On, mac, we have an issue. I am a Mac and Windows user. I can't use my mac for flashing. I need windows. Why, because Heimdall is "compatible with mac". Unfortunately, everyone has had issues with Mac Heimdall above 10.6 Snow Leopard. this means that Leopard and under, work just fine.(I believe) I have Lion (10.7) which also is incompatible with Heimdall.
Dual boot with Leopard or Linux or Windows for it to work.
This guide is for windows

Thanks for all your help
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

This guide is outdated now and probably a good example of why you shouldn't hard link to a particular version. The latest version (1.3.0) works fine on all Snow Leopard and Lion versions. The READMEs includes detailed instructions for each platform.

Yes, it's normal.

finish flashing phone in rainbow screen for long time

you need the correct bootloaders. Use the heimdall 1 click collection and find the beta 2d kernel with bootloaders. Flash it through the first page of heimdall. You will be good to go.

how do u root with z4root with out being able in install any 3rd party apps
!!
please help!!!!
Do alittle more research on the whole root process. 2.2 is a little weird but instructions are out there. I would not use any app to root Basically you need to find the right zip and install that with the button recovery.
Also don't expect an immediate response. Just because no one respond in 5 minutes does not mean they won't
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I had to use a side loading app to get z4root installed on my phone and then rooted it from there.
Google "captivate side loading" and you should be able to find the app you need the name escapes me at the moment.

Sideload Wonder Machine from Android Central worked great for me.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...40770-ac-sideload-wonder-machine-windows.html
Watch this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFHLVF1aA0Q
If you can get an app to load and work on your machine to side load the apps you are ready to go. If not, i.e. Vista 64bit is an issue for DroidExplorer, you can use simple adb commands.
Like the video says... assuming you have the SDK and drivers installed. This is also assuming a computer running windows, if you are running Linux well... if you are running Linux you should be able to translate
1. Open a command prompt
2. change directories to the platform-tools directory where ever you installed the 3. SDK. i.e. C:\android-sdk\platform-tools
4. Turn usb debuging On via the phone Settings->Applications->Development and check Usb debuging
5. connect your phone to the PC with the usb cable
6. type adb devices
If you then see something like this you are ok to continue, if not you need to figure out what is wrong with either your SDK install or your driver install
List of devices attached
100049b90495 device
7. type adb install <location of your z4root.apk file> i.e. adb install c:\apks\z4root.apk
8. You will see adb copy the file and install to the phone. (If it fails start reading more in the dev section here. All the answers are there)
9. Disconnect your phone and open up z4Root on the phone and root it.
That should help. All of the steps above and A LOT more are in the dev section here, as posted above search and read and ye shall have all the fun you want.
+1 Sideload wonder machine
Follow the rooting guide on youtube from mobiletechvideo(?), he has a bunch of videos, one is how to flash cognition based rom onto your phone (but the first step is rooting, so you could skip the rest if you didn't want to flash a rom).
Hope it helps

Noob Tutorial: Ubuntu on Transformer

I've been looking around for some good tutorials, but in my opinion, almost everything was pretty difficult to understand for me.
But finally I found out how things are working (except of wifi, can You help me?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295718)
So I want to share my knowledge with You all and try to make it easy to understand.
1. The ony way in the moment to install Ubuntu on Your Transformer is over a Ubuntu or other Linux PC. (I easily installed Ubuntu virtually in VMware Workstation)
2. Get the required files on Your Linux machine:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191141
On this link, in the second post is written flash kit for linux:
klick on "here" to download the flash kit.
3. Extract the flash kit into a folder (e.g. Desktop)
4. Now download the Ubuntu root files. They are located here:
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?1072-ubuntu-on-the-transformer
You have to scroll a bit down then You see
"ubuntu-rootfs:
is available here md5sum(95eda389e64461533c51fd1e4e237a30)"
Again, click on "here" to download the rootfiles. (It'll take a while, since the file is 950mb)
4. Once this is done, extract the rootfiles into linux-flash-kit/images. (This folder is the one You have extracted in 3.
5. When You want to Dual-Boot Your device with Andoid AND Ubuntu, read on, otherwise go to point 6.
You have to download a nvflashable rom like for example "PRIME!"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251044
There You download the NVflash version and extract the image files in it, to linux-flash-kit/images, like You have done it with the ubuntu image file.
6. Now You have to choose.
If You want only linux: remember flash-purelinux.sh
If You want linux and Android Dual-Booting with Android as default OS:
flash-linux-android.sh
If You want linux and Android Dual-Booting with Linux as default OS:
flash-linux.sh
If You want to restore back to android: flash-android.sh
If You want to get to factory state: restore-default.sh
Now You have to install the APX drivers. How to do this, You can read in other threads. Basically download the NVflash file from this thread, in it, You'll find the drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
So connect Your tablet to Your PC, turn it off, and turn it on while holding down the Power Button and the Volume+ button.
What You'll see is nothing. Now Your device is in APX mode.
In Your Linux Computer, open up the console and go to the linux-flash-kit directory (In my case it is on the Desktop)
so I do:
cd Desktop\linux-flash-kit
So now You are in Your linux-flash-kit directory. From here You have to type:
sudo sh flash-linux-android.sh
OR You type this in what You have remembered in Point 6.
e.g.
sudo sh flash-purelinux.sh
or
sudo sh flash-linux.sh
This will take a while because the files are transfered to Your device.
7.
When it's done, Your device will start.
Turn it off, and start into Your Ubuntu.
When Ubuntu is Your main system, You start it up normally by pressing the power button.
When Android is Your main system and You are Dual-Booting it, hold down the power button and the Volume down key until the device says that Your have to press the Volume-up key. Do this and You will see a Linux code with two penguins on the top running down Your screen. That's just good like it is.
Finally You should see the Ubuntu Setup with the language selection.
Now You can go on, and now You can set up Your Ubuntu PC!
FYI:
When You have not got a keyboard-dock, Connect Your tablet with Your pc and enter the adb shell
When You don't know how to enter it:
open up Your console, get into the directory of the android-sdk and into the platform-tools.
Then You type:
adb shell
Now You should be in the ADB shell
Now You can type:
DISPLAY=:0 onboard
Then a virtual keyboard should appear on Your tablet and You're ready to go!
Just to create a vocal point, This requires root doesn't it?
Also, is the wifi and stuff working? What's not working?

Nice guide. There is one correction: it took me a while to find this but there is a windows-flash kit that I've used to install ubuntu on the transformer from Windows 7.

I don't think so, because everything is flashed via nvflash. This way, You can flash a rom without having it rooted, too.
But I'm not quite sure..

What's working and not You can read in the Q&A Thread, there is written everything, I just tried to explain it a littlebit easier.
The thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191141
There You can see what's working, what not, and how to connect to a WiFi network (For me it doesn't work...)
Thank for this, I am itching to try this... Is there any "easy" way to get back to stock honeycomb after i try this ?
(sorry for this stupid question, I do no know much about these things)
In my opinion it's very easy.
On the one hand, run the command
Flash-android.sh
Or
Restore-default.sh
Or your use nvflash to wipe the device and get a normal rom on it.

Hello yesterday i've try to put linux and android on transformer, all work's great but after 5 minut nvidia apx was disconnected because battery load 0%; i work on vmware machine; after I've charged my dock e tablet and run again the script but that's is the result
sudo sh '/media/Nuovo volume/linux-flash-kit/flash-linux-android.sh'
/media/Nuovo volume/linux-flash-kit/flash-linux-android.sh: 2: /ubuntu/abootimg-i386: not found
/media/Nuovo volume/linux-flash-kit/flash-linux-android.sh: 3: /nvflash: not found
rm: impossibile rimuovere "linux.img": File o directory non esistente
why?
I've already tryed to restore with nvflash all partition and download all in new virtual hdd but not work.

How exactly did you try to flash it with Heimdall? In his [KERNEL][UVKJ6][BETA3.1] Subtly Modified Stock with CWM5 + Voodoo Lagfix [1/14/2012] thread he has instructions on how to flash the kernel via Heimdall & the command prompt. I have not tried it with this kernel yet, so I'm not 100% that's what you're looking for.
thanks for the kind concern and sorry for the late reply.my problem is that i installed the drivers in heimdall as given in post and then i put my phone my phone to download mode and then when connected to pc heimdall says no device compatible download mode detected i tried reinstalling the drivers, installing kies, restarting laptop and nothing worked for me please help
I just tried this and it works fine. Win7 64bit
I'll post my steps in a minute.
======================================
Install Heimdall - C:\Test\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32
Unzip “kernel-sms-kj6-v0.2.0-bml”
Copy "zImage" from \kernel-sms-kj6-v0.2.0-bml\kernel_flasher to C:\Test\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32
Put phone in download mode
Install driver “zadig” at “C:\Test\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32\Drivers”
Option list all devices – select Samsung and install driver
Open Command prompt “Run as administrator”
cd C:\Test\heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --recovery zImage
Phone boots with new kernel
so you say you have to copy the zimage file in heimdall suite folder itself?
when i load the file into heimdall firmware package or pit file i get either "tar header contained invalid file size" or "invalid pit file" error message
and also i am sure i installed drivers for my phone in heimdall as stated in the post
but still heimdall is not detecting my phone it says "failed to detect compatible download mode device"
please help me if you know anything abt this
thanks for the reply
Attached are two jpgs, first is device with Hiemdall driver (libusb) and the second is with Samsung driver in device manager screen. To change driver just un-install the device in device manager and then let computer scan for hardware changes, this will get you back to Samsung driver. You must use Heimdall to install driver for libusb. Hope this helps... Are you trying to use the Heimdall frontend? I'm not using frontend just command mode, try it...
actually i used frontend first i found it not detecting my phone and so i used heimdall cmd no luck there too
i tried uninstalling samsung usb drivers from the system and installed it again
today morning i found a samsung composite usb device option list(which i was not getting it before)
so the changes i made is changed the compatibility to windows xp and tried it worked fine but still its not detecting help me please please
this is what it looks like after i install heimdall driver
when i go to cmd go to heimdall and flash kernel image it says device not detected
From off
I press both up volume and down volume together
then connect the usb cable to my phone ("Warning!!" screen displayed)
then press the up volume to get download mode ("Downloading" screen displayed)
I enter at the command prompt: heimdall detect
the system returns: device detected
If heimdall is connecting ok then open the command window in the same folder you have the zImage in.
then at command prompt type: heimdall flash --kernel zImage (hit enter)
it will flash the zImage and reboot.. Done.

Stop racing and smell the roses. The OP has a problem where heimdall does not see his device. Have you seen this type of error? Read the entire thread, maybe. Thanks for the help and look out for that tree!
i hope changing the os to windows xp will help i installed drivers for heimdall as instructed in the forum i followed every step suggested by some other devs but still no luck i dont know wt to do now
You can wait for them to finish CM7. You can make sure you are using the correct Heimdall Suite for your computer. You can look at Juls guide in the general section for additional help with Heimdall.
i will tell wt i did frm the begining
first i already had samsung galaxy s usb drivers installed in my windows 7 with which i used to odin roms into my phone then
and downloaded heimdall 1.3.2(binaries it says) for windows and i changed compatibility of zadig to windows xp and ran as an administrator
now i put my phone in download mode and connected to pc while on zadig
i found samsung composite usb device in the list i selected that & installed drivers (wtever was selected by default) then i disconnected my phone and restarted once and then put it to download mode again
this time i opened heimdall-frontend and in utilities i clicked detect
it said "failed to detect compatible download mode device"
i copied zimage file from bhundven's kernel to heimdall folder
now if i load heimdall firmware package and select zimage file i get an error saying "tar header contained invalid file size"
if i load flash pit file and select zimage file it says "invalid pit file"
so i tried this command in heimdall cmd
"heimdall flash --kernel zImage"
it said device not detected
i dont know wt to do please get me out of this situation and thanks for taking concern and replying me regularly

If you still have the Samsung USB drivers installed, then I suggest uninstalling them. They don't seem to get along with the Heimdall drivers.
Next, put your phone in download mode & plug it into a USB port on the computer.
Run Zadig again. Try to reinstall the drivers from there if you can.
Run the Heimdall front end. See if it recognizes your phone now. If so, you should be able to open a command prompt and run the command:
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --recovery zImage
Let us know if it works.
as i stated earlier that i am gonna use windows xp for doing this i shifted to my pc which has windows xp in it.i followed all the instructions and it worked pretty fine in that now i am able to install cm7 but i dont know wt has happened to windows 7 as it dint allow me to properly work with it
anyways thanks to all of you guys for supporting me and for spending your time for me
i defenitely owe you guys thanks a lot

ubuntu 12.04 and odin

hi i'm new at this forum and i would like to run odin to ubuntu 12.04,
i have just used wine and it open the odin window , but does it work ?
Have a look at Heimdall
I wouldn't use Odin neither ina VM nor with Wine. Imho the risk, somethings going wrong is to high (for me).
It's worth to have a look at Heimdall:http://www.xda-developers.com/android/heimdall-suite-brings-linux-and-mac-support-to-over-50-million-handsets/
I've used it once with Kubuntu 11.04 (command line) and it worked verry well.

[Q] Unbricking LG P500 with Android SDK HELP!!!

Hello! Yesterday I was putting a custom recovery on my LG p500, and as I am a noob in phones and everything else I fcked up something, and now i have the ''fastboot mode started'' screen. Now, on this http://www.androidpure.com/unbrick-lg-p500-stuck-at-fastboot-mode-due-to-bad-recovery-flash/ page, i have downloaded all the things listed there.
Now, my computer recognizes the phone, it doesn't open the ''removable disk F'' as it has always, but it says it is recognized.
WHen i downloaded Android SDK, on the page they say I should have a directory on disk C, but I DONT KNOW HOW TO INSTALL ANDROID SDK!! When i click on SDK manager it just opens a window similiar to cmd prompt, and then the window close after some seconds.. Please help me!!
Also, on that link there is the cmd program open and he says what to write to unbrick it, but I don't understand anything about it!! Please someone help me I am mad!!!
Instead of messing with the entire Android SDK, which isn't needed BTW, why not use Android Flash Recovery to install another recovery? Link for Android Flash Recovery ( AFR ) is in my signature. It's just a simple UI for the fastboot executable from the Android SDK. No command windows to deal with and nothing to type. Point and click...
As per you problem with the SDK, Android can't find your Java installation. Did you install Java 6 or 7 SDK as well?
