[Q] Issue w/ Unknown Baseband after flashing ROM - Verizon Droid Charge

I have been attempting to flash the ROM on my Charge all day with mixed results. After much frustration, I have finally been able to flash a few ROMs, and everything works great except I have no phone signal and my phone says "Unknown Baseband." in both slots. Earlier, it said it in only one of the slots. I have attempted Altered Beast, Stock, Stock Rooted, Deodoxed, all to no avail. Is there any way to flash just the modem or radio code?

did you actually read the directions, or just willy nilly flash from AB to stock and so on and so forth?
because they aren't all compatible with each other to do that

I was initially following the directions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
I went through all these directions, and after a reboot at the end, that's when it developed the problem initially.

There are only two known radios for the phone, and none of the roms flash a new radio, so even if the OP screwed up flashing his rom it shouldn't impact basebands, unless he didn't check PDA.
OP - What all did you actually try to flash? Are you sure you checked PDA in Odin, and not Modem each time?

I made certain I checked PDA each time.
Earlier yesterday afternoon, I was initially following this guide: [http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-t...and-clockworkmod-recovery-installation-guide/]until I realized it was old and didn't work w/ EE4. I had to flash my ROM back to ED1 Stock rooted in order for it to work. After that, I began following the guide in the earlier post. When my radios stopped working after that, I began flashing just about any ROM I could get my hands on, just to see if I get could get my radios back, including the aforementioned Stock, Stock rooted, Deodexed, Altered Beast, Debloated, etc. I eventually had to so the CWM repair ROM [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111486] and flashed to Altered Beast and then to Stock ED2 after that, which is where I think I'm sitting right now.

There are several people experiencing an unknown baseband, most of the time its from attempting to use cwm prior to v3 to flash a recovery, then fixing the soft brick and now we have a "unknown baseband"

This happened to me as well. Any way to fix?

Anyone try flashing the official EE4 update.zip with stock recovery? Since that is the only file we have that has modem parts, maybe it can recover your basebands.

Do you know where I can locate that .zip? I am in the same boat and would be willing to try.

My experience with unknown baseband and ee4 update is that it wouldn't update to ee4 because it couldn't find an ltemodem to patch. I don't think the update is just going to insert the baseband because it can't find the original.

I'm back on my Incredible in the meantime. Can't believe how small it is!

Its posted in development. If it were me I would odin to ed1 and try and apply that zip in stock recovery. Either it will work or it won't. Don't cost nuthin.

In the process of doing this, I bricked my phone even more. When I try to reboot the phone, it says:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-- bootmode=7 from cmdline...
-- Movi_check Start..!!
checksum confirmation need_checksum[0]
Not need checksum confirmation
-- Movi_check already executed!!...
-- movi_checking done!...
#MANUAL MODE #
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Then it boots into recovery. Obviously, this is a good example of why not to root your device unless you have a REALLY good understanding of what you're doing.

I would install ED1 via odin and let it update OTA.

That's what I've been trying to do, but unfortunately, it's not working. Odin is saying it's successfully installed, but when I try to reboot within recovery, it loops me back to the same place within recovery and gives me the message I posted above.

I think at this point I have tried every available package in the dev section. Unfortunately, though the all get me a "working" phone I still have the unkown baseband and thus am unable to find a wireless signal. This prohibits me from get and OTA when at ed1.

Well just now a FULL ODIN ED2 package was posted at rootzwiki http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?481-LEAK-STOCK-ED2-Droid-Charge-FULL-ODIN!&p=5957#post5957
If anyone wants to try this to see if it is legit. I figured it would be one of you who is stuck. This "should" fix your problems and put you on stock ED2. And it would be a safety net for everyone else. It nearly impossible to brick your phone if there is a full odin.
Good luck.

UPDATE:
It didn't work. Got an error message in Odin that says MD5 hash value invalid

Potentially bricked Charge?

Can anyone help please? I was running stock ED1 and decided to update to EE4. I put Voodoo lagfix on, then flashed the EE4 update that was in the general forum through recovery as an update.zip. It stopped about halfway through for some reason, leaving me with an "unknown" baseband and thus, no way to get a signal. All attempts to flash different radio updates failed. So, I decided to flash everything over. I flashed the stock ED1 through Odin, but it keeps saying the MD5 checksum is invalid, so I flashed Altered Beast. This got me clockword mod, but still no baseband. Finally, I tried to flashed debloated EE4 through clockword and now, I'm stuck at the Samsung screen, with no way to get into recovery. Any suggestions for my noobness? :/ I can still get it to connect to Odin.
Ok, quick update. I got Altered Beast reflashed. CWM is still on there. I'd like to get back to stock, ED1, ED2, EE4; I don't care which, as long as I have a working baseband. Suggestions?
try redownlolading ed1 because the md5 has to do with the file itself not the phone. Then connect to wifi and update to ed2. after, try flashing the update .zip thats from the forums while you are stock, no custom recovery or anything other than root ed2. if none of this works, then you probably burnt out your sim card like i did accidentaly by activating my old droid x. so if you did burn the sim card, go to best buy or verizon or the costco wireless booth and have them activate a new sim card for you. this happened to me where i couldnt get data or anything and i got a new sim card and pow! it worked. try my initial instructions first. and make sure you are using the PDA button in odin

whenever you flash an update you need to be completely stock thats including the kernel
i would disable lag fix then flash ED1 downgrade and try to update if it doesnt let you i would unroot and bring your phone into VZW tell them the update failed and left you with unknown baseband.
you may be a good test subject to try out his idea on flashing a radio , if he is there yet
also you posted in the wrong section

i've done that three times today. i think something else is going on
I would suggest reinstalling the Samsung drivers for the Charge, then open Odin, use a different USB port and try again. I had a lot of issues with flash ED1 and one of the ways I found worked around this (for me) was to make sure the drivers were messed up.

MD5 mismatch happens when a file is corrupt or not fully complete
ok, good news (sort of). the md5 mismatch was being caused by the way chrome was naming the multiple instances of the download. I renamed the file and got back to stock ED1. still no signal, but i got the pop up saying i had a system update waiting, i just have to wait for the battery to charge a bit. I'll check back in soon. in the meantime, thanks for all the help and patience everyone.

wait i thought if you wanted to flash to stock you want the Voodoo lagfix off? i think your problem might be that your flashing non voodoo kernals to a system that has voodoo on i dont think you should do that, try flashing a voodoo kernal maybe instead of the stock stuff

EE4 Being Pushed to Phone =Safe?

I am running the rollback Odin root to ED1 / edited build.prop .... EE4 system update is sitting here wanting to be installed. Anyone know if it is gonna kill the root I have ??
It will keep root. Make sure you undo lag fix if you installed new kernel.

I don't recall mine keeping root. I just flashed CWR (odin), PBJ kernel (cwr), and debloated EE4 (cwr) after anyways. No wipe is necessary.
This way you get the radio update, EE4, back to rooted, and debloated.

why are you posting the same exact questions twice?
Well sir if you MUST know, I will explain why this is posted as a stand alone question as well as at the bottom of the 'stock rooted ed1 odin' thread in development. I do this just because I am such a nice S.O.B. .... I edited the build.prop last night as was being discussed in THAT thread. When I re-booted a couple of times I was still getting the update notification and I thought it was still the ED2 trying to be pushed to the phone so I posed the question of why the build.prop edit didn't take. I then noticed that it wasn't the ED2 update at all but EE4 was being pushed to the phone. So I went back in and edited the post to refelct the same, since I was unable to delete it. Now, since this was a new question and it was likely that it would get lost at the end of a 13 page week+ old post, I also posted it as its own question in the general forum where it belongs...
FEEL BETTER NOW ??

*sigh* ... LOL ... I tried to accept the EE4 and it came back as can't download now try again later. I go into phone and try to check for updates and it says phone is up to date. I'm thinkin due to the build.prop edit and stuff not matching in phone? Baseband version still says ed1 but build says ed2 in about phone listings. It started the download then kicked out immediately and rebooted when I tried to accept ee4 push.
I was able to ODIN this back to ED1 originally. Recovered from a brick the other night (many thanx to droidXcon !!) But I have never used cwr and am a flashing noob so to speak. I am assuming the directions and all downloads are around here if I research it? I am leery of the cwm/cwr stuff as I've seen so many peeps having issues stuck in boot loops and such.
Any help/advice appreciated.
I went back into build.prop and changed everything back to ED1. Phone now shows baseband and build as ED1 again and EE4 is trying to be pushed to the phone again. Looks like I can take the OTA update now and am assuming I will lose root? I have to learn how to use cwm. I downloaded the imnuts cwm this morning, is it as simple as istalling that via ODIN since it is a tar file? Then it will just be a matter of doing the research to figure out how to install stuff via cwm to have a rooted EE4?
Edit: nope ... still wouldn't take the ee4 update. Go to accept it, phone shuts down, get the download image, yellow progress bar makes it about 20% of the way across and phone reboots.

I just upgraded my rooted ed1. The apps I had frozen are still frozen but I lost root.
Okay, I am at what I would consider a stock EE4 build. I did lose root.
So now I need to learn the easiest way to root to an EE4. I have not used cwm yet so I reckon I better learn!! Read the how to once thru. I did try just going into stock samsung recover holding volume/power/home and I did get into that.
So ... I have downloaded the imnuts cwm. Do I install that tar file and it is going to replace the stock recovery?
It now seems as though I am unable to enter stock recovery since I took the ee4? I was able to do this prior to the update. Do I proceed with flashing imnuts cwm and go from there?
Edit: I can get to stock recovery afterall
Also, I see references to some adb pushing in the cwm thread and I am ignorant of adb as well. I need to find a how to thread on all of this !! Is the adb another form of access to the phone that needs to be used in conjunction with cwm?
Edit: I flashed the New_CWM_Recovery.tar.md5 file via ODIN and I got the blue 'reset' in oding and the the green 'pass' ... I go thru the process to enter recovery mode and the menu looks the same with no added options? I have Android system recovery <3e> but now it is blue .... I think I better wait at this point for guidance.
Any Help Appreciated I need ee4 root !!

No, I was using the Samsung PST software. It downloads the software to 100%, then an error dialogue box pops up.
I have the "unknown baseband" problem, and I think it's failing right at the very end as it's trying to flash the modems.

In a nut shell, YES. Once you get yourself to an ED1 or ED2 stock or rooted state, you should then be able to accept the OTA EE4 update which will update your radio. Just make sure you are not on a custom rom when you update. So, stock rooted ED1 or ED2, then update. Just apply the OTA, then your favorite root kernel. If you want a custom rom, pick one that is made for the EE4 update. However, you will not lose the radio/baseband update as the custom roms and kernel's don't touch the radio area.
Good luck!!

Did you take Sim Card out? Heres i what i did.
as soon as i put the phone in download mode ( you know yellow triangle?) i inserted the battery, make sure its fully charged and make sure you take the sim card out. So i inserted the battery back in and pressed the button to start flashing the ED1 file. I tried to flash the ED2 thats on the list but that file is borken i think.
Please continue this discussion in the thread linked in Post #1 so that everything is in one place.

Is this possible to fix?

Back on September 14th I downloaded that 14 Mb update. Since then I've flashed many times between stock, special ROMs, and of course the Gingerbread leaks. Well, my current issue is that I'm stuck on UCKE3 which is the newest I could find (the one from early June.) So far I have had no luck re-updating my phone to UCKH1 from the 14th. I'm getting the constant, "Your phone is up to date. You may check back in 24 hr and 24 min" message. This is very frusterating to me since when I'm on stock I like to have to latest official updates. Anyone have any idea what's causing this? I've asked a similar question in the Q&A thread, but some kid gave me nothing but a link to GTG's modem collection which is not what I really needed and threw a whole you better thank me for helping you thing in my face, so I prefer to check in here.
I assume you're referring to gtg's "Return to stock" UCKE3? If you actually want to be stock, that's the one to go with. That OTA Update really doesn't gain you much value, except for possibly the KI3 modem (which of course you know you can install yourself, no thanks necessary )
Now for your actual question: I don't have a definitive answer for you, but a good guess that "Return to stock" may not be 100% stock. Obviously it's rooted, but there may be something else (don't know what) that might be just different enough that AT&T's firmware update utility no longer recognizes your ROM as a candidate for updates.
Sorry that's not a very solid answer, but if I were you I wouldn't sweat this particular update anyway.
I had the same problem. What I did was return to stock using gtg's unbrick then after the phone booted I did a factory reset from the settings menu. I was able to get the update installed after that. Just back up your SD cards if you try this.

Big thanks to insanity213 for hosting the files for me (would cause too much BW on my server).
Now everyone can stop using Odin!!!
NOTE:: The EI22 package does not include the ei22 modem.
Also, there are no bootloaders in these packages, so I do not think you should ever re-partition with these.

THIS.
(ODIN sucks)
I never could get heimdal to recognize the epic when plugged into my imac although I haven't tried with lion. Supposedly this there was a secondary boot loader bug that got fixed on most galaxy s variants with froyo but we epic owners never got it. Works great on my PC though.

I've got a late 2006 24" iMac kickin around the basement. I'll fire it up later on tonight and see if I can get it to roll.
so teh ei22 package will give a stock install, with no mods at all? and the modem is not included?

^ this.
Just a name, and FYI the pit was ripped from my phone with Heimdall.

Are these files rooted or all they get rid of my root. I'm looking to go back to stock actually, so unrooted is preferable.
Also, is this Mac compatible?

I've not once been able to get Heimdall to work on my windows xp machine, any suggestions?
Is this deodexed I'm looking for a stock rooted deodexed tar

So I'm running the deodexed "mostly stock" rom, and need to bring phone in for repair. Sorry, but I can't find a ton of info on Heimdall, and I just want to get stock rom and bootloader back on there before I get it fixed and get a new phone next month. So if I get into download mode, load up the SPH-D700_ripped_stock_EI22.tar file, and hit Flash > Start, then I'm good to go? Thanks to anyone who can help!

They are not modified, so no, not deodexed.

The bootloaders are not contained in these packages.
I doubt your bootloaders have been changed though, to my understanding they haven't changed in a while (or ever).
The only other thing would be the modem...
I need to add the EC05 modem to the EI22 package, so it is a nice and easy to flash the delta update zip in cwm to get updated.

I meant recovery, not bootloader. This should replace CWM with stock I'd imagine. I already have EI22 modem, wouldn't I want to keep that?

Yes it includes the stock recovery.
And yes you would want to keep the EI22 modem (since you already have it).

Thank you for this. I finally got around to un-rooting / returning my wife's phone to stock. Now I can take it into the Sprint store. This should be the default method to return rooted phone to stock in the wiki, as it is quite easy if you follow the Heimdall instructions.
Can this be used to go back to BML from MTD instead of Odin? I'm guessing not since we can't repartition but wanted to make sure.
