[Huawei IDEOS U8150] How to gain root access

I hold no responsibility to how you use or not use this info and if you brick phone - you do this at your own risk
There is a couple away you can go about gaining root access with this phone I have tested all 3 ways but only had success with 2 of them.
a) You can download 'z4root' from the Android Market (If is still available) or search XDA forums for it.
b) Search the XDA forums for 'SuperOneClick' which requires mono to work on Linux. I have read people that have had success with 'SuperOneClick' but that was not the case for me.
c) My preferred method:
Prerequisite:
knowledge of Linux and Terminal
knowledge of ADB (guide available in forums)
I did all this using Debian (testing) 64bit, Android SDK.
Creating correct permissions to access the phone via USB:
i) create
Code:
/etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
ii) in the file put
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="12d1", MODE="0666"
iii) then
Code:
chmod a+r /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
iv) restart udev or reboot
Downloading and/or Installing required software:
1) Downloading and installing the android-sdk from: developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2) Downloading and extracting 'SuperOneClick' (you will only need these 5 files: rageagainstthecage, sqlite3, su, busybox and superuser.apk)
3) Copy rageagainstthecage, sqlite3, su, busybox and superuser.apk into the platform-tools directory of android-sdk. Put phone in debug mode.
4) From a terminal (command line) change to the android/platform-tools directory and carefully do these steps.
Check to see if adb can see your phone properly:
Code:
./adb devices
You should see the serial number of you device, if you see bunch of '?' you have done something wrong.
Now for the fun part rooting the phone: <= no phun intended hehe
Code:
./adb push rageagainstthecage /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage
Code:
./adb shell
Code:
cd /data/local/tmp
Code:
chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage
Code:
./rageagainstthecage
5) Now wait until you get kicked out from adb before you do the following:
Code:
./adb shell
If everything worked now you should see a "#" instead of the "$" you saw previously in the adb shell which means you shouldn't get "permission denied" in the following steps:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mdtblock4 /system
Code:
exit
Code:
./adb push su /system/bin/su
Code:
./adb push busybox /system/bin/busybox
Code:
./adb push sqlite3 /system/bin/sqlite3
Code:
./adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
Code:
./adb shell
Code:
cd /system/bin
Code:
chmod 4755 su
Code:
chmod 4755 busybox
Code:
chmod 4755 sqlite3
Code:
./adb reboot
Now you should be able to use apps like 'Cache Cleaner NG', 'Root Explorer', 'SetCPU' etc that require root access to work correctly.

Because I have tried 100 things downloaded all that junk wasted 5 hours.
And I do not know how to run the z4root on my phone.
I do not want to install another ROM.
I do not know why you can not run z4root and a file manager from the SD card I have tried methods with the SDK they are total rubbish.
Once again *without* using the market place.

Hi thanks downloaded it fine its on the phone but this doesn't tell me how to remove apps.
I have been able to install but not remove adb always says failure.
Thanks man,
Just worked perfectly on my IDEOS brought from 2degrees in NZ.
The copy of SuperOneClick that I downloaded contained a file called su-v2 instead of su. In order to get the hack to work I had to rename su-v2 to su before running ./rageagainstthecage . Pretty obvious, but it might help someone out.
Thanks

[GUIDE][US 3G ONLY] How To Root Your Xoom From 3.2 Stock [PC & Mac]

**THIS IS FOR US 3G XOOM ONLY**
**DO NOT USE THIS ON WIFI MODEL**
This guide in no way implies or expresses any warranties.
What you choose to do with your equipment is your sole responsibilty.
__________________________________________________ ______________________________________
SUMMARY
You must already be running Honeycomb 3.2 on your Xoom
You will be unlocking your Xoom, if you have not already. This will wipe data so make sure to back everything up that you would like to keep.
You will be unlocking your Xoom, if you have not already. This will wipe data so make sure to back everything up that you would like to keep.
You will be performing steps in ADB. If you are not familiar with this, read HERE first.
You will need Xoom USB drivers and Fastboot
You will need the boot (kernel) partition with rooted stock 3.2 kernel (thanks & credit to, solarnz and p3droid) [see Attachment]
You will need Superuser.apk and su binary to enable functioning root [see Attachment]
**Before you get started, make sure the USB Debugging option is enabled in the Settings. Go to Settings --> Applications --> Development -->USB Debugging**
PROCEDURE
Download and unzip files. Place kernel.img, superuser.apk & su binary in the same place you will open your command window.
Open command window:
Type; adb devices - you should see a long serial number on the screen. If no serial number appears, recheck your adb, sdk & moto usb driver files.
Type; adb reboot bootloader
Type; fastboot oem unlock - and follow the steps on your xoom's screen (You have to accept the terms by pressing the volume down key, and then select 'accept' by pressing the volume up key.)
Allow the xoom to boot up completely and go back into settings and enable USB debugging again.
In the command window on your PC type; adb reboot bootloader - (if xoom does not respond, disconnect from pc and reboot manually by holding vol up + power. then reconnect after fully rebooted)
Type; fastboot flash boot kernel.img
Type; fastboot reboot
Allow the xoom to boot completely - your xoom should be in normal operating mode for the remainder of the process.
In the command window on your PC type; adb remount
Type; adb push su /system/bin
Type; adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
Type; adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
Type; adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
Thats it...your done!! Unplug the xoom and reboot. Your xoom is now stock rooted.
You can now flash ClockworkMod, other kernels and roms. To verify root, download a root user app from the market and run it.
You should be prompted to allow superuser permissions.
Mac Only Procedure
You will need fastboot for mac
Open a terminal (located in the utilities folder)
Navigate to your sdk/platform-tools folder
Type; ./adb devices - (look for the xoom serial number to show its connected.)
Type; ./adb reboot bootloader
Type; chmod 755 fastboot
Type; ./fastboot oem unlock
Type; adb reboot bootloader
Type; ./fastboot flash boot kernel.img
Type; ./fastboot reboot
Type; ./adb remount
Type; ./adb push su /system/bin
Type; ./adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
Type; adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
Type; ./adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
Disconnect and reboot xoom. Download a root app and test.
If you found this helpfull press the THANKS button.

Hi!
Have you had the su binary in the same direstory
From which youve executed the following cmd:
Type; adb push su /system/bin
Because then everything should be fine!

This guide is successfully tested by me.
1. You need a 32 bit OS. (I have used 7 Pro x86).
2. Turn USB debugging ‘ON’ in settings of the tablet.
3. Download Superuser. Then extract the zip file to desktop :\ & you will see 2 folders as “System” and “Meta-INF”.
4. Download the drivers from here. Then connect the tablet & install the drivers using device manager.
5. Download SuperOneClick!. Extract the archive, go to the folder named ADB. Open an elevated command prompt there using this.
6. Continue with the following commands:
Code:
>adb root (you will see a message “adb is already running as a root”)
>adb devices (you should see your device number)
>adb shell (adb shell will run and daemon tool will also run) 7. Now restart the tablet & wait till the home screen appears. Now continue with the following commands:
Code:
>adb shell getprop ro.secure (output should be 0)
>adb shell mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/system /system
>adb push d:\system/bin/su /system/bin/
>adb push d:\system/bin/su /system/_install/bin/
>adb shell chmod 4777 /system/bin/su
>adb shell mount -oremount,ro /dev/block/system /system 8. Exit adb, disconnect the tab, restart it again.
9. Open the new Superuser app just once.
10. Download apks of BusyBox, Google Play & Titanium Backup (Google is your friend!!).
11. Install BusyBox first, then check the rooting status with Titanium Backup. After that, install Google Play.

[WINDOWS][TUT]ADB tutorial, setting up ADB, usefull commands, collecting debug info.

Hi all.
Everyone here on our forum wants to help devs by testing different stuff but devs wants testers to send debug info to them so they can resolve bugs. Notifying bugs without logcats is useless and some users don't know how to collect these debug data.
To collect debug info there is a tool named ADB (Android Debugging Bridge). we r very small community and there are not plenty of sgr users around here so we have to worry about knowledgeable testers. so i m making this basic instructional guide to ADB. about how to set up ADB on windows and some basic usage.
Setting up ADB on windows.
Know this first.
> ADB requires usb drivers. So first of all install kies so that ur pc detects ur phone and ADB can recognise ur phone.
> Android is linux based and in linux commands are case sensitive so while typing these command use propare case otherwise commands won't execute.
> Windows uses back slash [\] and linux uses forward slash [/] so while typing file locations. For location of file in ur pc use back slash and for files in ur phone/sd card use forward slash.
there are two ways to setup adb on ur windows pc.
1 > download the android sdk, it includes the adb
u can download latest android sdk from HERE.
2 > only download adb package, no need of downloading the whole sdk.
look at the end of post to find the zip file of adb package.
now after downloading:
if u have downloaded sdk read this:
> after downloading sdk, extract it to ur desired location.
> after extracting, open that folder and goto "platform-tools" folder.
> now hold the shift key and hit right click in that directory
> click "open command window here"
> u will see command promp, type "adb" in command prompt. if adb executes means u have successfully setup adb on ur windows.
if u r using without sdk:
> just extract the package
> hold shift key, hit right click and choose "open command prompt here"
> type "abd" in command prompt and check if adb executes.
now as we have successfully setup adb lets begin to some basic commands.
first of all connect ur phone using usb cable. make sure u have checked usb debugging in settings>applications>development>check usb debugging.
now open adb as mentioned above and type
Code:
adb devices
u should see
Code:
list of attached devices
xyz device
xyz will be name of ur device, as default it will be some number.
Basic usefull ADB commands
1.
Code:
adb pull
this command can be used copy files from ur device to ur pc.
for eg.
Code:
adb pull /system/app/Camera.apk
this will copy the camera app to the directory where adb is extracted.
if u know the path u can copy anything using this command.
2.
Code:
adb push
this command can be used to push files to ur phone.
type the command, drag and drop the file in command prompt and than type location where u want to push that file and hit enter.
for eg, if i want to push image named android.jpg stored in my C drive.
Code:
adb push C:\android.jpg /sdcard/
this will push that image to sdcard.
sometimes we have to push some packages in specified folders. just type the location after file name.
for eg
Code:
abd push C:\sanim.zip /system/media
3.
Code:
adb install
with help of this command we can install apps to our phone dorectly from pc.
for eg. type "adb install" than leave one space with mouse choose apk file of app u want to install and drag and drop it in command prompt. path of that app will be displayed in command prompt. like this.
Code:
adb install C:\adb\Camera.apk
by executing this command u can install the app u have dragged and dropped in command prompt.
As i have written for windows but these commands can be used on ADB on linux/MacOS as well but i have only mentioned the set-up guide for windows only.

Getting Debug Infos (Logcats)
1. logcat
logcat is a report from android logging system which runs in background from the moment u boot ur phone. and it haves all the info what went wrong with system.
generally we can see logcat by typing
Code:
adb logcat
but that will show the constant data flow so better save it as file so can be sent to dev or u can study it later.
Code:
adb logcat > log.txt
this will store the logcat to directory of adb and collect log in text file.
2. bugreport
Code:
adb bugreport
bug report prints dumpsys, dumpstate, and logcat data to the screen. which can be used for bug reporting.
3. Java Debug Wire Protocol
Code:
adb jdwp
this command prints the list of available JDWP processes on connected device in command prompt.
Logcats On Mobileu can directly generate logcat on ur mobile using Terminal Emulator app, there are many terminal apps in market. CM comes with pre-loaded Terminal Emulator.
some terminal apps:
Android Terminal
Terminal Emulator
RomToolbox
u will need root access to generate logs
open terminal app, u will see following screen
Code:
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$
now type su and hit enter.
allow super user permissions.
now to get a logcat type following command.
Code:
logcat > /mnt/sdcard/logcat.txt
this will generate text file named logcat.txt on root of ur sdcard which is containing logcat.
to get DMESG (Kernel Debug)
open terminal and type following command
Code:
su
dmesg > /mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt
this will generate text file named dmesg.txt on root of ur sdcard which is containing kernel debug log.
Kernel Debugging.
we can use adb to debug kernel issues.
Code:
adb shell
dmesg
this will generate a log which is very helpful to resolve kernel issues, we just have to send this log to dev, he will look after it.
sometimes after flashing kernel we go into bootloop in that cases generate logcat using this commands and send to dev it will be very helpfull for dev to know and resolve reason causing bootloop.
Code:
adb shell
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg
this command should be executed immediately on reboot otherwise it will be over written by new kernel message. the file will be stored on root of ur sdcard named last_kmsg. send this file to kernel dev it will help him great to resolve the problem.
Read this if u dont know how to get files from ur sdcard even if ur phone is not booting and stuck at bootloop.
u must have CWM to do this.
>boot ur phone in recovery mode (by holding VOL UP and HOME key together on boot)
>goto "Mounts and Storage"
>Select "Mount USB Storage" and plug in your data cable.
>Now u can access ur sdcard on ur pc, after ur work is done click "Unmount"

lol if i saw this earlier i might not have unlocked my boot loader today. =) hope someone can try this
I gave this a try earlier today. I scoured through the forum to find that the new Ubuntu doesn't install ADB drivers by default, so you need to do this manually.
Anyway, I attempted to do it and got all the way to ./su. It then prompted me with the message "./su cannot execute - Permission denied". Obviously from there I can't link /mnt to /storage and I can't run pwn because it looks for the /storage folder.
If you have any suggestions how to get ./su running, let me know.

This method works but not all intructions are here.
First, you need to change permissions of su:
chown root:root su
chmod 6755 su
then run adb shell and remount / filesystem ro rw:
mount -o rw,remount /
now you can create symbolic link and run the exploit.
You can also perform rooting manually (without creating symlink and running pwn):
remount /system partition to rw: mount -o rw,remount /system
and copy su to /system/xbin, make sure that it has correct permissions (rwsr-sr-x) and that's it.
Now you can remount partitions back to ro.
Install supersu or superuser (whatever makes you happy, just check if it works correctly, superuser didn't work for me, it didn't prompt about root permission for any app, it just gave it, no matter how configured it was), Then install busybox, if you need one.
And you're done.
YES! Glad I waited!

After download and share fail with samba windows or mac sharing, you need to mount from file manage > remote storage
After fix permission go to adb folder and type :
"adb shell"
"cd /mnt/rfs0"
"./su"
"cd /"
"ln -s /mnt /storage"
Next step go to console and type :
adb kill-server
adb shell /storage/rfs0/pwn
Next : Install apk package from phone , Reboot Phone and now your phone is rooted!
Update from Play Market SuperSu and go.

Thanks, I think this is exactly what I am looking for per this thread. Unfortunately, I don't quite have the knowledge (yet) to completely understand what you mean. I've rooted several phones, but never had to use ADB before so am unfamiliar with it. Also, what do you mean by this: "After download and share fail with samba windows..."?

By reading this link you will know hot to setup samba installation on a UBUNTU live cd. After doing that on your phone you should go to your FILE MANAGER --> remote storage and add the samba share to your phone. On the UBUNTU live cd, on your samba folder you should do this:
Code:
cd /path/to/share
wget http://vulnfactory.org/public/motoshare.tgz
tar xvf motoshare.tgz
sudo chown root:root pwn
sudo chmod 6755 pwn
After that you should put your phone in USB debugging mode and connect it to your PC. On your PC your should download the platform-tools folder of the Android SDK. The platform-tools folder contains adb (MAC) adb.exe (Windows) file. After you have adb, on your WIndows/MAC PC you should type:
Code:
./adb shell
cd /mnt/rfs0
./su
mount -o rw,remount /
cd /
ln -s /mnt /storage
exit (to exit the ADB shell)
adb kill-server
adb shell /storage/rfs0/pwn
Next you should copy eu.chainfire.supersu.apk on your phone storage and install it with file manager.
Reboot your device! Congratulations, your phone is rooted

Wow, thanks for this. I was considering trying to condense down the instructions myself before I did this, but you beat me to it, and did a better job than I would have, considering I'm a novice at this stuff.
So your method uses a linux boot for samba, but then the rest is done on windows. Question: could you do the adb stuff on Linux? Seemed like some of the posts in the atrix threads were doing it that way, and I was just curious. I have mint 14-64 bit on a couple of my machines, as well windows, and was thinking this would be an opportunity to learn it a little better.

Hello,
and what if I have unlocked bootloader? Is there any other way to root this phone?

well that sounds a bit intimidating but thanks for spelling it out. I'll try to work up the nerve and make some time to give this a try.
Just curious, but why can't this be compressed into a one click batch file like before?

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can easily root. You don't need any exploits etc.
Install TWRP, it will automatically root the device. Or, install CWM and then install SuperSU afterwards, which will root the device.

Can you share what you did? Instructions seem to say that I need to install GooManager? The summary of GooManager says I need root to use it. TIA.

I like TWRP but CWM in my opinion is better (more supported).

Yes. This can be done in Linux. I did it entirely with a LIVE USB. However, adb might not be installed by default (on mine it was not). To install it, do the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot

This will prevent you from running into errors when you start typing: adb shell

Either use GooManager or the fastboot flash method. I think you do need to be rooted in order for GooManager to get the permissions it requires to flash recovery... So in that case, the only way initially to flash might be fastboot flash... Sorry.

Not even sure what this means. Any zip you can flash with CWM, you should be able to flash with TWRP. No?
They're both recoveries. One is touch-based, one isn't.
Having trouble with abd
Im running Ubuntu 12.04 full install (not live CD)
When I connect my phone, dmesg see the new device, and so does lsusb
dmesg
Code:
[ 290.617377] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 2
[ 295.476023] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd
[ 295.611624] scsi9 : usb-storage 2-1:1.0
[ 296.610626] scsi 9:0:0:0: Direct-Access motorola XT897 0001 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[ 296.611152] sd 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
[ 296.613548] sd 9:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
lsusb:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 22b8:2e36 Motorola PCS
However no matter what, when I run "adb devices", the phone does not show up.
51-android.rules
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="22b8", MODE="0666"
This is what I get with adb
Code:
[email protected]:/tmp/share# adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
[email protected]:/tmp/share#
What else can I do???

I am trying to run through these steps. For starters, when I enter the 'adp shell' I do not have a /mnt/rfs0 directory. The shared samba directory actually mounts at /storage/rfs0. No biggie. I go to that directory to run ./su. The su command runs, and I can see a pop up notification on my phone indicating the adb shell has been granted admin rights. The problem is that the ./su command never returns. As a matter of fact, if I just left it sit there, I get the admin rights pop up notification on my phone about once per minute so it seems like the su command is in some loop.
At this point I am stuck. I cant remount my file system as read/write without SU. I can run the ./su command in a different process, either in another adb shell or with the ./su& command but that does me no good as I cant execute any root commands in that same process.
Is there something that needs to change with the su command for the newer version my phone is running? I am running 9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5.
Thanks.
Use 'motochopper', search for it on xda then root is just one click away
