Bugs: Sensation>G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

I just bought one at Walmart yesterday and was going to decide whether or not to give it to my wife or keep it and give her the G2X. Needless to say, I can't do anything with it. After playing with it for 30 minutes it got hotter than any other phone I've ever used and then froze. After a reboot it worked for about 15 minutes and the second I opened up the market app it rebooted itself. I called T-Mobile and they can't do anything until the phone is officially released and Wal-Mart doesn't have anymore in stock since they only got 2 to begin with. All of the other local Wal-Marts didn't get any in. My only option is to return it for my money back which I will be doing tomorrow. In the end, I was lucky enough to get a G2X with no bugs but not lucky enough to get a Sensation with none.
G2X - 1
Sensation - 0
Side note: In the 30 minutes I had to play with the Sensation, I already figured out I would have been giving it to my wife. It is not as fast as the G2X and it's clear that Sense 3.0 is bogging it down. The internet browser is also no where near as fast as the G2X. Don't get me wrong, it will be a good upgrade from her MyTouch Slide but it's not a upgrade to the G2X (if you got one without bugs).

I've been using a Sensation for two days now and I have yet to have any bugs. My only complaint is the bluetooth voice dialing doesn't work natively and the internet seems to run a little slower than the G2X. But I have found it is definitely much more stable out of the box than the G2X. I have had the phone running now for 2 days without any issues. When I bought the G2X my phone had already rebooted a few times in that same amount of time.

Well hopefully the next one I buy is big free. I've been reading over the Sensation forum the past couple of days and it looks like I'm not the only one with major issues. Like I said, I was lucky enough to get a working G2X. Guess you were just lucky enough to get a working Sensation.
Whats your take on the speed of the device? I definitely noticed lag in the UI and it was noticeably slower than the G2X. I didn't get a chance to play any games before mine locked up but I would like to know how it performs in that area. I don't expect the Snapdraggon to perform as well as the Tegra II since it is built off of the old A8 architecture while the Tegra II is built on the new A9 but I would like my wife to be able to play her games with no stutter. Have you played any games on it and if so which ones and how did they perform?

Well for now...I love my g2x....I will get the sensation when its well mature in the scene...the g2x still young...

Hello, good to knoe man. I have been really happy with my phone.
On a side note, you should probably change the title. Is a little misleading. I actually thought you meant that Sensation was less buggy.

I haven't really seen a lot of major issues being posted over on the Sensation forums. The bug threads that I've seen have only had minor things in it. Anyways, to answer your question I don't notice any lag. What I did notice is that there are a lot more animations on the Sensation than on the G2X. Those animations make the phone feel slower than the G2X. For example when you press the home button, the fade in animation that takes you to the home screen is slower than the quick little effect that happens when you press the home button on the G2X. I changed my animation setting on my Sensation to "some animations" so that I didn't have as much eye candy and had a little bit better speed. I noticed when I set it to "no animations" I didn't see any difference between it and the G2X. I put up a thread with a bit more of an in depth comparison between the two phones. Check it out, perhaps it may be of some help for you.
As for gaming, I've yet to do any real 3d gaming besides Nova (which ran perfectly fine).

As for the major bugs I have read about in multiple forums, they are as fallows:
Display has a yellowish tint
Rebooting
Freezing
Locking up when using the camera
Getting hot
Wifi and Cell signal dropping when holding the phone in landscape
During some games you get screen tearing
From my 30 minute experience I thought the display looked good. I didn't have the yellowish tint. As for the other bugs, the only one I experienced was the locking up, getting hot and rebooting. I didn't get a chance to use the camera or use the phone in landscape. I will test all of these things when I get it but the signal degradation seems to be pretty major. There a thread dedicated to it on there forums and also a blog entry about it on GSM Arena.

I'm aware of GSM Arena article..they have a thread about it in the Sensation forum...but also in the same thread nobody is really having that issue, and I haven't been able to replicate it either. All in all I think it's safe to say that the G2X definitely has more issues than the Sensation. They may eventually get fixed but as it stands now, it has more issues. In the same two days I've been experimenting with the Sensation, my G2X has reboot itself a few times..and I won't get into the battery life lol.

Actually in the Sensation forum multiple people have also stated that they are getting dust particles under their screen. To me that is a really huge problem.

I had this happen on 3 of my Nexus Ones. I dunno what the hell HTC is doing, but something isn't right.

I don't know what thread you read but people are definitely experiencing the issue..the sensation looks great but imo it looks to have just as many issues and has yet to be mass released yet...

My gf has the HTC aria from at&t and it has voice search but it doesn't work with voice dialing. If you say "call wife mobile" on her phone, it just does a Google search.
It does know map and text I believe but I think it's just a sense thing.

Try this on her phone. It sounds like the same thing. It's stupid that HTC left it out.

Say Hello to a Confused and Recent HTC Convert

I just finally dumped Big Red and came over to AT&T (combined contracts with my wife). I'm going from the HTC Incredible and purchased the Sammy Captivate. I was very active back in the Dinc forum, and would consider myself "Advanced" - I did some development, but wasn't yet at the level of ROM Cooking.
I got over here to the Captivate - I'm confused as hell. I've followed my own advice and read forum after forum after forum before posting anything - the Cappy just seems like Greek to me.
Here's what I'm picking up:
1. GPS is spotty, but not for everyone. Mine has always been dead on, but then again I'm not a first-adopter of the Galaxy S. Perhaps it was a batch issue?
2. ROMs seem significantly harder to cook for the Cappy. I see a bunch of leaks from the Froyo build, but it looks half-done at best. Don't get me wrong, I'm running Cognition and I love it for day to day use. I had read a bit online about the lag issues, but I didn't imagine they would be *this* prominent even after rooting and removing bloatware.
That's about it, really. I'm checking back in the forums every day. I'm loving the hardware on this phone - the screen is fantastic, and when the Cappy is fast it's FAST. But I've gotta admit I'm fairly dissapointed thus far with some of the User Experience pieces. The Samsung overlay has some nice attributes (the swiping in Contacts is great, for one), but there are other bits that are wholly frustrating about this phone (WHY would they make the buttons at the bottom time out before the screen, forcing you to touch the screen to get the buttons lit up again??).
OH! And why did they switch "Home" and "Menu"??? I realize Samsung is a global company and that not all of their products are released Stateside, but it's still annoying.
I must apologize, this has turned from a general "how do you do" to a vent-fest. I'd love to hear from any experienced and new users alike. Thanks!
hi I just came from HTC too, I had the Aira, but I broke it. When I went to the ATT store, I saw the Captivate and decided to try it. I'm with you -- the hardware specs are great, screen is beautiful, camera is better than aria, etc. But the programming is lame, especially compared to aria. I haven't had an issue with the GPS, but there are a tons of software issues on this phone, such as wifi just not working at times, the exchange email client almost unusable, lack of languages, lag, and those lights at the bottom like you mentioned. HTC sense is wonderful.
I'm also having a hard time figuring out all of the ROMS and etc out there. I did install one of the lag fixes and it's made quite a difference. I also installed the HPUSA thing but I don't know how to tell if it's actually working. Anyway, install the lag fix, it will definitely help. And if anyone knows of a fix for the wifi, I'd love to know what it is (One would expect that it would just work out of the box).
What WiFi issues are you having? I can't even "see" any WPA networks. I have a Verizon FiOS router and can't see it because I'm assuming the WPA security. I tried switching to WEP though and still couldn't see it. I've search all over the web and XDA and can't seem to find anyone complaining of the same issue.

I haven't had any problems with Wifi and use WPA. I can see all of my networks (which are G, not N).
The button thing is kind of annoying, so I agree with you there. My GPS has been hit or miss, but I bought this phone used, so I'm not sure if it was a first batch model or not.
There's not much in the way of ROMs. There's stock and leaks, then there's Cognition and Eugene's, and that's about it. All of those are based on a leak or stock build, so they'll usually contain the same problems as the stock/leak build.
We're supposed to be getting a CyanogenMOD ROM sometime, or at least be able to port it...but I'm sure they can't do anything until Samsung releases the source for Froyo.
Anoter HTC convert here, but I came from the Pure.
GPS is definitely an issue. Mine improved with the OTA update to JH7. Its still not as accurate at highway speeds as the HTC.
HTC sense Rules compared to the UI in the Cappy. Im hoping that improvements will come as 2.2 is more widely adopted.

That has NOTHING to do with Samsung. At all.
Do a little research and you'll see almost every phone has a different arrangement of the four buttons.
Just going to answer the part of your question about the lag and lag fixes.
The lag on the galaxy s phones is the result of samsung using rfs file system - rfs has a much slower input/output read/write than ext* file systems generally found on linux distros. This is the lag that is being refereed to in the lag fixes.
so as long as samsung continues to put out official roms with rfs file system there will always be an opportunity for a "lag fix" with ext2 (i.e. ryanza's OCLF) or ext4 (i.e. voodoo).
hello_______
GPS is hit or miss, but on the FroYo leak it has gotten much better, unfortunately Samsung released the phones with brand new hardware and apparently didn't test...
The lag is as mentioned another Samsung fubar along the lines of using an inferior file system.
I think the reason for lack of ROMs is most people are waiting for FroYo to launch. We just got our first beta build leaked this week. Once source for the new kernel gets released, we should see a lot more activity as far as that goes.

I've done a lot of research, and I alluded to that point in my post. Survey the *American* market and empirically you will see that of the slate Android phones, most have the buttons in the order Home, Menu, Back, Search. And I would argue that it has everything to do with Samsung - unless you're implying that someone else designed the layout of the buttons on their device. After all, they are the reason the European variant of the i9000 has three buttons like the X10, correct?

Thanks, dayv. That's a good explanation and gives me some idea of where to go from here.
As for an update, turns out the WiFi issues were strictly hardware. After putting in a bridge with my FiOS router and still not getting any improvement, I took it back to Best Buy and swapped it out. Connected the second I got home. Unfortunately, the touch buttons were totally borked and I had to do a battery pull three times in 20 minutes because apparently the buttons would "touch themselves when they thought of me." In other words, you could see the buttons flash on and off, feel the haptic go crazy, and all kinds of strange stuff on the screen. Yet another swapout and I'm good to go.
I also installed Eugene's Frankin-Twiz last night - it really helped improve just about everything. Hardly any lag at all and I'm liking the associated themes available. GPS on my new device works great too.

I imagine we can also add to this that the Captivate has only been out for not quite 3 months if I recall correctly. So between the newness and people holding their breath for Froyo I could understand people's hesitancy to invest a lot of time and energy in making a soon to be outdated ROM.
came from a tilt2 which is/was? still trying to develop android..it was pretty good but wow i can never go back to windows phone after that mess. freggin love this captivate thou...when it doesnt break lol. ive never had a phone that i seem to get ALL the known issues with and still decide to stick with getting a new one instead. I miss sense somedays but overall i still am willing to stick with a less "bogged down" OS that i can practically do the same with. if i can make the phone do what i need faster then screw the pretty screen gadgets lol

I'm sorry but I to came from the htc aria, awesome little phone. I bought the aria because I thought the sense ui was pretty awesome. After using Cyanogen mods on the aria and playing with other launchers and now playing with tw launcher, sorry but sense ui is crap and for noobs . I got over the whole sense ui about a week of owning the aria and wasn't able to use it after adw and launcher pro.
Sorry had to post it. I just don't feel you can use an androids phone ui to bash another phone. I have only seen a few who use any androids phone stock ui any way and I'm one of them and as basic as it is it still makes sense ui look a babies toy.

Curious because I'm considering returning the captivate for the aria (other than the Screen the Captivate Really Kinda Sucks). If you had it to do again would you pick the Aria over the Captivate?

Not a chance lol the aria is awesome for its size but doesn't come close to the captivate , that's just my imo though. Only problem I have had with captivate is gps and I really don't use gps, so not that big of deal. The aria, like I said awesome for its size, just has to small of processor to do what the captivate can do. Most things lag on the aria games and movies almost un playable. I love my captivate.
I had bought an iphone4 for my wife to replace her old iphone. Well long story short , I turned a "i will not use anything else but iphone ! " the iphone 4 went back two weeks of having it cause of to many problems to we booth own captivates now and shes sold.

besides the gps.... i am very satisfied. here is why.....
I woke up this morning and opened allshare to stream music from my synology diskstation. Got in the car and loaded up bluetooth to my moto speakerphone/radio transmitter. Put my captivate in my proclipusa mount and Loaded up pandora to stream to my car stereo... Loaded up the navigation for testing purposes and was on my way...
Both worked without issue on the commute in.. rocking to guerrillla radio and limp bizkit. Got some tweets and emails... and the phone took it like... IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!!!!
My blackberry 9700 would have exploded and for sure the "r" key would have flew straight into my forehead... where then people would ask me why i have an R indented in my head... is it for Retard?
I rate the phone 95% out of 100%. If you really have that much to complain about then you will never be happy with any phone.....
p.s. - for people who have captivates that reboot or shutoff, that has to be a defect and you need to get it replaced. My phone has never rebooted or shutoff by itself.
p.s.s. Gps isn't great... but the phone does everything else i need really well.
rant over.

This has been a really stable rom with HSUPA enabled(no bluetooth issues) good GPS (for me) and a nice theme.
It is an international rom so all of the att crap is gone. No need for the sideloading crap.
I tried Cog beta 1,2, and 3 and F-T and I'm back to this rom. It's good for me until we get a good stable 2.2 rom.

That's an interesting question. The aria costs a lot less than the captivate. As far as hardware goes, the captivate is superior: 16 GB RAM, the screen is awesome, the speaker is better (ringtones sound nicer) and the quality of phone calls, at least for me, is a lot better than the aria. Oh and the camera is LOT better on the captivate. I haven't had issues with the GPS (the aria locked on a little faster, but captivate performs well). The issues with wireless for me are really frustrating, but others don't seem to have an issue (wireless sometimes works, sometimes doesn't even though it's connected, I have no idea why).
Based on my experience, I'd rather have the captivate. It definitely takes more tweaking than the aria but in the 1 week I've had it, I think I got everything worked out. I definitely liked the sense UI and email client on the aria, but I can live with the UI and stuff on the captivate considering how much better the hardware is.
If anyone has any idea about how to fix wireless, I'd really appreciate it.
Yeah I'm not gonna lie, we really don't have much of choice on at&t . To me we only have two choices right now Aria or captivate. If at&t got a htc equivalent to the captivate then I would have a hard choice .

Played with the Charge at VZW store. Very slow. Due to demo software?

Not trolling, but the phone was almost unusable. I'm wondering if your purchased phones out in the wild are better.
As I would try to swipe between application or home screens, the Charge would "stick" halfway through for about a second, then complete to the next screen. Even when it didn't stick, it was changing screens at maybe 5fps - very jerky. I saw that it had a live wallpaper running (pink/orange with vines swaying back and forth), so I moved to a normal wallpaper. That helped *slightly*, but it was still very laggy.
Sometimes it would completely miss the swipe and register as a click instead, launching the app I happened to start the swipe on. The apps launched quickly - the camera app was perfectly responsive. Makes me wonder if it's demo software they're running, or maybe the bloat UI-ware installed?
Did you guys notice anything similar on real phones, or does a different rom (unbloated) make things better?
I noticed similar issues on the Revolution in the store, but the Thunderbolt was working great. I'm deciding between the three phones and some feedback would be valuable. Thanks!

So get a tbolt or revo. WTF kind of an answer did you expect on a Charge forum. Do a little reading. With minor tweaking the phone runs super fast. Move on troll.
I would go with the charge. It has the best battery life, screen, and is the lightest. Also it has an hdmi port. Once you install voodoo lagfix on it it runs as smooth as any phone at verizon. I had the tb and all it did was die and reboot on me. Also this phone doesn't have a bootloader so it's easy to root and such. The tb root process is long and the revolution has to be bootstrapped just to have a custom recovery which is annoying in the long run. Also sense roms are 180+mb while a touchwiz rom is only 110 mb. So there is my input. I say 1. Charge. 2. Thunderbolt 3. Revolution

Unuseable HA!!
Thanks Papi - Helpful to know that voodoo lagfix works on this device. I thought it was only for Galaxy S devices. I couldn't find mention of anything different on the official voodoo website.
It's also helpful to hear real world comparison of someone who's had the TB and the Charge.
It seems weird that basically all phones coming out have something fundamentally broken with them: GPS won't fix, lag, reboots, camera quality, etc. You would think that at least one phone would come out and just *work*.
Suzook: Relax, man. I was asking if the demo software could be causing the lag. I searched both the Charge General and Charge Dev forums for the word "lag" and only came up with *one* result of a guy recommending OCLF on the market. That made me think it wasn't a common problem. Notice that I said the Revo showed the same problem - I'm not trying to diss your phone.
Geez. It's the internet. Don't take **** so seriously or you run the risk of giving people the impression that you're the drunk guy at the party who's angry and wants to fight, and nobody knows why.
DroidXcon: Holy ****! That's ridiculous! Clearly that phone is capable of much more than the VZW setup.
I never had lag on my droid charge but I am the type the of person who is a crackflasher and I love changing my phone. I never had problems with this phone ever. And ignore the others they troll everyone hahah you could make a thread called no lag here and they would troll and purposely lag there phones. Just relax and go get a charge. Its all good. Thought you were a troll. I have owned the tbolt, revo, and now Charge. IMO its the best of the 3. Its just my opinion though, everyone likes different things.
See our community is a loving troll one. I too love to occasionally rip someone apart but if it comes to buying a charge I am all for it. This phone has blown me away. Just download lagfix to increase the beauty.

Thanks!

I can answer this since I have owned all three of those phones. ThunderBolt (sold it 5 weeks later) Revolution (nice phone, but was concerned about potential lack of Dev support) Charge (nice phone overall, awesome screen).
Yes the ThunderBolt is pretty darn fast and so the drain on the battery. It has a bit more RAM, but other than that the processor is identical to the one in the Revolution.
I had the Revolution for day and I had no lag at all with mine. Snappy, good feel overall, the UI wasn't an issue for me (its subjective) but it seemed as though dev support wasn't going to be there. Turns out XDA-Developers did in fact open a forum for it and its rooted, no more bing.
Charge, again snappy enough, but if there is anything causing a perceived slow down its Touchwiz and perhaps the rfs file system. Both of these are easily address, Voodoo lagfix swaps the file system from rfs to ext4 and voila you get your speed back and Touchwiz, well choose a custom ROM or a different launcher (most do anyways).
I also found the demo units in the store to be on par with each other, but who knows what has been done to the demo's you tried. If I had to choose based on overall product I would get the charge => Revolution => ThunderBolt. They all run 1ghz, and customized to do what you want but sometimes it takes a while for the devs to get everything we want.
The charge has issues with BT, battery life, reboots and lockups. I couldn't deal with it. The Charge is the ONLY one I could get to pair with my 2010 Subaru BT and that was key for me.

Thanks for the awesome perspective. I've decided to grab a pair of Charges from Amazon while they're $149. One for me, one for the wife.
Quick question:
Do you actually mean the charge (in bold), or a different phone? Seems like it might be a typo...
He means the Thunderbolt
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
My phone might be crazy but I get around 12 hours of strait use on my thunderbolt running @1. 4Ghz
And no reboots yet lol
Edit-
32+ 10Gb storage don't hurt either
THUNDERBOLT
Absolutely no lag here with altered beast. The only downside is remnants of touchwiz.

OP here - Just received my Charge and wanted to followup. It did the EE4 update within about 5 minutes of turning the phone on, so EE4 is my only experience vs the phone in the store. And it's snappy. It isn't buttery smooth, but for a stock kernel without voodoo, it seems perfectly acceptable. It's my wife's phone, so I'll probably just leave it stock until she complains about lag - so far, so good, though!
Thanks for all of the comments.
Altered Beast is definitely awesome and fast. Just needs some work and TO BE UPDATED TO EE4

From MT4G to G2x

Just got off the horn with a customer care rep. After 5 MT4G's they are sending me a G2x.
Looks like I'll be hanging around here for awhile. After trolling around the G2x general section for awhile...
Are there a bunch of issues with this phone too? Or is it whiners like me bringing down the major corporations again?
Anyway, I'll get comfortable here for awhile. I am always interested in donating to a good cause. (Virtuous Unity Sense... Evil D!)

Stock software is buggy. As long as your handset doesn't have any major hardware defects then you should be fine. Definitely root and at the very least get rid of the T-Mobile bloatware. I recommend CM7 tho. They just released their first RC and its pretty darn good.
The phone is a powerhouse for sure.
I came from the MT4G. With the G2X YMMV. Some have lots of issues, some have none. Unfortunately it is the luck of the draw with this device at the moment. Only real hardware problem is the screen bleed, again some screens are bad, while others have hardly anything visible. every other issue with this phone is software based, and should be fixed with the upcoming upcoming update.
solid upgrade

I plan on running CM7 on it. I ran CM7 on my MT4G. Really liked some of the new Sense ROM's Evil D was posting up, but I always go back to Cyanogen. It's like your old girlfriend that won't go away.
As far as light leak. Is there any particular place it's bleeding from? Just asking... My last run of phones hasn't been so great. I want to make sure I don't get another problem device. Although, I just read a post in here about the Sensation not being so great either.

again for the bleeding it varies by each G2X. I am fortunate and have hardly any bleed, only place on mine is in the top right hand corner and it can only be seen on a completely black screen. Other G2x screens are so bad that light bleeds around the whole screen.
As for flashing roms, I have not flashed another rom yet but I have rooted. All current roms have the same issues as stock for the most part because they use te same drivers as stock. Until LG releases the update with newer drivers the issues will remain in cooked roms. You will love this phone though. If you get one with just slight screen bleed and no other issues hang on to it. Even though the G2X is flawed at the moment it still wipes the floor with any other phone out there.
I think the bleeding business is overblown. You'll notice it in pitch black darkness on a black screen. During normal use i dont notice a thing.

Totally agree, I barely, just barely notice bleed from the corners on a black screen in a totally dark room other wise I see nothing.

Good to note. I'm pretty happy about TMo trading my device for this one. Looks like the root procedure is much easier than any device I've ever rooted. (G1, Magic 32A, Magic 32B, Mytouch Slide, or MT4G)
One Click is about as easy as it gets. I'll let you guys know on Friday about the screen bleed. I read that the newer devices aren't as bad... Not sure if there is any truth to that, but I'll know Friday
Bleeding
Well I just got the G2x about 2 hours ago. (Yes it's already rooted w/ clockwork and I did a nandroid) That didn't take long at all.
I was checking out the screen and I am getting a little bleed up in the left corner of the screen. I haven't noticed too many bugs either, but I've only had the phone on for about an hour. I won't be waiting around with the Stock ROM either.
Looks like CM7 is still RC for this phone. Which is good news, but what ROM (So far) has the most stuff working? Kernel?
I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with this thread at all. I've been trying to read as much as I can.

I'm actually experiencing the opposite.
The battery on my G2x is dropping while I watch it. I've wiped, reloaded, wiped, reloaded, wiped, reloaded and it's still dropping. Battery stats are always wiped as well, something is just chomping away at the %.
I'm currently using my backup MT4G running RG, I did 14hrs on one charge and that's with a 3.5hr conference call and heavy data usage.
There has got to be data use issues causing the battery on the g2x to drain so quickly. Mine is on cm7 rc1 and I've had out on wifi with no sim in it and mobile network off. I've used it a fair amount and it's currently at 91% left after 21 hours.

Considering Trade for Sensation

Hey guys, an opportunity just came up and I might be able to trade my G2x for a Sensation. I absolutely love my phone since I was lucky enough to get one with minor screen bleed and no reboot issues. I just wanted to get more opinions from you guys. The main reason I'm willing to go through with this trade is GB. Is the trade worth it or should I just wait for a GB update?
Also, if I went through with this trade, what would happen with the games that I bought that are for Tegra 2 devices?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
youd know the answer to your question better than us....considering its gonna be your phone...but if you are asking for opinions,,,id say stick with the g2x. faster and the hardware is nicer...i dont think your tegra2 games will work on the sensation, but dont quote me on that
Gingerbread is not that big of an upgrade over froyo. The main difference it will make for the g2x is fixed drivers. Is it worth trading a good device for a potentially faulty sensation? No. The sensation has launch issues as well.
Just my opinion.

I just received my Sensation on Monday and really have enjoyed using it (NO REBOOTS!). I haven't had any major issues, to include the "Wifi death grip". I actually enjoy using the Sense UI, as it has fairly useful features. Honestly, the G2X was my first Android, and I was almost turned off to the whole OS because of the issues I was having. The Sensation has redeemed Android for me personally. Of course, we'll see how the phone holds up after a month of use.
I have both and use them both. I much prefer the G2X.
Just traded my Sensation for a G2x today on Craigslist. I was honestly nervous, but damn the G2x is pretty damn nice. My Sensation had the touchscreen issues that everyone else had so the responsiveness on this is just amazing to me. I think the Sensation is gorgeous but this phone is also pretty nice and I am liking the software better already. The only thing I miss is a fully working Netflix for some reason on this I get netflix, but it's all sped up, so not useable.

If you are not having problems with your G2x keep it.
I think that the G2x is a faster phone than the Sensation and certainly more entertainment friendly. I prefer it.
I had to switch to the Sensation and find it to be a better business friendly phone. Better email, better battery life, and Sense does keep things nicely organized and accessible at the right times. I do miss the G2x though. Every time I see my girl still with hers I think about switching back...but I need a more reliable device.
If you're is working well don't switch. If it is prone to the resets and freezing then make the trade. Just be honest with the buyer.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna keep the G2x then; and Pinhead, my phone is pretty much flawless so thanks. I guess I just liked how T-Mobile sold off the Sensation since they advertise it more as a flagship device than the G2x. After hearing your guy's opinions I'm willing to wait for GB. It may take a while for the update, but it doesn't really affect me, since as stated before, I got a pretty faultless device, so thanks guys your opinions are very much appreciated...

I have both as well. But I havent been able to have them side by side yet. When I got my sensation my G2X was at LG for repair, when it came back they repaired something that didnt need to be repaired and didnt repair what needed to be repaired so I sent it back to them.. anyway my cousin also has the g2x and yesterday I was playing with them side by side. Consistently in internet speed tests the g2x was getting 1-2mbps higher than the sensation(literately side by side, connecting to the same server etc..), the g2x was also a lot more snappy and even though the sensation has a qhd display I did like the ips better on the g2x. I just think the sensation is just much sexier looking. If I could get the looks of the sensation and the performance of the g2x I would be happier than a pig in ****

Hey graf, nice to see a familiar face in this strange land
Yeah I don't have the sensation anymore, atleast for now. Ran into a good deal and this G2x (according to the kid who sold it, also an avid XDAer) has no random reboot issues and the screen bleed is almost negligible. My Sensation was gorgeous and usable, but it had intermittent screen sensitivity issues. I had talked to T-Mobile a few times about it, and they had basically told me it's a known issue that will be fixed by an update from HTC. I'm sure had I prodded they would have gone through the throes of replacing it, but my problem was intermittent... I couldn't make it happen and god damnit anytime I showed someone it worked fine. Not to mention a factory reset completely fixed the problem for almost exactly one week. ARRGGHH. I know Tech Support would have had me Factory Reset it, which would have fixed the issue and then I would have had to wait another week to call back in for more troubleshooting and then possibly a replacement. I dunno, just thinking about it gave me migraines.
So for the time being I'm feeding my phone ADD with a new device, and I get to do the whole crackflashing thing again. And so far I'm very impressed. When the Sensy gets busted open and that sexy beast can perform like the G2x I think I will be jumping back. To see over 4000 on Quad, I was like, umm pants have been shat.
I think what happened is I heard so much bad about G2x and that the Sensation was supposed to be this gift from phone heaven. Sense 3.0 ran smoother on my MT4G than it did on my dual core beast. Just kinda bummed me out. And then with low expectations, seeing the G2x perform so well it just made my pants shrink.
Of course this is all moot in September when the Hercules drops... Stupid addiction. Plus if I can try L-flippin-G out, I think I can give Samsung another shot, especially with those specs.
Wow, thread hikacked, sorry OP. Should have sent a PM to graffix instead... EEK

haha I hear ya. Yeah they are both really nice phones. Once I get my g2x back from LG in a few days I think I will rock that again for a bit. I honestly think a cross between the phones would be perfect. The looks of the sensation and the performance of the G2x. And dont worry about being in a strange land. I can honestly say that the g2x forum peeps are much nicer than the sensation people. So they will all make you feel welcome here
I don't know, but my G2x don't have reboots, but Im tired of it. Because is "low budget" phone for me....
I remember all G-series never sparkled with design....
+Im filling fake drivers( example: settings scrolling, BASIC users never gonna see that, but who know-Android, will say Im right !!) ...even on CM7 witch is super fast* !!!!
So Im almost sell my phone...., and I will get SGS2... Expensive ! But 2.3 and same fast like all dual-cores.
oh and trust me when sensation get CM7 the phone will ROCK !

I have both and tried them side by side. I also read all the comparisons on cnet and other blogs. There was 1, I think CNET, but not sure, named the sensation a hands down winner over G2x in a side by side comparison. Problem was, almost all the tests were opinion tests. For example.
Body shape and style
each of use of apps
speed of access to internet,
game play performance.
All the info pointed to the peeps opinion on how they acted. for me, the side by side performance was much different. the stock g2x out performed the Sensation in every category except:
camera access and speed
Startup speed.
oh.....and I like alot of the Sensation sounds better
Otherwise , this wasn't even a competition.
But, as several have said, its your choice, what you like. If you like the metalic feel of the HTC, then cool, it is attractive. Or, what ever it is that draws you, then go for it.
Just don't let it be GB. The draw of GB vs 2.2 is not that much of a difference to be an impact....unless you want it to be
alodar1 is right especially regarding gb vs. froyo, i hate when i hear people say well i want that phone cuz it has gingerbread, and i think to myself what? why?, there isnt that much of a difference if u ask me all there is, is the scroll light up and i like the copy and paste and gb manages apps a little differently thats it, but froyo performs just as nicely especially 2.2.2, now the only time id say sure grab that phone it has gb, is if u were running 1.5

Hey guys, i am currently interested in getting the g2x to dev on. I dev for the Moto defy since the day it came out and have plenty of roms. Now my question is how are you guys experience with this device? I've read some complaints of tons of reboot and back light leak, poor signal..etc.. Any comments would be much appreciated, looking forward to getting this phone
Very good device. Some have backlight bleed but only really noticeable in the dark and when looking at it on an angle.
I haven't had any reboots recently but once when i got a call and after hung up it just died and had to pull battery.
Main problem seems to be that Nvidia's lack of sources for A2DP functionality for stereo bluetooth and that 2.3.3 is on froyo kernel so further updates with custom roms would be difficult.
thanks for the reply, how are the roms? Any problems with current roms ?

In all honesty, CM7 works perfectly even with the lack of a2dp support. 2.3.3 OTA based roms (namely Weapon G2x) works just as well if you want that close to stock feel with more features. MIUI has all the same problems CM7 does since they run off the same kernel.
I've never had any issues with reboots, and if people do it's probably because of rogue apps running in the background. I never had a reboot because I like keeping my app drawer as minimal as possible At least, that is my theory
I love my g2x..just checked the sgs2 but not really into that much, my g2x on Cm7 was faster... The roms are good, I do agree with the lack of tegra support but Meh. Love it..please get one and welcome..
I love my phone.
Excellent performance, excellent display, and excellent battery life. I'm on my 3rd one, but that was because my first one kept locking up, and my 2nd replacement came damaged.
I love this phone, and I wouldn't want to replace it with anything else until the Nexus Prime. ^_^
Absolutely zero problems, love this phone so much. One of the best parts is the glass. It's curved, which makes unlocking it feel really good , and the glass feels really thick and solid. Also NO scratches, coming from an iphone all these things are huge. Loving it.
I feel like this phone can stay up to date with most of the devices coming out right now... On Android, you don't actually need 1GB of RAM... Heck, 512MB is more than enough! I'm gonna hold out until the quad core phones start coming in... If the Nexus Prime is still a dual core, I won't even bother.
I got 99 experiences but a reboot ain't one.
My 1st G2x is running good.
no reboots, no reception issues.
runs great and my app drawer always has at least 200 apps.
lol
I haven't started deving /theming on it yet.
Thanks everyone for you input! Just placed the order for it and cant wait to get. Never dev for any other devices besides moto , so im looking forward to this.
Awesome a new dev!!! Wanna thank you in advance. Good luck

This.... Not thinking if anything but quad core to upgrade...
Anyone get a problem where the phone wont find network after you go into a dead area like subway and you have to disable and re-enable all connections for it to work again?

Reboots
My wife and I both have our 3rd G2x (due to replacements of bad phones). The phones we have now are doing well, however we both did experience a random SHUTOFF not reboot. It only happened twice, so I'm just waiting to see if that happens again, really weird.
My G2x is is running great. On my second one due to random shut downs on my first. I only experienced a couple reboots until I got a brand new battery and rooted the phone. Currently running Eagles Blood 2.3.5 others no misshaps. Love it.

This is a great phone. For those of us that have had no problems, the intended impact of the device is evident.
However, you cannot ignore what a lot of people went through. for many, the g2x experience was the worst possible.
LG and T-Mobile appear to have let the phone fade away. Even though its for sale, and can be had for cheap, it no longer appears in comparison with other good phones on the market today. Check the reviews out their today...cnet, etc....The powers that be have let it fade away.
Even DEVs appear to have moved on. Many of the people here a few months ago have moved to other devices. Even saying that, there are some real good ROMs out there...just less people deving them.
In all honesty I have to say, this phone is the best phone I've owned. But in that same honesty, I'd have to say, you may want to consider something else. Even the Sensation is now getting far more press and exposure from T-Mobile than this beauty. There are TONs of ROMs available for the Sensation and some of the best DEVs from the android world are there.
I've recently considered the Bionic....but the VzW pricing plan is just too much. Minimum $100 a month to walk out with a Bionic.
I love the G2x. But if you want long term upgradabiity...you may wish to look elsewhere.
Just my opinion....

No. It just finds it. Maybe not on second one, but 10-20.
Also, I came to G2x from the Bold, which would die in a day with no usage under dead zones. That was a huge problem - I was forced to enable and disable airplane mode all around. The G2x is great in that matter.

I have noticed that a lot of problems happen under the stock ROM or roms based on the stock one.
Flashing something like CM7 or MIUI fixes a lot of problems.
