[Q] Optimus 2x ROMs/Kernals on G2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

This may be a dumb question; however, is it possible to install Roms and kernals from the Optimus 2x on the G2x and vice versa? I googled and someone said you could considering that the main difference between the phones are the radios where one supports 4g (not true 4g) and the other does not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do NOT flash anything made for the O2X. Ever. Best case, it won't do anything. Worst case, your phone will brick.

What is the best darn phone? Size! Mods! Bragging Rights? I got my azz beat!

Iphone is old and boring. I have a dell streak right now per screen size but specs just seam to be out dated. My Father just whipped my azz with his Thunderbolt but come on that cant be the best out right now? I want the best of the best without sacrifice! Im tired of hearing well it depends on whats most important to you. I mean its 2011 everything is most important to me and I want it all without sacrificing anything plus having nothing but the best! I want something that will smash the Thunderbolts face in the dirt. And please do not say Atrix because I want something that isnt going to take forever to mod or be darn near impossible to.

I mean as of RIGHT NOW I think the Thunderbolt is the best (largely due to LTE), but I may also be biased. Give it a couple months
I got the inspire 4g (desire HD, ace, whatever else it's called) its rooted, flashed with cm nightly build 57 and lord modz latest kernel. 3200 average on the quadrant score and no game(app or emulator) has slowed me down yet. Can oc to almost 2ghz CPU. Im comfortable with it.
samsung galaxy s2
Thunderbolt I can get 1.9ghz easily with 4g LTE my phone is faster than my home internet getting up to 17 mb

If you want the best of the best, you should surely be looking at some dualcores like Samsung Galaxy S2 (soon), or the LG Optimus 2x (G2X or whatever..)
Depending on your area, it might we worth checking out the Motorola Bionic when it comes out

Agree with Galaxy S2, the G2X is the T-mobile name for Optimus 3d, it's not the Optimus 2x.
But the G2x (3d) has only 512mb ram, other than that it's excellent. Galaxy S2 has a decent in graphics, but amazing in normal cpu power, it should be the best 3rd generation (high powered) android phone.
Thunderbolt seams to be smoking everything atm but I am interested to see what comes out!

I was wondering if anyone knew of the latest or best phone that has the greatest ROM rooting following at the moment greater than the Galaxy Nexus?
I have a Galaxy Nexus right now and its great but I am just bored with it. I would like to upgrade. The only problem is that I use [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, Recovery, Flash + MORE [SPRINT] which is the best tool around.
I was wondering if there are tools like this or better for other newer phones that I may upgrade to or should I just stay with my Nexus for while?

Nexus s or Lg 2x??

hi guys,
i'm new to the forum. this weekend I'm gonna buy my first android phone. not sure whether to buy nexus s or lg 2x. hope u guys can tell the pros and cons of this two phone.
cheers!
Edit:
From my understanding,
Nexus s,
-great super amoled
-will get latest update
-more optimized
-certain phone have problem with capacitive touch screen
Lg 2x,
-greater cpu n gpu
-better camera
-dual core is not being fully optimized with current os version
-problem with random reboot
I am also thinking of replacing my Nexus S for LG Optimus 2X but I dont know should I do it. Big dillema...

The Nexus S has a better GPU but a worse GPU.
Also the Camera isn't necessarily better on the O2x, megapixels doesn't matter too much.
The Nexus S does not have a touchscreen problem.
And finally: Yes, the dualcores aren't being used very much (yet).
As for a real answer: None of them, Galaxy S II.
It doesn't cost much more than the O2x, but is miles better.
What touchscreen issue is the op referring to?

OP you're asking about the lg optmius 2x ... the LG-P990 that means you're are probably going to be on bands that the international galaxy S supports
i say SGS2
I'm referring the back capacitive button
Look up for reviews on battery life of LG Optimus 2x, dont know how the dual core handles battery life.
But, i have been looking up on SGS2 forums over here @ xda, and it seems most people are not happy with their purchase due to battery life issues.
PS: I bet you wouldnt want a phone that dont last long right?
EDIT: FYI, do read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088098
most ppl get a nexus because its a nexus. everyone knew when the nexus s came out that is was no revolutionary piece of hardware. but they wanted the direct updates and support from google.

Really? if i was paying $800 to buy it here in the states (that samsung USA probably wouldn't provide support for), it better not have any issues!
Hey OP
I actually had a G2x for 29 days. Actually I had 2 of them. On day 29 I sent it back for a refund and got the Nexus S. I haven't looked back.
I was plagued with random reboots and freezes. It was really annoying. Also, the G2x was unusually "tall" and heavy with large spaces between the touch buttons at the bottom. It felt like a quality device, but it didn't feel as comfortable as the Nexus S.
With the Nexus S, you are guaranteed updates for a long time into the future. With the G2x, you are stuck with Froyo out of the box, and a few custom ROMs are emerging. None of the custom ROMs are fully stable and bug-free yet. Heck, even the stock ROM isn't stable and bug-free. Furthermore, the stock ROM isn't Vanilla Froyo, which really annoyed me. LG made quite a few subtle changes to the UI that I did not appreciate, and much preferred the true stock Nexus experience.
The G2x was snappier then the Nexus S, but the overall experience was not as fulfilling to me.
Yeap agree with that.
Support from Google is onebof the main selling point!

I'm a sucker for technology. Right when the g2x was released, I had to replace it with the nexus s. I had the g2x for 2 weeks and went back to my nexus S. The g2x had too many problems and the annoying screen bleed!! I would watch videos at night and I'd always stare at it and try to rub the area just to see if i could fix it. Anyways, the nexus S is alot faster then stock g2x. I'm sure the g2x can get faster after some modding, but when I was using it only got a quadrant score of 2400 while the nexus right now gets 3300 with c7 and netarchy. The nexus s also has a better form factor as well as samoled screen. The g2x had horrible speakers. Everytime old I'd go into speaker mode, the other person would hear echoing. Also my g2x had a hard time getting a GPS lock while the Nexis s gets it in 5 seconds. I think ill pass on the g2x since it didn't exceed any of my expectations.
One thing I liked about the g2x was the way it looked and felt. I don't really like the plastic feeling of the nexus s.
for playing games, LG is better
for roms, ehhh...

The 2x is for Europe (supports different frequencies), and runs LG's custom skin on top of the OS.
The G2x is for T-Mobile USA, and they removed the skin.
Both appear plagued with similar problems, the 2x appears to be getting/have gotten? an OTA to address some issues, but I don't know where that stands.
i was also thinking about getting the g2x but im going to keep my nexus s as it might get supported more than the g2x
I have replaced my Nexus with O2X and havent regreted. Everything is so fast and snappy. Not to mention fantastic Tegra 2 games connected thru HDMI to plasma.

might trade my g2x for a mytouch 4g slide

like the titles says, im thinking of doing the trade when the phone comes out.
what are your thoughts of the MT4G slide? and should i do it?
i had the mytouch 4g and in my thoughts was one of the best phones i had.
also like to add the phone comes with netflix preloaded already, and the g2x has nothing yet.
If you love the option of having a keyboard then I say go for it. The myTouch Slide 4g will most likely continue to get updates in opposed to the G2x since LG is struggling with the software update. Its so sad that this hardware is being wasted by lack of good development on LG's part. The G2x is a great phone hardware wise, but it will easily be left behind if LG doesn't release some grade A software.

Well it's got good specs and htc makes good phones. Just depends if you want a little smaller of a screen and a thicker phone due to the physical keyboard.
And what's this about G2x not having netflix? I watch netflix all the time on my phone... Check the themes/apps section.

i dont think i would mind the smaller screen sort of reminds me when i had the g2 days. also i think the specs are up to par with the g2x and im hearing the camera might be better and also records 1080p.
the one thing i might miss is the hdmi even though i only used it like 2 times its still a good feature.
also i like to add that my g2x is flawless, no reboots, no screen bleed, no over heating etc.
Sad Netflix has you by the balls...

question on flash
I watched one of the youtube reviews of the 4G slide and it showed that the flash wasn't working when they went to a WEB site. The reviewer mentioned it, so does this mean that the 4G slide isn't supporting Adoble Flash?
the mytouch 4g slide is probably the only legit mytouch there wil be it is running on Sense 3.0 and the camera app is AMAZING! ive never been a fan but this phone def. will be good.

Oddly enough, I am also considering the "myTouch 4G Slide" as a replacement for my G2x. Granted, the G2x is a great phone (so was the HD2), and CM7 is pretty good even for nightly builds, but I seriously wonder how much effort LG and T-Mobile will put into supporting this phone as it has more than likely cost them bundle.
I left the HTC family for the Samsung Vibrant and then to the LG G2x. Those were my two big mistakes. I really liked my HTC phones and it's about time I went back "home"... especially now that HTC has officially stated that they will unlock their bootloaders.
My options are between the Sensation and the mT4G-Slide and the "real" keyboard is swaying me towards the latter even if it's a notch below the Sensation ;-)
Yea the phone is going to have flash, but I have no use for it. I'm really considering getting the phone because the MT4G was a solid phone and never had trouble with it. But seeing that the g2x has no Netflix and you need to root and flash a new rom to get it to work. I think I'm sold with the MT4G slide having stock Netflix 1.2 CPU and a keyboard.

The screen may be 3.7", but when using the keyboard you will have the entire screen for viewing. If you think about it, virtual keyboards take up half your screen.

Gonna have to disagree with you on the whole unstable roms statement. Almost any recent version of roms for this phone are stable and very usable. Even the CM7 nightlies are very stable.
G2x - July baseband/radio, Cm7 Nightlies, Faux OC/uv Kernel, Launcher Pro, Straight Beast Status! No Bugs! Smooth as my ps3 or 360 on gaming... gameloft is making some killer gamez... I love this phone... It's a sense or no sense issue if you ask me... I like both.. My last phone was the htc glacier i gave to my momma, it was a good phone... I wanted a senseless device and im glad i got this one.. not another 6-8 months down the road when the next 1.3+ Ghz batch of phones comes out i might go back to sense, but im completely content where im at right now with the g2x with the games and now netflix... dont get no better.. maybe the sgs2 but that's the most powerful phone in the world as far as buyin out the store... but the sensation.... NO!
Well seems netflix is a major selling point but every talks like we'll never officially support netflix.
Netflix are *****es anymore and they pick and choose which who gets what. Even the Asus transformer doesn't officially support it. Big deal though. All they have to do is add the device tag to the supported device list and we'd be good.
It will happen sooner then later though. I can't see netflix on a phone though aside from managing your queues which is what I do now.
Between the two phones though its between keyboard and power. My sis had a MT4G and she loves it.
But I'd wait it out for a few more weeks. See what's up with the Slide before jumping ship. Lots of people did that for the sensation and ended up regretting it. HTC may unlock bootloaders but look at the sensation. The slide may be locked down too.

What phone would you trade for? Sensation, or myTouch4g Slide

So with all the problems the G2x is currently having especially with LG, I have come to the conclusion to ditch this phone. LG has terrible support and everybody here knows this. We aren't getting ICS and it's the last straw for me. Yes we will get "cm9" but without an official version we will not be able to fully take advantage of the tegra2 processor in our phones. Some of you don't understand this...
Anyways I have two options:
Sensation:
Great development
Already confirmed ICS
or the Slide:
Not as great development
But has better hardware
*almost sure this is getting ICS as HTC has claimed they are updating their phones.
This might be a war between a hardware keyboard or not but I want it to be further than that. Which has better quality control, and which will be the better phone in the long run?
By far, the Sensation.
qHD is bomb.
Powered by a G2x
I don't like sliders.
I had a HTC Touch Pro and hated it. Onscreen keyboards work so much better for typing.
Sensation would have my Vote IF I had to pick. But I'd pick the G2x over the Sensation. It's faster. As far as qHD, you can do the same thing with the G2x by simply changing the DPI to "190".
Is the amaze just outta the question? I don't have the mytouch but I do own a g2x, sensation, and amaze.. My break down would be.. Camera: amaze hands down, then sensation, then g2x.. Screen: amaze, g2x, sensation (possibly got the crappy screen, kinda yellow and washed out). battery: g2x hands down, sensation, amaze. Performance: really tough to say.. The amaze is completely stock. Sensation and g2x are running cm7.. Dev support: sensation hands down, g2x, amaze (although xboarder is a freaking machine and cranking out roms like a madman, and more devs are starting to move over to it).. Of course this is IMO.. Mileage may vary...

Well LG stated today that they are releasing ICS on the O2x and other high end smartphones.... so that's probably a go with the G2x and ICS.
I've heard several bad things about the sensation regarding touch screen responsiveness and a total crappy looking screen... also the WiFi/Landscape issue seemed pretty bad. Just bad build quality.
I also don't understand what you mean by CM9 won't be able to take advantage of our Tegras? Almost EVERY tablet released has a Tegra2 chipset and most are getting ICS (my Asus Transformer confirmed by end of the year).... so I don't know where you are getting this weird info. ICS has support for Dual-Core chips and allows GPU accelerated UI.
If you plan on getting a Sensation and are opened to community support, then why aren't you happy with the G2x and community support? I'm running CM7 now (#180) and GPS locks quick and everything just works well.
The Sensation is a step backwards from the G2x. Slower CPU/GPU.

Neither, even if we didn't get ics on g2x it still blows most phones out the game. Ya lg and mostly nvidia suck for not supporting the phone as much as they should, but people will always find reasons to ***** and whine about phones.
Even I complain about not having enough internal storage for these 500-600 dollar devices. I friggin hate apps2sd and apps2ext, they always lead to missing apps or corruption. I dont want a partitoned phone so it can have an internal sdcard, thats what those 16-32gb external cards are for. I want an android phone that has 16gb of non partitioned internal storage just for apps and games!

How is the Skyrocket??

Hi everyone, I'm am very curious to see how everyone is liking there Skyrocket? I purchased the LG Thrill 4G about 2 weeks ago and love the 3D features and I think personally it is a solid phone, but the fact that it has Android 2.2 is really killing me, and there are some minor issues with the phone such as crappy WiFi signal, supposed 4G signal strength but really its H+ and the DL speed never goes above 3Mbps, 3D features are actually pretty amazing but only flaw I've seen is while recording 3D Videos the audio is not in sync with the video at all and the LG Thrill 4G is missing the best 3D feature that its counterpart the LG Optimus 3D has which is the 3D Game Converter, my only other leaning factor to not keep the LG Thrill 4G and get the Skyrocket is because the dev community for LG Thrill is very tiny, and I'm a flashaholic LOL....anyways if your still reading please let me know your rants and raves about the Skyrocket, don't just tell me the good either if there is any issues please let me know about them. I had a LG G2X on T-Mobile when it first came out. It's the reason I'm on AT&T. LG provides atrocious support, half their devices are still on 2.2, and they're totally clueless about s/w on high-end phones. I'd dump it while you're still in your remorse period and get the SR, ASGS2, or Vivid. Anything will be better in the long run for both s/w and dev support. Read the G2X forum if you want to see what life with an LG phone looks like.
Skyrocket is superior. Noone will argue that. It's all about what you need/like/want.

Yes I exchànged the SGII for the Skyrocket and really like the device. Not much bigger or bulk compared to the SGII. The HTC Vivid is also another great device which I am testing as well. The screen resolution on the Vivid is great. So far, both devices are great and each has its pros and cons.

I've had mine for one day and I like it a lot. A definite powerhouse phone. I came from the Captivate. I need to get BLN working via a modified kernel so I can run Blinky for notifications, and a modified mail.apk that strips Exchange pin requirements. Hope I can find the right ROM and kernel for this soon. I haven't done any ROM research just yet.
Thought this was a good place to post this comment. After transferring videos filmed with my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 S II Skyrocket to my Windows 7 desktop pc (filetype is MP4), the video and audio are out of sync / not in sync / mis-aligned. File size was a mere 30MB.
This was true of Quicktime, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc.
Anyone else having a similar experience?
I haven't had issues with out of sync videos. I've uploaded videos from the SR directly to Facebook, and they turned out great. Also uploaded them to my Windows 7 PC using "Dropbox," which worked great.
To answer the question from the original poster - I love my SR. Came from an iPhone, and won't go back. Having too much fun with the SR, love the big screen, the speed, the capacity, what's not to like? My only gripe is the battery life, but I've had the same issues with other smartphones, so it just comes with the territory.
