Am I the only one who gets worse battery on gingerbread? I have less widgets running than on froyo, and it seems to drain much more. Anyone else have the same?
I haven't noticed any difference. I still get about 6 hours before needing my charger (which is the same as I had on Froyo).
they already said that having a gb rom will not have a great battery life... it's all still being refined, so have some patience untill we have something close to perfect. also, have you tried different kernels? with imo's lean test 2.7.1, i've been getting pretty good battery life, but then again, everyone's phone is different.

Ahhh, I thought gingerbread was suppose to have far superior battery life than froyo. Didnt know it was in the tweaking phase.
As for me, I am getting atleast 10% less battery with bamf beta 5 than I was with perfect storm 1.3 with VERY light usage throughtout the day. Next imma try imo's lean kernal. If that doesnt help close the gap, I may be heading to perfect storm 1.5
But thanks for the replies guys, they helped
no problem, hope imo's 2.7.1 beta kernel helps you out with a bit better battery life, so far it's doing great for me
I'm actually getting better battery life with Gingerbread (das BAMF 2.0-5)
As of right now I'm at 12 hours 16 mins and 33 seconds on battery w/ 39% left:
display on 1h 45m
voice call 2h 11m
browser 33m
bluetooth 8h 12m
wifi 2h 19m
Froyo only got me around 11-12 hours before shut down with the same type of usage.

I am getting awesome battery life with GingerRemix. Try using Battery Calibration and do it a couple of times. On 3G, yesterday my phone lasted from 7:30am to 3am this morning after a day of moderate use. Haven't been in a 4G area recently.

I'm also running Ginger Remix and haven't noticed any excessive battery drain. If anything, it appears to be a little better.

ok using wiskey rom with bali kernel stock file system for now havent done the battery reset sence flashing this rom as of yet. Took phone off charger at 600 am pst its now 1003 pm pst and still have 19 percent battery thats after leaving facebook running in the background yahoo messenger texting most of the day 4 hours worth of phone calles browsing the net listening to music for 40 mins just wasnt sure if thats conisdered light or moderate usage and if thats considered decent battery life?
I'd say that is pretty moderate use, although i'd advise you not to leave background apps running since it drains battery. Talking on the phone will take you down quite a notch on the battery life, same goes for your data usage. I usually get about a single day out of my charged battery with normal use though so you're fine. (I'm running stock w/root- so considering you're running a custom rom i think that's magnificent)
EDIT: I just rer-read and saw you're using the bali kernel lol

Yeah, thats waaayyy better than what I've been getting. I swear there's something wrong with my phone. Unplugged at 9am, had to recharge by 8pm. Didn't really do much either, just messed with it for like an hour trying to fix the trigger theme for frost.

the whole point is trying to kill the battery lol thats how i use my phone and keep in touch with people when im not home so i do leave those apps running on puropose so i can keep in touch phone is idleing right now at 18 percent still lol mm might play a game to try n kill it further well thanks for letting me know that its considered decent i guess after it dies ill calibrate the battery and see what i get after
so ive been trying to figure out how to get the best battery life. i saw that someone got 50+ hours on their phone in the battery life bali kernel thread! they were using juice defender. i tried it on my sisters phone and it definitely makes a difference. the only problem that i am having with juice defender is the issue with cpu speed. i am oc'ing at 1.2ghz, but juice defender is always changes it back to 1ghz...at which point tegrak tries to get it back to 1.2. lol. anyone know how to get past this in the free version? i dont want it impacting tegrak.
I was the one who got 50+ hours.. Just to clarify, I'm not using the bali kernal. I'm on Whitehawkx stock Deodexed KD1 ROM with root, with a lot of bloat removed. My phone is also only about 3-4 weeks old (got it as a refurb from Tmobile), so maybe the fresh battery makes a difference.
As far as JD, I'm not sure how to get around the overclock issue (I'm not OC'd), but I will buy the ultimate version and poke around a bit to see if there are settings for that.
My next charge didn't last as long because I used the phone much more over the holiday weekend, but I still got a bit more than 24 hrs.
This latest charge is going strong though, I'm at 49 hours right now and still have 64% battery left. Haven't used wifi or gps on this charge at all, but did use bluetooth for about an hour or so yesterday while driving. had 14 calls so far in these 2 days (one on the bluetooth), but none of the calls were that long (maybe 5 mins?).
the stats screen currently shows:
display 43%
Cell standby 32%
Phone idle 16%,
Voice Calls 9%
I made a post in the bali thread about things I did to help with battery life, but maybe it would be better if there is a dedicated battery life thread somewhere?
I'm running the free version of jd with it not interfering with my oc (1.2 right now) and I have jd set to "aggressive".

I really hate creating these threads because it makes me look likr a complete noob but I can' figire this out for the life of me. I bought the charge thinking I could use it for a day and change but I have yet to experience this awesome battery life. Even when I got my first day, the battery life was horrible and even after its first charge, it wasnt any better. Do I just have a bad battery or something?
Heres what I remember doing:
-Flash gummycharge day 2 of owning phone (1.8.5) novoodoo kernal
-An issue came up where I couldnt press my power button without the phone freezing
-so at this point I reverted back to a stock ee2 rom
-i then flashed gummycharged once again (same as above)
-after flashing, I charged my battey up, shutdown, wait for 100%, repeat 3x to wipe battery stats/calibrate my battery
So I unplugged my phone at 5:00pm and it is now 7:07pm. In two hours with about an hour of browsing, my phone is at 73%. I have nothing on any of my homescreens just to be sure it wasnt consuming the battery, cdma automatic instead of 4g lte since my area does not support it yet and manual brightness at 15%.
What is it I'm doing wrong?

Download humble 1.25 and your battery woes will be no more my son....
Will take you suggestion and try it out tonight. I dont mean to derail my own thread but is it possible that when I flashed back to stock ee2, it caused my signal to decrease even though I put gummycharged over it later? Ever since I had to reflash because of the power button issue, I noticed a decrease in signal strength (from mid 80s to high 90s). Sorry for all the questions!

Hi,
I saw your Humble ROM and was considering installing it to try to improve battery life as we'll.
What about your ROM conserves battery over the stock rom?
Now that p3droid released 2.3.4 I will certainly have to try it, do you plan to make a version of Humble using this new base?
Thanks for your work, I really am loving this new phone!

If you are getting that bad of battery life, go to EE4 Debloated . Flash P&J OC Kernel. and Undervolt your phone.
Whay would be causing this kind of battery life though?

No telling, depends on how you use your phone and what apps are running.
Thats the thing. I haven't been doing anything other than browsing. I only went to class and browsed for maybe 2 hours max. Everything else is 2% ish other than the dolphin hd browser. If I look at the battery stats, the display is the only thing thats depleting the battery really. I'm starting to think its because I have weak coverage in my area.

I've had similar battery issues with two different Charge units running each ROM/Kernel (except GB). I also live in a weak coverage area where I average 1 to 2 bars, sometimes dropping to 0 and i'm convinced this has to be it. I had written this idea off initially because I previously had ATT and the same weak coverage with them, but nowhere near the same abnormal battery drain...so I guess there must be a difference between the way CDMA and GSM operate in this respect? I'm in a 3G only area and keep the phone locked to CDMA/Auto also.

I am running 1.25 and have had absolutely no improvement to my battery life (strong 4g area in SoCal).
I've just resigned to the fact that I'll get 6-7 hours (even on an extended battery, same results) and have to charge once or twice a day.
Coming from the fascinate I honestly think the battery life is better. Although I turned lte off since we don't have any coverage for it yet. My mind will probably change when we get it. Running stock ee4 rooted with voodoo kernel. My father is running the same thing and also came from the fascinate, he completely agrees.

I had really bad battery life on my phone running the stock rom and gummycharged. With the phone sleeping and only data on, I was losing at least 5% an hour.
I switched to Humble a week ago and my battery life is exceptional. I am ususally looking at 24 hrs with 4g on and longer with it off.
If you do a lot of browsing and keeping your screen on, your battery is going to burn quickly. No matter what ROM you are using. If it's draining a lot of battery in sleep, flash Humble.

Dude, this isn't the fix. I'll flash Humble 1.25 right now and prove to you that it doesn't fix battery issues. Yes, it's less of a battery hog than the other available ROMs, but flashing Humble 1.25 will not fix your battery gremlin.
I wish Danalo, imnuts and the other gurus would spend more time figuring out this battery gremlin. Charging your battery to 100% then wiping battery stats through CWR doesn't work either. I've tried it countless times.
OP, here's another thread regarding the battery issues many people are experiencing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145161

Don't give up so soon. The battery life on the Charge can be amazing and I know from experience. My experience also shows that there are funky battery issues that pop up when flashing various crap. Flashing an Odin bundle has not worked for me, at all. Wiping battery stats has not worked.
I was running GummyCharged 1.5 with the PBJT kernel and voodoo enabled and got 17+ hours of medium-hard use EASILY. Since then, I flashed the original GB leak, Gummy, Humble, Stock... I cannot figure out what the heck is going on, my battery life is still crap.

It really sounds like signal issues to me. My Charge handles weak mobile signals better than my Thunderbolt, but any cell phone will really crank up the juice draw looking for a tower if it can't find one. In my north county office, my Thunderbolt will drain 25% per hour if I don't keep it near the window where it can get a better signal.
You need to post a lot more details.
Are you on wifi or mobile data? Are you 3G or 4G area? How strong is your 3G/4G signal?
Have you dug into the battery use screens to see what's up?
Grab Spare Parts from the Market if your ROM doesn't have it and look into it's battery statistics...things like wake-locks will really kill the phone.

I've done this countless times to no avail. I'm going to flash Humble 1.25 again in a bit, but it definitely didn't fix the battery issue earlier today when I flashed it. Yes I wiped battery stats. Yes the battery was at 100%.
I'm going to try the ridiculous procedure laid out in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152088
I am loving this rom, but also having HORRID battery life, I am literally dropping 10% every 90 minutes with an extended battery.
27% Cell Standbye
26% Bluetooth
19% Display
Now I keep reading that these might be false readings, but I keep reading this as a response to those having **** for battery life... so maybe they are not false?
Anyone having good battery life show readings like this? Those with bad battery life, what are your readings?
I'm running the CM7 w/the 2.5 radio - I'm in a 100% full time 4G area, but seem to have worse battery life when the 4G radio is on, so I just keep the phone on 3G - if I need the faster data I can always turn it on and off.
I'm running the stock kernal, no overclocking or setcpu type stuff going on.
Would like to hear from folks running this ROM w/killer battery life, what are your settings, tweaks, etc. Please specify if you're running an MR1 or Mr2/2.5 version and/or running the latest OTA 2 radio that just came out like yesterday.
I just turned off my FB sync (I forgot about that). I don't have gmail set up to sync automatically either.
I'm going to do this procedure a little later today and see if it helps, this is for the EVO, but, ya know....
34. "Calibrate" battery - (1) Turn device ON, charge it for 8 hours (or until LED turns green), (2) unplug and turn it OFF, plug it back in and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (3) unplug and turn it ON, wait 2 minutes, turn it OFF, plug it back in, and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (4) unplug it, turn it ON, and use normally.
Anybody else try this?
today will be my first full day of work use w/this ROM so we'll see what happens.
Best to keep 4g off if not using it. Also, turn Bluetooth off when not in use.

i had horrible battery life the first day - then it got better. then i flashed mr2 official and battery life is really solid. getting like 15-20 hrs with 4g always on, bluetooth on sometimes. one important thing is having a custom lighting table which i will post later.

I have never, nor do I intend to ever do this. I got an extended battery for a reason. I can go all day and then some on the official roms, and all of the Sense roms.
I am not new to CM7, I have run it on both an Eris, and an Incredible. Both devices got FAR better battery life on CM7.
I am not complaining about this rom, or Slayhers hard work. I simply want to gather information so that we may help him trouble shoot.

This is exactly what I did lol, I had lost 10% in the first 90 minutes, now I am at 58% at 5 hours. I have been streaming google music for 2 hours of that 5 though. I would guess I should have seen an increase in battery usage, but have not.
The battery readings are wrong, I get a full day on 4G with my stock battery and see those numbers for cell standby etc. I use lean kernel though
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
do you see those numbers for BLUE TOOTH though? We know good and well some numbers are fake, but that does not mean all.
FYI I am now at 37% and 7 hours and 7 minutes... I have not used google music since the last post and I am seeing the exact same battery drain as when I was using it.
I have absolutely horrible battery life when I'm at work (which is basically a bunker). On a normal day, my battery will be dead within 6 hours just sitting there on my desk.
However, when I am at home (great 4G signal), I see my device getting upwards of 16 hours with moderate use.
I will also say that since I upgraded to the most recent radio, I have been having much better battery life at home. Additionally, my phone has stayed much cooler with the most recent RC + new radio combination.
I heard if you change the render fx to n1 calibrated, then you will get like 1 hour extra of battery life. You can change the render fx by going to cyanogenmod settings.
11h32m11s on extended battery 69% left
The other numbers have to be wrong. Theres no way cell standby is the number one battery user.
my cell standby is also showing 30% with the new OTA 2 radio.
I switched to dream kernel (have not wiped battery stats) and am now at 88% after two hours, that puts me at 6% per hour verses yesterdays 10.

edit: to be clear, it only saves battery on AMOLED.
so what i have found is that after installing dream kernel and messing with the governor settings... along with being connected to wifi. my battery life has improved tremendously. i wiped battery stats this morning after a full charge and didnt notice any change.. then i flashed the kernel and messed with gov. settings... after rebooting ive noticed a huge huge difference.. just my 2 cents for anyone who had battery issues like me
Yesterday I was able to choke out 20 hours while in a 4G area the entire time.
Running RC 1.2, Imoseyon's leanKernel extreme mode (extremely undervolted and OCd to 1.4GHz) and using the InteractiveX governor.
Also, I just happened to reboot and surprisingly it only took away 1% of my battery. Amazing considering whenever I did that on a Sense ROM, I'd experience a battery loss ranging from 7%-10%.

What settings did you land on as best?
cpu is set max to 368 mhz(very low) but i can crank it up if im doing somethign like playing games or downloading and want speed. brightness is at about 15-20 percent. the dream kernel and mr2.0 radio have made a big diff too. the dream kernel made the biggest. usually when id power off or reboot id lose 6-10 percent same as someone else i saw post. now i lose maybe 1 percent which is a huuuuge difference considering you lose 10 percent just because you reboot. also i try to stay on wifi wherever i go. on 3g i def notice it drain quicker, but i am no expert and there are a lot of people on here who by far outexperience and outknowledge me(my new 2 words) so im sure other people have some suggestions

Although that's an obvious solution. There's more he can try before he goes to spend the money for an extra battery. I honestly don't see a need for an extended battery and I play around on my phone all day. When I get in the car charge it. When Im at home on the pc charge it.
I definitely get better battery life on Froyo sense than aosp gb. I, personal, think I get the best battery life on a stock version. I'm currently running the rooted OTA and the OTA MR2 radio and am getting great battery life (4g off, don't have it in my area till the end of the month).
I wish CM7 got good battery life. I like it better than any ROM I've tried, but can't get over the battery drain. It's ok though, I like Sense a lot too.
But you know what they say: To each his own.
to each his own is right
But on the same platform (froyo vs gb) i just dont think you are going to get tremndous variations in battery life. There may be an outlier rom that uses it quickly by most of the roms are in the same ballpark. i think we are talking about squeaking out an extra 20-30 mins which is not nothing but 8+ hours of a battery charge i would be more inclined to go with whatever rom i like best. When GB is released for real, then we may see some improvements across the board.

???? I get much better battery life on CM7 over froyo and TB sense. I'm talking 50% more per day. CM7 wont be leaving my bolt anytime soon.

That's great but that's not the norm. Its clearly your setup. I'm only saying that because if it were true then we would all be using it

I have to agree. CM7 has been way better than any other rom i've tried.
CM7 with Kang Bang does best on mine, but you can't compare sense froyo to aosp GB. That's too many different factors. That's a different framework, different kernel structure, different ROM. How do you know what the culprit is?
I'm running BAMF 1.8.6 as well on standard battery.
I just charge at night, take the phone to the car or motorcycle for commute and place on charger. When at work, I have another USB charger with micro USB cable. Charge when at desk. Reverse procedure for drive home.
Battery is great when only off the charger for ~4 hours per day. :-|
It seems that sense battery life is better. I've been on cm7 for a couple weeks now and my battery will be nearly dead by this time every day. So I'm getting 5 to 6 hourz max with cm7. I'm on gingertheory now with dream kernel and setcpu running a few profiles, battery life is at 70%. May have been using it a little less today but still that's a big difference.

Getting the 2750mah extended was the best investment you can make into this phone, hands down. If your phone goes naked, then the difference in thickness is not that bad. In fact I love the new added thickness. It keeps my camera lens off the surface when I put it down flat. Not to mention it adds a certain heftyness that just exudes quality.
Sadly though I got an unlucky battery cover which creeks if you squeeze just a smidge on the sides
Other than that, man is it great. I can go about 48 hours without charging on CM7.1. At the end of the 48 hours, my screen would have been on for roughly 5-6 hours. That means nearly 3 hours of screen on time a day. If you sleep for 8 hours a day, that leaves 16 hours of awake time. 3/16 means nearly 20% of my time awake was spent looking at my phone. Hardly minimum usage, and if its not considered heavy then I fear for future generations. Screw these kids today 12 years old with a smartphone lol. I didn't get my first cellphone till I was a senior in highschool (2004) and even then, it was a crumby flipphone just for the sake of making calls and in case I was in trouble.
I have a Nexus S 4G. Right now i'm running CM7 with a Trinity Kernel. so far i get about 8~ hours of battery out of it. I'm really convinced there is a better combo out there. Any takers? Preferably GB, but I can deal with ICS if it means a longer battery life. On screen time is about 2-3 hours throughout a charge. I know there is something out there! help me out XDA!
Dude.... 8 hours.... I hope you mean screen time..... else everything would be better than what you have now!

probably a stupid question, but how do you calibrate your battery, I've been somewhat disappointed lately in my battery life.

The easiest way is to download the battery calibration app off Google Play and follow the instructions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd
or do it manually through CWM recovery.
1. Fully charge your battery.
2. Boot into recovery
3. Go to Advanced->Wipe Battery Stats and reboot.
4. Recommended to let your battery fully discharge and then fully recharge without break
5. Profit.
i calibrated my battery, so hopefully it increases the battery life! i would still like rom/kernel combo recommendations though thanks!
KalimĀ“s CM9 NIGHTLY 20120310 has amazing battery life with standard kernel. Much better then any ROM before.

If you want GB i recommend Oxygen and for ICS Codename Android.

Euroskank CM9 kangs, updates every day, works like a charm for me, running with Trinity T132, get about 20 hours battery life with moderate use.

Don't measure you battery life in terms of time since last charge. Measure it in terms of on-screen time.
2-3 hours of ON SCREEN TIME is average battery life.
I can roughly get about 4-5 hours if my brightness is down to level 6 (using brightness levels.) In my opinion the ROM doesn't really affect the battery life at all. Mainly the kernel you are using, scheduler, govenor, maximum frequency etc. I recommend using the Matr1x kernel as bedalus has tested that it uses the least amount of power of all kernels under similar conditions.
15 hours,1d, 8hrs since last charge ~ all don't mean a thing since your phone shouldn't drop any significant amount of percentage during DEEP SLEEP. When your phone is ON (screen on) that is when your battery should deplete.
If I leave my phone overnight for about 10 hours, I would drop maybe 1%. That's because the screen wasn't on; no activity needed significant power.
My on screen time is 3-4 hours, last time I checked. The crazy stuff is when my phone screen is off. Last night I went to bed for 9 hours battery was at 85. Woke up at 84. Two nights ago I went to bed for 10 hours with 90%. Woke up at 90%. I've never had such great off screen profiles. I'm going to calibrate the battery today and hope for something better.
