I was moving some stuff around on the internal SD card and must have deleted a folder or moved something because I can't download anything without and external card in the phone. I can't even use the camera without an SD card because there is no where for the pics to be saved. Can someone with knowledge of the stock Android file system tell me what I may have messed up?
The internal storage of the phone should all be located under "mnt" right?

First... Terminology...
You were moving stuff around on your SD card, right? The one that can be physically swapped out? Not the "internal" memory, I assume.
With root explorer or something?
The SD card that is removeable from the phone, like the what you made your goldcard out of, is under /mnt/sdcard.
The internal memory, where the OS is stored and whatnot, is different.
On my Atrix it was referred to as an internal SD card which would be the internal memory of the phone, im new to android so I assumed this is how it works. I am not referring to my external SD card, I can format that if need be. The internal file systems of my phone is messed up and I seem to be unable to save anything to it.
and yes I was using root explorer.

Wow thank you. I wasnt aware of this. So I wont be able to download pictures from the internet or use my camera unless I have an SD card in at all times?
That's completely correct.
Just invest in a decent microSD card, you'll be carrying it to your next phone anyhow.

What he ^^^^ said. You can get a decent 16 gb class 10 card for about 40 bucks or so. Should look into it. Internel memory is not the best place for your pics. If something happens and you brick then you lose everything. With external it is pretty save

Oh come on dude, Moderators shouldn't make sarcastic comments like that.
The Inspire has it's own internal storage (Elixer calculates it to 1.1GB), as well as external storage on the SD card.
If the Inspire had no internal storage, and only put stuff on the SD card, then WTF would be the point of the "move to SD" function, and the fact that it actually does work?!?!
The "internal" storage uses /data, /cache, and /system, while the "external" SD card uses /mnt/sdcard

First off it wasn't sarcastic. Second the OP was asking about storing pictures and those are only stored on the external SD. The move to SD is for apps that are stored in data/app, when moved to SD. it changes the directory to sdcard/data/app

Sorry for assuming your posting was sarcastic, I see so much of that here.
I wonder if any devs out there are working on a way to force the camera software to be able to use the internal memory instead of just the SD Card, or at least use it as a buffer while writing to the SD. That would sure cut down on the annoying shutter lag, I bet.
did you look at slickdeals or even costco for different prices? Slickdeals usually have a lot of deals on USB flash drives and SD cards. Hope that helps

I understand where your coming from as it is an all too regular sight recently. I am normally very laid back and easy going. As for the shutter lag, I only have my captivate to test in but, I have never seen a diff if it is stored on the internal or external SD. But I also don't use the stock camera.

This is my first android phone so excuse me if I'm doing something wrong but the G2X has 8gbs of memory and we can access maybe 5gbs, ok. I installed a 16gbs class 6 card and its trying fine. I downloaded a bunch of gameloft games and I can't get them to install on my 16gb chip. They keep on filling my internal memory card. Why cant I run any of them of the external card like I use to do on my Hd2? Is there a setting that I'm missing? Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most apps are installed directly to your internal memory unless that app has the option to move it to your external SD card.

Kinda sucks that you cant just move them all to the external card. The gameloft games kinda use up alot of space The phone rocks though.

I thought Gameloft games install data to external card on my Vibrant. Can someone confirm this? All the Gameloft games I have so far, only installed to internal memory.
No.
App2sd = internal sd card. The external sd is mounts to a folder. You can't install apps there.
Trays why a lot of us won't bother buying phonesbwith less than 16gb internal storage...
The sd it gets installed to in the internal one. The app memory id partitioned off of that storage, that's why you only have about 5gb there on a mint phone.
Happy to help.
P.S. The vibrant works the same way...

I have a cricket muve music ZTE Score
$30 best buy no contract. I am going to use as a digital dash in the car and for timelapse in "risky" situations where I won't care if I lose the $30 phone. not even going to activate.
anyway it came with a 4gb SD card YEAH ! but you only get 1gb 3gb is dedicated to their music service.
suggestions on reformatting this so I can use the full 4gb?
I already stuffed a 16gb in it for timelapse but would be nice to have an extra 4gb card for my wee little 720p spy cams I used on my rockets.
Trying to do the same. Some info i found.
From KydDynoMyte on slickdeals
"You don't have to wait until you remove Muve, but Sandisk did something special to these cards. You can't see the hidden 3GB partition. The only reported method I haven't been able to try yet (all the others have failed) is:
one guy reported doing this to 3 or 4 Muve cards. He put the sdcard in his Epson wireless network printer card reader and transfered over 3GB to the card and it let him do it, then he was able to reclaim the missing space. Not sure if once you get over 1GB on it if you get the whole missing 3GB back or only the space you write to. Also I hope he didn't have the older bad batch Sandisk sent out that didn't have a blue background and required the AAA SD Card fix on market for Muve to work."
From Sandisk
SANDISK SECURE FLASH MEMORY TECHNOLOGY TO POWER NEW CRICKET UNLIMITED “MUVE MUSIC” WIRELESS SERVICE
"With the help of SanDisk, we have created an innovative new way to protect digital content without the use of DRM," said Jeff Toig, vice president and general manager, voice and data products, Cricket. "This solution enables a superior overall experience for Muve Music customers. They will have immediate and easy access to all the music they love while the music industry has the confidence it needs in a secure mobile music solution."
The card itself has a specialized firmware on it that locks off that space on the card as the press release shows -- it's a special form of DRM. Could possibly be CPRM/CPPM DRM.
I've tried poking at the card low-level a few ways but it looks like we'd need to somehow re-set the card's firmware with a "normal" card's firmware... possibly. Or potentially try and see if it's a form of CPRM.
Only thing is Google isn't helping me because the only things you'll find is updating other devices' firmware... not the physical card itself.
There is a firmware update for Muve SD cards released by Sandisk on Google Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sandisk.shima.fixer
Would it be possible to use apktool to see what this app actually does? Of course you can always just get a new 4GB microsd card for like $5 so it may not be worth the hassle.
$5 is $5 I have 5 of them so thats $25 or 5 memory card's I won't have to buy for my little disposable micro spy cam's if I can get these buggers formatted.
Hidden files
Using TestDisk I was able to extract otherwise hidden files from the card, MuveMusic_v4.db3 and ComFile.dat. MuveMusic_v4.db3 seems to be encrypted, and ComFile.dat had a reference to 'mkdosfs' contained within. I don't know enough about anything to work with these files, but I figured it was a step closer.
The card is still showing up as 1GB.

anyone familiar with this drive increaser? scam? malware? where to get it ?
Stay away, it does nothing, though cleared the malwarebytes test. I don't know if I am still infected with something else.
It works. I tried it and it opened up the whole 4GB of data. Just google "muze sd format" the first hit should be a blogspot page, then the link goes to zippyshare. Sorry, won't let me post the links.

Tried this out and it doesn't work. It makes the SD card report 4GB of space but I tried transferring a 2GB file to the SD card and after it had transferred the first GB I got an error. This means its still only 1GB of actual space available.

I didn't think space would be an issue for me either. I started using and 8 gig card, then a 16, and now a 32. I don't use my phone for music or video either unless its streaming. The thing is, once you have a nandroid or 6 on it, some ROM add ons, a couple of apps (along with their storage requirements), and a few other things you will notice space filling quickly. I use my SD card for picture and video recording storge as well, but I don't take alot of pictures and video. Its nice to have the extra space incase I need to though. I am a fan of keeping whatever I can on external SD if possible instead of internal. And I also back up the important stuff onto my PC and a backup drive. I just got a PNY 32 gig class 10 at Bestbuy for $39 and the Accessories section lists Amazon deals at around $32 if you can find them. I think it is worth it. Its nice to know the extra strorage is there just in case even if you don't think you will ever need to use it. Plus, you can remove the SD card and make sure the data on it won't be erased or messed up by new flashes and stuff like that. Its also easily transferable.
Off to future shop!!

I just got this phone and I'm wondering about the same thing. There are two "internal storage" bars and they show total space of 1.12 and 1.4G respectively. The SD card remains mostly unused. It seems that the internal storage is partitioned in two? It appears all the appdata is also stored on the 2nd "internal storage". How do i consolidate the two into one, and use the SD card for all the data storage?
Many thanks.
That would be awesome if we could combine the two partitions into one and use a SD as the second. Unfortunately Samsung crippled our phones with their wacky partitions.

So I take that the partition is permenant?
This really severaly limits the usability of the phone to that of a novice/beginner, with only <2gb for apps and another <2gb for data. Is there any script/app/etc that mounts the 2nd partition to the external SD? I've searched and Link2SD shows up a few times, something I've used on P509 (optimus T) and didn't think I would have to use it again. It works, but it's annoying when it fails. Was hoping for something cleaner than that.
I bought the phone imagining that the 4GB could be used for app and the data would go on SD..
Yea you can swap mounts to use the SD card as the second partition. It's around here somewhere, do a search for swapping internal / external mount points

it seems all of these solution (including link2sd) isn't permenant and would screw up (and it did) after rom update. Link2sd is kinda pointless when it doesn't move the data to the external sd, and mounting scripts would just run into problems when ROM's updated.
There doesn't seem to be a very clean solution for this.. Would have been nicer if they just relied on extSD for storage.. why bother with the SD slot when you store things internally by default?
kinda frustrating really.
Well there's 4gb unformatted, which means 10% less afterwards, so 3.6gb but the system needs space, so there's another chunk gone and then system apps and whatnots are using space, as does cache etc. So we get about 2.5gb usable to us, then we install gapps and the other basics and have about 2gb left.
with a camera app that now allows storage to external, it gets a lot easier. Move big apps to external SD as with music and downloads. I did have some success with the script that swaps internal/external, but now I just get by with the occasional cleanout.

if you applications don't use sdcard or have the option to, page the developer to change it.

Yup, that was it. Thanks.
Just for your reference, Android 6.0 now allow you to use SD card as internal storage, and if your card is fast enough, doing so will benefit you greatly.
Caution: Require formatting your card.
Don't forget to reboot after your doing so, an known bug will prevent apps behave properly after migration.

I'm using a 64G Samsung Pro SDXC, which can do sequence R/W at the speed of 70MB/s from my testing, but the system still warned me about "slow sd card, will degrade performance".
From my daily using I don't notice a big difference from Galaxy S6, whose internal storage claimed to be very fast thanks to Samsung's new tech.
But it could be I'm not sensitive enough to notice the difference.
One interesting thing I would like to mention is when using a tf reader along with this card on my nexus player, I don't get similar warning. The nexus player did warn me if I use a very outdated 2G usb drive, so how "fast" a Android 6.0 define an external storage may even vary depending on the device itself.
