I'm thinking of buying a Droid 2 Global - Droid 2 Global General

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying one of these phones and I currently have the Droid Incredible. Couple of questions. Is it worth to switch to this has anyone switched to this from an incredible. Is it easy to root. How is the development of rom's here. Any pros or cons would help. There's nothing wrong with my incredible I just get sick of the same phone after awhile but I don't want to downgrade I'd rather upgrade. So if its an upgrade let me know.

49 views and not a reply so I guess this phone is no good or what? I'm just looking for spittle insight from users of this phone. Any reply would help in my decision. I can get 1 for a good deal.

If you want a good quality built phone then go for it. The only issue I had with mine which I did a warranty replacement for was the notification light stopped working. Upon a detailed investigation I determined that it was due to a faulty wire in the phone that caused it to stop working. I only say it's a good build quality as I don't feel like I need a case on my phone unlike my Droid Incredible which I would be scared to leave it naked due to the plastic back and glass corners.
If you want a phone that you can really modify or use in the US on the GSM bands and not be locked to a specific radio and a specific version of the android OS then this is not the phone for you.
Really the locked bootloader is the main reason why this phone did not take off in the community. Black Hat being the exception in this case as they do deliver some awesome work.

Thank you for the response. I am happy with the incredible but like you said it does break easy. I have never gone without a case on this. I do love the development community of the incredible and the ease if root. But I might of lost sight that this is a phone and the different rom's and radios I keep flashing I don't think are helping me.

I'm gonna buy the phone anyway. Even though not sure what your deal is. There's more to a phone than Modding. I meant the overall functionality of the device, reception, speeds, abandonment by manufacture. Who has this phone that's happy they have it. But thank you for your input its been much appreciated.

I have this phone and I love it.
Super easy to root, but there are only a handful of roms out there, but the 2.3 update is pretty close. You might want to invest in the extended battery. The droid 3 is said to be out soon if you want to wait and compare the two phones and see which one you like more.

Would you recommend the Nexus S?

I have the Vibrant now, but Bestbuy has the Nexus S for 100. How do you like your nexus? Anyone here go from the Vibrant to the Nexus?

Keep in mind though that posting here you're going to get quite a biased userbase. People who buy the SNS tend to do so because they're fans of the stock android experience and will put up with a few bugs to have it (none as big as not having working GPS for far too long...).
I came from the vibrant and I'm very pleased so far. stock android is awesome and I've had excellent gps so far. I haven't experienced any of the bugs some people have been having either.
overall a solid phone. I would recommend it for sure.

I came from a vibrant and paid launch price for mine. At that price I have zero regrets and am really happy with the upgrade. At half the price, I wouldn't think twice. Go for it!
i came from iphone 3g, and did a LOT of research for a long time before deciding on the Nexus S. honestly, i love this phone. and a lot of people have asked me about it wanting to know what it is (it's not released in Aus yet).
my opinion may be a bit biased due to the benefits of android (coming from ios), rather than this phone specifically, but hardware wise at least, it feels solid, it performs very well, the screen is awesome, it looks elegant (no branding on the face - a requirement for me). the main hardware downside is that the storage can't be expanded. though i'm used to that, and i can live with 16gb. also the small bump at the back on the bottom may not appeal to some people; i like it though - easiest/fastest way to tell top from bottom on this phone, particularly in the dark, haha.
i would say just go into bestbuy and play with the phone in-store.

MicroSD is not a problem for me and in Engadget's review of the SGS4G they compared its data speed to the Nexus S and found that it was really not much faster. Of course as the 4G tech gets better, the speeds will get faster but by the time it matters you'll most likely be shopping for a new phone.
sd is not a problem for me. I have about 6.5 gb of music and then I use up 1 or 2 more gb for pictures, apps, etc.
4g isn't upsetting for me either. I get about 5 mb download speed in my area on 3g and that's good enough for me. I mainly use wifi for big file downloads.

Sweet. I've been wanting the Nexus since it launched, but told myself to wait for a 4.3 inch android, but at only 100 Idk if I can pass that up. The 4g is not a deal breaker the no microsd slot was.but even now my 16gig micro is not even half full.

Depends what you plan to do with a Nexus S. Do you plan to create apps, or root, or flash a lot of ROMs, load a lot of custom skins and whatnot? If so, then yes. It sounds like a dream come true if you are into that stuff.
However, if you plan to use the NS as is, I would actually not recommend it. I love the Android platform, but I've also been very critical of it for it's, unfortunately, many shortcomings. The vanilla Android OS is chock full of glitches ranging from minor, to annoying, to major problems. It's great that you get direct and timely updates from Google, but I'm discovering more and more that all that means is you're their beta tester. Some people get a kick out of that, and some don't.
Do as much research as you can; like Kenvan mentioned though, you have to keep in mind you're in a Nexus S forum. The feedback will likely be bias and skewed.
And if you haven't actually handled a Nexus S, definitely do so, and spend a lot of time with it. Good luck, have fun.

Coming from a Hero and an Epic 4G, I can say that even with the existing issues, the Nexus S delivers the Android experience I'd been expecting all along. The phone simply feels responsive in a way that OEMs seem to destroy with their crappy add-ons.
If you felt like your Vibrant had no right to be so sluggish with a 1GHz CPU, then go for it. I paid full price for my NS and it was totally worth it. If anything you won't get those stupid battery-full popups or the bleeps when getting/losing a cell signal.
I wouldn't recommend it. And this isn't a "troll-no," as someone so fanboyishly put it.
The phone itself is absolutely gorgeous. I love how light it is and the screen is wonderful. It's funny the hardware was the thing I was worried about most before I purchased and it's ended up being the one thing I really like about the phone.
The software ruins it for me - and many others, I suspect. There are so many little things about it that go wrong that it's a frustrate-fest for me.
Examples?
Downloads from browser/market are unsuccessful 50-75% of the time.
The phone still loses mobile network connection many times. While it doesn't seem to need a full reboot anymore for me, it still requires an Airplane mode on/off to remedy.
I've still had reboots - just last week it rebooted in the middle of the night and got stuck on the boot screen, making me late for work since the alarm didn't go off
Google Voice constantly has a wakelock issue for me. If I don't catch it early in the day it ends up sucking over 25% of my battery. A reboot will fix it. But now, reboots seem to be deleting my widgets.
T-Mobile's service is pretty bad for me - I know it's not really fair to count as a problem, but dropped calls are even worse than when I had the iPhone on ATT. That said, the problem is not so bad when I'm at home and not moving, and the HPSA speeds I get when I have "H" signal are very, very nice.
This is my 4th Android phone - while I love Google and all they do and stand for, I've actually gotten tired of waiting for the perfect Android experience. I thought SNS would be it, being the "Google phone" per se. Many frustrating bugs and glitches have lead up to one very dissapointing experience.
I hate to say it but I'll probably be eyeing the "iPhone 5" come summertime.

Yes for the pure google experience
No due the hardware, there are better hardware on the market already
Yes for the price
No due the contract
...It's your choice to make
The ultimate question you should be asking yourself is
Do you want to FLASH ROMs and Customize the phone with very Nerdy and Geeky codes, not easy for the regular user, that just wants a phone to play with?
if you answer is Yes, then go for it
If you answer is no, not sure, not ready, not really, i don't know
then i'll suggest you to look for another phone

Did your fascinate have the capability to get 20 mpbs uh no. Its the best out of the 4g phones period. Lg phone sucks donkey balls. Tbolt is a dam nice phone love sense wife owns this phone. The battery life sucks azz though 2 /3 hrs tops. The only reason I did not buy that phone. Charge better display than any other lte phone, better battery life as well. Makes it a easy decision.
A very easy decision. Don't know why people talks down to this phone and in a few more weeks we will have so much ROM to make it even better, not that it's needs to be.
It has 550 ram but 220 is dedicated to functions you cant control. The other is for all your apps and system apps

I guess exercise your return policy?
SAMOLED+ > SAMOLED > Super LCD > TFT.
4.3" > 4" > 3.8" > 3.5".
4G/3G/1x > 3G/1x.
8MP Camera > 5MP Camera (and honestly, better than the 8MP on the DX2).
It has more than "300k" ram.
But, you know, some of the above is personal preference. It's perfectly fine if you don't like the phone.
I love it.
I love my Charge
great batt life and no lockups or anything like I was getting with the tbolt
Grammar and spelling are officially dead on the Internet
It has 512MB of RAM, with a portion of that being allocated to the GPU and some other things on the system, leaving you with ~330MB or so. The GPU needs some dedicated memory to get such good performance, and I'd rather not see it at all, than see it and not be able to use it.
Lets be honest. Out of the box this phone is a pos.
Ive returned mine once thinking i got a bunk phone. On my second droid charge now and im convinced this phone has some hardware issues and samsung built it as cheap as possible. I havent lost any pixils yet but im not sure any rom will make this a sold phone.
I don't understand why people start threads to complain about the phone they own. If you don't like it, fine. Either get rid of it or deal with it. Complaining makes you look:

B. Like someone who didn't do any research before buying.

The only thing I can gather, is that folks like you don't care about 4G and didn't start with a Thunderbolt. This phone is far superior to the Tbolt... making it the best Verizon 4G phone available.
I had a fascinate and stepped up the the charge... I really like the charge. I like the feel and the look of the charge. The only thing that's going to top this phone is going to be the galaxy s2, that is supposed to be released sometime in the third quarter for verizon.

The only issue here is that there are talks that the SGS2 won't be LTE-capable If that's the case, it will make me really, really sad.
And seriously people, if you don't like the phone return it and gtfo. I'm kind of getting sick of hearing about it. Me, personally, I've owned almost every new Verizon and Sprint phone since the HTC Incredible. I love this phone.

Should I buy the sensation

Hi everyone I heard sensation have so much problems but idk what problems or how bad. Currently I have HTC panache with 2.3.3 out of box in Canada which is same as mytouch 4g . Is it worth upgrade cause I can return my phone . I got it less than week ago. I had LG optimus 2x for 3 days so many random shutoffs so return that one. Please share your taughts.
I just bought mine and to be honest it's using an "immature" operating system.
With that said,it has the goods to really perform once the OS is wrung out.
TBH,my phone for the last five years has been an Audiovox PPC 6600.
It's been as solid as a rock.
I was really reluctant to change as the phone has done everything I needed.
With that said,I'm also a hardware freak...new phones...oh yeah.
I looked at the Atrix, but there was too many things about it that gave me pause.
This one didn't,so I bought it.....and I don't regret it.
There will probably be better phones in the near future, but for the money, this one's going to be tough to beat.....it's very versatile.

if you really have to ask sombody should you buy it then you must not really want it, cause people can tell you anything doesnt mean they made the right choice for you wether yes or no, its your own thoughts on the phone go to your local dealer and check it out for your self no one can give you the best answer but your self
I am currently on my fourth Sensation with a 5th one to arrive in 3 days. All have had random rebooting-overheating- screen creaking(gets worse as time goes by)volume that just goes so low(randomly) you cannot hear it(when settings are on max) dour battery life, losing all signal at times and having to reboot to get a signal-wifi grip issue AND LOCKED BOATLOADER and the list goes on. If I had it to do over again I would not have ordered one in the first place. The phone does have enormous potential but its like the sport scene-so many athletes with enormous potential that never are heard from again or just never make it to the bigs. Having said all of this I do like the phone(it feels great in my hand) but no updates from HTC(very little if any word about if and when) and issues that seem to accumulating more and more everyday, make me quite hesitant to recommend this phone. I know others will state just the opposite and I am sure that is their experience. I can only share what my experience is and has been.

The dInc also got Gingerbread 2 weeks ago, then the OTA was stopped due to some serious issues with it. Those dInc guys crack me up. It's just something about the whining about not getting Sense 3.0 with it and their insane belief that the dInc is best device ever constructed. I swear, if I read one more post where the writer says something like "Sadly, I got a dInc2 from Asurion as a warranty replacement instead of another AMOLED dInc" (like they got totally screwed in the deal!), I'm gonna find them and shove that phone up their piss hole.
I actually miss my dinc a lot. It's a great little phone. Great specs. Great dev support. Only thing keeping me from going back is 4G.

What killed the Dinc was that it didn't have enough memory to run sense. I have a Dinc & a TBolt and I have 270 mb free most of the time with the TBolt and only 70 -100 mb free on the Dinc. The Dinc has a stripped down sense rom and the TBolt rom has most everything.

The other day you said you were bored, but please, spare the rest of us. I dont want to scare you off, really. But how many more of these threads are you going to create? You're the one who said you were done, not me.
Futhermore, this is nothing more than a disguised versus thread. We have a thunderbolt, why should we care about the Incredible ota. You seem like a decent guy but geesh.

Spoken like the true troll king
So does this mean you're not trading your thunderbolt or having sim card issues or really ticked? Considering you made threads about each of these in the past couple of days. But you're right about one thing, I should just ignore you.

Best phone every tell that to me who went through 6 Inc all for reasons that had nothing to do with Rooting or dropping the phone. The phone over heated on a few of them and fried the board. Some phone would reboot and wipe my phone clean for no reason. I did get to keep the last phone which my daughter has as a video game phone so she would keep her hands off my TB, and surprising it been a great game system/netflix for her anyways. But I would have loved to get upgraded to the new phone as a replacement it only happened to me one time but I was like HELL YEA, and that was back when it was a flip phone but I got a 3.2 MP camera.
Can't we all just get along

kinda hard when every thread i make gets trolled.
The incredible was a good phone but the Tbolt definately has advantages over it. I wouldn't trade my Tbolt back for the Incredible but it definately was a good phone.

The radio from the 2.11 leak is freakin great. I know with the TB it seems different phones respond to different radios but I have seen more positive posts about the one from the 2.11 leak then any other radio. I got 15 hours of heavy heavy usage the other day after flashing a new ROM and that radio before I even changed all my settings to help optimize battery life. Plus my 4G hasn't cut out on me at all like it did sometimes before.

Sidekick 4g vs MyTouch 4g Slide(Ordered myTouch)

T mobile is offering me a choice between a Sidekick 4g and a myTouch 4g slide.... I've read the specs and seems the mytouch is higher end but want to know opinions from users who know whats what. like I said I've read the specs already so I am trying to look past the black and white.
_____________
OK now I have the phone on it's way. I know I can't get s-off but would like to know what I can and can't do until that solution has been found. I am also reading up so not looking for the lazy way out.

Pretty sure the Sidekick has reported A LOT of hardware problems.... check there forums here as well, but I do recall it being a high-problem phone.
You can't possibly go wrong with this device.
Developer "Blue61X" has even bought two of these devices because he loves it so much. if that helps

I'm leaning this way.... haven't had much chance to explore this forum yet... Is it possible to get s-off yet?
Yea, it's great. I can't see anything else coming close to it for a while in it's class ( hardware keyboard )
The stock battery is not great - and that's being polite.
You can find links to the battery threads in the contents page of my sticky in dev - basically you have the cheaper Anker or the more expensive Mugen to choose from to replace it with.
If you have/want to spend the money, the Mugen is great - I rock an Anker myself and love it.
Make use of the tv-out through the headphones jack, I play a lot of games output to a tv screen and the device stays alive and active while you are hooked up. I'm sure you can imagine how much more fun racing games and many others will be like this.
You can also find links to the tv threads in the dev reference, which will tell you what cable to get.
I have a Trident case on my primary, and love it. There's a decent thread on cases, but I've been pretty busy around here and haven't had the chance to update it in a while. I'll get back to it sometime.
Once you change a few keymappings, update with my gps fix and start really playing with it you'll love it.
Any specific questions just toss 'em out there - but there is no other device now or that we know of coming that I would trade this for.

Depends. For the new update, which you'll have, you got a chance with the HTC unlock tool - if that works you can do most stuff.
We are actively working on a downgrade to S-OFF option - this led to me getting S-OFF to S -ON for us a couple hours ago and I'll be bringing one of my devices up to the S-ON locked state you'll get it in later tonight.
Then I'll be able to actually try stuff instead of us guessing - all the devs working on the fix were S-OFF already so figuring out how to flip it S-ON was a big step in productivity. Once I update in S -ON, I'm stuck until we figure it out - so don't worry man, right there with ya.
HTC should have the issue resolved and restart the OTA in the not too distant future.

DO NOT SIDEKICK 4G i have that phone and its slow as ****, no roms, very hard to put clockwork mod on it,
the olny good thing about it is the keyboard and i personally prefer the mytouch 4g slides keybaord
@ Blue: looking forward to the success of your work and all that I can learn from you and the other devs. I personally use the Samsung galaxy s 4g and am getting this phone to replace my wife's mt3gs and think I'm going to be jealous from the little bit that I've read.
@wiswis: already placed the order for the mytouch. I posted something similar to this in the sidekick forum and plenty of people have viewed but no post. They made the decision very easy.
Thank you everyone for your input.
Definitely the mt4gs

Just a little word about the GPS. On the 1.28.531.10 stock ROM, your GPS fix was a huge improvement. However, now that I'm on the 1.55.531.3 stock ROM, the GPS is lightening quick and accurate without any adjustments on my part. HTC must have done some serious tweaking to the GPS code in this ROM.

You know, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that - there was a bunch of GPS stuff that was pushed for the new update, a new SUPL cert and gps.conf file. I meant to take a look at it to see what they did and if it still needed help or not, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Hopefully I'll have the presence of mind to pull them from my other phone now that it's up to date stovk

If you read the specs alone it should be nothing but obvious what phone to choose its like asking should i go with a free geo or a BMW .........
i think you get the idea by now, but i'll just say, the keyboard is the ONLY POSSIBLE reason you might choose the SK. i've had both, and there is no comparison... MT4GS all the way.
LMFAO! Screw the damn keyboard. I can't wait to dig into this phone and see what it can do. Only downside is my wife said I only get one weekend to set it up before she takes it away. NOW that I have the phone on order and I'll only have the weekend to mess with it any suggestions on what I should start with until s-off is achieved?
Depends what hboot u get. If u get the older one, ur in business. Ez to root and s-off.
Use rubix ics 5.2 with my directions on page 148 of its thread on rootzwiki, if u want stability with everything working and super fast. If she wants ics, tbalden's rom probably. But all the 4.0.X roms are still a work in progress.
