[Q] Audio player with adjustable speed playback? - General Questions and Answers

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts on my phone and am in desperate need of a player that can do time stretching (high speed playback without pitch distortion). I can do it on my computer and I know the IPhone/Pod can do it. It seems like there should be an app out there somewhere I'm over looking. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Knocking out a twelve hour book in six hours...priceless.

Nothing huh? Kinda what I was afraid of....
Oh well, at least it's in the Mortplayer To Do list...

Hmmmm......there was an app like that long back can't remember it's name but if I have it I will upload it......Till then gud luck with ur hunt!!!!!

You can check out Astro Player Nova. Variable playback used to be free, but after their latest release it'll run you a few quid or bucks. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of the gui but it does its job and I'm happily now getting through my podcast rotation quicker.

For podcasts there is Doggcatcher that supports an adjustable speed plugin although I believe the speed increase on that only goes as high as x1.6

Search for Audio Speed Changer. I use this app to slow down music for transcription, and it is excellent. It can slow down or speed up 200 %, and you can set start and end markers.

Wow...thank you guys. I'm going to try out your suggestions tonight. I really didn't think there was an app that would do what I needed...
Thanks to everyone who responded...you guys....and XDA rock!

Thanks for the move stylez, wasn't positive on whether this should go in APPs or Q&A. Appreciate the clarification....won't be so noobish next time.

I´ve just updated Audio Speed Changer with new features that improve its usage as a podcast player.
You can now load whole albums or folders and let the songs play in order. Don't need to load song by song anymore.
There are also many other features, performance improvements and bug fixes.
I hope you like it.
Tnx

Best podcast app for your android powered device

ok so I have only used itunes (which the podcasts are a heck of a lot smaller) I also use .podkast which seems to work great, but man the file must be around 200mb or more. example i listen to mark levin and it only takes 6-8 minuets to download a full podcast on itunes but it takes over 30 minutes on .podkast. So i ask you which is the best podcast app out there...thanks
check out Dogcatcher. It is in the Market and is pretty good.
You can stream The Great One from his audio page directly from the website. Radio Time is a very nice app, just needs a little work with the FC's while its idle.

Beyondpod for sure.
Stitcher is cool as well, lets you stream but you can't download for playing them later. So if you have a sketch connection or can't listen to them all the way through its kind of tough.

Looks like I will be downloading beyondpod to try it out lol. I like XIIAlive bit seems to have issues with buffering lol. Also just found a good app...Tunewiki.
Hey, I know this thread's pretty old, but I had to suggest PodKicker. It's pretty solid, and lets you stream or download podcasts with the Rss Feed link. And best of all, IT'S FREE!
My favorite one is PocketCast. It automatically downloads the podcasts I subscribe to, deletes them when I've listened to them, and it has a great UI which is simple to control. The UI is probably the most important feature because I use it when I am driving, and I can't afford to spend time fiddling with controls. It's only $3.00 too.

+1 to this. I use it every day and it's great.
Been using Feed Sponge for quite awhile and have no issues with it. Also use Stitcher.

Agreed. I own both dogcatcher and pocketcasts...
Pocketcasts wins in my book. ;x
I'm liking both PodKicker and Stitcher. Stitcher has a good market and UI, but doesn't allow you to add rss feeds. So I use PodKicker for that. Both are free, so I'm fine with switching between the two.

I've always used .podkast, because I like the ability to DL the mp3s , but whenever I have it installed, my battery drops like a rock. Thanks for other suggestions.

Pocket Casts
I've used Pocket Casts since it was the free app of the day in the Amazon App Store, then purchased it in the google market after the developer had problems with Amazon. It works great, and has a ton of features. The developer keeps it up to date as well.

[APP] Best Podcast Apps List!

Hi all! I did a bunch of searches trying to find out the best App for downloading or streaming podcasts, but the results were scattered and few. So I decided to compile a list of the best podcasting apps for android out there (with links) and ask the rest of the community to review the apps and make suggestions. As new apps are suggested I'll edit the list so that a bunch of podcasting oriented apps can be found in one place.
(Links will be placed as soon as I can. I'm new to posting, not to research. Search for these in the marketplace.)
Paid:
BeyondPod (7 day free trail)
DoggCatcher
Pocket Cast
Free:
PodKast
PodKicker
PodKicker is my favorite. It updates automatically, streams and downloads podcasts (with the RSS Link), has a simple player UI, and best of all IT's FREE!
what about listen?
As a big podcast listener, I have tried pretty much all of these. BeyondPod was the best there was on WM, but I don't quite feel this way on Android.
On Android, my personal favorite has been Pocket Casts.

Pocket Casts is easily the best podcast app I have used. Also it is frequently updated and the developer is more than helpful.

Well, I had trouble with it streaming. An error would always appear. Also, the market/search was horrible.
But what does everyone else think about listen? If I get enough people saying they're on the Listen band wagon I'll add it to the list.
Posted through my Atrix 4g
On using Stitcher for awhile I've found that it's a solid app for main stream podcasts, such as NPR and CBS created podcasts, but lacks the ability to upload through a link. There are a ton of podcasts I listen to that weren't in their market, so that's a down side to me.
which one gets the best battery life? pocket casts seems to drain my battery pretty quickly, I mean I guess the phone can't sleep while playing audio but just wondering if any get better battery life when playing than others.
what podcasts do yall listen to?
Was skimming thru the latest threads and decided to reply (Incredible 2)
.podkast used to be awesome (on GB) but since I've been on ICS it's only offered in foreign languages (from the market).
It had absolutely EVERY podcast available.
-Truckin'-
Podkicker, one of the very free that has managed to find every podcast I've searched for...most of the big name pod streamers can't find popular podcasts.
It's also one of the easiest to run, and easiest on the eyes!

I use DoggCatcher and love it. Tons of options, works great on ICS 4.0.4 (Droid RAZR MAXX) and a nice feature is I can skip ahead or backwards in podcasts (jumped by a set interval) by pushing the SKIP and PREV buttons on my car stereo. (When connected via Bluetooth)
No battery issues -- has onscreen playback controls on the lock screen and notification bar (native ICS) and I set it to only download podcasts at night when the phone is connected to power.
I use AntennaPod - it is free and minimalistic

CM9 Music app sluggish

I have recently made the jump to ICS and have been looking for the best Music app for my phone. I have found i really like the CM9 music app minus a couple reasons, One being when i select an artist there is no way by default for it to show all the songs, Instead, i have to select the artist THEN the album its in, the problem with that is almost all my music has wrong/no album data at all leaving my music hard to find while browsing artist which to me is the best way to browse my music. Secondly, the app is slow. its always freezing up on me and is sometimes unusable. this may be the rom im running (Hypernonsense) but i doubt it could be when everything runs just fine. Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem, thanks.
poweramp is the best music app in the market but i actually use the htc stock one which has Beats audio and using cm9 that has never happened to me
Well considering you fall for the beats audio gimmick your mp3/music app opinion is invalid.
i also said that when i tried cm9 i have never had any freezing or slow scrolling

Harsh. Beats isn't a gimmick, per se. It's just a dressed up bass equalizer. I like it, but I know it's no better than my old Sansa's bass EQ.
I've noticed that it gets really slow too. Especially when it has finished playing an album. It'll get really slow and it's really annoying when you want to scroll for something else. Bizarre little bug. I've not moved back to any other player though. It's still my favourite.
cm9 music app blows. constantly freezes if you try skipping 2 songs fast it freezes. thing sucks if you actually use it daily rather than just tried it out once or twice
I've been using it as a daily driver for two weeks. No issues.
CM9 Music player is only sluggish for me when it's playing music.
The alternative I use is PowerAmp. It's great. Go get it~
I had the same problems - fine at first but unusable after a few songs. I was never able to find a solution.
Out of all the music players I've tried (Google Music, CM9, and the HTC one) I actually like the HTC player the best. It just seems better organized and the playlist management works much better IMO.

New music player for CM9 or any other ICS rom

I found this thread and thought I would share. So far it has proven to be a good alternative to the default music player and has a real ICS style to it.

Nice find. I tried it, but it still needs some work. Had 3 FCs in 2 minutes. Plus it requests default actions when switching tabs, minor annoyance, but major if you screw up and select Google Music, then you get either FC on open or when changing tabs.
It does look promising, but I'm gonna stick with MortPlayer for the time being. If you have tons of mp3's, I mean like 10000+ mp3's, you really need something like MortPlayer or a folder music player. Loading and scanning all those id3 tags can take forever or crash your device.
I used to have 50000 or so mp3's and 1.5tb of Videos until I had a brownout doing a backup of all my data. The lesson---when backing up all your important data from 15+ years, hook your pc up to the damn generator 50ft away in the storage shed. I might be at 10% of where I once was, but at least I'm getting replacements with BD quality. There weren't bluray quality rips back in the day. Don't ask how cause I won't tell.
Anyone ever watched those old DBZ rips in rm format??? Something like 15mb an episode and horrid quality, and we were damn happy to have them. Dial up was a mf.
I'm gonna go play MW3 now. I'm Bravoed out for the day.

[APP][4.0] 432 Player - Listen To Your Music, Pure, Quality Sound

------------------------------------------------------
V 7.8 is out!
-Notification now cleared on X button even if app is OFF

-Added an option to filter/unfilter small media files
-Added an option to scan album covers through the web and fill missing art automatically

The 432 Player, plays your music while pitching the frequency of your music in real time to be in the 432hz frequency.
This frequency is considered to be much more in tuned with the full essence of the music by many scientists and musicians.
Appum Studios produced this mobile application so all of you listeners around the globe could feel and share the joy of music with all around you, no adds, no in app purchases, just a clear clear sound with slightly different and positive experience
"There is a movement in the Music World that is trying to bring back the 432hz pitch into our lives. "
The A=432hz tuning is also known as “The Mathematical Tuning”, “The Natural Tuning”, ”The Pythagorean Tuning”.
432 Player - Google Play
More Details:
We have all been tuned by the mass media to the Concert pitch of A=440hz.
The majority of the music you listen to is tuned to this pitch.
Today research shows that the 440 pitch is a bit off and disharmonious with our bodies and minds.
If you’re a Musician or an Audiophile or just love listening to your music this will be a tipping point for you.
According to studies 432 resembles a code underlying our very universe in all aspects – light, time, gravity, magnetism, DNA, sacred geometry and the list goes on. 432 number, and its divisions, extends throughout all ancient history.
Why is this important? Because sound (vibration) influences the mind and body immediately.
Even the slightest constant dissonance can bring one to confusion, inner chaos and staying blind to what is going on around.
Think about it, when something irritates you, the only thing you can deal with is making that thing stop.
But you will never address bigger problems.
It is well known today that the molecular structure of water is affected by vibration, thoughts, words, ideas and of-course Music.
Our human body is made of approximately 70% water.
So the link is pretty immediate here.
We are inviting you all to listen to your beloved music through this player which you will not only enjoy the brighter feeling it resonates but also will conceal healing qualities for the body and mind.
Love Light & Meditation.

Some information about pitch shifting and 432hz vibration:
“Concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. There is no matter.”

http://omega432.com/432-music/the-importance-of-432hz-music
The app is free, and has no financial background to it. Mainly exists as a tool for those who want to hear their music in a more refined and healthy tone opposed to the 440 Hz.
** The app will pitch shift music that's tuned to A = 440 Hz, it will not work on music tuned to other A note references.
Enjoy

Thank you so much!
Would love to get more opinions from other users downloading.
I like the idea.
What about Anti-Matter energy?
From Nutrition and Dietetics i hear Calories as energy from within.
Physicists say joules as energy.
Both require matter. But do you know?
NASA is concentrating on Anti-Matter energy to propel their shuttles for interstellar travel?
Theists say Anti Matter as God the creator of matter beyond perception.

The difference is that thie 432 Player is the only 432hz player in the mobile world
This player was produced to answer many user's request for a media player with 432hz abilities.
You can read the info above to fully understand what is 432hz frequency..
Cool app. Music sounds great. Here are some things that need to be added.
Album art. Album art downloaded like Apollo.
Sort music by track title under all songs. Currently they are listed as album title order.
Better status bar icon. Its just a blank square currently.
Albums are currently listed by when they were added instead of alphabetically.
Once I leave app it stays open and icon persists in the status bar.
Also battery doctor saver App reported this as power drainer. Please look into it.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions and bug reports!
Song list order will be changed in next version.
Some users prefer it that way, so we might give the option to choose how to sort the music.
What is the mobile device your are trying 432 Player on?
In most devices the album art is presented in the status bar (if it exists)
Do you see the album arts when youre inside the player?
The notification in status bar is supposed to be there, even when you minimize the player and go to other applications on your device, so you can control the music without having to reopen the 432 Player every time..
If you want it to be gone, just press the back button from 432 Players main screen, then choose exit. Than the notification window will be cleared
And thank you for the compliments!
