One question..... WHY!? Windows Mobile sucks... If you mean WP7 then no. It's completely different. Windows Mobile and WP7 aren't the same though...
There isn't a Windows Mobile 7. I'm sure he meant Windows Phone 7.
But to answer your question, a port of Windows Phone 7 isn't going to happen. No drivers, no interest etc.
Might wanna try the HTC Trophy if you want a Windows Phone experience.
If you want the look and feel of WP7 then try launcher 7 and the other apps from that developer. He is doing some great work

I just came from t-mobile and the HD7 and I chose 4g lte over wp7. If verizon had a lte wp7 phone, I would be all over it.
Android beats wp7 in versatility, but wp7 wins in stability and smoothness. The UI being consistent throughout the phone is nice to have.
I have an HTC Leo HD2 that runs CoreDroid HD (GB) and WP7 and I can tell you WP7 is butt. I would love to be more eloquent but that is basically how I feel. But that isn't addressing the question at hand. I would tell you from a hardware stand point our phones can definitely run WP7. As we all know the first thing you need is a developer in your corner that is willing to get through the muck of having RIL issues on our 4G devices. All of the 4G phones on verizon as of yet are Android phones so I think that could be an issue. I am no developer and dont pretend to be, but merely from a "is it possible?" standpoint I believe the answer is yes. If my HTC Leo can dual-boot I am sure our T-bolt can as well. If HTC decides to release a 4G WP7 phone you are probably in a much better position.

Just love when someone basically says something sux, but then doesn't give any explanation.
Sure its possible. They got android on the hd7 in china, I'm guessing the hardware besides the 4g radio is pretty similar.

As for the OP, he should probably ask in the GENERAL android forums. You guys are aware there's a huge world of forums out there on XDA, not just the Thunderbolt and your questions will probably get better answers there than here if they're not entirely thunderbolt specific. I say that because it matters less if it runs on the TB and matters more if someone has gotten it to work on a HTC android phone to begin with.
However, they're all ARM based CPUs and lower level functions on the phone probably shares some traits with the windows htc phones so id say it could be done. However, I don't have any motivation to buy or look at a windows mobile 7 phone to find out since they're about as developmental friendly as iphones (which is next to nil).

They're not that different. Sure it has a different UI and they locked it way down from what it used to be on windows mobile, but they both share the same kernel family (windows ce descendants). Like windows 7 on the pc, it's called windows phone 7 because it's version 7 of the windows ce kernel

To be honest, I am a microsoft hater. They should merge with rim and the resulting company would probably be the most ridiculous entity ever.
Having said all that, I tried wp7 & was surprised at how nice it was. Probably would be great for non techies and women and children. Very smooth, intuitive and hassle free. not for me but I don't think its as bad as say blackberry is which truly is the bottom of the pile now by a massive margin.
Windows phone is not open source so it will probably be very hard to port to our devices. Plus people want sexier not simpler things so I doubt any dev will care.

I have been eying the mytouch4G and the HD7 for a while now and what I really like about the HD7 is that it has Windows Phone 7 (which seems nice and it seems to have nice gaming support)...so I also noticed the MT4G has better specs, so I was wondering if I get the MT4G, I would like to put WP7 on it if possible...anyone think its possible or anyone workin on somethin like that already?...or is it a stupid idea? haha...let me know
-thanks!
Windows? Oh man, no way! I came from an HD2 and the HD7 looks so ugly. IMO
But the developers here just might do it.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
Windows mobile is closed sourced like Sense UI, they can't port it due to lack of drivers that would be needed to make the phone work. But that doesn't mean you can't put android on WP7 phones, you can put android on Iphone too.
Yeah, but he's saying he likes the mT4G specs.
Looking at the HD7 i think it's pretty sweet looking - more true to HTC's "usual"design vs the (previously lame & teeny) myTouch models, and similar to the HD2. I'm just glad the Glacier feels so solid or I'd be looking at the HD2 or keeping the Vibrant.
This isn't a WP7 discussion, but unless MS releases regular & beefy updates you're going to be stuck with the likes of orig Android or iOS 1.0 - it appears to be lacking quite a bit, but if MS keeps on it then it may have a chance. If you're that interested in WP7 then consider the HD7 and put Android on it to boot.

I think you are referring to Windows Mobile....the HD7 does not have windows mobile like the HD2.. the HD7 has Windows Phone 7 (MS' new mobile operating system)...It looks pretty nice and smooth and is built upon specific specs which helps control quality and efficiency...also the gaming support its proclaiming is nice also as the MT4G has great specs (except the 'LCD' screen haha), but it does not have the gaming support for that level of hardware (at least not yet)...
S o my concern here would not so much be to put Android on the HD7 (which should be pretty easy considering the HD7 has basically the same hardware as the HD2), but my concern would be more of whether I could (or would be able to) put WP7 on the higher specc'd phone (the MT4G in this case)...but hearing that they use proprietary drivers makes me think it might not be as easy to put WP7 on the MT4G....
No!!!

In my case i'm torn because I am a dev. I love android OS and dev on it as a hobby but I am a .net / windows developer as a trade and its really much easier to dev in .net (Visual studio is 10x better than eclipse) than c++ or Java IMO so I too would like to have the ability to stay on my sweet android os, but boot over to dev when i need to. yes yes, i know i can do emus, but its not a substitute for running on actual hardware.
Considering that the myTouch hasn't even been rooted yet I would say putting any other operating system on it would be a helluva feat!
This turned into a spiffle... I am almost afraid to jump in, but.... I got to. I think the ability to put WP7 on the MT4G would be friggin sweet. Now, now... I know some of you think "Why would someone want to do that"? Because we do, ok?
Freedom of choice baby! It's a beautiful thing!

If you want Windows Mobile with a 4.3" screen get the HTC HD2 or the HD7.
Why not?
As far as i know none of those phones support AT&T 3G or even less 4G. Would be pretty awesome.
I have an HD2 that can run 6.5, 7, or Android it is a Telstra version so it gets ATT 3g in many areas just Google ATT 3g 850 map and see if you're in their area. If you're interested I'm selling it.

i'm rather curious about the possibilities as well coz the phone is sweet on it's own (despite the fact it has to run Android out of the box) and the 3G/4G incentive would be a fantastic Windows-based alternative for this configuration/design... just sayin' ('',)
While I can respect the desire to try something completely silly like this just to see if it can be done, you should expect that you may, and very probably will, brick your phone. Unlike Android, the code for Windows is not just out there. Putting Windows on a device it isn't certified for will likely fail because you won't have a proper set of drivers for the device. But I have tried silly things like this in the past with Linux putting it on devices it wasn't intended for with some success and the fun is sometimes all that matters.
I can't think of a single compelling reason I would want windows mobile on any phone I ever get unless they suddenly come up with a good blend of business and enthusiast features with WM7 doesn't seem to offer, but to each their own.
If you're interested, this might be fun. Not a rom, and not the same. But interesting.
Hmph. It's called Launcher7. I'd link you to it, but the forums don't want me to. It's in the Market.
I am interested... how much is your telstra phone?

I installed Launcher 7 on my Inspire. It's surprisingly pretty decent. It's free, so there's no risk involved.
if the iPhone can run iOS and android with a loader on boot, why would it be so hard to make it for an inspire? way more open then ios development.
I want this too as did a bunch of nexus one users, there's already a thread about it over there. But the answer is no, it isn't gonna happen as there are no drivers, windows phone is closed and can't get ported.
Due to my touch screen slowly losing it's touch accuracy on my cracked screen I'm being forced to replace my Touch Pro 2 Verizon. I decided to go with the Fascinate which will be my second no WM phone and first since 2005 I believe. My contract is up in May as well. I decided against paying 80 or 90 to get a Omnia II or Imagio. I don't think I could stomach WM without a keyboard.
I am interested in WP7 but it seems to be in a very early stage. Verizon doesn't even have a WP7 device at all. I was surprised to see some complaint messages on VZW's own message board about the lack of devices.
Is it better for someone who like to fiddle with their phones a lot to wait until updates with IE9 and multitasking, maybe even new devices come out or do you think its pretty good to go ahead now? Will a techie be able to live with it day to day?
I have a WP7 device in my house but the female is pretty tight gripped with her phone but I have liked what I've seen.
Think about it this way. You already like what you have seen. Well, it WONT get worse. I used to hate my WM 6.5 keyboard, but it was because screen was resistive. I have a Samsung Focus and I love it. Once multitasking gets out there, it can only get better and better.
No other software company has a better potential to integrate an ecosystem than MS.
I believe Verizon will launch its first WP7 device in the coming weeks.

Simple answer: The OP wants to upgrade, which means he will be tied to (or stuck with if he hates it) the phone for 2 years. Since WP7 is still lacking, there's really no rush. I'd say wait until Mango as not only will the OS be better but also new devices will be coming at that time.
Even if you love your phone (which I guess you do), you have to put that aside to give sound, useful advice and in that case I think it's better to wait.
If you can wait then hold out until Nokia launches. If you need one now then its not a bad os. Its nicer then iOS but the market place is a WP7 weakspot even as of now. If you don't need games then its pretty good.

Should you switch from X to Y checklist:
Step 1a (on contract purchase) - See what your provider has to offer.
Step 1b (unlocked purchase) - See what is out there in your budget.
Step 2 - Make a list of all the tasks you accomplish on your current phone.
Step 3 - Make a list of all the tasks you would like to accomplish (wishlist).
Step 4 - Do the research.
Step 5 - Try before you buy.
If Windows Phone can do the things you need it to do now and you like it then take the plunge. Be very wary about purchasing a phone that cannot do what you need but will in the future; you may become very frustrated.
I love WP7 too and was going to get the Trophy but I ended up with a Defy (unlocked purchase). I needed Skype and Whatsapp so I will wait until Mango and get the one phone I have always wanted if it was not for its unattractive UI: Nokia!

What is so special about the HD2, is the ability to run so many dif roms/ports. It is a devs dream phone to work with. It is also very easy to flash rom/radios onto. It is so easy even I did it several times with mine, and I am really stup-it when it comes to stuff like that.
The phone has its quirks.. but overall it is a great phone. I had mine for 3 years before I sold it ($350. thats more then I paid for it new BTW) and never had a single problem with it. I would still have it if not for the Sensation.
It really is to bad that wp7 had to ruin the run/development of win op platform. There are so many possibilities still to be developed for it. Take a look at the HD2 forums and it is amazing what they have done and continue to do with that op system.
Ok then how about HTC Wizard? I have mine now...and the battery still keep alive about 4 hours...
Mine is Qtek branded - basically HTC's commercial brand in those times...
Remember that Wizard has started with WM5 and they put even wm6.5 on it...(to not mention wm6.0, and wm6.1). I dont think they managed to run WMP7 on it...
From my oppinion Wizard was a phone that will go in history with glory.
That cute slide keyboard...
Was to bad the absence of an internally GPS but paired with a Nokia LD-3W bluetooth GPS was perfect...

It really is to bad that wp7 had to ruin the run/development of win op platform. There are so many possibilities still to be developed for it. Take a look at the HD2 forums and it is amazing what they have done and continue to do with that op system.

Wow, I didn't realise it has maintained so much value... I should sell mine, after all it is a great phone.

My HD2 finally went out on me. The touchscreen no longer works.
I have never been so sad about a phone ever.
Don't know if I'll get it fixed.
It was an amazing phone.
I flashed so many roms with it.
It started all this craziness for me.

The exact same thing happened to my HD2 a couple of weeks ago. I believe it will cost me $100 to replace the digitalizer, but not sure if it's worth replacing as my back-up phone.

+1 for the HTC Wizard. Is was my first smartphone (T-Mobile MDA). The wizard is the OG gangsta of smartphone modding.

I doubt that any device can top the hd2 in development at this point .. Winmo 6.5/6.5.3, wp7/7.5, ubuntu, android 2.1/2.2/2.3, win95, sense 2.0/2.1/3.0/3.5 and probably when ics source code released it will go on it too .. totally loved that phone

I love my hd2's so much I have 2 as my "backup" phones I probably flash at least twice a week on them. The funny thing is of the 7 phones I've been through this year alone I can happily say the HD2 is the only phone that has never let me down and is still mine and my g/f's "go to" phone whenever our dailies take a crap or am awaiting to get a replacement or between phones....
I realize they are not pulling off some 4,000+ quadrant scores but at the same time none of my other phones have stayed intact or lasted as long as my HD2's have...I'm actually glad HTC provided all the crappy quirks such as sleep of death lcd, hardware button failures, short battery life and most importanly WinMo 6.5 and crappy initial firmwares as it only accelerated development for a means to Android on the HD2 Plus not to mention all the people that unknowingly sold their "bricked" hd2 for dirt cheap(as low as $75 in my neck of the woods on CL).
I hope my answer satisfies the OP.
Sorry guys, I am closing this thread as it does not belong to the SENSATION forum...
I've looked on other threads and have seen that some phones have three diffrent topics, winmo6.5 , win7, and android development threads my question is there a way to make a win 7 Rom for the inspire?

No...and why would you want that? Lol
I've seen some win 7 themes but that's about it.

You're more than welcome to give it a shot. But the point you are missing is that windows phone is inferior to android. The Devs already know what windows phone is all about. That is why they did not waste their time to port it. Not to mention it is not open source. Porting it violates copyright infringements. If you really want to explore that OS then go buy one and you will soon return to android.

first if its a copyright infringement how do they have the right to port it at all, even if a device comes with it any modifications to their coding would fall as an infringment i think, and they have ported it for phones like the htc tilt2 witch comes stock with winmo6.1 i think but theres a thread for windows 7 over there, the question is can it be done weather or not i go back to android has no matter to the question i asked.

No it cant be done. The reason it was dont on the phons you mentioned is due to being WM phones to start with. Android running on them is a hack to run off a partition setup.
Technically I don't think they had the right to port it on the older windows mobile phones like the tilt2 or the HD2. Windows mobile and windows phone are 2 totally separate operating systems. I am no expert on this though. But it was the excitement of the moment back then and on those forums it was allowed.
Please understand that XDA operates in alot of grey areas. Microsoft knows what is done here and if asked we will pull anything as we have done before when they have asked.
