Are there generic docks? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if they have any generic HDMI docks out there? I pretty much only wanted the motorola speaker dock so i can have my hdmi plugged in with ease. It's too expensive though.. for a minor annoyance.

Even if it was 50% off? I think it's worth it then.

Thanks. Are there any other ones that look "better"
Also whats this I hear about OEM dock charging thru some other means rather than the usb pin?
Yes, If you look at the bottom of your N1, you see those golden pins. These are used to charge the device with the OEM dock. I have it on my nightstand and I love it. I should add a stereo to my bedroom so I can also stream music with it.

Compared to my G1 dock, and the wife's Captivate dock, I've got to say that the "connectorless" charging on the HTC dock is just awesome. Yes, the dock is pricey, but being able to (literally) drop the phone on the dock rather than carefully seat it is really great. Need to grab the phone, no "hold the dock with one hand and pull the phone with the other"...just grab the phone.
There are complaints about the phone vibrating in the dock and losing connection, but that hasn't happened to me, and the benefits of docking with the gold pins is huge IMHO. I strongly encourage the OP to consider the HTC dock (unless there's a 3rd party dock that uses those pins, but I don't think there is).
Spend the extra money and go for the HTC OEM Dock. You won't regret it!

Totally agreed...
I have recently purchased the desktop dock and its well worth the extra money because of blue-tooth connectivity. FYI This works whether the phone is docked or not.
What ok really dislike about the dock is that as soon as you remove the phone from the stand it will interrupt the bluetooth connection and switch sound back from the hifi to the phones lousy loudspeakers. Even if you just pick it up to read iure were a text. When you drop it again the phone turns on bluetooth again and tries to reconnect with the dock which takes about 40 second in total. And totally unnecessary! As far as I understand when I take the phone from the dock not the dock but the phone turns off its bluetooth therefor it's only a question of cellphone implementation. But I haven't found a tweak yet that changes the phones dock settings. If anyone has ideas on how to solve this inconvenience i4 be glad to hear them. But beside that the dock I is stylish and useful...

[Q] Any recommendations for desktop dock?

I know that Triumph is not the most popular model but was wondering if there are generic docks that would work with this phone. I am looking at the minimum the ability to recharge the phone while docked. If there is speaker that would be a bonus.
I second this motion!
I'd love to find a dock.
This is the only dock that came up in a search on amazon.
Dock
It looks rather generic, but it might work. Tonight I will compare the placement of the micro USB against the Droid X.
Personally I am waiting for the the Philips Fidelio.

Charging Dock Without Keyboard?

I am looking to get a TF700T and use it as a headunit in my truck. To do this I need a charging dock that also has a 3.5mm out so I can go from that to RCA in my amp. So far all the docks I see are for the keyboard which I do not need. I've seen a few old threads about docks which look awesome but never seem to have been released.
So are there any docks which fit the description? This is a deal breaker for me if not
As crap as it may be as a hanging unit, are you referring to something like this:
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/ASUS-Connect-Dock-docking-station/2889038.aspx#TS
It does seem to have a 3.5 jack out (as does the regular dock, bu the way).
It was referenced in this thread...

...which may contain more tips as to whichever dock might fit your needs.

Any desktop dock recommendations?

NOTE: I'll be using this with the GT-I9505G (Google Play Edition)
With my previous S2, I had a simple desktop dock that acted as a charger and didn't require me to remove the case. Something like that would be more than adequate. But, I also plan to get the MHL cable, so something that can function as both would be nice as well. So here's a few that I'm looking at. Please comment and/or add your own suggestions.
Samsung Galaxy Smart Dock Multimedia Hub - $80-$100
This, designed for the Note II and now the S4, seems like a solid choice, if not a bit expensive. It will fit the phone with most slim cases. It will also work as an HDMI-out, and even has 3 extra USB ports for peripherals such as a hard drive, keyboard, and mouse. More than I need in most cases. Also, the cost doesn't seem too unrealistic when you consider what you're getting. The MHL adapter is $40 alone, a basic dock that doesn't suck is $20, and this comes with an extra charging brick/cable. So $100 is a bit much, but $80 is a fair deal if you need all of those things.
The downside? No landscape support, which is an issue for some apps via MHL (uses a fraction of the HDTV). I'll have to see if my emulators will allow for a forced landscape mode. At least there seems to be a few apps that act as a workaround.
Sinjimoru Sync Docks - $15-$25
These come in a multitude of colors, and two materials; plastic ($15-$20) and aluminum ($20-$25). They support both portrait and landscape orientations. The dock comes with a charging cable (but no AC adapter, so you'll need to use the one that came with the phone or buy another). In portrait mode, the cable clips into the base and holds the phone in place, though it's dubious if a slim case will work. In landscape mode, it's dubious if the phone will stay in place (and you have to unclip the cord or use another). These are simple, elegant, and inexpensive, and if I knew for a fact that it would work with a case in portrait mode, it would be a frontrunner.
Ppyple Swivel Sync and Charge Dock - $20-$25
Looks like a mix between the Nexus 4 wireless charging dock, and a Jetsons recliner. Swivels between portrait and landscape orientations and seems to support most slim cases. Comes in black or white. So, downsides? Doesn't act as MHL, so the landscape orientation doesn't help me too much (I could find a use for it, though).
The Sinjimoru was a waste. It doesn't support the S4 with a case, but it's not advertised as such. However, the iPhone knock-off cable barely penetrates the S4 even without a case. You have to jam it into the S4, and even then, you'll get occasional disconnects/reconnects (evident by the screen turning on). Elegant looking and made of quality material, this dock is pretty much useless in terms of functionality. Also very unstable. The phone is very loose even when docked, and the dock slips around the desk easily. The back has a slippery rubber foot, while the front has no rubber foot.
I ended up getting the Samsung Multimedia dock/hub. It supports MHL via HDMI as well as 3xUSB inputs (USB OTG). While it initially doesn't force landscape, plugging in some USB keyboards forces landscape. Pretty cool.
The major downside is that it does not support MHL 2.0. 1080p is limited to 30hz, and it will not function without a power adapter plugged in.
I've been considering getting this dock. From what I could gather the OTG and MHL functionality don't work simultaneously, unlike in the Samsung dock.
The audio output on the back doesn't seem to work. Not sure if this is a limitation of the GPe variant, or if the dock is broken. I'll see if I can get a friend with a Touchwiz variant to help me test it.
Not a deal breaker, as you can plug an audio plug into the top of the phone. But it's more of an "it should work if I paid for it" issue.

Fast Charging Nightstand Dock

Does anyone use a nightstand dock that supports fast charging of our phones, either through USB C passthrough or any other method?
There has been some discussion on this already, consensus is that there are not a lot of good choices.

The Encased one looks the best I've seen but the reviews are horrible. Don't get your hopes up if you buy one.
If the well-known and liked companies that make USB cables are having a hard time getting the USB-C specs right, you can bet that the docks are an afterthought. Seems like it shouldn't be so hard to make a high quality USB-C dock with a simple pass-through so you can use whatever cable/charger you want with it... but nobody has really done it yet.
Sony DK60 is being released February 27th. I plan on picking one up myself. Price is a little steep but what else would you expect from Sony? Specs can be found on their main website.
