After i did the ext4 mod (system etc. Not partition) before the rom i can't charge my phone while it's off. it stays as a grey battery. i also restored to another rom and still the same thing. i tried to two different phones. same on both.
Im having the same problem but it seems to charge just fine when your inside the rom. I'm running bionix frost.

I'm getting the same issue. I have to take out the battery, unplug the usb/charger, then power on phone to get it to power on. If I don't do this it will keep going back to the huge battery screen if I press and hold the power button.

this is one of the problems
its because of the rom, im looking into a fix now
i read in the ext4 mod thread thats an issue with charging when its off. the phone doesnt look for the ext4 format so it doesnt charge unless the phone/rom is booted up or something like that, not sure about any workarounds.
Are you sure its not charging? Or just the green charging animation is broke? Cause mine looks like what your talking about but it actually does charge. Did it last night powered up the phone this morning and it was at 100%

its simple yet slightly complicated
im not sure if the ext4 converter i gave you guys will allow the fix, i ended up finding another ext4 formatter(which is where i got the rfs formatter to go back to orginal state)
and with the new ext4 formatter i had to flash a rom twice in a row
this made the system into rfs but left data and cache at ext4, i guess system doesnt need to be ext4 for the phone to perform well because i still got the same quad scores

The phones are meant to do that...I think. Both this phone and my vibrant act that way while its turned off charging. Just unplug the phone and hold power button till it reboots.

Yea I got that same problem with having to take out the battery if I try to charge with it off. It locks up at the charging animation. We will probably see a fix soon enough, not that big a deal though.

I rooted my phone and am using the Leedroid rom. I tried to shut it down and can't seem to get it to stay off. It shuts off and then about 5 seconds later the CW Recovery screen pops up. Any ideas?
Thanks

I'll bet it's plugged in isn't it? It's a cwm bug or something. Unplug it and it will shut off.

I agree. Just sharing what I know of the issue.
Yeah but that's the whole idea. I want to shut it down and charge it. It shatges quicker that way. I did unplug it and it worked likeyou said. Defeats the purpose though. Haha

I don't think there is a solution, I'm pretty sure this is just a problem with the recovery. I'm not sure if koush could fix it or not. It might just be one of those things where if you want clockwork recovery, you gotta live with the bug. I'll take clockwork.

Mine only does it when the phone it plugged in. It stays off when it isn't
I also have this problem. I usually turn off my phone before bed time.
Rooted a few days ago, and this issue sucks. Will clockwork ever get fixed to solve this problem?
Does anyone know why my phone is resetting the battery stats after every reboot? When it reboots, battery use starts at 0 seconds as if it was unplugged from the charger.
Thanks in advance

I've read people that it works like stock. I remember it used to work on my phone a while back, but a couple of months ago it stopped working. I haven't found a solution for this yet.
Someone told me it was something to do with the recovery but I didn't understand and he did not reply back.
I don't think it is too important, but it would be nice if it work like it should.
Using the program here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835791
I tried to unlock my bootloader. Everything seemed to go fine until the program said the phone was rebooting.
The display went dark as if rebooting but never came back on. Since that moment I can't get the phone to power up at all. I can't get into recovery or download mode. The screen doesn't seem to even try to come on. The phone acts as if it has no battery installed even though the battery is there.
Anyone have any suggestions or do I have a legit brick?

Could be a major detail that some might overlook. That'd for sure do it. I got rid of my OG few weeks ago n I'm still stock so I wouldn't know this, but doesn't the process only take like 10 seconds if that? The actual flashing that's taking place. So it'd have to be quite the odds to lose juice in the middle of flashing. But wouldn't it be charging if its plugged in usb? I hope that my man who posted this gets it powered back up. Would be a major bummer otherwise.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Yes I have tried it without the battery. Right now I'm letting it sit without any battery or power to it to allow all components to discharge. I'll try it again in a couple of minutes.
I'm beginning to think I've got a real live or rather dead brick.

Just to make sure you read and followed all steps right? This one seemed crucial
**** IF YOU HAVE ANY PROGRAMS THAT SYNC WITH YOUR PHONE THEY NEED TO BE UNINSTALLED OR NOT RUNNING BECAUSE THEY CAN CAUSE BRICKS, Pdanet, easytether, droid explorer, kies, etc., etc., on down the line. I repeat if you have a program on your computer that syncs with your phone, it is NOT COOL TO HAVE THAT RUNNING! ****
Just trying to narrow down what the hell could cause the device not to power back up, also how long did you leave the device plugged before disconnecting or pulling the battery. Did oden stop responding or say anything other then rebooting ?

Or instead of paying shipping plus not having a phone for a week or so, you could file an insurance claim... Haha. Last I checked Asurion was still giving new phones due to lack of refurbs.
I had to run out quickly earlier to get a new sim for my Thunderbolt so I can have a phone to use in the meantime. The sim I had for it didn't work.
Some good suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'll have to ponder my options few as they are.

Yeah but when Vzw gets it back do they then discover it was rooted and then charge me for breaking warranty? I've always wondered how much they could tell in a situation like this.

They don't have to get it. Say you dropped it off a boat and you couldn't save it. They don't need it for insurance.

I had this happen on an HTC phone one-time. No joke, but to fix it, I think it ended up holding down power + volume down or up and then put the battery in. I tried a bunch of combinations like that until it booted. Same thing when taking the battery out. Does the red light show when the phone is plugged in?
well my luck just seems to be going down hill alot lately , i was using my phone and all the sudding my screen started flickering as it was flickering i looked at my battery icon and it said it was at 23 percent then the phone shut off, like just completely turned off. so maybe my battery icon is incorrect about my percentage?? if some one could help be id really aprerciate it.

Try charging it up to 100% and letting it drain all the way down til it dies and charge it up to 100% again. See if cycling it like that will fix it.

I'm running a beta ROM for a dev.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
So this morning I installed SkyJellybean from seanzscreams. I've been using it all morning and into the afternoon. I've installed plenty of custom roms, i have CWM from skater and I've never had a problem... until now. I went on a walk with my girlfriend, phone in my pocket the entire time, when I got back I pulled my phone out and tried to unlock it. Nothing happened. I tried to reset it. Nothing. Pulled battery, tried to go into recovery, tried to go into download mode, absolutely NOTHING. My phone isn't responding whatsoever. Seems like a brick but before the walk the phone was working perfectly fine and now it's dead. I didn't do anything from the time I stopped using it to the time I got home. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. It doesn't even vibrate. What in God's name is going on here?
Tell me what you think.
