[Q] USB file transfer speed! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Bought my TF today and iam an android user for long time..so rooted it...installed prime rom on it..Is it me or when I try to connect to USB to PC.. it connects as a media player and shows storage..fine but the speed in unbelievebly slow! Like for a 300 mb file taking me 40 mins?!! Is it same for all of you guys? If Iam doing something wrong...please guide me!!
Thanks

Soundslike you are transferring at USB1.0 speeds. I believe the TF can transfer at USB3.0 speeds. As an example, I copied 3 full length movies around 800Mbytes each in less than 15minutes. Try a different port or computer

Exactly!! thats why wondering! While I can copy stuffs to micro SD card pretty fast...whenever iam trying to copy something to internal storage its soooooooooo slow!! What am I doing wrong? Is it may be a rom problem? :S

It's likely, like the other post said, that you're plugged in to a USB1.0 port. Connect to a different USB port; a faster USB port. USB 2.0 or 3.0

I just did some transfers today, 1.34 gb one file took about 5 mins or so but I had some files that went slow mo so I disconnected the usb cable then plugged it back it and got the higher speed again.
The stupid Asus sync on the tablet was always on the taskbar.
BTW does any know how u transfers files directly to the microSD with the USB cable, I had to copy to tablet then move it over to Sd card?

I did change my ports...but no help...Nd for your question...inside the internal storage you will see there is a folder called Micro SD.....Agh this slow speed is really frustrating!! lol

I hate to say it, but try a different computer and see if the speed stays as slow. A newer computer? Just confirm it isn't your hardware!

Yup will try that tomm... lets see.. :S Dont want to return it....

You could try getting an SDCard reader for your PC. There are USB adapaters that take microSDs. Then you can copy direct to the microSD without going through the USB cable at all
EDIT: For example: http://www.staples.com/SanDisk-Mobi...gy:Accessories_&_Memory:814084:SDDRK-121-A11M

Mate the the thing is that when I copy something to Micro SD its pretty good and fast but when ever its the internal storage..It takes agess!! :S

Well I had SE w960i.. it transferred 1GB in less than 3 minutes through USB. But it had a internal memory.. So the speed difference?

By the way... How do I access TF's internal storage by USB cable? It doesn't shows as connected removable device at all. Can connect with asus sync though, and I've installed some drivers for it also, but somehow I can't copy files directly to TF... Maybe I'm missing some drivers anyway.

Hey there folks,
I'm experiencing the same problem actually - horrendously slow transfer rates to the internal memory of the device.
I've tried both my Laptop and my Desktop, each with USB 2.0 ports, but each connection gives me the lovely Window error message "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a USB 2.0 Host..." etc., etc. Anyone have a similar issue? Could this be a driver issue on both machines? Am I just doing something incredibly wrong?
I'm running KRAKD 1.5.2, and would really like to transfer my music over to this thing in less than 3 hours =( Any help is greatly appreciated!

Extremely slow transfers from PC over USB & Incorrect folder views

Hey all, googling hasn't yielded me many results but I have a couple of issues:
Connect tablet from dock to PC over USB. Doesn't come up as MTP which has to be safely removed but just as a sync device if you know what I mean. Anyhoo takes ages to transfer files from PC to Internal memory of the tablet. Talking like 10 minutes for 300mb.
Second issue is it shows folders which are under other folders under the root of Transfomer 700 on PC
eg I have folders like Music/Pearl Jam/Ten
When I connect to PC it shows the Ten folder under the root folder not under Music/Ten
Weird.. on current firmware. Rooted and have USB debugging turned off when connected to PC as I find having it enabled doesn't show the device at all.
In settings/Storage have option USB computer connection set to MTP mode
Thanks

I believe what you are encountering is the infamous I/O issue. Most likely hardware limitation of the internal storage used in infinity. This may potentially improve some degree with software update, but won't be completely eliminated.
As I have not transferred file to internal storage for a long time (I like to keep internal storage clean) so this is more of a subjective opinion, but I feel like transferring to microsd on the unit (I use San Disk UHS 32GB) is actually equivalent or faster than the transferring to my iPad 2. So have you tried to copy to microSD instead of internal storage?

Same here, using a Windows PC. It's actually even so that some folders simply do not show up at all - whether they were there already or newly created. Dis- and reconnecting the cable changes nothing. Permissions are ok/equal to the folders showing. And: some folders and/or their contents I can't even copy at all, the progress window simply disappears and nothing happens. I have not found a solution yet.
Having been fed up by the fact that I simply couldn't copy the contents of my internal SD storage for backup I connected to Wifi and copied the contents that way. THAT worked amazingly fast. Yet, that of course only works if you can connect the tab via Wifi to whatever target you want to send the files to... I did so via my router. I didn't even bother to try if I could do a direct Wifi connection between the tab and my Laptop - which in theory should work too, I guess?
Can't say I've tried copying direct from PC to Tablet but I've copied a number of movies using USB and they've been pretty quick - I didn't time it or pay much attention but a couple of minutes for 1GB movie sounds about right. Hope this helps you!

Copy from one USB-device to another with Asus Infinity

Hello,
New to Android and new to this forum. I have my TF700T two weeks now and I'm glad I bought it. My target is to copy the content of my Compact Flash cards (16GB each - from my DSLR) to a portable hard drive. Therefore I tried to connect both a card reader and a portable hard drive via an auto-powered USB-hub to the only usb-connection of my tablet. I even tried with another hub and even with a third hub. The only result was that my tablet only found the first device that was connected (regardless wich one: the CF-card or the HD) with the hub and not both at the same time, so copying from the CF-card to the drive isn't possible in one step. Sure I can copy the CF-card to the internal memory of the tablet and in a second pass move it to the HD, but that is very time-consuming.
Anyone who knows how to connect more then one usb-device at the same time via a powered USB-hub and do a file transfer between them? Your help is greatly appriciated.
You can use wi fi transfer to do it with a file manager, like file expert.

@tbtaf: When on vacation or on a photo trip I only have that portable hd, my tablet and a powered usb hub. I think a Wifi appraoch is not applicable then. Or am I missing something?
Sounds like you need to setup a second mount point for the additional device - don't know if that can actually be done or not, but I do know that some people who could not even connect the first device were able to manually specify the device by mounting it in a terminal window.
I'm not sure 100% on the code, but let me try to find out.
Or you could copy the 16 Gb CF card onto the pad's internal memory (or external MicroSD card), disconnect it, connect the HD and then copy it out again.

He already mentioned, he doesn't want to do this, he wants to copy straight.
For now, it's not possible since the powered hub or non power hub unable to recognize 2 devices at the same time.
CF, now there's nostalgia if anything. I thought those became outdated over 3 years ago... Fact is the CF is hardly compatible with mobile devices these days.
No, you can't copy from an external cardreader directly onto an external HDD through your tablet. It can only read 1 storage device in the USB port. Multiple devices works, but multiple storages doesn't. Some people have had some success with USB Flashdrives/Pendrives instead of HDD's though. You could try that.
You can copy from an SD to HDD easily though, so you could consider using an SD with a CF adapter if your camera has no SD slot. (SD's have the added advantage that the pins can't bent.)

One S USB mounting problem

Hi all,
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I have looked and cant find anything.
My One S is Jelly Bean 4.0.1 (un-rooted)
The problem I have is basically this.
I have a Micro-B Usb Otg On The Go Cable and Integral MicroSD USB Card Reader with a 32gb Micro SD.
When I first put all this together and plugged into the USB slot of the phone everything was fine, the little red light on the Integral MicroSD USB Card Reader was lit up. The message of Unable To Charge Device was coming up but the phone was also mounting the storage for reading via Astro File Manager no problem, so I was able to play MP3's and 4's and so on. But then it literally just stopped reading the Micro SD card and the Micro USB Card Reader is not lighting up at all.
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am at a lost as to why it would be working perfectly one second and then not another.
Thanks you.
Follow up.
Been doing a little bit more looking into this and it looks like it has to do with USB hosting. Is there any reason my phone would just stop hosting a OTG USB Flash Drive? As i mentioned before it work fine for a while and literally just stopped recognizing that there was any Mini Sd attached.

You seem to be stock so not sure what's up with that but could try factory reset in the bootloader has long has you haven't changed recovery but backup what's on the SD Card because that will get wiped too.

Thanks Darknites,
I have reset hard from the settings menu, does it make a difference if i reset from bootloader? I have downloaded USB Host Controller and look at what results I get from running that and I get the SC3 USB Host Driver Not Found which I believe is something to do with the chip set which doesnt apply to my phone but I also get the message of USB Root Hub Present but I also get Not Present sometimes when re-running and the same with USB Host Mode is Active and then sometimes Not Active after re-running the Host Controller App.
I did read somewhere that its possible that certain chip/chips might have been damaged/fried by an extended use of USB Hosting to a flash drive, is this correct?
Thanks again for the reply.

I havnt heard of that in YEARS, and even that was in most cases a false rumor. I have never encountered a chip dying by being used properly.
If you short-circut the cables or something - then yeah, thats a different story.

Ya in bootloader everything gets wiped even sd.
I did cross my mind re the cable because the drives are fine in my PC, I know they are powered there though. I might try another OTG cable, there cheap as. Its just strange that one minute the Micro SD drive was working perfectly and then kaput.

[Q]Really slow usb transfer speed!

Hi,
today, I found out, that transfering files via usb is so slow on my device.
I've got sd card class 10 (and also tried out some other cards which had the same issue, so perhaps the problem is not there)
I also tried to transfer some files to internal usb storage and it didnt aproved any upturn. Neither did different cable.
Transfering 3,5 GB card takes about 16 minutes,
using mtp, rooted Galaxy Beam I8530.
I am vanilla user, but I think it should be faster.
Any types for improving transfering speed or is there any other problem which needs to be solved?
Thanks in advance
The issue is not your sd card, but the USB interface itself is very slow. There isn't much you can do other than using a different interface. If you have a card reader on your computer, you can take out the sd card and put it into there to see if it will read faster.

transfer 250gb

Good morning.
How to transfer all my pictures and videos from OP7 Pro to external HDD or at least into PC in reasonable time...? Via cable is going veeeeery long same as WiFi way.... Any advices or previous experiences?
Cable is giving me error after few hours..
Kind regards
Artur
WIFI or USB, choose one of them. USB 3 is actually pretty fast
USB C would be much faster than WiFi, get a better cable and/or interface for it.
I'm not sure if it suits you or not to compress the files on phone before transferring it, it makes the read from phone storage and write to HDD process a lot faster and by the way it keeps files chronically ordered when extracted.
I always use this trick for backing up my phone data but it's not perfect when transferring from HDD to phone storage because it's limited to 4 gb for a file, so I make a split 4 gb RAR files then transfer them to phone storage and use RAR apk to extract them.
The problem is ... that I have oryginall OP7Pro Cable which came with phone... I also have updated drivers + drivers for OP phone and this combination doesnt benefits me... Im Running our of empty space thats why im forced to ask for some live hacks
Use a usb c 3.1 cable if your pc has type c port, it's a lot faster than the stock 2.0 cable transfers, like 5-10 times faster

Nop,it just has a type c port but it is 2.0,I don't know which cable you got but I got only 2.0,it has only 4 lanes,2 for data transfer.
you surprised me right now... I thought that all usb C are 3.0 as this is standard for them... Yes my PC has usb 3.0. And I tried today one more time and it copied 190gb out of 250gb and there was no error on the screen...

You could backup your photos and videos to Google photos then free up the space in your phone
Transfer using usb 3 port
I would have cut and paste. That way when it fails, only the non copied files are left and you can begin it again without starting over.
I never had a reliable connection with direct cable Copy and paste. I usually go with FTP(filezilla + Solid explorer FTP) for stable copying of files. Speed is also very good.
KEep in mind to keep the screen on for 30 min.. sometimes the connections breaks if the screen goes off..
Use Oneplus switch to create a backup, this will put everything into one folder, the compress the folder into a single zip file. This will at least fix the issue error mid transfer.
Just upload it some where much better. Then download when pc....
