Powerskin for dhd - Desire HD Accessories

engadget PowerSkin battery case pumps juice to HTC Inspire 4G, Desire HD http://engt.co/lvDmVr
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Saw this on engadget too and was seriously contemplating getting it. Tho I wonder how much bigger this will make the DHD feel

I was just going to post on it! You beat me. Seems like a win-win. I'm already using a Mugen 1500, so if I add this (which is 1500) for a combined battery life of 3000, I should never have to worry about battery life again. Here is the direct link if anyone wants to check it out. http://www.power-skin.com/battery-cases/ap1508des/htc-desire-inspire.html

Just saw the post on engadget as well, looks promising, hopefully it doesn't make the phone to thick, but would be a excellent thing for travelling if nothing else!

They just replied to my comment on their facebook page that there will be international shipping soon!

I thought about getting one, then changed my mind as soon as I looked at the pictures.

Wished they shipped to Canada. For $60 I'd give it a try!

I have a question look at the specifications Powerskin it is 5V, the problem is this is compatible with our European phone with a 3.7 V battery?

person to answer my question? thank you

It's universal, USB power is ~5V. All batteries in all DHDs say 3.7v remember that all this extra battery is doing is providing power via USB, therefore it needs to be ~5V.
Correct me if I'm wrong anybody.

Doesn't seem any thicker than with a Case Mate Pop case. I have one so I'm sure I can live with this.
Sent via 1s and 0s through time and space using my Defy.

It needs to be 5V to appear as a charger to the Desire HD. But I see several issues with this:
-The Desire HD will be in constant charge mode until the external battery discharges. Only then the internal battery will start to be used.
It's not good to use a device while charging, this reduces the battery life, so this case will reduce the internal battery life.
-Being 5V means that the case internal 3.7V must be pumped to 5V and then reduces again to 4.2 to charge the battery. Pumps and regulators usually have a 80% efficiency, so 1500 x 0.8 x 0.8 = 960. Expect a battery improvement equivalent to 960 mA, not to 1500mA.
Still it's a great accesory for some situations where you spect to have a great consumption, like hicking with GPS, 3G use while moving, etc. And when the external battery is discharged you can remove the case and have the device full charged with its original size.

You can also turn the case off so it won't charge your phone. Then it doesn't charge the phone constantly and the internal battery life won't reduce that much.

Thanks for that picture It does look a bit thicker, but if nothing else its nice to have with you for weekend trips etc when you know you cant charge.
Does it work like a charger in the way that you can turn it off untill your internal battery is almost depleted, then switch it on and charge up the internal one (if you leave the phone idle?) or does it not really charge the internal one, just keep the phone alive on the extra battery?

Anyone tried this yet or has ordered one already? I'm really interested in this, but since I'm only 16-years, I don't have the money to try something out with a chance of not being worth it .

This too thick for my tastes, i like my dhd thin.

It's a fascinating idea, but - converting inches to cm - that is about 0.8cm more, for a phone that is just about 1cm deep. In fact, the manufacturers do mention 0.8cm as a generic add-on. That's a lot of bulk...
For all-day GPS-intensive stuff I take along a 5000mah power pack that does the job nicely, which you just unplug if you need to make calls etc. Back in the bag, and connect it back up
Though I'm sure this powerskin will meet the needs of some people out there.

Mugen Power extended battery

have anyone tried the mugen extended battery?
http://www . youtube . com/watch?v=iTJRyVjBw-g
Arghh makes the phone a real brick! I would've been happy with a 2000 mAH if it would keep the thickness down!
Ridiculously big! I agree, make a 2000-2500 battery and only extend the hump on the back only over the whole battery. Should still look real slick and doesn't make the phone look like a lunchbox
Agreed, 2000-2500 would be fine as long as the thickness can be kept down to a maximum of about the iPhone 3GS.
As the poster above said, ideally just make the entirety of the back plate the thickness of the Galaxy S's hump on the lower part instead of sucking inward anmd use the extra space for the battery.
My question is, can the batteries be made into different shapes? Because if the battery can extend out slightly why can't it then flatten over like the SIM card area to use all the space available under a raised back plate?

i will not buy the 1600 mAh one, it is pointless from 1500 mAh stock
however the 3200 mAh i'll consider for sure, unfortunately the size is a little bit ridiculous. it's like having 2 phones stuck together.
at least they include the back plate
too bad it looks horrible, maybe i could put some stickers on it, or paint it with some colour spray
- Edit -
Did anyone catch what's the price for the 3200 mAh with the huge back cover?

Great find, just what i've been looking for. I've searched Mugens website but can't find the battery, suppose will have to wait a few days.
Has anybody tested the life of the battery to check whether it does actually give 2x the life of the stock battery?
Thanks.
I WANT THIS
can't wait.
holy cr*!P that is ugly! however, i could be very tempted with such a battery, i previously had a mugen 3200mAh on my Nexus One and it would easily last 48 hours under my normal usage (sometime 3 days).
but yikes that does look really really thick - i wonder if all the empty space at the top of the backplate helps the audio on the phone. i can always kid myself
i knew as soon as i ordered a zenus flip case somebody would release an extended battery pack. maybe i should just get into the habit of carrying spares, or an external USB powerpack ... but an extended battery is just so convenient.
will have to think hard about this one!
i can use all that empty space to store like 100 micro SD cards to take my entire DVD collection + my entire Audio albums collection LOL
or simply store an extra 1500mAh battery inside as a Spare!
I am now a sad panda.... $99!
http://www.mugenpoweronline.com/product_info.php?products_id=790
still debating... imagine all he things I could hide... I could store my entire sdhc collection with that....
i love how they always do their best to hide the "thickness" - it's like we're all obsessed with size zero phones when in reality a size 16 can be fine ;-)

99.00$ and you can have such ugly brick... No, thanks!
$99 is a bit much....
and the thickness doesn't help in the decision better
i got 2 authentic G7 1500mAh battery for only a quater of that price
it's easier to take some extra batteries in your pockets, than carrying a huge thick phone

yeah, this is an excellent idea!
more than enough space to fit in an AAA battery + LED light
this is definitely something that i would get. the thickness would not bother me, as i would only use this when out hiking, and would switch back to the normal battery/back at other times.
$99 is a bit much though. i think i would hang on for the price to come down a bit.
it would be better it the battery was shaped differently to have a larger surface area once it gets past the plastic surround where the battery sits in the phone. that would allow the same 3000+, but should shave a good few millimetres off the thickness.
lol i wish they went with something slimmer, something around the same thickness of the bump at the back. even if it can only accomodate 2000 to 2500 mah
Makes it look like a brick. Add a high wing spoiler with gold Mugen badging then we're taking.

In terms of weight, does it change much? I'm thinking about picking up this battery if it's a drop-in replacement.
I just purchased, thanks.
Well, it's certainly cheap so might as well give it a try. I highly doubt it's even close to 1800mAh but hopefully it'll be more than 1300mAh and won't die after 50 cycles.
i wouldnt trust it since it from china, they been known to switch out label
Can you let us know what the battery life is like, compared to your normal battery, please? I am interested, but have heard too many tales of batteries that promise more but in fact deliver less. It would be great if this gave even 25% more over the standard battery!
Here's some independent testing that shows a lot of manufacturers claims aren't always that true:

Just curious but did you have your internet on the entire time you were doing the test run? I normally turn off my internet and activate it when needed, when I do that battery life for me is about 20 something hours, with mild usage (gaming and phone calling).
any more updates?
I just bought one. I will update you guys when i get it.
I ordered one. Wth for 8 bucks
From my permarooted overclocked HTC G2 with cyanogen 7 nightly via XDA app
I bought one from mugen site and it is awesome althought it is a little bit pricey but i think it worth. I charge it over night. Unplug it at 7 am and carry with me untill 10pm. My wireless was on the whole time. I have 3 email setup as default. Running sense ui so i believe there is some process running at the back ground. I only make about 30 min to 1 hour call. At 10 pm, i still have 35% life.

Yeah, I've taken the entire thing apart (piecemealed it together) now and while the cover will fit it still bulges out because the battery itself is a tad too thick.
It was a cheap experiment though so I'm not choked. The lesson here is that Incredible/Evo batteries don't fit our phones =(

HTC EVO 3D Battery Experience

Hey all,
Went to local third party sprint store asked if they sold any batteries, was told no. Waited until I ran into the manager who I'm cool with and asked again, he said "not really, we only carry batteries for the EVO 3d" I said sweet thats the one I want may I buy one? I figured maybe they weren't for sale sale but for tech purposes I don't know I don't really care he said he'd sell me one, and I made sure to pay in cash just in case he was tryin to get his hustle on which is fine with me, I paid $25 flat which seems pretty in line with what the genuine HTC battery costs shipped etc..
ROM: Android Revolution HD
Am sitting on 2% battery left right now, and android says it's been 18hrs 0ms 37 sec on battery: bear in mind where I travel I deal with a lot of edge to hspa transfers and it says "time without a signal" 37%. Also my phone is clocked at 1.5ghz.
Voice calls: 1hr 10min 26 sec
Display time on (texts, web surfing): 2h 16m 14 sec
Wifi use: 34 mins
Accounts:
facebook (every hour)
gmail
work exchange (push) (at least 10 emails with attachments a day, I set to download attach automatically)
school exchange (push)
weather (every hour)
I freely used the crap out of my phone today took off the charger at around 8am this morning, its 2:06am at night, its still alive.
Usually when I come in the door at like 9pm I'm scurrying to find a charger, but this bad boy outperforms the original battery BIG TIME, and I hope my scenario above (in terms of real numbers and stuff) helps those who are wondering about this battery.
PROS:
MUCH MUCH more battery life
CONS:
Instantly noticed the extra bit of weight to the phone (I enjoy it though, makes it feel more solid)
Takes longer to charge.
Any questions let me know, talk to your third party sprint stores (they are the only ones that do repairs and would probably have this battery on hand) and pay in CASH lol.

Do you notice if the phone runs warmer with this battery over stock?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
In regards to the battery size:
Soon as I popped it in, there was no issue whatsoever snapping the back cover on, fits like a glove, no bulge or anything, device feels slightly more heavier however. You use the original battery door, does not come with a larger one.
In regards to the battery being warmer:
I've only seen it go to 96f watching netflix movie, right now sitting on my desk it says 80f, last night when it got a little colder, I can only assume that its VERY close to the unibody and with the metal cooled it was at 66f.
The reason why I chose to have the 1730mAh over the anker 1900 is because of the information that I've come across from this gentleman d0ugie and his website batteryboss.
You can clearly see as an example a genuine htc nexus one battery of 1400mAh tested in at 1357mAh actual capacity VERSUS a seidio nexus one 1600mAh battery testing in at 1305mAh actual capacity.
Through his testing you can CLEARLY see that genuine HTC batteries in terms of their actual ratings against their claims are nearly 90% accurate.
Why would you go buy a 1900mAh battery with crappy cells/manufacturing that ACTUALLY rates in at like 1730mAh or possibly LESS, who knows I don't have the equipment. But I don't buy off brand batteries anymore because of the information on that site.
Hope it helps you guys make the better choice. Cheers
very good, thx, i think i will buy the HTC EVO 3D Battery.

I am using Evo 3D battery now (order from Ebay), really better battery life... As for the temperature, same usage with Stock Sensation battery, i cannot notice any difference as it doesnt get too hot on my phone.
im running the same as you ARHD and evo3d battery. weight gain definitely. unfortunately for me the results differ from my experience. i dont see a notice in change. maybe because ive been on my phone for the majority of the time messing with my settings. who knows. ill report back if my battery stats begin to change.

I'm going to buy the 1900 anker battery soon. Hopefully i will see an improvement.
also bought an original HTC Evo 3D battery. Notice a slight improvement in duration, but wonder if it was worth the 25 euro's. Advantage is that I now have two batteries and can exchange them if juice runs out.

PowerSkin® for HTC Desire HD & Inspire 4G

Alright folks, don't know if this has been discussed before, and frankly I can't browse through threads atm looking for it, so here it is. It's a a power case for your Desire HD/Inspire 4G with an extended 1500mAh battery to make your life easier.
I've tested it some time ago but never got the chance to actually post anything about it because I just don't get enough time. The case is very rigid and provides the ultimate protection for your device. The only downside is the fact it is enormous.

The price varies between $40 and $47 so if you think this can help save your phone, go ahead and buy yourself one.
You can grab it on amazon,
http://www.amazon.com/PowerSkin-Pro..._1_8?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1330464202&sr=1-8
Be fast they only have like 4 or 5 left in stock.
Of course if ya think this post is useful, hit thanx. Won't kill ya.
PS: I am in no way affiliated with the company that is making this so if ya think I'm making money here, I'm not.
read the reviews on amazon... it sucks...
As panyan says... it sucks... I tested it for a week and then it went back to amazon...
The Quality is quite good, but it makes the DHD really fat... but i knew it before i purchased it and this wasnt the real problem...
This this batterie was supposed to last as long as the internal batterie does, but for 50euros (in germany) you get a silikoncase which makes your phone thicker and a really bad batterie that lasts for 7 hours... in IDLE!!
My DHD "survives" sometimes up to 2 Days (When its IDLE most the time), so a battery that used to have more capacity then the internal one lasts only 7 hours?
FAIL!!!
I loaded it more than one time to full capacity and tested it the whole week...
I cannot recommend that powerskin.
mfg cre-x
PS: sry for my bad english XD
It's an interesting idea, but it woud add a lot of weight and bulk to the phone, which you would only need let's say for the second 1/2 of the day
So would you want to carry that around with you all day?
The alternative, which I use, is to have a battery pack (mine's a 5000mAh) which I plug into the charging socket of the phone via USB-microUSB cable when I run low.
The battery pack has the same dimensions and weight as the phone, but I keep it in a bag until needed, so it doesn't affect the phone's bulk until I decide to charge.
And they are cheap too, I got mine off Amazon for €22 I think it was. NewTrent is the brand, I can recommend it. The price fluctuates quite a lot. There are also some cheaper alternatives, but I wouldn't bother with a 2000mAh pack, since it wouldn't pack much of a punch. Also the NewTrent one has 2 output sockets and can provide a 1A output, giving a fast charge.
And you can keep your favourite case too, no worries about GPS signal either
powerskins are for people who can only get to charge their phone every other day or use the phone very intensly.
In most cases it's a waste of money.
I used it 3 months and now it no works.
PS: This Case is really big!
I have it, it's awesome. The thickness isn't important to me, i have big pockets. But it was 80$ here in my country.
phone companies are on the verge of these 'inductive charging' techniques by just attaching the tech to the battery without sacrificing any of the physical size of it all, so who knows maybe at the end of the year it'll become standard in phones without the need of having accessories like these
WOW! The Phone becomes very thick with this thing. That's absolutely not cool. In which pocket shall it fit? Just rendered and no real pictures you can see nothing about the quality of these thing. I think a spare accu is much better than this Power Skin.

Depends on which battery you bought; I'm guessing it was an aftermarket one - there are lots of 'em flying around only some of them are better than the stock one.
Don't just believe the mah they state on the battery.
i'd check this thread, a lot of good stuff written on buying high mAH batteries of places like ebay.
Thank you for this post

I have a chinese battery (otb original) and, when it's some hours power the phone with that battery, is like if I'm making long press on home key, and constantly jump the window with last open applications. As if it were a charged capacitor...
Many of the batteries you can find on ebay etc are fake. The mAH is just a sticker and easily printed
A fairly good/simple way to test is to weigh the batteries. If the new battery is lighter, it almost definitely is fake.
Another way is to peel off the sticker. Usually the manufacturer will print the actual capacity on the aluminium thing under the sticker (I peeled off the sticker of a 2.99 battery that was '1500' mAH - said it was 1000 underneath).
Is this too good to be real? I think they have less capacity. Anyone bought 1800mAh batteries from ebay that really are 1.8Ah? It would be nice if the saler ship worldwide.
I am looking to buy an extra battery, the current one holds about 8-12h of (heavy?) usage, Wi-Fi always ON, 3G/2G depending on the signal, most of the time full brightness, 20min-2h games or movies, 20min browsing the web and a few calls, at most 20min and frequently looking at the clock.
I bought an anker 1800 from amazon, as far as I can tell it's genuine

I have a chinese battery (otb original) and, when it's some hours power the phone with that battery, is like if I'm making long press on home key, and constantly jump the window with last open applications. As if it were a charged capacitor...

You have no this problem with the original battery (if you have keep it)?
Using anker 1800 mAh for the past week.. cheap, works perfectly (untill now) and ads a few battery hours

I just changed roms to one of the MIUI ones and my battery life has gone through the roof. What had been a 16hour charge (at most) on Darky's4.2 is now 28-30hour easily. Definitely something to look at, even ignoring the improved feature sets.

My anker batteries are the best cellphone batteries iv ever purchased. The difference was insane.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
like i can see the 'Anker' have good feedback ;-)
may be it will be my choice !
I bought Muggen 3200 battery and have very good feedback for last 12 months
It is bigger, more heavy and shipped with special back case
but automy is perfect with it !
From what i've read mugen are very credible for extended batteries, as are momax. Momax make a 1800mAH (to my best memory) which is the same size as the normal, or the 2700mAH battery which is a little thicker, but apparently gives a very good battery life
I`m using PolarCell 1800mAh and I`m very happy with staying power.
