Please tell me why you wouldn't think you flashed bali kernel correctly.
I was looking at the kernel build 2.6.32.9 and am sure it is the same as before the Bali flash. I just wanted to make sure it looked correct to those more knowledgeable.

Assuming that you are rooted and have cwm working, just download the zip file, jump into cwm recovery and and flash away. There is a lot more info on how to do this in the development section. Hope this helps.

hes asking what he should do first!
to be honest WHITEHAWKx KD1 flashable through odin or heimdall should be first(IT COMES WITH ROOT SO YOU WONT HAVE TO, AND IT COMES WITH THE RECOVERY FILE FROM FINAL CWM SO YOU WONT HAVE TO PUSH IT THERE LATER)
before you flash kd1 put the update.zip from CWM FINAL on the root of sd then flash kd1 with odin or heimdall AND......
BAMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have kd1 deodexed rooted with CWM FINAL ready to go
finally a very detailed answer ty !!!!!

So there is really only one custom kernel for the sgs4g and that would be drhonks Bali either UV or non UV
His kernel does wonders on our phone including: smoothness, performance and battery life(especially UV version)
I'm using Bali UV and I LOVE IT battery life is amazing

Where did you get these awesome tools man? You never say it in your video and I've been googling for hours now...
Better question, who the heck does this process anymore?
There are tons of kernels that can just be flashed with a kernel flasher, or odin that give you cwm instantly

I've been using the 3e recovery process I am not sure of another way without putting the recover file in system/bin.
I have been needing this all day today. Thank you!
Great for those who stock, want to install a cwm packaged rom, and don't want to have to flash a completely different rom solely to get cwm.

Has anybody got a version of CWM that will work on the sgs4g? I accidentally flashed the galaxy s CWM from rom manager before finding this forum. Nothing has changed on the phone, except if i boot into CWM recovery i always get verification errors.
Also, are there any ROMs for the sgs4g that is running 2.3.6?
Thanks to anybody who can help.
Get rid of ROM Manager. I've read it doesn't work well on this phone. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331 for a 2.3.6 ROM with the latest CWM/root/voodoo lagfix.

You should try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422824
When it is time to choose a package pick the one that includes the beta 2d kernel from the Kj6 collection. Learning the one click method will also give you every thing you need should you make a mistake and need to recover from a soft brick

This may just be a noob question and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm running 2.3.6 as well and want to flash Valhalla Final onto my device. The instructions say you must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery. Do I need to use Heimdall and load a kernel with clockwork recovery or is there another way to get the CWM? I am still learning the basics of all this stuff. Forgive my ignorance.

Since you're already on GB (2.3.6) you can do this, if you're not rooted follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G#Rooting
Once you're rooted:

Save the wiki to your bookmarks. We're updating it constantly so you'll always get the most up to date info from there. Also spread the word when other users need help, point them to the proper section in the wiki .
Thanks to everyone for their insight. My sgs4g is no more now. Luckily, I learned a lot about flashing with it before it died. Including unbricking. Still haven't gotten heimdall to work. But I think I have been trying to run the regular exe instead of the front end. We'll see. Hopefully I get paid this week to cut on the internet again. Killing me here.

Hi Joseph. In my opinion, the easiest way is to flash bhndven's Subtly Modified Stock with CWM5 + Voodoo Lagfix. That way you have a KJ6-based kernel, the latest CWM, root, & voodoo lagfix.
Good luck!
i can`t understand this
what this is ?
i am new for this plz simplest this for me

Read every stickied thread in this and the development forum, it will explain the process to you in the most detail possible. If reading these is too much, then you'll be better off with an iPhone.

Reading is defniitely key. If the subtly modified kernel is too difficult, though, maybe you should try a ROM from the The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list, SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders, will give you cwm, root, and voodoo lagfix.
It is simple to install & only requires Java. Just follow the instructions on the post.

so i found this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032&highlight=drhonk
and a Bali Named one (but i read this was for 2.2.X Roms so i did not used it)
after flashing it i got my WiFi Back, but when i reboot in to recovery
i only get this screen (see attached pic)
im going to do a heimdall stock install
and start all over again :S
Thats the rainbow screen that you get for not having the gingerbread bootloaders installed. When you reflash with heimdall, you will need to do it twice. The first pass will not include the bootloader. After round 1, check the flash bootloader box and redo. That should fix everything.

after that the kernel worked perfectly with SGS flasher.
