Im planning on buying a 16 gb microsd card but all i can find is cards class 2 is that enough for recording 720p and loading applications installed to the SD card ? keep in mind that i also plan un buying a optimus 2x which has 1080p recording
Which brand do you like better? sandisk? kigston? trascend?
I read that sandisk class 4 cards are REALLY good but they dont show up in their website or amazon :/ , it seems they only sell class 2 cards, and kingston offers cards class 10 and 4 , class 10 seems a little excessive
Class 4 but really class 6 is what u need class 2 will die
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
yeah minimum a class 4
class 2 is just a pain, it will make you want to throw the phone away, and explode it into a million tiny bits
class 6 is the normal speed for a fluid experience
Im using a Sandisk 32GB class 2 card, it writes at 5~7Mb/s depending if its a large file or several smaller ones and read as higher than 15Mb/s

Ive been reading good comments about the sandisk cards, but they only sell class 2 cards :/ , what brands are u guys using?
If you are getting a 16gb card, or less sandisk, kingston or toshiba, class 2 or class 4 offers similar read/write speed, although the toshiba and kingston is a little faster, the sandisk is much stable.
Read is about 11-14mb
write is about 8mb
I had a toshiba 16gb class 2 in my i9000, it plays 720p videos without any problems, now i am using a lexar 32gb class 10, results aren't any different.
Hope this helps.
lexar 32gb class 10? jezus christ you must have payen an arm and a leg for that ****.

Approximate usd 85.
The class designation of SD Cards ONLY represents the sustained WRITE speed to the card in MB/s. So, class 2 means it can be written to at 2MB/s, while class 10 means it can be written to at 10MB/s.
The designation has no reference whatsoever to the read speed of the card. So, basically every response stating otherwise in this thread is wrong. You should be able to get suitable sustained read speeds out of any class 2 or higher SD Card for the purposes you will be using it for. It will just take you longer to transfer the data to it in the first place. As for video recording from your phone, class should should be plenty as I'm pretty sure 720P comes in under 2MB/s.
Wow, yea. Just that i seen some online shops which class 2 32gb cost 100$
But on amazon the lexar class10 32gb is really cheap...
http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-MicroSD...610M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296152464&sr=8-1
Anyway, i got a 16gb class2 card (a-data) and i can play 720p and record just fine...
Electroz is right. Its only about transferring and stuff.

The speed of the card used in the phone does not make much of a difference, its onlt when you transfer data to and from Pc, but its always best to get the fastest available, if the budget is the main problem, consider getting a kingston or toshiba, but make sure you get one that is made in japan, as the taiwan version is a litttle slower, japan version are becoming harder to get now, since the japan factor has transferred their production to the taiwan site.
The classes stated on each card is only the minimum it will reach.
Class 2 at least 2 mb read/write
class 4 at least 4 mb read/write. etc.
So it can be anything above the actual figures.
For more info on microsd, see my link in the sig, although its a little out dated.

The actual retail price for the lexar 32gb class 10 is 149 usd.
No problems with 32GB Class 2 here, it can record and decode 720p just fine, and there is nothing else as intensive as those tasks that you'll be doing with this handset (may not be enough to support 1080p in future handsets, but that remains to be seen).
Don't buy into this rubbish about needing Class 4 or 6 cards, unless you regularly load very large numbers of small files to your card, in which case you may want the higher write speeds.
when you run apps and/or games off the SD (App2SD) the slower the card the more time it takes to have a fluid experience, specially heavy stuff from gamesoft, or simply opening the application manager and waiting for the icons to load
repeat the same tasks with a slower card vs a faster card and you'll see the difference
of course you'll not really see much of a difference, unless you card is more than 50% full, and have over 300+ apps installed
You can buy a Kingmax 16GB Class 6 at Amazon for £43. I didn't had any problem to find it. Class 6 is much better. See you - Frank

amazon is always over priced, i rather buy them locally at the computer stores
Adata microSDHC 16GB, class 6 $35
Wintec microSDHC 16GB, Class 10 $36.49
Patriot microSDHC 16GB, class 4 $40
Kingston microSDHC 16GB, class 10 $102
i can also get authentic
Kingston 32GB microSDHC Class 4 Flash Card W/ Full Size SDHC Secure Digital Adapter $116.15
so at £43 pounds i easily get 2x Adata 16 GB class 6
which i already have many (each of my 5 phones has one, plus another one on the video camera CountourHD 1080p), and they work really good
LOL i always run out of battery before i run out of space in my video camera

If your getting cards from a non generic name brand, the read speeds should be around 15-25Mb/s , My class 6 card actually had a slower read speed of 15Mb/s compared to my Class2 ( 28Mb/s )
At the end of the day the difference between loading something was barely noticeable even skipping to different portions of a 3.7GB movie, Im guessing the phone it self is the bottleneck and not the card.
1% or 99% full should have ZERO effect on the read/write speed this is not some mechanical drive nor having 1 or all the apps in the market.
EDIT:
Again the class rating is only a rate on what is the minimum write speed the card can handle, sandisk rates their 32GB at class 2 when it writes at 6-7Mb/s ( making it class 6 ) on the phone and about 10Mb/s using a card reader ( making it class 10 )

yeh, buying from a local store is cheaper, from the same price of a kingston 16gb class 10, you can get a 32gb class 4, but the fastest microsd on the market is the kingston 32gb class 10, but stock is very limited due to high prices, and you probable need to place an order and pay in advanced, i'm still searching for one, since the last time i heard about it about 9 months ago.
adata are the cheapest cards now, but the speed are rather slow, compared when they only released the 8gb about a year ago.
I am looking at either a Lexar or Samsung both class 10, both around £37.
any advise as to which one is best based on anyone using.
The other question is do you need to format before use?
At the moment I have a 16gb but it is 98% full. Never chenged a card before was planning to copy the old card into a folder on laptop and then back onto the new card.
Any advise welcome,,,,,,,,
Go with transcend. If they have 32gb class 10.
They only do a 16gb class 10. I looked for Transcend first as I prefer this brand.....

I like transcend more than anything else.
I never had luck with transcend, i have a sandisk 32 gig which works great,
i had a kingston 32 class 10 within a few weeks it just burnt out on me it stop reading and wouldnt want to format or anything
I'm also looking for a 32gb micro sdhc for my HTC Vogue. I currently have a Sandisk 16gb that is nearly full. Earlier today I stumbled onto this thread from here at XDA...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
I found it quite helpful. I hope you do too.
I was surprised that class 10 cards weren't the best choice for the things I use my Vogue for.
Here is a passage that surprised me...
"Class 2 and 4 cards have better random access speed and random read/write than class 6 or 10 cards in general. To get higher sequential write speeds, manufacturers sacrifice the random access speeds.".
I would agree with Random read/write access might be better in Class 4 cards than Class 10...
But arent we forgetting that most of the applications are read more than Written when u open it.. I think a faster read speed with lower write speed would still be better than having lower read/write all together...Not unless you are downloading a torrent in background and running HD game with it... infact in that situation.. both cards will fail badly..
I prefer Sandisk.
A class 4 should generally give proper performance... 10 seems a bit overkill imho.
I've used the 8GB class 4 memory card that came with the Sensation for a while, and after switching to a 32GB class 10 Lexar I must say - it DOES make a difference. It's a totally different experience.
Been using SAMSUNG ESSENTIAL 32GB MicroSD for more than 2 months without issues. It has helped me to parallely download videos from tubemate in high speeds. Good writing and reading speeds. No slowdowns/jatter in 1080P recording which iam always using to cap my child.
Just bought a 32GB Class 10 Samsung card from play.com for £34.99. Working great so far!
I got the 16GB SD card for two reasons
1. The 16GB has a faster write speed.
2. I didn't have $90 to spend on the 32GB.

Oh also I did not pat $55 for the 16GB

what's the max class my dhd can handle? i've read that when you use a class 10 sd card in a phone that can only handle class 6, your speed will be brought back to class2, because the phone can't handle it??
Is that true? i don't know whether it's worth spending a couple more euro's for a class 10 16gb, instead of class 6 16gb. I don't mind spending some extra euro's (especially when it improves) but i do mind when it slows down the phone...
cheers
i think the DHD is compatible with a class 10 sd but im not certain. i have a class 6 16gb sandisk sd and it is really quick.

DHD supports class 10 cards. I personally have a 16gig class 10.
From what I have seen there's only a marginal difference between 6 and 10.
If you already have a class 6 there's no need to go for a 10.
Otherwise go for the class 10. You'll be amazed at the speed.
i wouldn't recommend buying a class 2, they may be cheap but the performance sucks

I also have a class 10 32gb limitation card in mine, it tops out around 12mb p/s when writing to and can read around 25mbps, i get much better speeds though when using a card reader, but those speeds are fine for my use...

Original Samsung supplied (8gb, Class 2):
Writing: 3.11 MB/s
Reading: 6.05 MB/s
New Samsung (16gb, Class 10):

Reading: 11.16 MB/s

Class 10 is the fastest micro SD card for now, but the htc engineer does not suggest that we use it because it could lead to some unknown error.
Class6 is enough.
32GB is supported by Desire S.
The purchase of the brand, Samsung is not a good choice because their indicators are virtual.
That's my personal opinion, just for reference.

Sandisk 32GB class 10 or Kingston
When you test a lot of roms (as beta tester), different tools or apk skinned, you need some space and faster w /rw
You could find this class of sdcard not really expensive, you must search a little.
i think people are exaggerating with these SD card classess.. my advice is that class4 and a quality brand should be enough for everyone. in fact you can have a class10 card from a noname manufacturer and the actual speed is same as class4 and a good brand. good brands are all that actually manufacture the chips. they are toshiba and sandisk/samsung. if you buy a sony, nokia or similar, you also buy those mentioned before, only rebranded. there is much written about this on the web, but in general: if you can't afford a 16gb class10 sandisk and they are trying to sell you same spec kingston for half of this price, it does mean something!
