconds before it attempts to reboot. what good is adb if the device isnt in an adb friendly mode? IDK... I'm sick of trying to fix these stupid little issues.. I just returned it, sure I lost some photos and files (I HATE INTERNAL STORAGE) but F it... That why I bought the warranty...
thanks anyway
Something similar to me happened when I was restoring what I thought was my original backup of the build.prop file. Now I get stuck on the Asus screen. Reseting cache, delvik, user data, etc doesn't help.
Does anyone have instructions on how to setup ADB, TF700 drivers, and how to take any firmware and flash it that method, in a simple set of instructions that doesn't require a nuclear physics degree?
I would rather not have to RMA this thing and wait a month or more to get a new one ...

You don't need adb to recover your device, just follow my How-To guide from the General forum and you should be good but you need an external MicroSd card to do it.

This assumes that I'm able to get to the recovery. I was able to at one point, but now it won't. In other words, if I hold Pwr+VDown, wait till the text, and then release Pwr+Vdown, and then press VUp, it says booting recovery image, signature blah blah, shows an android guy with his chest open and a red exclamation mark. That screen shows for a few minutes, after which I get a reboot and its back to the Asus logo. Is recovery hosed now? If so, now what the hell do I do? Is it bricked for good?

Edit: in your case Restore with Stock recovery should do the trick.
Hey everyone. So everything was good for the last couple of days as I was on JellyBAM 6.6.0 evita. This morning after charging my phone I go to open it, view some websites etc. Phone reboots by itself, goes to lockscreen. I try unlocking my lockscreen everything good for about 10 seconds. Try to open facebook up, and boom phone goes black and will not turn on. I know for a fact that is 100% charged as when I woke up I checked the battery as I usually do to see if it charged or not.
I am pretty sure I am on Hboot 1.09 or less as I bought the phone close to the release date. Any thoughts because its weird how I cant turn even turn it on or have a LED light show up when it charges.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Ok somehow my phone just turned on by itself and I took the opportunity to go into TWRP. Tried restoring but to a previous backup. Became stuck in boot screen. Went back into twrp tried to wipe the system and factory reset but somehow it says failed and that its not able to mount storage or anything. All of my data is gone now for some reason and it says no OS is installed. Do I have to RUU back again?

Yeah I forgot to mention I have tried getting into bootloader using the volume down + power process along with holding the power button. Nothing is working.
This phone has well-known power management issues. Sometimes the battery stats get corrupted and the phone thinks the battery is dead when it isn't. Unfortunately, this sometimes results in a brick.
Plug into your PC and see what pops up in Device Manager. If you get QHUSB_DLOAD, you've been bricked. However, this may be fixable since you're on 1.09.

Well, wiping /system and factory reset means the OS is erased. Could be the sdcard got corrupted. You'll need to reformat it.
Good news is you're not bricked; its just a matter of getting the software in order.

I had a similar problem last night with a "missing" SDcard in TWRP. Thankfully, I found a utility that you can run through fastboot that will restore the SDcard without ruu.
HOWEVER...that utility and website link that I found it on are on my computer at home...and I'm not at home
Although, I did find the utility through a google search.
Let me know if you find it. If not - I'll find the link when I get home.

I've been trying to get into my stock recovery for some time now trying all sorts of button combos but to no avail. Previously I had the g2 and when it updated from jellybean to kitkat, the combo for entering stock recovery changed however, this new combo doesn't seem to work on the G Pro 2 either
You should be able to revive your device back to stock using the LG pc Suite however, after tampering with the system, it is often necessary to perform a factory reset after the pc suite has done it's work which will need you to enter stock recovery.
If you are completely stuck, I would suggest restoring your device using the pc suit and, all being well, your device will boot sufficiently for you to perform a reset through the phone settings menu. If you are really lucky, it may boot properly and you may not need to perform any reset however, it would still probably be a good idea to do so.

I had tried everything.. Even adb command to reboot into recovery. It just brings me to a broken Android with red triangle. I am starting to think there is no stock recovery built in that is accessible to users..
I am now at the service centre. Well the guy can detect that its rooted.. voids warranty.... But will try to see if he can help to reflash the firmware.. If not have to change hardware and will be chargeable....... Fingers crossed. He did say users are not able to access the recovery..
Guys.. Until there's custom recovery, pls dun mess with it.....
That is really bad. I am stuck at bootloop and unable to reach the recovery mode. I wonder how entire web just talks about a hardreset process that doesnt even work

Glad you were able to get your phone back. I have some positive news. I am trying out a recovery method as we speak. Using the LG Software update & USB driver tool I found the option for a update recovery. So I gave the IMEI and it prompted for a connection to the device which wasnt there as the phone is stuck in a boot loop. So I thought if it is going to restore the firmware from PC ( and not OTA) then it at some point of time will take the phone to download mode. So I just put the phone in download mode and VOILA it recognised the connection. And right now it is downloading the recovery firmware. The firmware being downloaded is around 1.5GB which is exactly what size I expected it to be. I have my fingers crossed. Just hope it goes through fine.

As I mentioned in an earliar post on this thread, you can usually get the device into a booting state using the lg pc suite. You will probably have to perform a factory reset but, hopefully, after using the tool, you can access the software factory reset in the settings menu. From past experience with other lg devices, it can often help if you run the recovery more than once in the pc suite.

Hi Bob,
Yes I think the same option is there in the LG PC Suite as well. But unless you do what I have tried to do it wont recognise a device that has not booted yet. Devices soft-bricked or bootlooping wont be recognised by the PC suite for recovery. But thanks for the tip. I'd keep that in mind and see if it'd need another factory reset after recovery. But it seems like it will be a hard reset done by the recovery happening right now

Thanks. I was able to revive my phone. No loss of apps and data. Just the root was lost. Can you tell me what issues you have witnessed after such a recovery that made you to do a factory reset? The phone looks fine at the moment but wonder if it'd end up in a boot loop again.

It went all smooth. I'd like to shout out to all LG G Pro 2 users to make a note of this method and try it whenever they soft-brick their phones.

Hi there,
I am in the same situation, I can not do the factory reset in any way was mentioned here (pc suite, lg update) in the forum, because there is no connection between the pc and the mobile.
Where you from anyway and which mobile service did you take your phone, how much was the service cost?
THX

Did you try this:
VOL DOWN + POWER
when LG logo appears release booth keys and wait 2 sec then
VOL DOWN + VOL UP
you should get factory reset screen
Okay from the top, have OPO that had paranoid 4.6 Beta 2 working just fine. Was playing with settings(dumb idea) and changed the runtime to ART like i have on multiple other phones just to try it out. Phone rebooted and upgraded all the apps like it should, but about 5 seconds after it booted, screen froze for a second and then it rebooted. Once it rebooted it was up for 5 seconds again and then rebooted again. thus started a continues reboot loop.
Using the five seconds i had i was able to race through settings and switch the runtime back to dalvik. this caused the normal reboot and fixing of apps however once it finished the boot process it began the reboot loop again and there was nothing i could do to stop it.
I booted to recovery and attempted to reflash the last update, that failed.
attempted to wipe cache and dalvik cache and that failed.
attempted factory data reset, that failed
NOW is when i made a mistake, on TWRP i checked system wipe as well as data and cache. Wiped everything.
So, phone was then entirely devoid of OS which is a slight problem. I was able to get into fastboot however and flash cm11s which i figured would fix it, false. Now when it boots the system ui crashes over and over continuously and it wont become stable. Went back to recovery but my twrp was gone and i just had cyanogenmod simple recovery. attempted to get to fastboot mode but its apparently nonexistent, i tried every combination of commands possible to get there but cant. so now im stuck with an unusable OS and a useless recovery and no way to get to fastboot mode that im at least aware of... if there are any other details that could help feel free to help, ill post pictures once i figure out a way to do that.
please, for the love of God, help me.
If you gold the power button for about 15 seconds then it should turn off. Then hold volume up and then press and hold power while still holding volume up for a few seconds and it should boot fastboot mode. Try erasing userdata from there to see if you can recover from the crashing.

I tried that a hundred times, the problem is once the screen turns off, if you keep holding vol up it never comes back on, its something i have never seen before and its exxtremely frustrating. Its like fastboot doesnt exist.
I wiped out everything on my Oneplus two months ago by mistake. Then my phone wont boot up because it had nothing in it except the TWRP. I tried EVERYTHING, to load a Rom into the phone, but it didn't work. It goes through the motion of loading a Rom into your phone and when you are about to hit the 100% level, it says FAILED. It wants you to check the debugging which you can't because your phone wont boot up. Anyways, I purchased a micro usb flash drive and loaded up the Rom into flash drive from my comp's usb. Then I connected it to my phone from TWRP via the micro usb port. After it loaded up the Rom from the flash drive, it booted up. Hope that works.

hey i hadnt thought of that, thanks ill try that as soon as i can get my hands on a micro usb flash drive, will the device find it using cyanogenmod simple recovery? twrp is gone for some reason.
Don't know if it will work without TWRP. I only see "Apply Update" then "Apply from ADB" and "Choose from internal storage". Hopefully the phone might recognize additional storage from the micro usb flash drive. Good luck.

thanks for your help! ill update as soon as i get one
The latest twrp supports mtp and you can use adb push to push the file to sdcard. Its really worth learning.

You should let go of the power button after the device turns off. Then vol up+power when the phone is off. This is different than what I read for the device but it works for getting me in fastboot.
Try flashing it by adb?

He meant using adb sideload
Sent from my Oneplus One
have you had a look at my thread here? sure sounds like one of the issues listed. Take a peak and decide if it's something you'd like to try

Hey thats exactly how it started when i first reflashed cm11, but i managed to get through and force disable audiofx, from there though it just kept crashing system ui, i will definitely try this when i get outta class.
is there something different ill need to do based on having already disabled audiofx?

Disabling it will not fix your issue. My thread tells you what needs to happen. Generally when people decide to try new ideas without proper knowledge is when they get into trouble

Just a tip, if u can go in fastboot mode, try to disconnect usb from phone first , and then try

ya i gotcha, i was just wondering if i needed to re-enable audiofx for stuff to work, my other problem with this method is, and correct me if im wrong, but i believe i need to be in fastboot mode? which for some reason is unattainable at the moment..
