Can't for the life of me flash any custom ROM. - General Questions and Answers

I have an HTC Desire. The first one, not HD or Z etc. I rooted using Unrevoked3 and since then tried, with no success, to flash various different ROMs.
The problem I'm having is that right after first loading the ROM, an unending barrage of force close messages flood me (the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again), and there's no signal. By struggling my way through all of these FC's, I manage to get to the wireless and network settings and I notice that the Airplane mode switch is being turned on and off repeatedly. The bottom option for the network settings also appears to be going in and out of "greyed out" mode. The only way to stop the FC's is by somehow managing to press the Airplane mode button at just the right time so that it stays on. Once Airplane mode is on, there are no FC's but, also, still there's no signal since it's airplane mode. I can, however, turn on my wifi and internet works perfectly.
So obviously the phones inability to connect to my network is what causes all of these FC's. The question is why?
I have tried several different ROM's, among them a few versions of Cyanogen including the latest one and the latest CM6, Oxygen, DevNull... All had the same issue.
I am wiping my Data, cache and Dalvik Cache before every flash. I tried running Fix Permissions from ROM Manager. I even tried flashing several different Radios. Nothing works!
After restoring my official rooted Sense ROM, everything works perfectly. What the hell is in (or missing from) these custom ROM's that prevents the phone from connecting to my network??
Please, Please help! It's driving me crazy...

Finally got it sorted. The solution seems a bit weird.
It seems that that the cause of the problem was the USIM card that the network provided me when I signed up. It worked perfectly fine with the stock Sense ROM, but once I tried any other ROM, the phone just couldn't connect to the network. After replacing the card with an older version, it suddenly works fine with Cyanogen. It doesn't seem like my card was defective because the same thing happened to a lot of other people with that same USIM model.
Any idea on how is it that a certain SIM card just wouldn't work on custom ROM's, but would only work on the stock one?

Hi ToastMan,
- from which provider is your SIM card? Tmobile, eplus, ...?
- is your Desire SIM-locked (probably not, but how knows ...)?
- from which provider was the working SIM card?
I also have the original Desire and all of the yet installed ROM's (a lot!) worked.
I'm on German Tmobile, last year on Vodafone, never had any problems.

My phone is unlocked. I'm from Israel, so I'm using an israeli provider called Cellcom. Both the problematic and working sim cards are from them. Its just that the one I replaced the bad one with is an older version.

I'm getting old, thought you are from Germany. Maybe I need new glasses Sorry for useless provider questions/info from my first post.
I searched a little bit around in XDA but couldn't find anything which could help. And my knowledge with errors related to SIM cards is very poor.
On ROM side:
You wrote it happend on every custom ROM. Where they all AOSP (=without Sense) ones? I never read that anybody had SIM problems installing different ROM.
Or do you have a CDMA decice and not a GSM model? Than there will be a big problem if you flash a CDMA ROM on a GSM device and vice versa.

They were all AOSP. I never tried Sense based ones. And yes, I paid attention to what ROM version I was downloading. I have a GSM device so I downloaded GSM versions.

[SOLVED][Q] Unable to make outgoing call on ICS

Just found out that I can't make any outgoing calls and it looks that is only ICS related. Like most of us, yesterday I installed that first nandroid backup version of ICS, rooted it, flashed glados 2.0 kernel and everything worked great out of the box, 2G/3G data tested, answered few calls, received and sent sms also without problems. Well, today I tried to make my first outgoing call but no success, got "call ended" message immediately after I press phone icon on contact or using a dialer. I flashed new ICS bootloader and radio but that also didn't solve it, then I restored my GB backup and calling worked as before, even with new bootloader/radio. I also can't change those "other call settings" in dialer, it says "network or SIM card error". At last, I wiped everything and flashed today's version of NexusBeam HD ROM and the problem still persists
So, anyone got same problem or solution?
Same here..
Thanks for replying, seems like I'm not the only one with that issue, the only thing that's crossing my mind is that this could be carrier related because we are both on Tele2 in eastern europe... Can anyone else on same carrier confirm that?
I just tried. First attempt failed, like what you described. But all subsequent attempts succeeded. It does seem like there's some sort of bug in ICS.
Really weird, no matter how many times I try, still can't get it working... It's kinda frustrating because I really like ICS as everyone else. However, I'm back to GB and waiting for 4.0.4 or next update which IMO shouldn't be too far because people are getting all kind of issues, seems to me that google released it a bit too early.
Hi, i had the same problem, i needed to upgrade my radio. depending on your phone model pick the compatible one.
download, flash in recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Thanks for advice, but already tried them all without success. After reading similar cases, I'm 99% sure that's Tele2 problem because everyone who has this issue is on this carrier, calls are working normal with other operator's sim cards in same area. I just emailed their customer support so I'm wondering what their response will be
i had same problem and i tried all radios but to no avail so i just downloaded and flashed the radio that i knew used to work for me. Even though it didn't work i left the phone of for like 4 hrs then turned it on later and it had signal. not sure what changed.
Solved at last, seems that it actually was a carrier issue like I thought. Tele2 responded on my mail after 1 MONTH and all they said was that problem is strictly in my android software... However, few days ago I replaced my sim with their latest, and as soon it got activated the "call issue" was gone... everything works as it should with no bugs so if you have a similar problem with your carrier just try replacing a sim with the newest one.
I like it when people get the problem solved by themselves and return to tell how they did it. Thanks.

Stock JB Update Hosed up my radios?

I was blissfully working just fine on my MZ602 Xoom. I would pop the Micro SIM card out of my phone and into an adapter whenever I wanted to use the Xoom. It worked flawlessly.... that is, until I updated to JellyBean. Now the Xoom will not even SEE a SIM card.
I went to Verizon store today and the guy was about as helpful as diving gear in the sahara. He said you should not be able to pop a phone SIM into a tablet and it works... well that's BS cause I've been doing it for almost 2 years. "Well, then the update must have fixed a bug that allowed you to do that"... no duh sherlock... pop a SIM in from your repository and make sure the things even works still and I'll buy a tablet package. Well, he did and it did the same thing, no connection. "Not under warranty so, sorry man". Thanks for nothing, no I don't want a new tablet!
[/Rant]
I have since flashed the ICS radios and have the same issue. I have tried stock, non stock, rooted, non-rooted, Honeycomb with ICS radios, JellyBean radios.... nothign works, it no longer sees a SIM.
Previously when I popped in a SIM it would take a minute or two and then see signal, sometimes requiring a reboot, now it doesn't even recognize that a SIM was inserted. Before even if it wasn't picking up signal and I removed the SIM it would give a warning "SIM removed, reboot?" or somethign like that.
Currently running CM10.1 with the IMM76I radios. Works on WiFi but will not see any SIM card... am I hosed? Any help?!
Anyone?
How about this... Does anyone here still use their 4G Xoom on the Verizon network?
I plan to steal sim card from my wife ipad and try if I can find my sim adaptor. Will let you know.
I can tell you that my xoom no longer shows 4g network but always did before the update even though the sim card wasn't activated.

Did you use Rogue recovery to flash the radios? TWRP and regular CWM don't flash the radios properly.

Yes, used Rogue to manually flash ICS radios to no avail.
Previous load was 100% stock, unrooted on OEM bootloader and using stock recovery so the JB updated radios original flash was done properly.
I tried the Sim card from wife's iPad and it seemed to work OK. Although it seemed to connect a lot more to the 3g network than LTE and I have very song LTE signal. Radio doesn't seem quite as good as Previous.

[Q] Cellular modem and NFC unstable

Hi,
I hope someone could help me save a useless phone.
I got a Z3 from ebay (it's O2 Germany). As soon as I turned it on it updated to 5.0.2.
Then later I inserted the SIM card (took me some time to get the nano from the carrier).
It's not SIM locked.
The problem is that I can't get a steady signal. AT ALL. It hits a signal for 2 sec, then nothing.
It can recognize my carrier in the split second that it's on, I got the access points and all. I can even search for carriers and get a list of several to choose from.
The same phenomena is apparently happening with the NFC - the software switch turns on then straight off (same radio chip issue?)
I have tried GSM only, WCDMA only, LTE.
Tried changing the bands used using the internal *#*# menus.
Using flashtool I have flashed a stock global rom instead of the german. And local stock.
I have read that some people had this issue after the lollipop update so I rolled back to stock 4.4.4, same issues with cellular and NFC.
I'm really at a lost. I have this fancy brick that I was hoping to give my dad (he needs the screen size, the old fool) and instead I'm wasting valuable time at work trying to fix it...
Anyone?
Thanks,
Juv.

I got the exact same problem, im in Norway and using mye Operator firmware..
I'm having the NFC problem. I have the US T-Mobile version (D6616), and NFC stopped working right after I updated to Lollipop.
Factory reset, and repairing using Sony's PC Companion does not help. On first boot, i'll get a "NFC firmware update failed (-1)".

Credo Mobile ROMs

Hey guys, I've been searching for a new ROM for a while now, I was running pure nexus on 6.0.1 but obviously that's been updated and that's where I ran into my issue. Pure nexus seemed to work fine for me and all was well but, slowly as the ROM became outdated and everything moved onto 7.0 my battery life and quality seemed to get worse and worse. Eventually my phone was randomly turning off at 60-70% battery. So, I figured it was time for a new ROM however, when I installed the Nougat version of pure nexus I was unable to receive cell service and data. Now I'm assuming this is due to the fact that my phone is tied to Credo Mobile, for a carrier and they have some funky proprietary firmware they put on their phones. So my question is, does anybody that is on Credo know of any ROMs that might work on our phones, and/or does anybody know what could possibly be going wrong? I've tried quite a bit of troubleshooting, flashing the stock bootloader and radios, editing my APNs to match the ones I could find online for Credo, I've tried multiple different ROMs including OctOS, Carbon, Zephyr, CM, and many more, and of course the other troubleshooting options such as updating recovery, supersu, etc. I am completely stumped, and any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Every nexus phone comes unlocked even when purchased from a carrier, so there should not be any proprietary firmware on your phone from the carrier. My guess is your EFS got messed and thats why you arent getting any cell service. Goto settings and check if your IMEI is displayed. If it is a 0 then your EFS is the problem. Also did you revert to the latest stock version and see if the problem still existed? It can be found here : https://developers.google.com/android/images#hammerhead
I'm fairly certain my service still works on stock, I haven't checked in a while, but I'll do that just to be sure. I doubt all of that really helps but I figure you know more than I do haha. To further explain I also seem to be able to proc my service to work when I switch airplane mode off and back on again, but only for a couple seconds and it craps out after that. It at least detects the SIM card, but no service whatsoever. I'm thinking it could possibly have something to do with the APNs but, I've tried so many different combinations of different Credo APNs online I'm not sure that's actually what's wrong.
Edit: I should also add that on the Credo SIM card under mobile networks in the settings there are carrier settings where you can choose to update your PRL and update your Profile. When I do this the PRL successfully updates but the profile update gets stuck on "The network is preparing your services."
Okay so I reverted to stock and after successfully updating my PRL and Profile I was able to verify service and data are working perfectly. Getting an average of 4-5 bars.

Mobile network/data connection doesn't work. APN is correct

My 4G doesn't work anymore. Since a week it doesn't work, but it worked before. It started to broke down a lot and I got it to fix itself by rebooting. But now for over a week I can not get to work by rebooting anymore.
I tried a different SIM card, but that seem to fail aswell. I think it's a software problem, but I don't know how to rerun to an older version since it's stock. I don't have a custom ROM or rooted since my bank app doesn't want to work on those devices.
Suggestions are much appreciated.
