[Q] ap2sd and data++ confusion, help - General Questions and Answers

ok so i have taken the mighty step and rooted my desire, the main reason was the shortage of space for apps a poor 150mb! Followed a noob guide on here and rooted and s-off'd, and also partitioned 1gb on my sd card as ext 4.. i have put on a insertcoin GB sense 2.1 cm7 1.08 rom on and it has installed all my apps and data and phone contacts by its self (previously tried another rom and add to add all this on myself) so all my apps are on and i go and check my internal memory and i have 22mb of room left!!!??? i have manualy moved as many apps to the sd card as possible but i thought they would all be on there? how come my internal storage is getting so full? This makes the rooting process pointless.
thanks

When you move apps to the SD not all appdata is moved to the SD.
For example:
- Ponon DLX: 9MB on SD - 400KB is still on the phone
- Pulse: 2MB on SD - 3,84MB is still on the phone
- Angry Birds Rio: 16MB on SD - 300KB is still on the phone
- CardioTrainer: 7MB on SD - 3MB is still on the phone
That's 8MB of the internal storage used. So if you have many apps, then you'll see that it takes a big bite of your internal storage. The reason for this is that many apps uses features/processes of the system that can't operate from the SDcard like the clock, camera, flash, facebook, messaging, widgets and so on.

[Q] Saving internal memory

Hi,
I noticed the internal memory keeps getting used on my phone (Optimus One). As it is only 170mb max I want to use more of the external SD memory instead to preserve speed.
I haven't installed any apps but have sync'ed google apps like contacts/mail and this seems to use up internal memory. How can I change it so everything is stored on external SD card instead?
I am running android froyo 2.2

if it is froyo, you can save some apps into sd. also, if rooted, you can save a lot of memory in the phone with darktremorĀ“s script

[Q] Phone Storage

So is there any usable phone storage on the sidekick instead of using just the memory card?
I guess I read online theres only 135mb of internal space. That sucks compared to the vibrant. Oh well.
Yes, it fills up pretty fast, then you have to weed out the less important apps to make room for the important ones! I wish there was a way to "merge" removable (SD) storage with internal (Phone) storage.
Also a few apps can be optionally moved to the SD card but will lose Widget capabilities.
And it is amazing how many apps are NOT movable to the SD even though there is no reason (widgets, etc.) to have them on internal storage (example: Zippo Lighter).
If you go with a light rom you can get a lot back, gcV2 leaves 380mb for use.

Clarification with moving apps to SD/ext.

Motivation: I've just installed ICS 4.0.4 BCM RC4.1U2 on my HTC Desire, and I am finding I have low internal storage. Browsing around, I found lots of people talking about app2sd, link2sd, app2ext, and need some clarification on them all.
As I understand it:
app2sd is about moving part of an application to the SD card. The application will still take up some space on the internal memory. This is the concept, and apps like app2sd and link2sd do this.
app2ext is about making a partition on your SD card, which the phone thinks is part of its internal memory. To do this, I'll have to format my SD card and install a zip from CWM recovery.
So my questions are:
1 - Is my understanding correct? Have I missed any other big apps or tricks to do with freeing up internal memory.
2 - For app2ext:
- I guess that your phone's speed will then be linked to your SD card's speed. What class of SD card do you need for good performance.
- Is there a limit on how large you can make your virtual internal memory?
- Will applications with widgets work if moved to the ext partition of the memory card?
3 - I was previously on Cyanogenmod 7, and had more free space (only about 70mb was used, as opposed to 110mb now), is this just because I've got the next version along, with more features, so it takes more space?
4 - Is it possible that previous ROMs have left data behind that is eating up my internal memory, is there some way to purge this?

[Q] low internal memory (500mb of 12gb??)

Hey, I just got a 16gb Verizon s3 and rooted, unlocked boot loader, installed liquid smooth v2 jellybean rom, and I installed maybe 20 apps I always run with on my phone and then tried side loading swype and flash player but my phone is saying there's not enough memory and I need to clear some space. The intended phone shows the I've used maybe 500mb of my 12gb internal capacity and I went to try to move the downloaded apps to the sdcard to see if that might help, but I don't even see an option in settings>apps to move the apps to the sdcard. Used to be a toggle switch to move to SD or back to phone if you wanted a widget to stay on internal memory.
Anyway, I've been googling and trying to figure this out and I can't. Before I rooted and flashed I had all of these apps on my internal storage with no low memory warnings. Can anyone explain why the entire 12gb internal memory is not available to me for apps? And how do you move apps to sd on the s3? I saw in rom brower that my real sd is actually called sd ext and the folder called sdcard doesnt seem attached to my physical sdcard at all but maybe part of the rom's memory? I don't want to always have to move apps to sdext if its even possible, I want the 12gb available to me, not only 500mb of it, and the option to move to SD would be nice for some games and apps but I also want to be able to keep certain apps on phone's internal memory.
Thanks for any help with this!!
Is the card actually full? AFAIK GS3 is kind of weird -- the internal memory will be partitioned such that you'll see the "user" partition as /sdcard, and everything gets saved here, including apps and nandroids. In Settings -> Storage, if you click the internal "sd", it should bring up a sorted list of what's using the most space.
Personally, I'm trying to figure out if there's a good way to utilize an external sd card.

I tried uploading screens on op on my phone but when clicking choose file to upload nothing happened. On my phone in settings it says I have 11.54 of 12.05gb internal memory available and 17.35 of 29.71gb sdcard memory available.
I'm on this ROM: liquid-jb-v2.0-rc5 .. its 4.1.2
I have always liked liquids ROMs (and spjesters) but I might give cm10 a try later when I'm around WiFi and redownload all my apps and then try side loading again and see if I get same low memory error
Still not sure what the deal is with liquids rom but I switched to paranoid android jb rom and no problems with internal memory so far. I've used over a gb of memory on apps from market and sideloaded and really like the way the settings are laid out in 2 columns. only real problem with I've noticed is that for some reason Swype won't autospace in the stock jb rom so I switched to using opera for now

[Q] Running out of mem; any way to force (entire) apps to sd

*note i have lte version with 8gb mircosd, on vanilla 4.4.3 with temp root*
i'm trying to install hearthstone, the game takes like, 1.8gb or something
well, i have enough for it to install, then i cleared alot of stuff, and moved all the app that i could onto sd in setting
after everything, i have ~500mb left
problem is, i can't update it, i think you need like, 1 gb (or maybe even the entire game's space, 1.8) for it to update
hell, i couldnt even update chrome with like 300mb of space left over
i'm noticing that moving the app to sd there's is virtually not much saved space, plus i've created alot of dup data on the sd card
the linking between the two is piss poor
is there anyway to force the entire app to go on the sd card? my previous phone could do that (samsung exhibit 2: had only <2gb internal memory and i moved entire apps to the sd card)
