hi, i have a thunderbolt and the batterylife sucks. any suggestions for a rom and kernal for the best batterylife? thanks
IMHO there are no black and white answers to this. It depends on how you use your device - more for voice/text or more for data, where you are in relation to the towers and how often you are moving between 4G and 3G.
The one bit I will attest to through experience is that the Gingerbread Sense ROMs chewed through battery a lot more than the Froyo ROMs. (Except Cyanogen Mod 7 but there are radio issues with that. Ones I have learned to tolorate as it is my DD.)
Regardless of rom, you will get max battery with imoseyon's kernel, battsaver mode, 1ghz max + whatever min your phone can handle. Froyo roms get marginally better battery than GB roms. I have not tried cm7 but I have read more than one person suggest it gets less than Froyo or GB.

Froyo 1.66 Stock (plainjanev3 I think is the rooted version). Guaranteed best battery life among the whole bunch. with moderate use, you can go a full day.
Never had any problems with any of the BAMF ROMs
I am going to build a solar powered charger. All supplies bought from Radioshack for around $30. This way, I can carry a charger with me anywhere I go.
However, I am running gingertheory, and battery life has been pretty good. Can go all day at work and lose about 60% with heavy use.

I'm going to second this one, The gingersense roms total kill my battery, but cm7 sips it slower than any other rom in my experience. It's totally functional for me, with the exception that I can't receive vcards in MMS, and the MMS issues are well known. It's my longest running DD currently.
Which roms are the best for improving battery life, which is my main challenge and issue with this device, as I am finding pretty much everything else great?
I don't want to sound harsh but what is the point of these threads?
People use phones in different ways. I use mine only to make calls and send txt msges and my battery lasts 2-3 days without a single charge, on froyo, gb, faux rom and miui
while for others who constantly browse web with 4g or play games expect the device to last a week without a charge...
oh well
/end rant
I think any stock speed kernal will save battery if you put brightness on auto

EaglesBlood 2.3.3 , Xboarder's Stock Tweaked, and Weapon G2x all give me much better battery life than the stock 2.3.3 OTA did.
XBoarders tweaked ROM has breathed new life into my battery life. I was remarking yesterday that I got 16+ hours and was still above 60% at the end of the day.
I've been on CM7 - Nightly 99 and the battery life has been fantastic. Was at 45% left last night after 17 hours off charge.
This was moderate use, with WiFi / WiFi calling on for about 60% of the day (which obviously helps).
Everything (mostly) keeps getting better with this phone.
I prefer EaglesBlood 2.3.3 OTA ROM. It's very stable, and if you use SetCPU, you can easily get through an entire day with it. I lasted 10 hours with moderate to heavy usage, and that's really good for me.
i had the best battery life with Ultimate ROM and faux kernel.
im on CM7(101) with Fauxs Stock voltage Kernel with set cpu at 389/389 on screen off and i get 8+ hours using the phone all day on "4G" web and a lot of texting. i calibrate the battery every time i do a nightly update. once you go CM7 you wont go back to anything else ill tell you that much
Just wondering how all of you are finding battery life on CM7 (or possibly other AOSP based ROMs)
One of the main reasons I decided to ditch Sense 3.5 and use CM7 was the battery gain (as Sense is known to be a heavy resource hog)
The speed is amazing. Much faster than Sense, no doubt.
But I'll be honest. I'm not too impressed so far. Battery seems to be more or less the same for me on CM7 as on Sense ROMs. I thought many people said it was better?!
What about everyone else? Is battery life for you good or bad on CM7?
Cheers!

In the end it really depends on how you use the device. Most do see better battery, but to be honest I see the same battery life on a sense based rom that I removed most of sense from that I saw on CM based roms
Thanks for the reply mate!
Yeah, I'm talking about using the phone both In the same way I do on a daily basis.
On either ROM, they both require me to charge it everynight.
I don't see much of a difference... I was hoping for the promised great battery life on CM7!

Well I've got a HTC Desire S . Before, I was using Sense ROMs which were known to drain battery quicker.
Quite impressed so far today though. Battery seems to be lasting longer than the past dew days for some reason.

Battery life takes a few days to even out after a rom flash. Normally run a rom for about a week to get a real feel for the battery life
I found the battery life to be about the same as sense when i installed CM7 on my HTC Desire GSM. But that was a non-issue for me since I have a charger in the office and at home.
When I had an HTC Desire, I always got much better battery life from AOSP roms such as CM7.
On the other hand, others reported that they got better battery life from Sense roms.
Try it out and see.
Thanks for the additional replies! Yeah, I think my battery has improved more since i sstarted this thread, as the phone has settled down more...
I had 83% battery when I unplugged my phone at 7AM this morming.
Now its 11:35PM and I got 8% left
I've been using the phone moderately for web browsing, texts, calls, installing apps, arond 1hr aand a half music. Also managed to do 2 NANDroid backups and 1 restore! pretty impressed so far!

My battery life has been much better on ASOP roms like CM7 than sense roms. Plus you can't beat the extra storage room that ASOP roms provide.
The battery life on my Optimus 2X grew by probably about 20%, then using vadonka's kernel, it increased it a bit more. I haven't really tracked it but it can go for a few days if I turn off data, 3G and just leave it though!

Yeah I know! one of the advantahes of AOSP, I have much more ROM storage space!
On Sense, with all my apps, I had 860mb free
On CM7 with all my usual apps, plus a bunch of themes and games I have 0.95GB free! Amazing!
I also have at least 150-200mb more RAM ttoo

That's a question almost imposible to answer. It is very subjective, battery life depends on the use of the phone and the features you have activated. The brightness of the screen and so on. I have used CM7 and Absolution roms and both have great battery life. I am using CoreDroid wich is a sense rom and is also great. If you flash a rom you are recommended to use the radio that works better with that rom but it is not compulsory....just make sure that you give time (at least a week) for the Rom to settle....
Before this thread is closed.like the above member said its hard to say so many roms to use. I'm on wc wild child.Rom but its closed for now Damn good Rom and battery is good. Just depends lot of roms on here offere different kernels and radio / rils to help with battery and single just look into the threads of killersolth he has so.good uv scripts to help with battery his work is amazing. But also most roms have the right radio and ril to go with it. Just look around the threads

each person has different experiences because they use their phones in different ways. Also each person's radio consumes different amounts because of the area they live in.You are asking for everyone's opinion which is all it is without legit testing data. This could eventually turn to a e-peen contest of 'whos best' so I would suggest try out some roms and find one that works for you. there are too many variables involved for there to even be a possible 'best rom for battery'. Rule of thumb, the less your phone does, the more battery it will conserve. So keep that in mind.

We have been very fortunate with a recent influx of ported ROMs and modified experiemental Kernels and want to gather people's opinions on what the best Daily Driver ROM/kernel combo is these days.
What says you!
Well when my DS died a month or so ago I was bouncing between CM 9.1 with the experimental kernel, paranoid android, and virtuous infinity (1.3.5 beta 1). Each had its own merits... cm9 is on there right now but the screen doesn't work lol.

I am a huge fan of MikTouch and always keep a android just in case. It is probably the most stable of any Rom available.
This week I finally tried the new AOKP from SilverL. I haven't tried an AOKP before. I love all the tweaks in Rom control. It will probably be my daily driver for awhile.
Just try a few and see what you like. Good luck.

CM 9.1. Running the R3 ROM with the R8 kernel and everything's working smooth.
I second npiper. I tried a couple of the ICS roms and enjoyed them, but after a week or two I couldn't deal with the little issues any longer and went back to the rom that hasn't let me down, MikTouch. I can't remember ever having an app fc on me with it.
MAN! That's like taking a police officer into a Dunkin Donuts and asking him to pick one favorite!

Lol.
Interesting, I never knew Miktouch was so preferred around here. I've always skipped over it because it was Sense and I've never been happy with stock sense. I'll maybe give it a shot this week. It's GB not ICS, right?
I'm also going to test out CM9.1 r8 and see how I fair with it compared to my (somewhat) trusty CM9 Alpha5
Paranoid Android is a very fun idea and I love having it as an option, but I'm not sure a screen our size really calls for it

I'm testing out the new CM9.1r8, as well. Miktouch is indeed GB. With it I'm regularly getting 30+ hours of use with my 1900mAh battery. I'm anxious to see what I get with the new CM9.1r8. I tested the earlier r5 build of CM9.1 and just wasn't totally happy with it so I went back to Miktouch. I love the look of the ICS/Sense4 and Sense 3.6 ROMS, but none of them have the stability and battery life I need, so I end up back at Miktouch.
30+ hours sounds fantastic, but for reference how long would you say you manage to get on a CM9 ROM?

Depends on usage really. I can get up to 40 hours out of one of my ankers with around 4 hours screen on time. Or I could get 9 hours battery life with the same usage, it just depends on how hard core you use your phone that day.

Yeah what he said. There are users that will claim to have amazing battery life and then post screen shots of Display only accounting for like 30% of the usage.. When that's the case then you know the thing isn't on that much because it really is display that uses the most juice if you're using your phone heavy.
That said, I've had the Mugen 3600 since the day it was released and I can always get through a whole day without any worry even if i'm talking for hours, playing games whatever surfing the net and checking XDA regularly etc.. Sometimes I put the smaller batteries back in because the phone looks sharp stock but then I find myself concerned about being near a charger and I hate that feeling. I just want to plug it in while I'm sleeping and use it at will the rest of the time and with the "big boy" I totally can.

Yea I get that, I meant to pose that question to him specifically to see how his battery life scales with the two different roms since the user is pretty much invariably the biggest drain on battery.

I just loaded this CM9.1r8 ROM yesterday, so don't have any complete sense of battery life, yet. Though so far it is looking very good. I get such battery life on my phone because when I am home it does sit with the screen off most of the time. At home it connects via Bluetooth to my Panasonic cordless phones and Wi-Fi to my home network. All the voice calls I make or receive go through those cordless phones to the cellphone (my MT4GS is my only phone, I don't have a landline or other mobile). I do some texting on the phone, and of course when I go out of the apartment it isn't connected to Bluetooth. When I'm out I will use maps sometimes, apps like Friendstream and Foursquare. Oh, and when out I am almost always listening to music either stored on my SD card or streaming from Google Music or the FM radio. So, not a "hardcore" user, I guess, but I do what I need. Miktouch recently got me over 2 days of use on a single charge, but more typical is about 28-30 hours. The new CM9.1r8 is looking to behave similarly so far.

I got this build before it was posted from the dev, so I have a bit more experience on the battery. I ran it for 24 hours straight without recharging, got in 2.5 hours of web browsing, another hour of wifi calling in, and the batter was at 15% when I woke up this morning (Anker 1900 mAh). Everything I've tested has worked fine. The one gotcha on the battery may be if you boot into it initially--I noticed that on the first reboot, it wasn't going into deep sleep, but after I rebooted a second time, it was clean. It may require a full battery pull for the hardware to completely reset or something. Otherwise, things are great!
CM9.1 r7 kernel and ROM. Flashing to r8 soon. My only gripe with this ROM is the camera is a little lacking, but I'd take stock AOSP over the sense camera any day. If I were to use GB though, I'd go with one of Undead9k's "senseless" ROMs.
Well this might seem obvious to most in this community, but since I spent as long as I did not updating maybe there are others out there as well...
I have found no reason to *not* update from cm9 to cm9.1 r8.
Does anyone have any opinions of our new AOKP vs CM9.1 roms?
Actually I'm using CM9.1r8 ROM, too. Although it's still soon to throw a veredict, by the moment I'm getting great battery life, and it works perfect and smooth.
The only feature I still miss is the alt/caps led/status bar indicator ;(

I'll be testing CM10 tonight since my CM9 flash has recently started having problems connecting to the network for a short time every other week.
