Version 1.2 - with out kernel
Updated 6/19/2011
Screenshots, downloads, and changelog in second post!
Why SyndicateROM Frozen?
All of you Epic users who have been around the XDA community for a while probably recognize the SyndicateROM name. The original DI18-based SyndicateROM was one of the fastest, most refined, and most popular ROMs of its time. SyndicateROM Frozen is based on the official EC05 release of Android 2.2.1, and is built from the ground up for speed, stability, and battery life.
What's the secret sauce? Carrier IQ, the infamous Sprint spyware package, has been completely removed! More details in the second post - you won't believe what we found! Themers and other mod developers take note, many modifications were made to the system in order to achieve this exclusive feature.
What's in SyndicateROM Frozen?
SyndicateROM Frozen is:
based on EC05
kernel rooted
deodexed
zip-aligned
PNG-optimized
hand-tweaked from the ground up
designed for EXT4
CWM 3.0.2.5 compatible
Unlike the original, SyndicateROM Frozen comes in only two editions - Standard, and Fully Loaded. Standard is designed to be a combination of the previous Superslim and Standard - a lean, mean, super-fast battery-sipping machine. The developer's choice!
SyndicateROM Standard includes LauncherPro. All Samsung and Sprint bloatware are completely gone!
SyndicateROM Fully Loaded features TouchWiz instead of LauncherPro, and adds in Social Network Sync, Facebook, BuddiesNow, Program Monitor, and the stock live wallpapers. All the rest of the bloat is still gone!
Both versions feature Wireless and Wired Tether preinstalled!
Tweaks and bugfixes in SyndicateROM Frozen and the Twilight Zone kernel include:
any and all lag completely destroyed
Network speeds at their peak - no throttle service, buffers adjusted
3G, 4G, and WiFi are stable
Video recording issues have been resolved
RNDIS no longer conflicts with ADB
1xRTT properly displays, instead of the erroneous 3G icon
The Sprint HTTPPD and RTSP proxies have been completely removed
The 'battery full' popup and sound has been removed
SMS/MMS messages and email have been removed from the call log
A restart button has been added to the shutdown menu
"AM" and "PM" have been removed from the clock
Did we mention Carrier IQ is gone?
Twilight Zone has custom undervolts using Voltage Control
Twilight Zone features optimizations from 2.6.34, and many optimizations for the Cortex A8
Animations correctly smoothed
Transition animation speed automatically set to fast on first boot, completely user-adjustable after
Hardware keyboard response improved with the Impaled Speed Demon Tweak
Loud boot sound removed
Ads in apps and websites blocked
Bluetooth voice dialing fixed

You need CWM 3.1.0.1 already installed. You need a froyo kernel if coming from gb or eclair
If you are not on an EC05 rom or SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1/1.0.2/1.1.0/1.1.1: Use Odin to flash the EC05 modem. UNCHECK EVERYTHING EXCEPT "AUTO REBOOT". Ensure you are on CWM3.1.0.1. Wipe data for best results, and flash the ROM.
If you coming from the EC05 OTA (stock): Download the ROM and copy it to your SD card first, then use the CWM3.1.0.1 one-click, wipe data, and flash the ROM.
If you are coming from another EC05 ROM with a working modem: Just flash the ROM with CWM3.1.0.1. If you get any FCs at all, wipe data and reflash.
If you are coming from SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1/1.0.2/: Flash the EC05 modem in Odin (UNCHECK EVERYTHING EXCEPT "AUTO REBOOT"), then flash the ROM.
This package will automatically backup and restore your data.

Important Notes
To ROM devs: A clean version of the affected frameworks and other files have been uploaded here. Other than Carrier IQ's removal, the Throttle Service has also been removed, along with the Sprint RTSP and HTTPPD proxies. Aside from those changes they are stock. Note all of the APKs in that package must be given the same signature, along with anything else using android.uid.shared (including TouchWiz, Sns*, and more). If the CIQ removal process causes any unforseen issues, please join us at irc.fossnet.info #acs-users, we'll be happy to help.
To themers: Your themes are still fully compatible with SyndicateROM Frozen! However, you should download the package above, and make sure that if your theme modifies any of the included files, you use the versions from this ROM to prevent FCs in your users' systems.
To theme and users: Do not use themes or mods unless they are designed for EC05 and explicitly compatible with this ROM!
Notes
To get wireless tethering to work:
Go into settings of the Wireless tether app before you start
Change the Device Type to Epic
Then, ensure that you are NOT on 4G
Start the tether
Once connected on 3G, you can turn on 4G, it will work now.
NEVER turn on 4G before you start the tether
If USB doesn't work, reboot.
All themes must become compatiable
Fully Loaded IS coming shortly

What Is Carrier IQ? Why Should We Care?
3/31/2011: Hello, Slashdotters!
11/14/2011: Hello, XDA and Android media!
12/3/2011: Hello, InformationWeek readers!
12/11/2011: Hello, lawyers!
Update: we have some definitive answers on exactly what CIQ does and does not do. With much thanks to Dan Rosenberg (@djrbliss), please see the following: http://vulnfactory.org/blog/2011/12/05/carrieriq-the-real-story/
DISCLAIMER - READ said:
Carrier IQ spokeswoman Mira Woods states, "While we look at many aspects of a device’s performance, we are counting and summarizing performance, not recording keystrokes or providing tracking tools. The metrics and tools we derive are not designed to deliver such information, nor do we have any intention of developing such tools."
Further research is necessary to confirm or deny this statement. The original post as written in February follows. Please note that "receives" is NOT equivalent to "sends off" or "logs". When this post was written, what was done after receipt was not known.

XDA author egzthunder1 has published an article on CIQ, with LOTS of information provided by developer TrevE. If you did not come here from that article, please click HERE to read it.
Put simply - and bluntly - Carrier IQ is a software package buried deep within Android by Samsung at the behest of Sprint. It has been in active use since the time of the Moment, if not before. The company that develops it, also known as Carrier IQ, bills it as "Mobile Service Intelligence". In their own words,
[T]he combination of the MSIP and IQ Insight lets you move seamlessly from broad trend data across many users, through comparative groups down to diagnostic data from individual devices. Now, not only can you identify trends, you have the power to drill down to specific instances, giving you the insight your specialists need to make a difference.

On its own, that description can vary from harmless, to worrying, depending on how you look at it. It's not until one drills deep down into the system and ferrets out every piece of the software that one truly knows what it contains. As some of you might remember, we took the first steps toward disabling the Carrier IQ software with the release of SyndicateROM and Xtreme Kernel 1.0. That, however, didn't even scratch the surface.
Carrier IQ's native libraries are plainly visible - libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so in /system/lib. During every boot, this service is launched - you can see it in Settings > Applications > Running Services as "IQAgent Service". These native libraries are called by non-native (Android application) libraries located in ext.jar (the client) and framework.jar (the service). Removal of these (rather obviously-named) libraries alone, be it the .so files or the libraries in framework or ext, will, obviously, break boot. So I had to dig deeper. To make a long story short, reference to the IQ Service and IQ Client were littered across the deepest portions of the framework, and some of the most basic functions of the Android system as we know it.
Carrier IQ as a platform is designed to collect "metrics" at any scale. What I found it to hook into is far beyond the scope of anything a carrier needs - or should want - to be collecting. Carrier IQ sits in the middle of, and "checks" the data of, SMS and MMS messages. It listens for and receives every battery change notifications. It hooks into every web page you view, and every XML file your device reads. It receives every press of the touch screen. It 'sees' what you type on the physical keyboard. It reads every number you press in the dialer. It can track which applications you use, what 'type' they are, how often, and for how long. It hooks into data sent and received.
I and my fellow users ask Samsung and Sprint - why do you want this information? Why do you need it? Why is the capability in place?
The only saving grace - if there is one - to this nasty, ten-legged mutant spider is that its logs are off by default. During the investigation process, I was able to enter its UI. Below are two screenshots of it.
That being said, the question still must be asked - why is the service even running? Why does Sprint and Samsung feel the need to leave a dormant monster in every one of its most loyal customers' phones?
Here's the most important part (tl;dr): the Carrier IQ service is a drain on battery life and performance. In testing, I and others noticed a significant rise in Smartbench scores and overall system 'snappiness' after Carrier IQ's removal. In addition, with it removed, a prominent tester saw 30 hours of battery life, with heavy use, on the stock battery.
Thanks for the long read!

Holy crap. This is SO fast! But, being fast isn't the only thing that I need... extensive battery testing tomorrow!
Ok, so, the battery life of 30 hours that the team leader experienced is a littleeee high. I'm getting 15 hours or so with only like 6 hours of heavy usage with like 20% remaining. Then again, I haven't calibrated my battery which I did this morning so the percentages could have been off.
All in all, this ROM is blazing fast and a noticeable difference from SyndicateROM Shuriken (DI18 Eclair ROM). The first Quadrant score I got was over 2000 which impressed the crap out of me. Now, I never actually used stock EB13, so I really have nothing to compare this to except for ViperROM while I was on DK28. This ROM just seems faster and has a MUCH better battery life. Definitely recommend this 100%.
Oh, also, I've noticed that the hardware keyboard seems to not skip any keys. This is with only Swype activated... I tried to use the Gingerbread Keyboard too, but it seemed to result in a LOT of skipped keys on the hardware keyboard so keep this in mind.
The rotation delay fix on these forums seem to work.
I haven't tried GPS as there really wasn't a place with reliable coverage to test it.
So, in conclusion, this ROM is amazing. I stand behind ACS 100% on their work and I thank them for releasing such great quality work!
so excited!

Version 1.1.1 - with Twilight Zone
Updated 5/22/2011
What's in SyndicateROM Frozen?SyndicateROM Frozen is:
based on EC05
kernel rooted
deodexed

If you are not on an EC05 rom or SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1/1.0.2/1.1.0: Use Odin to flash the EC05 modem. UNCHECK EVERYTHING EXCEPT "AUTO REBOOT". Ensure you are on CWM3. Wipe data for best results, and flash the ROM.
If you coming from the EC05 OTA (stock): Download the ROM and copy it to your SD card first, then use the CWM3 one-click, wipe data, and flash the ROM.
If you are coming from another EC05 ROM with a working modem: Just flash the ROM. If you get any FCs at all, wipe data and reflash.
If you are coming from SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.1/1.0.2: Flash the EC05 modem in Odin (UNCHECK EVERYTHING EXCEPT "AUTO REBOOT"), then flash the ROM.

Read on to find out exactly what Carrier IQ is, and why it's so insidious.
(continued in post below)
What Is Carrier IQ? Why Should We Care?
3/31/2011: Hello, Slashdotters!

As some of you might remember, ACS took the first steps toward disabling the Carrier IQ software with the release of SyndicateROM and Xtreme Kernel 1.0.
So I - k0nane - had to dig deeper.
ACS noticed a significant rise in Smartbench scores and overall system 'snappiness' after Carrier IQ's removal. In addition, with it removed, ACS team lead rjmjr69 saw 30 hours of battery life, with heavy use, on the stock battery.
Thanks for the long read!

Donations
SyndicateROM Frozen and any other ACS productions are not, and will never be donationware. However, we have put many hours into the development of SyndicateROM Frozen, and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. Your generosity - if you feel like showing it - is deeply appreciated! Since MysteryEmotions has done the most for this rom now in the wake of k0's departure, his link is bellow.
Notes
To get wireless tethering to work:
Code:
Go into settings of the Wireless tether app before you start
Change the Device Type to Epic
Then, ensure that you are NOT on 4G
Start the tether
Once connected on 3G, you can turn on 4G, it will work now.
NEVER turn on 4G before you start the tether
Use the conservative governor with a min CPU of 200 with no screen off profiles to stop the phone not waking.
If USB doesn't work, reboot.
All themes that worked on 1.1.0 WILL work on 1.1.1.
Fully Loaded IS coming with 1.2.

Just curious as I am a bit confused what is going on now that it is not part of ACS.

wow sounds good as a fast and light alternative to the gingerbread-roms! although i am happy with ho!no! at the moment, i think this one is a good alternative for everyone who wants a stable and light rom.
Hii,
Though I'm using CM7 since a while, but I'm very glade to see new developers in this section.
Keep up the good work man..
Thanks
How about batery live?
Really Cooooooooooooool
Thanks a lot
I wish u the very best of luck.
i might start using this rom.
1) needs a GB theme, you said sileshns on it. NICEEEE

OMG YES.
While CM7 is amazing (I use it on my other phones) you have to be honest the Milestone is not cut out for GB. Even if you think it's blazing fast, just wait til you try a 512mb device. The Milestone on CM7 will be forever a lagfest slideshow in your eyes after that.
I'm glad that CM6 has some life breathed into it. I'd love to use CM7 on the Milestone, but CM6 is just 10x more usable due to its speed
Good work dude. I am sure many people will be happy to use this.

If it's just like any other GB ROM, you can just take 05mountsd and 07app2ext from CM7 and put them in system/etc/init.d before flashing the ROM.

thank you so much. i hope this brings a few improvements to the beloved CM6 for milestone. i tested gingerbread and was amazed of the features cm7 gave the milestone, but switched back to cm6 due to the missing performance. thank you for sharing! I hope you keep on developing cm6!

I flashed it last night and had no issues whatsoever. Just make sure you wipe your caches before and after you flash Gapps or Silesh's theme.

I just flashed 0.09 to my milestone. made nandroid, deleted dalvik and cache partition, updated to 0.09, and flushed dalvik and cache again .... then rebooted. everythink works so far.
i noticed a problem with my wifi net. its not possible to connect to the internet while i'm connected to wifi. 3g works, but theres no connection to the internet as long as i'm connected via wifi. can anyone confirm this problem?

Absolution 3.7 *AbsolutionTools is now in Settings!*
For those users that are feeling the need to try out ICS, but don't want to leave Absolution, we have an Alpha build that is available. The caveat being that users are willing to follow a few simple rules.
1. Understand that this is a Alpha release. NO BUG REPORTS! We know some things don't quite work the way we want, or we wouldn't be calling it an Alpha release.
2. Understand that AbsolutionICS is unsupported. It is a work in progress, with most things working.
3. Do NOT ask for any ETA on releases, updates, etc. If we are swamped with these types of requests/comments, we will pull it until a stable release is available to release.
All of that being said, it runs good enough for most of us on the team that have Inspires are running it as a daily driver. Enjoy!

*Absolution 3.7 Important Information*
What is what in AbsolutionTools you ask?
1. Custom OC Profiles & Undervolt Settings:
Sloth - Sleep = conservative 122/122 + Wake = ondemand 122/921
flappjaxxx - Sleep = conservative 122/122 + Wake = ondemand 122/1152
rasroy - Sleep = conservative 122/384 + Wake = ondemandX 122/1382
Nun - Sleep = conservative 230/384 + Wake = ondemand 230/1228
Lone Star - Sleep = conservative 122/122 + Wake = ondemandX 230/1305
In the CPU Tab hit your Menu button and you will see CPU Tweak.
CPU Tweak is exactly that, it will allow you to fully customize your Sleep and Wake Governors and Clock Speeds.
*Warning* Do be careful with this as using incorrect settings may have ill effects.
Do not use these setting unless you know what you are doing.
Undervolting:
Lite Undervolt = -25mV
Standard Undervolt = -50mV
Aggressive Undervolt = -75mV
2. GPS Configs are by crypted and they are all version 2.2 except for Worldwide 1.3 which may be better for some than 2.2 that is why I included it. Make sure to be patient if coming from a clean install when trying to get your first lock. It may take quite some time as it downloads assistance data. I don't think I need to say this but you should not be in a house or a building trying to get a lock as this will severely degrade signal.
3. If you are using OC/UV Beater or SetCPU or any other CPU clock/undervolting app, please uninstall it as it will conflict with the current settings you are using if you use custom OC profiles. If you are still using OC/UV Beater You can now Download This Tool and Flash it from recovery. This will completely remove OC/UV Beater and all of the dependent files. This removal tool is also in the OTA> Apps section of AbsolutionTools
4. Undervolting the 5 lowest steps is seriously not recommended on this version of Absolution. Your battery life will be as good as it is going to get. Default frequencies are lower than stock CM7 kernel out of the box. If you insist on using undervolting use the included Absolution Undervolts because so far they are the only amounts of undervolting that are tested and stable.
6. Ad Blocking Apps such as Ad-Away are no longer needed as AbsolutionTools takes care of this now and it uses the same lists as Ad-Away.
7. If you do the One Touch Google Apps Installer from tools YOU MUST Reboot after install or you will in fact get Force Closes. I included the most standard Google Apps to get most users up and running but not all of them. After using the installer Reboot, Open Market and Search Google and it will show you which ones are now installed and which ones aren't.
8. If you are having Compatibility issues with apps in the Market after changing screen resolution in Tools, Go to Homescreen> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications then Find Market and Clear Data then reboot and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work you may need to set your resolution back to stock 240dpi.
9. GPS drops after a couple of minutes on Google navigation. This has been a long time CM7 bug and is not Absolution specific. The only workaround is to pull down your status bar and toggle GPS off then on real quick and you will get a lock that will stay locked for the remainder of your trip.[/B]

A reboot should take care of the Market issue, also may want to clear data in the market. If you have any other questions , there will always be someone around to help out.

Basically, it tells apps like g+ and gtalk that you have a device with a front facing camera, then uses the camera on the back. I will be happy to update the OP shortly.

There was a file edit added that makes your phone think you have a ffc. So you can now go gtalk, g+hangout, fringe, or any other video chat service. But for people to see you, you'll need to face your rear camera at a mirror or I guess you could watch your screen on the mirror as the camera is facing you. Very neat IMHO!!

Slim Essentials 1.1.02a - Non-Wiping - BML(EXT4/RFS) / MTD(YAFFS2) Compatible:
DOWNLOAD SleeperROMv1.1.02a-EI22-Slim.zip
File size: 171.59 MB / MD5 011ad500deb9b7b02cd6fc3cc9ff59cb
NOTE On first boot, let it sit at the lock screen until you see all the media scanning notifications stop -
this is because on first boot, there will be some app installing going on.
If you're coming from a clean install, you will have to set Swype as your text input in Locale and Text Settings to start using it.
Mods / Patches / Fixes / Tools
CWM EXT4 Clean Slate Wipe Tool - NO BACKUP
If you just odin'ed from Stock EI22, or if you want to be totally sure your install will go cleanly
download the attachment in that post and flash BEFORE flashing the new ROM, will format EXT4.
It will format your partitions properly to avoid any data issues or 3x wipe.
SDCARD Corrupt files
File size: 127.57 KB / MD5 f80114920c986ea09eac7b724429fb91
If your phone is running warm and laggy after a clean install,
it's possible "android.process.media", the Media Scanner process,
is stuck on a file it's unable to read on your sdcard causing it to hang indefinitely.
Flash this package to install a script to use.
Usage: From terminal, run sdcardstuck and follow the instructions.
NOTE: This applies to and should work on any ROM, not just SleeperROM (Bash is required)
Reset Scrolling Status Bar to stock (with 4g button)
If you are experiencing issues, miss the 4G button,
flash this in CWM to restore the stock status bar

NON-WIPING, Your data is safe!
***CLEAN INSTALL I recommend, generally, a clean install.
1. Backup with Titanium Backup, then a CWM Backup.
2. In CWM, go to "Mounts and Storage" > "Format /Data", just once will do.
3. To restore your basic data with Titanium Backup, avoid Batch Restore for system apps, choose the Green items one by one for the feature you want to restore then reboot. - I usually Sign In to my google account (open market, gmail, talk) then restore [CONTACTS/CALLS], [VOICEMAIL], [SMS/MMS/APN], [BOOKMARKS], and if i'm feeling daring and lazy [SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH..] - but this last one usually causes me FC grief. After a couple of reboots, you can batch restore all of your user apps.
ABOUT LOCKSCREEN MOD (or lack thereof) TSMParts may be integrated in the near future but NOT the lockscreen mod, as it goes against the philosophy of this rom in maintaining stock appearances (exception is scrolling status bar) while featuring the latest patches and mods which enhance usability and stability. The standalone lockscreen mod flashable is NOT compatible with this ROM.
ABOUT NOCIQ SCORE In Voodoo CarrierIQ: the report shows residuals that must remain - From the man (k0nane) himself about this SleeperROM (and presumably all others using his removed CIQ) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19945805#post19945805

HAHA Thanks guys - it is indeed my first ROM release since always assimilating everyone's best hacks and developments into a private rom for myself, thought i'd give back finally - and all thanks and approval is welcome (but... first ones win) and feedback is appreciated! Hopefully my server can handle some traffic, will probably put up a mirror!
RandomKing - i've tested and appreciate all your work!
EDIT:

awesome, thanks! can't wait to give it a spin.
Why is the file size about 100 megs larger than most roms?
I didn't see the 1X/3G icon fix in the list. Does this one not have it fixed?
Great to see the Swype beta in here. Will I be able to update if a new Swype beta comes out?
Swype installer won't update the other ROMs I've tried as it thinks they have Swype provided by the carrier.

KiesAir, which i love, is 9MB on its own, the google apps account for another 20MB, then all of the audio (ringtones, notifications, alarms) 30MB...
Perhaps i should offer the sounds as a separate flashable file (i did spend a good deal of time collecting and organizing them) - personally i love to have them all there, but for the sake of file size..?
This rom, i intended to be all inclusive while appearing basic/plain, so between removeable apps and sound choices she seems bloated, but runs like a top.. like a rally tuned 20 year old volvo.
I can't seem to get it to boot up. I've wiped and install multiple times and still no go... any reason that might be? I'm coming from marcusant EI22 v3.5

Were you able to flash the rom? I'm uploading to a mirror and it's going painfully slow right now, my server isn't liking all the sudden attention, i just increased capacity so you may try to give the download another shot - file size is approx 260MB
the swype beta probably won't be able to update/replace its files at the moment since i directly replaced the GB swype with the latest beta one (so i can't test whether it will properly update), i'll address this shortly

sorry about that, seems a few people are having trouble downloading the full file only getting about 50%, uploading to a mirror now, and have added capacity to my server - try to redownload should be ~260MB
updated the OP with a new link

I was thinking that 128Mb was a little light and when I saw the question on its size I figured I got a bad download and tried again. Not done yet.
If you can put Swype into the user installable space that would probably be best as it Swype will be updating it. Hard to uninstall otherwise.
mine is 258 megs
