[Q] noobish question regarding CM7 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having trouble finding a straight answer via Search.
I'm running stable CM7 (2.3.3), but I want to start using the CM7 nightlies (2.3.4) in order to use google talk video.
Can I just flash the latest nightly and gapps on top of CM7 stable?
Or do I need to wipe anything (and if so what do I need to wipe) ?
I have everything set up perfectly, so I'm not looking forward to having to wipe anything if I don't have to.
How about going from nightly to nightly?

I just did this on my fiancées EVO. I just wiped cache and dalvik and flashed the latest nightly (not even gapps) and it runs like a dream.

Thanks, I guess I give it a go.
The other issue I'm having is finding which gapps package to flash that will have working Gtalk video. I think this is it (link below), but if someone could confirm, that would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Looks like the answer is yes from another thread.
Also I wiped cache and dalvik, flashed the nightly and the gapps, and all is working swell.

[Q] CM7/Rom Manager Premium doesn't show Nightlies?

Isn't it supposed to at least show the most current nightly or am I using it wrong?
I have premium Rom Manager.
Will it not show the nightly I am currently running?
Actually rm will always be behind one or two builds, if u want the latest get it from here...
G2X
i had the same problem, i actually saw it once... then it disappeared.. weird.
So instead I copied the zip file to my sd card, then hit the button Reboot into recovery from inside Rom manager and did it that way. Works like a champ
So each time you want to install a nightly, you have to wipe data, cache, etc thus losing apps, etc. ? I know there's titanium backup, but just seems like a lot of work to continually have to go thru the setup process again.
You don't have to wipe every night. You only have to wipe if you change roms. CM7 to CM7 doesn't require a wipe.
Just like Stock to roms that are based off stock. You can flash EagleBlood right over stock, reboot and not have to setup a thing.
I only see 1 nightly.

[Q] CM7

Howdy. I am about to install CM7. I looked in the downloads and am wondering which nightly I should download? Is the newest one stable or is there another that is stable. The file sizes are all around 92.7mb. Is this the entire MOD or is there a base that I need to install? I know these are noob questions....but I'm a noob to the droid scene. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Install latest nightly using CWM. Make sure you flashed CWM using NVflash.
That nightly is the actual ROM and only thing you need to flash separately is the goggle apps, which are called gapps

Thank you. I already rooted and flashed CWM on my phone itself. How would I go about the google apps. In other words, where do I download them and do I install them in the same way from my SD card? Tanks again and sorry for all of the questions.
Google Apps aka GAPPS is also found in the same post as the CM7 nightly.
Factory Reset>Flash CM7>Flash GAPPS>Reboot>Enjoy
Google asked Cyanogen not to include the Google Apps in this roms, so you have to manually install them after you flash his roms.
Once you get up in a good working CM7 rom, download Rom Manager and use it to download roms/Gapps in the future.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Format /system (found in mounts and storage)*
Wipe Dalvik Cache (found in Advanced)
Wipe Battery Stats*
Install latest nightly
Install Google Apps
Install whatever kernel you want, or just skip to use stock
Reboot
Entries marked with a * are not necessary but reduce the chance of something going wrong.
I'm on the latest nightly (78) and it's awesome.
Only jumped to CM a few days ago (from EB FR 1.05) and it's waaaaay better.

Latest morfic will not work with cm7 stable you need older kernel.
May i suggest flashing latest cm7 kang, its very stable and newest additions, and you can flash latest morfic kernel.
Go to development section look for baldwinguy77 thread and get latest cm7 nightly kang, wipe, flash then wipe cache/dalvik and flash morfic latest.

That's what they are, the bot to upload the nightlies to CMs site has been down since mid november, probably because he is working on CM9. But the kang just adds the latest nightly features, was just updated a few days ago too.

[Q] Xoom 4G EOS ICS 4.0.3 Nightly #25 Questions

Hi All... Familiar with the basics of rooting/ROMs... I've upgraded my GB 3.2.4 Xoom 4G to the EOS ICS 4.0.3 Nightly #25 a couple of nights ago, and DANG.... impressive stuff! I'm absolutely loving it!
I had a quick question on what the preferred way is of keeping up-to-date with these nightlies? Is it acceptable to just apply a new nightly upgrade from CWM directly ontop of the ROM itself? Do I have to do any wiping of cache beforehand? Also, I was reading you have to reapply the GApps 10.3 afterwards? Can that be done at the same time (one after the other) in CWM?
Does this have any effect on apps that are installed, or email accounts that are already configured?
Thanks much in advance!

You normally wouldn't need to wipe, unless they have a new version of gapps which you would have to flash.

Thank you... just to followup... so if a new nightly comes out, I can just apply it through recovery without doing anything else... but if a new version of gapps comes out, then I have to go through the process of backing up my stuff with titanium backup, go into recovery, wipe data/cache/factory reset, install the nightly and the new gapps, then restore my apps? Sounds painful just for gapps... why doesn't it play nice by just overinstalling it ontop of an older version?

[Q] Latest gapps not installing on latest cyanogenmod

I've been updating Cyanogenmod with the Nightlies. Since the March updates, I've not been able to install gapps, even with the newest version. I've Googled on this, and I've tried everything I could find. I've made sure I had the latest version of gapps, I've wiped the cache and the Dalvik cache, and I've mounted the system partition before installing the zip. I've even done a factory reset. At one point, I was so far gone with all the different things I was trying that I had to revert back to a stock setup.
When I install the gapps zip file in Clockworkmod, everything looks fine. No errors or anything. It goes through the install process, and it completes, but when I reboot, I have no Google Apps installed.
I have a 4g Xoom (Verizon).
The different CWM versions I've had this issue with have been:
cm-10.1-20130309-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
cm-10.1-20130315-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
The latest gapps version I've been trying to install is:
gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Thank you.
I have xoom wifi. the version of gapps I have is:
gapps-unified-jb-20130220-signed.zip
it should be somewhere in the portal as that's where I downloaded from. see it may work for you too.

Not sure if this is an option for you, but have you tried running gapps-jb-20130105-EOS-XOOM-ONLY.zip?

I did try this, just for the sake of trying something as I am having the same issues as the OP.
I flashed the latest nightly cm-10.1-20130330-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip on my Xoom and then tried the EOS version of GApps. It just bootlooped numerous times. I flashed the ROM, then flashed GApps. I cleared cache/data/dalvik with no luck, it just brought me back to recovery.
Any ideas? I know it is a nightly, so I am not too worried about it. I am just playing around.
You should try the new unified gapps for Cm, the link is listed in the OP of the cm 10.1 thread. Also, if you are using cwm recovery, try twrp. Your recovery could be causing issues

Thanks! I will give that a try when I get home. Went straight to the CyanogenMod site to get GApps so I missed that.
Well, I made a very simple mistake. I only read the directions partially, assuming everything would work like flashing my phone or Nexus 7. I wiped data, wiped dalvik, installed the ROM and then installed GApps. I booted my Xoom and of coarse, even with the unified version of GApps, it still did not work.
I repeated the process but did not install GApps. I let the device boot and then went back in to recovery. I flashed GApps and rebooted and it works perfectly. I did not try another version of GApps this time.
Lesson learned.

Download Google appstore zip file by itself.. After flashing gapps, flash the appstore by itself as well.. Worked for me
Latest Nightly issue Camera+Gallery
I'm using the 20130609 nightly in my Everest, but re-flashing the Unified Apps from CM 10.1 official thread doesn't work. On the 20130601 nightly it works like a charm!.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.s: As an advice, I tried formatting system partition in CWM, reinstall nightly and gapps. All works fine now!
