ok so this is the second time talking to tmobile tech and them telling me june 15th gingerbread will be sent out, they just got word that its ready they said it fixes a bunch of things, she stressed on not having a task killer that day cuz it would mess the ota update up, im good cuz i dont need the ota il wait for the rooted version lol, she said make sure your battery is fully charged. she also said there sending it out that day because the sensation drops? i thought it already did??? idk im almost 80% sure now after hearing all the stuff she told me that it will be out. some of u guys should try calling tech support and see what they say

IMO they were delaying gingerbread update and saving it for June 15th mainly because they do not want most of the G2X users to go to stores on 15th and exchange their G2X with Sensation. They would want to sell Sensation to the new customers not unsatisfied G2X users. It's just a theory though. I just wish they release GB soon.
I am so excited!!!! Tomorrow I will be checking my phone the whole day!

i know i agree cuz i said why are you guys dropping both the same day and she said she didnt know lol, i was skeptical at first but after everything she said like temporarily disable task killer if u have one idk all makes sense, dude she was reading everything off to me from her computer screen she said, she was like some people were complaining about there phone shutting down and rebooting at times, she said the update will fix it, so lets see what tommorrow brings boys

From my experience, the level 1 techs don't know a whole lot, even about updates. Probably need to talk to someone in the Android tech dept.

T-Mobile more than likely is informing their G2x customers that the update is coming on the 15th to shut us up. I highly doubt the we would get the update before the European customers get theirs - they have had their devices a couple of months before we in the states got ours and they have still not seen an update. At this point I wouldn't trust a word T-Mobile says.

I have found Tmo is like anyplace else. There are great employees that read all the memos and know what the hell is going on and are helpful and then there are a bunch of deadbeats just collecting a check.

Nothing scientific about my theory, but I dont think we will see an update until after the sensation comes out. T-Mobile knows there are a great number of people annoyed with the bugs the G2x has, and some of these people might be willing to jump to the sensation.
If the G2x update came out prior to the sensation release, it might actually hurt sensation sales because G2x satification would rise.
Just a thought, could be totally wrong.

T-Mobile already made their money for the people who bought the G2x. A lot of people who will jump ship will still be within they're return period in which case Tmo doesnt make any more money off that same person buying the sensation.
Of course there are those who will jump ship outside of their return period, selling their G2x themselves. In that case tmo does make a little extra cash but I doubt their counting on that. I dont think the update has anything to do with the pending G2x release.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tmo's real money maker is the monthly plans. They care not about selling this device or that device or delaying this update or that update on purpose.

Sorry to disagree so strongly, but what are you smoking, and can I have some? They pulled the phone...no need to speculate on reasons why, but I don't think it's easy to make the case the g2x is still their flagship phone.

1. After several days of people posting about checking and several faults alarms.
2. Someone will actually get the up-date and not know enough to do a logcat.
3. More reports and claims of faults alarms, then screen shots will start.
4. Finally someone will actually post a link to the update.zip
5. Then a bunch of Noobs jump the gun, flash update, and loose root and custom recovery.
6. After a couple of hours someone competent will create a rooted, deodext Rom that can be flashed from recovery without bloat and everyone can be happy

rofl. I love it.
To me, it can make sense to wait or to just release it. They obviously have a brand new phone that needs an update. That is hurting them, money wise, more then just releasing the update.
Although you may have people hold out for the Sensation. Either way you have some people who have a G2x now, looking to buy a G2x or Sensation, and some who got pissed, sold the phone, and moved to Verizon.
I always believe to fix the problem as soon as possible. The longer it goes on the deeper the cuts.
My G2x is fantastic though on CM7. So while I may benefit from the update indirectly, I'm not sitting by watching the clock for it.

Hate to make you feel sad but i work for T-Mobile and there is no info out yet for reps to know what the date is for GB on the G2X. Only thing that is coming out on the 15th right now is the Sensation and the Samsung Dart. There is no info on the T-Mobile's network for reps saying that the 15th is the set date for GB. No one even knows if GB is going to be a OTA or a downloaded update. only time will tell

The sad part is that I know more about what this phone is capable of then the LG reps...

Its not that he is lying he wasn't given wrong info in which he through was true not his fault. Also if you go into your local tmobile store they can show you the notes you want to see. Also keep an eye on www.tmonews.com this site is always on the ball about tmobile stuff leaked out.

Interestingly, when I spoke to an executive at T-Mo on Friday about this he said that they had pushed back the date indefinitely and that he would send me a pre-paid return label to send him the two G2x's that I have for a full refund.
I doubt he would want to buy the phones back from me if an update was right around the corner.

This might be the official gingerbread... I havent got it on my g2x yet but we dont push an update to all of the phones at the same time...
So im gonna be looking into this..
And yall keep in mind in this post...
P.s... If your rooted tmobile wont tmobile wont push the update to you you would have to unroot to update the phone...

Just a friendly little anecdote for you. Do with it what you will...
I worked tech support in a call center for a large mobile provider and was terminated for posting on forums after they managed to link me to some posts I had made. They did this by monitoring network traffic in the building, which lead them to my computer since I was posting them while at work. I was fired for the content of the posts, although they were all completely harmless, such as your post. They felt I was divulging proprietary information.
For a long time I kicked myself for posting on the forums with my work computer, but really I should have been kicking myself for posting at all, from any device. In the end, just ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward.
Now, the bright side of this, 6 months later I landed a great job as a network admin for a great company.
Oh and about that company I used to work for, their name started with a T and ended with a Mobile.

I think you're missing the bigger point here. As I said in the post, the conclusion I made in the end was that it really wasn't worth it to post at all, regardless of where I was posting. They could just as easily linked me to the posts using other methods, such as overhearing something, or someone tattling. Or maybe I became facebook friends with someone on the forums, and they reported me. There are plenty of ways.
Nevertheless, I did say to do what you will with the story. But seriously, consider the whole risk vs. reward part of it. What are you really getting out of posting small bits of 'insider' information? Probably not much. And believe me, I didn't think I was divulging anything proprietary, but it didn't matter what I thought. My posts were almost identical to yours. I wish someone had said this to me back then (even though I landed a better job in the end).
Anyhow, good luck to you. You probably won't get burned like I did, but as they say... **** happens.
Can someone explain why a rooted phone will not work with the OTA? Is having CWM also an issue? What do I need to do to prepare my phone before the update arrives?
I also do not understand why TMo would not publish the update on their site like they do with all the windows phones.

Absolutely right. I later learned that I wasn't the first to be terminated for posting, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
In my last comment I mentioned that I wish someone had given me this bit of 'advice' long ago, but come to think of it, someone pretty much did. I distinctly remember someone replying to me one day and saying that they know other employees had gotten in trouble for posting. I brushed it off just like this guy/gal.

You need to revert back to stock for the update. This is because the update is designed to build on the stock OS, not whatever you have on your phone. As far as rooting it and leaving it stock, not sure what the root does to block the ota.

I can't be positive, but perhaps its not so much rooted as flashed with another ROM. I've heard of rooted phones being updated. I've not heard of cooked ROMs being updated.
But, I know nothing for sure.
I don't know if this means anything other than what it says. But I have tried to connect to get software update and it keeps giving me the old can't connect at this time message. Could it be that the servers on their end are overwhelmed with others trying to do the update if it is indeed out?
And another question...I am not a T-Mo suscriber. I use Simple Mobile. Would the update get pushed to my G2x or would I have to manually install it? Thanks
Thanks guys. I am running rooted stock and stayed that way on purpose so I could get the update. I also stayed stock because my phone runs like a champ. Never had a reboot and everything works as intended.
You are probably better off waiting a few days to let our developers get a hold of it anyway.

The update won't get pushed to Ur phone. Only T-Mobile customers will get the push.

When there are 'Official' releases to multiple carriers, then each carrier would get a push, based on their own agreements with LG. If the phone is a regionally sold phone, also called unbranded, a push is made to them also. Most commonly, you see the unbranded phones get the update first, since the carrier testing does not have to be done.
But, in reality..it is all a crap shoot....so you're still waiting, no matter what.

Yeah, most likely this is a false alarm. I just hope this long awaited update will fix the GPS (takes forever to lock). That's the only issue I have with mine. I don't have random reboots or overheating like others do.

So, I was wondering....where does one go to get 'solid' information? We're here in a community forum, using fake names. More than half of us can't vote, work in a burger king or in college. We all have a tendency to read and search and google/bing about the G2x.
I for 1 couldn't tell solid information from rumor. I will say this though...if the information you have, comes from Twitter, Android Police, TMONEWS, or anything with a 'Forum' in front of it....its a rumor. If your great news starts with, " I just talked to a TMobile CS...." its a rumor. If you just talked to your friend, who works in a store or is a TMobile CS agent, its a rumor.
You'll either get an OTA on your phone, and recieve the update which you can prove with a screen shot. Or you'll plug into the LG support tool and update, which you can validate again, with screenshots...
All else is rumors. Please post all rumors in the HTC Sensation forum...where they are living the dream.

hes said he had a g2x and all ready got the update to2.3.4 it comes in waves it all depends on ur imei number computer generated
he said a rep from lg came in and said all the phones with a dw under the batt came from one factory and the screen is known to bleed and the dwp was the newer model phone made after they fixed there f up.....and made the new ones in a diffrent factory...............

Doubt it, because several users received DWP models... They were refurbs.

I also heard from a Rep a month ago they were putting an update out that had the LG can in it.... Yea ok... Also my phone is dwp so I figure lets see ... My sons in the navy til 2014 .... yea ill get the update summer 2017... yea that sounds right ...
If there was a 2.3.4 update it would be on the LG Updater, which it is not. You believe in Santa Claus too?
My brothers myt4g had the 2.3.4 update I think a few months ago... And WE with the newer "FIRST DUAL CORE PROCESSOR PHONE" get 2.3.3 .... What the hells up with that... And this phone has all kinds of bugs... I'm on my second phone, while it is better than the first still has screen bleed at the top corners, reception is buggy all the time stock or custom ... but just got tired of arguing with tmo.

You should consider yourself lucky. No other 2X variant worldwide has received Gingerbread yet. They are still stuck on Froyo.
Hope you enjoy it, because I have been on 2.3.7 for the past three weeks. The only updates that I need to know about now are from the CyanogenMod team.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but it's really hard to take a post seriously when spelling and grammar are SO screwed up that I feel like I'm reading a combination of leetspeak/English second language/verbal diahrea. I just got done talking to a T-mobile rep about some problems I had with my G2x. So he asked for my firmware version and I told him 2.3.3 and then he asked for my kernel version and I told him. Then he told me to do "Checking" on my phone dial-er ,then he said I'm going to get an update in the next 24 hours to 2.3.4. If I don't they said for me to call them. Do you think they are bluffing?

While I can't say that they are wrong, I also can't say they are correct, either. Customer CARE isn't supposed to disseminate that kind of information to begin with, largely for this reason: they don't really know what they're talking about. They aren't briefed on this kind of information and therefore aren't supposed to mislead customers into incorrect information.

If this is true this would be fantastic. I could change my mod to firmware designed for TMO (wifi calling would work peeps) and it would hopefully flash a new baseband and solve some sms on 4g issues people are having (hopefully).
I bet I know what happened. The tmo rep probably misunderstood and thought you had the Tmobile G2, which does have a gingerbread 2.3.4 update. Don't waste your time calling those donkeys tomorrow.
Nothing yet. I don't think he would get a g2 and a g2x mixed up. Only because I gave him all my "about phone" information under stock 2.3.3 so who knows.

The CSRs at all the companies are notorious for knowing nothing and making stuff up. They are usually the last to know about updates, etc. so I would take with a very tiny grain of salt anything they say about an OTA coming soon.
So, did you get your promised OTA yet?

I used to be one of those CSRs.. actually I was a Tier 2 PDA Tech Support until they closed our call center... I was top performance on the site, and I didn't make stuff up .. of course, I got all my facts from xda-developers before we ever heard of them at work... plenty of the other tech support reps made stuff up though...
As far as the OP's OTA... I can guarantee the rep didn't know about what they spoke... We have the leaked 2.3.4 from the tracphone device, and while it's nice, there aren't enough differences that T-Mobile would bother with the hassle of doing an update OTA. That said, the firmware is *obviously* built, and they COULD push out such an update... They just won't.

Supposedly they took the tier 2 pda support totally in-house... but honestly their support has really gone down in the last year, I think they were already shopping the company to be sold when they closed my call center.

you know what tmobile costumer care and tech support dont know nothing other than whats in their screen. and honestly tmobile will not tell tech/care if there gonna be an update they dont know whats the exact date.
im telling you because i had worked with tmobile tech support.
yes they give us cell phones with the actual update but just to test.
and to be honest some people working at tech support dont even know **** about cell phones and how they work. if its not on their computer they put you in hold or send you to another person.
if you really want to know more about when this update gonna come out if it does. i guarrantee ya xda will be the 1st to know.

You will never even get a notification for an OTA. They can't push updates out to non-T-Mobile ROMs that aren't on the stock recovery.

Not quite true. If you are on a stock rom but not stock recovery, they will push the OTA to you but it will fail to install if stock recovery is not on the device.
