Status Bar Clock Removal - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I Have figured out how to do this if you pull the systemui.apk from your phone then decompile it you can remove the line that puts the clock in the status bar.
I did this using a program called gingerscript i got from XDA it allows you to pull the file from your and decompile them with a simple menu so you do not have to use bali or smali
Once you have the Ginger script utility run the gigerscript bat file it will give you a menu with 5 options choose number 3 to process sysui this will take you to a framework utility script then you dot the following steps
1 choose menu item 1 to download current systemui.apk from phone
2 choose menu item 2 to decompile systemui.apk
Once you have done this you will find in the directory where you installed Gingerscript a folder called extracted-systemui
open this folder then you want to open the res folder then you want to look for a folder named layout open it and look for statusbar.xml and open it with a xml editor that will allow you to make change I used microsoft word with no problems
find this line <com.android.systemui.statusbar.Clock android:textAppearance="@android:style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Icon" android:textSize="16.0sp" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/clock" androidaddingRight="6.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
and delete it
then go back to gingerscript and recompile the system.apk
The chose menu item number item 4 to push it to your phone and follow the instructions it will tell you to boot to recovery it says use clockwork but I use Amon RA and it worked just fine after it pushes the file to your phone wipe the Dalvik Cache and repair permissions then reboot and if every thing goes well you will have a task bar with no clock and does no leave a blank space on the bar all the icons shift to the right so every thing looks right this method is a lot easier than when I did it on the Sprint lovers rom
See attached screen shot

Update,
Sorry about that man this did end up working for me! I must not have done it corectly when I previously tried. I tried to do this a while back when I was trying to make the dropdown bar semi-trans. Must have done it wrong then. I went back through and did it again and it worked like a charm. Thanks.

Love the font but I wish everything was red. The mix of red and green looks a bit strange.
I'm too lazy to edit the htc resources apk... .9 pngs are no fun, and with no /system write access, its a pita to test themes. I need my phone right now and seeing as how vzw is a cdma carrier, its a pain to switch phones. Believe me, the green bothers me just as much as it bothers you guys... but I'm just gonna wait it out till koush ports cm to our phones. Having the source for .9 pngs makes things a lot easier for theming, and I don't want to waste any time.

Hey thanks for everything love all the red...its understandable that certain things will remain green....one thing tho...the date isn't centered properly on the unlock screen. The tab you slide down..
bump for less green... yay for "borrowing" from others. go donate to that guy somehow. Check out first post.
Good to see some of my work getting over to the incredible. As soon as I get some time ill try and port over my themes.
This is a nice and minimalist tweak. Thank you.
2 questions:
1) If I load just the framework file, will the stock Droid fonts stay in use? (would prefer those over your modded version)
2) Any chance you'd consider doing a blue version? I think the blue mixed with the un-editable sense green would go a little better than the red.

If you're on the latest version 1.08 of Eaglesblood for 2.3.5, then just push this SystemUI.apk into /system/app , fix the permissions, and reboot, and it should do the trick.
The reason you were having trouble before is because the stock image is a .9.png...I won't go into the details of that, but a little extra work is needed to make those files work.
This file I've included should work for ya.

Ok, so you're on the latest version (1.08) of Eaglesblood for 2.3.5, correct? If you are not 100% sure, you can check in "About Phone" and check on the build.
Using the SystemUI.apk that I uploaded, what is your procedure for getting it into your phone?
Because that file has a transparent status_bar_background.9.png with correct patch handles drawn...not sure why it won't work. I will admit, that I don't have a 2.3.5 nandroid backed up to test. Anyone else?
I think I found the problem. Your rom's SystemUI/res/layout/status_bar_tracking.xml points to shade_bg.png for the background. I made that image transparent for you, and recompiled the apk. I really hope this works for you. I have to admit, I"m feeling rather dumb right now.
Yes I'm on 1.08 and my exact procedure was I downloaded the file on my phone, I went to root explorer to the xda download folder where it was located, I copied it to system/app and overwrote tthe current systemui.apk that was there, at that time, a constant endless force closes occurred so I had to pull my battery and rebooted that way, as it rebooted, the notification bar was gone, I then went to the systemui and changed permissions to where the first column is all checked and the first of the 2nd ccolumn is checked, I then pulled the battery again (cuz of the apn issue without the hard reset) and when it came back, nothing changed, so I fixed permissions via rom manager, to no avail......its frustrating!

holy crap it worked.....a million times THANKS!!! You effin rock dude! thanks for taking the time to help me! So to my understanding, u just edited the shade_bg file???? that was it??
Yeh, essentially, all I would have needed to do was edit that shade_bg.png file. But I didn't know to look there until I was forced to try to save face after giving you bad advice, lol. Now I know that some roms will point to status_bar_background.png, some will point to shade_bg, and some even simply define a hex color code...just have to decompile the SystemUI.apk, and look in res/layout/status_bar_tracking.xml to see where it's looking....and then edit that file.

so now that i know it works, i was wondering if i wanted to create one, do i make it 200 x 200 like the current shade_bg file is? i kinda want to make one with a black background with semi transparency! I tried editing the shade_bg file u made, with a program called Gimp, but it didnt work
Can you give me your exact method to doing this? I created an image from gimp, i saved it as shade_bg.png, so basically , i extracted the systemui.apk from root explorer, it put the extracted in my sd card, so i plugged in my phone in my mac, and i took that folder from my sd card, now from here, the extracted file is a zip file, so i double clicked it b/c macs can unzip files easily, so in the folder, i placed my shade_bg file into the appropriate folder.....now this is where i think i mess up, what do u do from here? I "compressed" the systemui folder to make it back into a zip, and then placed it into my sd card, i then "renamed" the file thru my phone from a .zip to a .apk, now in root explorer there is usually an icon that shows up next to the name of the files, now when i changed it, a green android icon showed up, but on the file that you had edited for me, there was a "settings" icon, u know, the standard icon for the settings app in android! i put the apk in the system/app and it didnt work, even after permissions set up! hmmm.....i promise, this will probably be my last post!
please keep in mind, i have a mac, and i do have that 7zip u mentioned in the development thread, but its called EZ7Z.....just in case i need it
If you are doing it the way you described, then you need to find a way to zip with no compression. 7 zip does that with the "store" setting...not sure about the mac version.
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.

[MOD] jholtom's CRT animation on Screen Lock

Hi, All,
I got it working for screen off only
The changes are in framework-res.apk
Attached is the apk for Prime 2.0.4 ONLY!
To Use:
remove the unsigned- part from the name and use root explorer or adb push to put it in system/framework/
and then reboot!
To do this mod to another rom:
Decompile using apktool or apkmanager (which utilizes apktool) and then...
find bools.xml in res/values of a decompiled framework-res and then find this line
Code:
<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>

Thanks. Yeah finally figured how to decomplie. Changed the field from true to false. Just trying to see what i'm doing wrong cause after compiling it back it doesn't have the crt shut down
Theres some sort of setting that can apparently cause it to work about 7/8 of the time but not that other 1/8. I'm looking around to see what it is and how it can be resolved.
And just in case did you push or install with root explorer?

I used Root Explorer, I'll try to push it to see if it's any better.
EDIT: I just compile again and it seems to be working better. Thank you.
Hi all! First off, thanks to jholtom for figuring this out. I have thrown this mod in my PCB Blue theme (beta testing only now), and confirm that it works, BUT only when on the homescreen. I.E. if you are in any other app, the CRT animation will not run. Switching back to the homescreen does allow it to work again though. Another trick (if you have the kb dock) is to hit the "LOCK" key (top-right) while in another app, and then the CRT animation appears to play on further on/off toggles, but without unlocking the screen.
Not sure what the cause/solution of that may be, but I did find this thread on RootzWiki that also shows how to edit a .smali file in 'services.jar'. I am too lazy to decompile 'services.jar' and the .smali script, but if someone else is able to, maybe we can see if the further mods will allow it to work 100% of the time. Here's that thread:
[DEV] Enabling CRT ON & OFF Animation in Roms [HOW-TO]
I hope Roach gets wind of this, and maybe his expertise will point us in the right direction for how to get it working perfectly. It is such a simple animation overall, but one that gives us such joy and pleasure
Cheers!
Was hoping you would catch wind of this scar45 and put it in your theme. And nice work to you jholtom!
I hadn't looked at the CRT off animation for HC before as I read it didn't work right but I also didn't know about the potential fix in the services.jar file.
I'll have a wee play about and see what I can come up with.

Like on the phone it only shut down in portrait. Hope I make sense.
It only work when you're on one of the home screen and not anywhere else.
Yeah, I got it working for screen on and off but only from the Home Screen. When you do if from within an app the TF flips out.

Porting ICS Transition Animation

I found this when I was surfing the net:
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/port-ics-android.html
When I saw the "Porting" in the title I thought it needs a dev, but it was easier than I thought, except some steps which I don't get.
In step 23 it says:
"Go to apk-manager folder. Go to Projects/framework-res.apk/res/anim/"
and in step 24 it says:
"Open xml file integers with any Editor."
The problem is there isn't such xml file as "integers" in that folder. So we should add those lines, mentioned in step 26, in which xml?
Any idea?

I have gotten the ICS transitions to build from source into my BOCA rom.
(2.3.7)
I do it basically the same way, just at a source code level.
and I don't have an "integers.XML" in source code it is in "config.XML"
I will post a "cyanogen" how to tomorrow
Thanks

Who knows i will try your firmware and enjoy the new transitions
Cheers mate, and thank you for your input.

I use "Apk Manager" for editing apk files so I decompiled the "framework", copied files from "anims" folder and "other" folder, which I'd downloaded before, to "anim" folder of the "framework", then I typed 11 in "Apk Manager" for compiling the "framework", after that it asked two question and as always I typed "y" (yes), then in the "keep" folder I deleted "resources.arsc" and all the .xml file in "anim" folder which I'd replaced, and finally when "Apk Manger" finished it's work I pushed the framework.
Is this the same way you use to edit the "framework"?
I just want to make sure it's the roms' problem (which you mentioned before) not the way we use to edit the file.

Yes i use also apk manager, and the same procedure as you did but no go. If you read the thread from the post i have giving you, there are several users that have the same issue on jq3 ect.

So, like you said before it's not compatible with those roms.
Let's hope the ICS developers get the rom ready asap, so we all can have it on our tabs.

Dosen't it have those animation?
That's funny because I just flashed back from ICS alpha and I didn't notice if it has those animation.

change toggle icon?

hi guys! I'm running uxuma on sgh727, vincom deodex Rom, 23 toggle mod, I'm trying to change the
toggle icons. I replaced the icons in lidroid with apktool, decompile, recompile...
what else do I have to edit to make it work?
when I changed the toggle icons I get systemUI fc and my status bar is gone.
any help, ideas, anything at all...
thank you

See attached. I haven't used lidroid, but I tried recompiling apps without hitting the Signing Tool button and they all failed.

Wish I could have been more helpful, but I'm pretty new to this whole thing, too.
Unless you're replacing .9.png, you don't have to decompile the framework - just open it with ZIP, navigate to the right drawable folder and drop the new .png-s there.
After you recompile, make sure you take out the AndroidManifest.xml and META-INF folder from the original framework ZIP and push to the new one, overwriting whatever is there.

thank you!
yes it was a bit confusing, with compiling/decompiling the framework but I got it to work.
do the png have to have the same size? the ones that I want to replace?
