[Q] Voodoo? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I just saw that the infuse just got voodoo lagfix. This phone has been out quite a while and is incredibly close to the vibrant. Is this phone lacking support that badly? I guess I'll contact supercurio directly to see what can be done.

While this phone doesn't have a large developer base it is coming along nicely, drhonk just got a loaner phone and has developed a sweet kernel for us (before he even had loaner) krylon360 we wouldn't have CWM (with drhonks help) and birgertime just yesterday got trigger rom ported over from the vibrant and a host of others that are learning, there is no doubt in my mind that lagfix will get here this phone is a beast. Instead of whinning you should be thankful for what we have and will get in the future. (Those of you that have helped and I didnt name sorry not trying to leave you out just to numerous to name so Thank You All)

I don't think I did any whining.. Merely asked a simple question. Thanks for the useless post, of things that I already knew from reading the forum. I contacted supercurio about a possible port. I don't even have this phone, was just trying to help out.

Don't take it personally.
This community is edgy about all the "sgs4g doesn't have this, can't do that, has nothing available" type posts. When our community was struggling we used to get trolls and tons of posts like that. Not saying YOUR legit post was one of those. Just telling you where that vibe is coming from.
Happy Modding, and please let us know if you hear about the lag fix mod.

For showcase users [please read]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you haven't noticed me and lmartin92 (AWESOME GUY) are the ONLY SHOWCASE users that has added anything to the community.. Hopefully that is about to change soon, we have a couple new guys that really sound promising, but I'm sure there's many of you that could contribute some Valuable help....
I don't think it's right depending on the Mesmerize Devs and Fascinate Devs do everything for us so I'm trying to learn what I can... And only a few months ago I'd never touched an Android device. Until about 3 weeks ago I'd never touched linux. All this is VERY new to me, but if you're willing to learn and have any knowledge with a computer, which if you've flashed anything you more than likely do, and can simply FOLLOW instructions.. Then there's plenty of people including myself that are willing to teach you what they know...
Bdemartino, has written an awesome theming guide Found HERE... He has the tools listed that you need just make sure to follow his instructions word for word... For showcase users (make sure to use the latest Showcase Pick n pack to pull the framework-res and twframework-res for your themes) Theming is trial and error.. You're more than likely not going to get it right the first try... I have some additional files with the xml edits.. Just PM me if you're interested
Phidelt82 has written up a guide for setting up a DEV box located HERE.. This may be advanced for some, but you can always walk through it and see Linux and play around with some stuff and try to learn some commands..
I'm just learning mods, but again I can teach you what I've learned...
And for all the Showcase users that don't think they can develop or don't have time, then the least you could do to support this forum is offer the Newer guys courteous answers when they ask.. I know that the same questions can get old, but let's not forget that we were all new at one point.. Some people may have no forum experience what so ever... So let's help them out, and if you don't want to do that then simply don't respond and let someone else answer them...
The last thing we want to do is scare away new Users from XDA, you never know what they may bring to the table down the road!!!!
And for the new people...
Please Read the entire posts first before doing anything, if you run into a problem try reading through the thread to see if anyone else has the same issue..
If you can't find your answer then the best place to get an answer is the irc
http://webchat.freenode.net/ channel= #samsung-mesmerize
and you can always post a question in the threads as well....

Ew. First step: Drop the 1993 clichés.
I am a little new to this but succesfuly rooted my last showcase and had 2.2.1 with pick n pack .3 and voodoo kernal and it worked great other than I couldn't silence phone calls with the volume rocker. Anyone else have this issue? Then I flashed superfrankenclean Tom with comavault kernal and I had a lot of verizon stuff on it like location services powered by vzw and also 3g mobile hotspot vzw wasn't worried to much about it till this morning my service dropped to nothing then I dialed *228 which I know now was big no no and then my phone went into roaming and couldn't get any service at all so took it to csouth got a new one which probably will be charged for and then tried to do step by step instructions for froyo and links were gone and instructions so I tried to root with z4 which I did then couldn't get red recovery screen to work when I flashed update.zip kept getting no signature or something so anyway I was able to redo my steps on the froyo build from Odin as I had somehow remembered and now I got everything going on pnp.3 and using voodoo but I really miss voodoo control sound is this still not available for it? I would like to go back to superclean with comavault but would like some advice and feedback from more experienced users I posted this in another thread but figured this was best thread for it and I really wish we had our own thread because I read on this site for days back 2 weeks ago and had massive migraines from trying to figure out what would work for showcase and what wouldn't and some things like rom manager you use the fascinate for something then for other things on this site you use the mesmerize so any help with what is most stable and what to run would be appreciated only thing I can tell not working with pnp.3 now is can't silence phone calls still but I really like the superclean and would go back to it if someone posted about what's happening to cause the radio signal issue

Sorry for the lengthy post guys just trying to clear lots of things up I encountered and figured other newbies may benefit from it too.

The best advice I can give you is learn to listen (read) and follow the discussions and advice these forums provide. Only flash ROMs, kernels, etc. that are either designed for the Showcase or are known to be compatible with it. Period. If you don't pay attention, and just go off flashing this and that and whatever, you're asking for trouble. There's no need to get a headache over all the stuff that's out there that isn't for the Showcase. Only concern yourself with what is either for, or is compatible with, the Showcase. Everything else isn't relevant.
And if after actually reading the original post and the thread and you still aren't sure if its a-ok for the Showcase, just ask. But read first. Don't be that guy who asks, when the original post clearly states it is or isn't Showcase compatible in the second or third sentence. Know what I mean?
As for the superclean ROM. I'm running it and the comavolt kernel and have had absolutely zero issues.
I've had two other people tell me they lost their signal all together with superclean to and they tried to go back to pnp and they still had no signal. Only way they got it back was to use odin. Guess ill try it out again as I really liked it. Under settings and mobile network which one of the boxes do you have checked? Home automatic a or b?

Bionix coming to the G2x?

Just noticed a new section for the G2x on the Team Whiskey forum. This might sway my decision on whether to keep the G2x or not. If Bionix is developed for the G2x it just might make this a keeper phone for me.

a week before the phone came out krylon360 said he was getting it... one of the reasons i left the SGS4G
about 4 days after he got the phone he confirmed that he will keep the bionix name and throw sum on this phone... read his signature
but i wanna know where is SOMBIONIX!

I think there was a discussion about SOMBIONIX taking a sabbatical of sorts. Don't know if it's permanent or not (would be a shame if it is), but maybe he just got burned out.

Any SBF for the ATRIX 2 ?

Hello all,
I need a sbf rom for the atrix2.
We have no roms, apparently the devs feel it would be a waste of time to build a stock based rom.

sbf is NOT a custom rom. its a stock flash.
i dont think you fully understand the bootloader on the atrix....please keep the negativity towards the devs out of here.
As of right now all we really need to use is factory reset if something gets messed up. Custom Roms sounds nice but I'm more interested in overclock this puppy and adding some extra lock screens. *sits and waits patiently*

i think at the moment, as SBF is more important than a custom rom. we NEED the ability to go back to factory...
Sbf is step 1 toward getting the Atrix 2 development friendly.
I laughed out loud when I saw your post on the official moto forum, cheetablaze, it was a good try though.
We don't typically provide these files to the consumers as they are not customer friendly.

Did I say it was a custom rom or did you assume thats what I meant? What did I say negatively about any dev? I'll be the first to admit I dont know jack about the bootloader, thats no secret, hence my thread asking why its necessary to unlock it to dev roms for it. Thats all.

re-read your comment. if it wasnt meant to be derogatory, then fine. you made it sound as if devs owed you a rom, even if it was stock based. i dont think you understand what devving a rom entails. please stop comparing this to the sony you used to have. i can tell you from my experience with motorola, htc, and samsung that none of them are similar....im going to assume that sony would be different as well. just because something works for one device does NOT mean it will work for another. same reason we couldnt get anything really decent over on the atrix until the BL was unlocked. every device is different, some even within the same manufacturer dont act the same as another within. patience, please. i dont know if you noticed, but there arent exactly a ton of developers coming over to the atrix2 side of things right now. we will work with what we have. now that i have my vivid, i can start focusing on tearing up the atrix 2.

LMAO. You come at me sideways based on your assumption and/or misinterpretation and the best you could come up with is "fine"? Not even an attempt at an apology or acceptance of your inappropriate reaction? Wow, ok. Seems kind of counterproductive to your wanting a peaceful forum with no bashing when you're the one coming in pointing the finger at me for doing something I didnt even do. And then you cant even man up and own the fact that you overreacted and apologize for doing so. Sweet!
I've already made it clear my level of understanding of not only the Android system but also the Atrix 2, not gonna rehash that.
Check my resume here on xda, I have never been one of those guys who felt like any developer owed me anything! I'm always appreciative of anything I have ever gotten from them and have even donated to a couple (unsolicited) to show my appreciation for their work so for you to even insinuate anything other ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS BASED YOUR MISINTERPRETATION AND/OR MISUNDERSTANDING of what I said is offensive and disrespectful.

Cyanogen Mod Kernel Port Project

As of right now, I am modifying and reviewing the code in the KVM folders in both sources. I just need to know as to who is doing what. It would be a LOT easier for anyone who is trying to port the CM GB Kernel to our phone. So far it is taking me all night long just to do ONE file. If I can get help with this. It will mean that we will get CM7 running on our phone soon.
i pm'ed you the link to krylon's source. Have a look at that.
Could we not port it from the Vibrant as described here?

Sorry dude, I still have no clue what you are talking about.
Maybe provide full paths to what you're talking about?
If you searched around, or read under "Plans" in the OP of my kernel thread (serious everyone... it's been there for quite some time!) or search through Q&A or General, you will find me talking about the progress of where I'm at whenever someone brings up another cm7 or kernel thread.
I will also plan on updating the OP in that thread or at least point to a new thread... when something happens.
Something is being worked on, but unless you are experienced with android/kernel system development, sit back and relax. There are a few gb roms to play with, fb's debloat tool, if you hate wifi/4g reception or want bln/voodoo sound, go check out froyo roms (don't forget about bootloaders ).
Relax, if you want something good, you have to wait.
Replied to the wrong thread.
Nice i cant wait for cm7 port. Loved it with my g2 and cm6 with my old g1

And no. I'm not "really close". There is plenty of stuff for me to figure out, and the ammount of time i'd spend telling you what is going on, I could be working on it.
I spend LESS THEN 20% of my time on this stuff, and nothing has changed from last night. There is nothing 'newer' then that.
Status: I'm not done. Nothing is ready yet. Check the forum for updates. I have no ETAs. Relax, go watch tv, hiking, learn to surf... do something. Gimme time. (btw, this is why I don't like adding people to my gtalk.)

Go to google and learn how to edit and compile the Linux kernel. I don't know anything about editing kernels either and that's where I'd start. Before you ask why you need to learn about Linux you should know that Android is based on Linux.

P.S. When you just say "no offense" and then say something offensive, it does not make it ok.

P.S. When you just say "no offense" and then say something offensive, it does not make it ok.

Jiggly... if I may,
While I agree on the double standard on 'no offense', the point being made is that there is a link at the bottom of my signature that says 'github'.
If you venture there, you find repositories. The ones with the readme files are the 'useful' files.
If you want me to spoon feed the young, I will need more arms.
I wish this community would embrace the saying 'RTM'. It's all there. Black and White (depending on your system settings ). There is more then one forum on xda, and other phone forums based on the galaxy s phone also provide tips on building cyanogen. And the commands are only slightly different.
At this point with my source, a build if it builds would not work at all. I'm experimenting around with a few local repo's that are not on github. And when that stuff works, I totally plan on putting up a [REF] thread here in general on building sgs4g cm7 from source.
I don't plan on doing this any sooner then it working, because you don't need to be bricking your phone... right!?!
If you are an android developer and know how to build cm7, you would have found the manifest and never looked back. forked repositories, sent me pull requests to merge your code into my tree... so we can work together.
On one hand, I don't want to baby sit 'wanna be' developers that have no clue what they are getting into, because I don't want to play Q&A with them. It eats up all my time on making this stuff work in the first place.
On the other hand, there are real developers out there who know what to do, but might need some help. I do not want to push these people away, because they will just go and all I have to do is merge.
I cannot agree with you more BH. I appreciate all the work that you do for our phones community and my post was not a comment towards you at all.
I cannot even imagine trying to develop and help people with their questions as much as possible along the way. I know that every minute you are answering questions that is one less minute you are using your "CM7 time" to develop.
My post was simply stating that if you do absolutely NOTHING for the community (lowsnamebrand)... don't bash others for trying. I know people that were asking noob questions 6 to 8 months ago that are developing roms for other devices.
I do apologize if I offended you as that was not my intention whatsoever. I just hate seeing people shoot others down and bash others for trying. Whether you love airfluip or hate him, you cannot deny that he does try to help as much as possible. He asks what he can do to help (which may annoy people but i feel he really wants to help), answers peoples questions, developed AOSP rom and deals with a lot of the same "hand holding" helping people to flash roms.
Again, I am sorry if I offended you but my comment was not in reference to you or your work at all. Thanks for all that you do BH.

Haha, nah man. Airfluip1 is young and full of "go'get'em". I was like that once. A couple people gave me **** and I started reading everything I could get my hands on because I never wanted to be 'that guy'. He just needs the thwack over the head to go read more. (google, it works!)
Airfluip1 thinks that I am making daily progress on this. I'm not.
The only reason I said anything in the first place is because he keeps pumping up other user's saying "Oh, bh is gonna get cm7 out soon!" which really isn't being honest to other users. If I can get SKILLED help, then we can get cm7 out sooner. But I don't want to teach people stuff that they could find/learn on google. If you can't figure that out, don't ask to help me. It just annoys me.
My response to your post was supposed to have some <snarky> and <sarcasm> tags, I musta failed
I hope you laughed at the "if I may,"

Need dev's help extracting a kernel!

I have a DoCoMo version of this phone and I found all of the roms compatible if I had the correct Kernel. Is there a dev that can extract the Stock kernel from this and post it so it could be flashed after a rom?

I also tried it and it worked fine for me, but the haptic keys will not work and charging is disabled.
Bump for help!
Link doesnt work
Link Fixed please help!!!
Dounut for the guy that help me
still no help?
Well, it wasn't hard at all to get the kernel out, but I'm not that good, so I'll look into asking Da_G if he can mod up the kernel quickly so you can flash our ROM's, and your modems + kernels and be fine.
No guarantees though, I'm not very good with the actual code, and Da_G is a busy man.
the boot.img inside the tar file is the kernel. how hard is that? just open it with 7zip and pull the boot.img out. THAT is the kernel
Cooled off now.

Durr, I have the kernel, but I don't know what he wants. If he just wants that, I'll upload it, but what if he wants a CUSTOM kernel, that's what I mean. I'm not very smart when it comes to that.

Don't you get a joke? I'm not actually CALLING you a ****. Jesus christ, I was one of the people who got mad when you left, why the **** would I call you something? I was expected you to call me something back.
I'm sick of the bull**** on XDA. You can't even crack a joke in the name of a swear word without being hated. I'm seriously about to get a ****ing iPhone to quit dealing with this bull****.

Most people here on the skyrocket section are good people but of course there MUST be trolls!

Yeah, I did not know the boot.img was the kernel. I can extract that myself. But a custom kernel would be ideal.
here is the boot.img in a zip. its not flashable, but it does have some goodies tied into it.
drop the img into a rom zip you want to flash.
i have no idea if it will work out for you or not though. be warned
I want to run this kernel with skyicecream. How would I do that? Just replace the kernel in the ROM zip?

It's alright, I was kind of pissed off too from another thread where people just kept calling devs a bunch of lazy pricks.
Sorry Pirate, I didn't mean to snap at you. :/
Also, you did NOT hear this from me, but Da_G has a kernel in the works. YOU DIDN'T HEAR IT FROM ME. *whistles*
