I must say this is more gripe venting then anything. The I got 2 sensations 1 for my wife and 1 for myself, and this has to be the most amazing hardware/software combo ive ever held in my hands...
But WTF is up with the sluggish DATA people are experiencing?
I was expecting these "bat outta hell" data speeds with all this hype about all these new 4G markets T-Mobile is pushing and the HTC Sensation 4G is suppose the benefit from the "beefed" up network. . . . B S!!!
I find myself waiting forever for web pages to upload, facebook refreshment takes ages to complete and as for some who waited months for this device to be release, I must say im not happy at all with this issue.
Now I'm not saying the phone is a bust, its something im willing to deal with until root/s-off is achieved..
I did not buy this phone for what it is as much as I did for what it will be!!
so lets hope root comes sooner then expected!!
BTW: I did try that "DATA LATENCY FIX" in the development section = NO SUCCESS
Are you using a new sim card?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I assume you are on T-Mobile USA.
While T-Mobile USA DOES technically have the largest and fastest "4G" blanket in the US market...it's still few and far between. My HD2 and G2 both say [H] most of the time, and my downlink speed is usually between 3 and 5 MBps tops...which I might say is pretty damn fast.
We are not going to be getting these crazy ass speeds until T-Mo gets more coverage out in the wild.

I was gonna ask the same thing. I also have a new sensation but using the old sim card from my hd2. I wanted to know if using a newer sim card would be beneficial?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
If you are using an ooollldddd T-Mobile SIM than yeah it might, but most of the time a newer SIM doesn't really change things.
I will say that thus far I have noticed that the data speeds on my Sensation aren't quite where they were on my G2X. Now don't get me wrong, my data speeds on my Sensation are not slow by any means but in comparison with the G2X it isn't as fast. My G2X at home pulls 7-8megs on the low end and about 11-12 on the high end, whereas the highest I've seen on my Sensation in the same place at the same time is around 9-10 megs on the high end and 3-4 megs on the low. Most often my Sensation pulls around 5 megs download, which to be honest I'm not happy with. My Nexus S pulled that, while my G2X pulls between 7-8 on average.
as noted by other posters, you aren't using an old SIM card are you?
I'm getting around 8-9 megs DL speed consistently.
New sim made a big difference for me. I kept the one that came with my second g2x when I returned it and put it in my nexus one. I was previously using the one that came with my g1 and always had stuck data issues. I lived with it all that time and finally after putting the new sim in my nexus one the radio rocked. Hardly ever had stuck data after that.
Needless to say I am now using the sensation, using the sim that came with it and radio works well. It holds 4g while traveling in areas where the nexus one would always drop from 3g to edge. I'm pretty happy so far.

I would recommend trying a new SIM, but I have a feeling it's just bad coverage.

I'd also try changing the APN settings. Whatever TMO put in their by default was all screwed up. I changed them and increased speed 2X. Now getting the same speeds as I do on the g2x and NS
I'm having a similar, but worse, issue: after the first two days of having a sensation (with sporadic data issues), it just stopped pushing/pulling data when on the mobile network... it says "4G", but nothing gets transferred. Forcing 2G doesn't help at all...
I exchanged the unit, and the same thing with my new one. While at the store, I asked them check, and they said I have one of the new SIM's. Customer support said that an update is coming "soon" (TM)...
I've tried the data latency fix from the dev section, tried copying APN settings from my N1 (which still gets excellent 3G speeds - 4-5 mbps average), also tried setting random combinations of APN settings... Nothing helps...
I hope that "soon" means like ~1 week, but in the meantime, does anyone have any other ideas to try?

On my N1 (running CM7) there are 2: simple and T-Mobile US... Simple gets better data speeds (don't know why)
"Simple" settings:
Name: Simple
APN: simple
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username : <not set>
Password: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://smpl.mss.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

MMS port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
T-Mobile US settings:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: none (actually "none", not <not set>)
Password: none
Server: *
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: <not set>
MMS port: <not set>
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
On my sensation, the values were the same as N1's T-Mobile, but without username, port, or server, and with the APN type a little different (don't know exactly -- SIM is in my N1)
Also, Sensation's APN settings for MMS seem to be split up from the others (and not set in the main one)
I tried changing the APN settings to simple but they were actually slower than the stock T-Mobile settings. I am not noticing a difference in data speed between my G2X vs. my Sensation. Sometimes the Sensation is faster and other times the G2X is faster.
Has anyone changed there APN settings and got noticeably faster speeds on the Sensation? If so. What did you change them too?

Yeah I changed them and noticed a nice boost. I put my info into the latency data fix thread. You can see if that helps at all
I must have a lemon becuase im barely getting 1.974mbps download and 758kbps upload
the first time i did it today was 700down 300 up
trying a 3rd time and getting 2.326down just laying on my couch.
trying 4th time holding in my hand getting 2.946mbps down
tried 5th time angling it away from the window getting 1.6
im taking it back to tmo tomorrow also becuase it keeps resetting on me.
I'm using the sim from my HD2 (Got on release and thats when I joined Tmo) and other than having to change from a smartphone data to android data have had no major issues. I hit 9Mb down and 3Mb up the other night but am more consistent around 5 down and 1.5 up. Could be how I am holding it though.

so i just got my infuse 4g today, switching from a captivate. anyways as soon as i moved my sim card over network would register but internet wouldnt work.
(no symbol 3g edge etc...)
in my captivate net worked no problem.
anyways do you think its a sim card problem?
i flashed infuse rom & it didnt fix the no internet issue, also packet data is enabled.
should i flash stock and take it to a store? also whats the newest stock version out on the phone?
You need a 4g enabled similar card. That's what ATT told me
.......infuse.....Infused....infusion.........
Captivate is 3g Infuse is 4g different so you have to change your data plan to a 4g one the sim will work. What's strange is once you change your plan you can still use the sim in a Captivate
CM7, Nightly. Captivate

Go to wireless and network settings and check the APNs there. Could be a case of missing APN.
Funny you brought this up. Got my Infuse Sunday, rooted, flashed life was great. I was at home, so was using wifi to save dataplan usAge. Well, today at work no internet. Just got off phone with att . Changed to 4g data plan(same price) and 4g is on! Using my original sim from 2004.

no no no.. you are all incorrect
no!!! you dont have to get a 4g plan.. the problem is the same i had as with my sgs ii.. the default apn in the phone assumes you have the 4g plan enabled and will not work without it..
add a new apn as follows and reboot and activate it and i should work fine..
also this still works with pseudo 4g ie h+ also, and works with family plan unlimted data.

I was aware of that but chose to offer the simplest of the two options.
Yes it's not difficult to change apn but it is still easyer to change the plan, and there had been some issues early on after the inspire was released with changing apn while still on the old Data plan

Straight Talk might not support the HDSPA(4G) network that the A2 is set to run. Did you flash it or how is it working on StraightTalk? We need more info.
Its your sim card. It has to have the 3g or 4g enabled on it. If you were on att they could do it at a store or talking to an operator. Since you are on straight talk i honestly don't know who could do it. I'm not familiar with straight talk do i don't know.

I didn't know you could do that now. i got the e71 when it first came out with them.
Yea, they got tired of people using work arounds and found or a way they can make loads of cash so now they sell Sim cards. They even sell micro Sim for iPhone 4 and 4s. Personally I think its genius.

I had this same problem for straight talk using the at&t sim and followed the Starter KIT to every word but the internet failed to work. Finally figured it out and shared it here.
Basically what happens is that it tells us to set the Proxy to: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Do not do this, the internet will not work while everything else will. Leave it blank. I don't know why this is for my particular smart phone but i can assure you that is the problem you are having.
Hey guys!!! Okay I have been messing around with my Skyrocket and Flashed over a dozen ROMs with different radios and I STILL cant get my data working 100%!!
I have T-Mobile. Im using a unlocked Skyrocket with my T-Mo SIM. I have used Juggernaut 5.0, ICS Smooth Ice 3.1, TPC V3, even just the stock ICS 4.0.3. All with different radios and even kernels. My data speed tests never go past 0.21 mbs down and .08 up!!!!
Can anyone please give me a hand with some help to get proper speeds. Even when I send txts, not mms, just txts, they stick for a several min then sends. Specially in Google Voice!! Id really appreciate the help!!!! Thanks!!!

Switch to att and get lte.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
ok... try calling t-mobile and telling them that you need a 4g sim card. Even in the event that 4g doesn't work it will likely support the same bands that the skyrocket radio does, therefor making you speeds faster. i had this problem on att too when i first got my skyrocket so i called att and they sent me an lte sim and changed my plan to support lte. So i am not absolutely sure, but you can try calling tmo and getting new sim and/or asking them to change you data plan to something that supports phones like the tmo sgs2.
Hope that wasn't to convoluted, and hope it helps!
no such thing as a 4g sim its the provisioning that makes it access HSPA+ speeds. Just get the settins for HSPA+ and put them in manually
I have no idea if the APN work but did you tried em? Found those from a fast google search.

Did you try going back to your ORIGINAL T-Mo STOCK GB version. Does data still suck ? If not, work from there ...........
You do not mention IF IT EVER WORKED FOR YOU
Ok guys I will try to give all the info I can in this first post and hopefully someone can help me out here.
Got a skyrocket off craigslist, unlocked it myself using the guide here. Used a t mobile sim card in it with text and calling only. Had 3 bars normally or higher in my house, turn data on and it said E like it should. I wanted to get my 4g speeds like I should so I got a straight talk att regular sim and paid for my $45 a month unlimited service. Was told I have excellent data and voice coverage in my area by ST also checked the att site and it showed the same.
Put the sim in put in all the apn settings, saved the apn restarted the phone. Phone said 4g then the icon disappeared.I have 1 signal bar and no data at all. I pulled the battery and sim left it out for about 5 minutes put the sim in first then the battery, restarted the phone. Same thing no data at all not even E and 1 signal bar. My battery life is terrible it is just draining super fast.
I am using the de odexed 4.1.2 leak by mohan with the uclk4 radio. I haven't deleted any apps at all nor have I rooted the phone I have the apn set this way exactly as it is in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27760972&postcount=19 I have also tried it the way ST told me to the way it comes on the little card.
I have no problem with changing roms or going back stock and doing stuff over, I guess I am in need of what direction to go so I can try to fix this. I really like this JB rom, if I have to go back to ICS to change radios then so be it, just looking for opinions on what to do here guys
I went back to stock 4.0.4 rom with the UCLF6 radio and I have 1-2 signal bars but now I have the 4g icon and I get data. Ran a speed test best download was 2.21Mbps worst was .32Mbps Best upload was .61Mbps worst was .07Mbps Best ping was 135 worst was 1750
I ran like 8 tests and this is how varied it is. I can call and text out fine and granted at home I use the wifi, hopefully this isn't how the speed is outside the house where I supposedly have the best coverage available.

Hello everyone,
I've just purchased a brand new Nexus 4 off a friend of mine and I was using an old phone before on pay as you go, so now I need to change networks to one that will give me good 3G/data. I will mainly be using data atleast 1GB and texting.
These are the two deals that have caught my eye and I'm interested in below.
GiffGaff: http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/yourdeal/?_cid=76747853
vs
Virgin: http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/yourdeal/?_cid=76747854
Please advise me on which network is better and I can count on, thank you!
I assume both these networks do Micro-SIM and 30 day rolling contracts as thats what I will be needing. I'm currently on o2 and will need to move my number over to the new SIM thus I'll probably need good customer service, but the service of the SIM is the most important.
Giffgaff is PAYG, but you can make it function like a 30 day timing deal by reoccurring your Goodybag.
If you're currently on O2 you know exactly what you'll get from Giffgaff, minus the phone support. PACing in is an automated process and should be painless (I brought my number in from Voda), you just bung some details in and wait really.
PS. POWAAAAHHH

My brother is on Virgin Mobile and last month he must've not realised that his minutes were finished for the month and kept on using, and managed to run up a bill of £67, no notification, nothing. The prices after allowance is finished for GiffGaff is really good.
I think I've made up my mind, GiffGaff is definetly the one for me.
I'm going to be going with the Green £10 a month GoodyBag. What do you mean Rusty that it is PAYG? Does that mean if I run out the allowance of this GoodyBag within the 3 weeks I can just topup (hmm?) and the minutes/text/data will come through?

GiffGaff get some pretty awful customer service reports. Have you considered going with Three http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/yourdeal/?_cid=76757928
PACing is done by inputting your into into a web form, pretty simple. Had no trouble bringing in my Voda number.
If you use up your Goodbag allowance before it expires, tough. Much like a contract you have to use normal credit until it's done and you can buy another.

How long does the PAC transfer usually take? Will I need to change any settings on my Nexus 4 for the GiffGaff SIM? I've read some people need to text 'SETTINGS' to 2020 or something like this, just wondering or maybe it's automatic.
I don't mind, doubt I'll use up whole of my allowance, this tariff is just for me.
It should take a day to complete, it's pretty much an industry standard thing. You'll have to enter the APN manually, the settings are all over the web, but mine are:
Name: Giffgaff
APN: giffgaff.com
Proxy: None
Port: None
Username: giffgaff
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
A few of those will be pre-filled though.

It feels strange I have to enter some of these things, it is my first Smartphone but I would've thought these things were automatically done. I ordered the SIM yesterday hopefully by tomorrow it should be with me.
Should I insert the SIM to my phone when I get it or just take the number off the GiffGaff SIM and enter it into the form with the number I want to keep?
I've been with Giff Gaff for a while now and can't complain the service in the UK has been pretty solid and priced very well. All of the customer service is through the comunity forums and website. You can't phone anyone if you have a problem.
Only issue I do have is with their roaming charges. They don't have a 'roaming goody bag' so your data won't last long if you travel abroad a lot. I have to revert to purchasing local sim cards for the countries I visit.
A lot of it boils down to the coverage in your area.
Sometime it is automatically done, in fact the APN could well have been added by now I suppose. I got my N4 on release day, theres been two updates since.
What you need to do is activate you Giffgaff SIM on their web site, then fill out the PAC form, which will involve the current Giffgaff number, the number you want to keep and the PAC that O2 give you. You can use either SIM until the transfer is complete, although the GG one will have a new number for a bit.
